My neat black shoes shone under the moonlight. I'm not one that much enjoyed dancing and partying, but I had no choice but to attend this event at the pack house.

There's no year in Crystal moon Pack that the Alpha doesn't throw a party. It has become a tradition since the day Alpha Asher found his mate on a day like this many years back.

Alpha Asher is the son of the founder of this great pack, so yes! The history of this annual event goes all the way back. Unlike the past few years, today was supposed to feel special, but for unknown reasons, it felt like every other day to me.

"Hey! What are you doing? You should enjoy yourself," my best friend Mirabel said. Mirabel is from a prestigious family in this pack. We have a few things in common, but none of our interests came between our friendship.

"I'm enjoying myself, what more can I ask for than this peaceful ground I stand?" I gave a sarcastic reply, causing Mirabel to burst into laughter. She shook her head disagreeing with me, "No, today is your birthday Lindsey and it's not just like every other f**king birthday." She paused and dragged me towards the floor where people stood, chatting and drinking.

"You're turning eighteen, you asshole. Just have fun for once," Mirabel said as she took a bottle of wine from the table next to us. As always, they held the event outside the pack house with not a cloud in the sky. Today, the moon tends to shine the brightest.

She poured wine into two glasses and gave one to me. I shook my head, refusing to take the wine from her. "Hey! Don't be a loser and have some." I narrowed my eyes at her words before taking the drink from her.

As I brought the drink up to my mouth, a strong scent of coconut and mint hit my nose. Before I could make out what the scent was, I heard the crowd chanting, "Alpha Liam! Alpha Liam!" I turned to gaze in the direction where they all faced. The small crowd of people in front of me made it difficult for me to see the Alpha.

"Mate!" my wolf muttered. Her voice was so loud in my head and it began to ache badly and suddenly I started feeling dizzy. The scent of coconut and mint became strong. It almost seemed as if the person with the sweet scent was walking towards me.

"Mate! Mate!" my wolf kept chanting. My body couldn't take it anymore, my eyes were spinning and I couldn't see clearly, "Mirabel...." I whispered and fell

Wait! I didn't fall. I felt a muscular arm around my back, holding me and stopping me from falling. I slowly opened my eyes. My vision was blurry at first, but slowly I started to see clearly and my heart jumped into my stomach the moment I saw the Alpha standing right in front of me.

"Oh, pardon me!" I exclaimed in shock and stood up straight as I tried to straighten my dress.

"Mate!" my wolf said again, but this time, she didn't yell like she did before. She whispered and I could feel that his wolf was calling out to my wolf, too.

"Mate!" The Alpha whispered but the sharp ears of the wolves around, heard him clearly. They all started murmuring to themselves. I was dumbfounded. "How on earth can I be the Alpha's mate? My family is just a low-class family in the pack! Oh, my Goodness!" So many thoughts flooded my mind as the Alpha took me by the hand and made me follow him to the center of the annual event.

Everyone had their eyes on me. Men, women, boys, and the jealous eyes of she-wolves in town were all fixed on me. I felt a sick feeling in my stomach as I remembered that even my best friend, Mirabel, had always dreamt of being the Alpha's mate.

Alpha Liam cleared his throat and turned to face me with his ice-blue eyes. His chiseled nose sniffed my scent again, as if he was addicted to it. Still gazing into my eyes, he raised my right hand up before turning to face the eager crowd, who couldn't wait to hear the news from the Alpha's lips.

"I have found my mate!" His words came as a shock to the crowd. This was not because he found his mate on this day, but because his mate was a commoner.

My heart throbbed against my chest, making it hard for me to breathe. Alpha Liam noticed that I was feeling uncomfortable, so he caressed my hand softly before leaning closer to me, "Hey, look at me" He said. His hot breath on my skin made me feel butterflies in my stomach.

"It's fine." His words were like a big bed of comfort.

The next day.

I woke up with a smile on my face. I've never imagined that being the mate of the Alpha would bring me such joy.

Ever since my parents died, I have been going through hell at the hands of my aunt and her husband. I always wake up to a soaked pillow but today was different, and I looked forward to what the rest of the day hold.

Last night, the Alpha declared that our wedding would take place in the next month. Without being told, I knew that it was going to be the talk of the town. I climbed down from my bed and hurried into my bathroom to wash my face. Some of my clothes were littered on the floor, but that was the last thing to be concerned about right now

After washing my face, I opened the door of my room and was heading towards the kitchen to do some chores when I heard my aunty murmuring from the sitting room.

"She's just an orphan," I heard my aunty say. The conversation caught my attention that I just couldn't walk past the sitting-room door without waiting to hear what they were talking about

"Yes! And look at where she lives. I can't have my son marry from this kind of family," I gasped as the words fell into my ear.

"Take this money! This is enough for you and your family to start a new life elsewhere. No one has to know about this"

"Yes, my Luna," my aunty said in respect, I imagined that she was bowing her head right now.

"You know what to do!" The Luna said and left the house. My heart immediately sank. I wasn't here when the conversation started, but I could tell that my mate's mother didn't want me to marry her son.

I heard footsteps approaching the door where I stood. I was too sad to even move an inch and behave like everything was fine. The door opened and my aunty jolted back in shock after seeing me

"Why did you take money from her? I'm not going to leave with you guys. I'm getting married to the Alpha because the moon goddess didn't make a mistake in making us mate." I wanted to yell these words, but instead, they came out as a whisper.

"Shut up your mouth and pack your things, Lindsey! The moon goddess made a mistake." My aunty's words sting me right in my chest.

"I'm not going anywhere." I refused to listen to her. This was my only way of getting happiness, but just like before, the universe has chosen to take it away from me. I was going to try my best not to let it happen

"Lindsey, don't be a fool! The Alpha won't regard you as anything but a piece of cheap furniture. You will reject him as your mate and leave this town with us," she said sternly.

"Reject my mate?" I asked in shock. My wolf wasn't okay with the idea either.

"Yes, it's the best thing to do," she said in a calm tone before moving closer to me. The scent of her wet, dirty blonde hair hit my nose, causing my stomach to twist a little. I was sure that the Luna arrived at our house when she just got out of the bathroom so she didn't have the time to dry her hair. My head began to ache badly, as if someone hit me from behind with a brick.

I leaned on the wall and slowly fell to the ground, sitting with my hands around my knees. "Stop being delusional Lindsey. That was something I liked about you. You always accepted reality." She paused. My wolf snarled. We desperately wanted to punch her, but we were too scared of her to even mutter a single word right now.

"Don't let the mate bond fool you! Get your bags ready quickly so that we can leave!" She added and walked away from me. Tears started falling down my eyes like a fountain and I tried stopping myself from crying, but the pain was so immense that the tears fell out even more.

"Look at you! Did you really think that you'd get married to the Alpha?" Veronica, my aunt's only child, said. Her father has no say in any of this. He always listens to whatever my aunty tells him because when my parents died, they left a few things behind, including money, so my aunty runs the house with the money.

"Get lost" I snarled.

"Just shut up. I'll do you a favor to pack your rags into a bag." She hissed before leaving me alone to swim in my tears.

The night came so quickly, unlike last night when the moon shone brightly, tonight was different. I sighed and got into my uncle's truck.

"We aren't forgetting anything, right?" My aunty ask. If that question was directly for me then I think my answer would be yes, but unfortunately, I wasn't forgetting anything, I was deliberately leaving it, and that was my emotions. I was leaving my old and sweet self behind.

Two years later

I walked down the hallway to my locker. Ever since we moved to this new town, I've received nothing but hate and the only people who talk to me are bullies, who only try to make my day even more miserable.

I quickly opened my locker and took out my chemistry notebook. Unlike every other student's locker, my locker was plain and filled with just a few textbooks and notebooks

"Hey, loser! Throw this in the trash can for me," Derek, the principal's annoying son, said as he squeezed a dirty paper into my hand.

I sighed and narrowed my eyes as I walked towards the trashcan. I straightened the paper, in curiosity to see what was on it. "You're such a loser and you don't belong here! You don't belong anywhere!" My wolf snarled in anger after reading the note.

"He doesn't even have good handwriting," I scoffed and threw the paper into the trashcan.

I walked into the chemistry class only to find some of the students whispering to one another, "Did you hear?" Lillian, my only friend in this school, asked.

"Hear what?" I inquired

"That Mr. Anthony got suspended because he's a racist," Lilian informed. Lillian has always reminded me about Mirabel, although I don't know if Mirabel would have still wanted to be my friend after finding out that her childhood crush was my mate.

"Hmmm," I muttered. I wasn't surprised. I even expected the school authorities to sack him for good. Mr. Anthony is our chemistry teacher, no doubt that he was really good, but he has a habit of disregarding the opinion of any black child in the school. They were too scared to report to the school authorities, but fortunately for them, one way or the other, the school found out by themselves.

"So, who's going to be our chemistry teacher now?" I asked and sighed.

"I heard that the principal's cousin from another town is going to replace him," she whispered into my ear. I arched my brows, confused, but before I could ask any question, the classroom suddenly became quiet and I turned to the door, knowing the only reason everyone could keep their mouth shut.

The principal walked into the classroom, and everyone kept their eyes on the door, expecting another man to follow suit

"Good day, students! Mr. Anthony won't be with us for the rest of the term, he failed a black kid even when the kid did well in his test," The principal informed, causing most of the students in the classroom to gasp pretending like they haven't heard the gossip before.

"Who is our new chemistry teacher, then?" Lillian asked the question that has been going through everyone's mind for the past few minutes now

"Some of you here know my cousin Liam. He came to town last week for business and he is the only one who I see deemed fit for this job," the principal explained.

"He's going to be teaching y'all chemistry for the term," He informed.

"I heard his cousin schooled in Harvard!"

"Oh, my God! I saw Derek's post on Instagram yesterday. He took a picture with his cousin and posted it with the caption, chilling with my uncle” The girls whispered indiscriminately

"Silence!" the principal yelled, causing the room to turn quiet again. The principal turned to the door and cleared his throat before saying, "Liam, come in."

I turned my gaze to the door like everyone else but suddenly, a familiar scent hit my nose as a face I clearly recognized walked into the classroom

"Mate!" my wolf immediately yelled, causing me to stand to my feet.

"Excuse me," I said and ran out of the class

"She's so weird," I heard someone say, but I ignored them. I hastened my steps to the bathroom with my heart throbbing against my chest

"Mate! That was our mate!" my wolf said. I didn't blame her for being so excited about seeing our mate after two years, but she was making it difficult for me to stay composed

"Do you think he recognized me? Do you think he felt the bond again?" I asked as I gazed at my reflection in the public mirror in the girl's bathroom.

"I think so! I was sure that I heard his wolf call out to us too," my wolf said. I took a deep breath and clutched my fingers into a tight fist. I summoned all the courage I had left in my body before walking back to the class.

Liam was introducing himself to the students when I came in. I kept my gaze on my shoes as I walked back to my sit beside Lillian

"What was that about? Why did you suddenly run out of the class?" Lilian inquired.

"Nothing. I just felt sick, that's all," I lied.

"I hope you're fine now," Lilian said, sounding concerned.

"Yes, I'm okay," I responded

I shifted my gaze from Lilian to Liam. I could feel his gaze on me and it made my skin burn in horror.

Soon, the class was over and I started packing my books into my bag, ready to leave the class without being noticed, when I heard him call my name. "Lindsey Addams." His voice made me halt instantly and my heart sank immediately.

My wolf pushed me to quickly turn to face him, and I gulped down the saliva in my mouth in horror.

After everyone had left the classroom, he took a few steps closer to me. He brought his hand to my face and grabbed my chin violently

"I was disappointed and I hate being disappointed!" He said. I struggled to move backward and away from his grip.

"What are you talking about?" I asked confused

"Stop acting dumb! You fooled your family into leaving the pack with you so that you can be with the love of your life, some boy you met in a school camp," Liam said, causing me to arch my eyebrows, confused

"What are you talking about?" I asked again. My whole thought right now revolved around Liam, so I couldn't understand what he was saying.

He pushed me backward, releasing his hold on my chin. I gasped for air as I staggered back. Liam walked closer to me and, in fear, I moved backward until my back hit the wall. Liam smirked and brought his hand forward to touch my waistline, then he trailed his hand to my skirt. My heart kept throbbing in my chest in fear.

"Leave me alone, I didn't do anything to you!" I said and pushed his hands away from me. My wolf wanted the exact opposite thing. She wanted him in her forgetting that this was a school premise

"Stop Liam, stop it, okay! I don't know what you've been told, but it's definitely a lie" I said, but Laim didn't wait to listen to me before grabbing me on my chin again. With his ice-blue eyes, he glared at me, causing my heart to immediately fall into my stomach.

"For leaving me after announcing to the entire pack that you're my mate, I'll make sure that you crawl to beg me," He said. I gulped down the saliva in my mouth in horror and fear at his words.

In anger, he let go of me and walked out of the classroom. I leaned on the wall and slowly dragged my back on the wall until I was sitting on the floor

"Why was our mate so cruel to us?" I heard my wolf say. She was excited before when she saw him walk into the class.

"I don't know," I said and fought back the tears that threatened to fall from my eyes. I refused to show any sign of weakness because I left those feelings behind two years ago.

"I'm sure his mother lied to him," I said and clutched my fingers in anger. She was the reason why I left the pack with my aunty and now she lied to her son for him to hate me

I sighed and straightened my skirt before leaving the class.

I got home to find the house in a huge mess. My aunty was resting on the sofa while her husband was drinking and watching the latest Arsenal match.

"I'm home," I said and took off my shoes before heading towards my small room

"Come back here! " My aunt's voice rang through the room, causing me to immediately halt.

"Yes, ma," I answered respectfully because I didn't want any trouble. I'll be done with high school soon and will be going to college so I had to behave myself until then

"You're not blind to see the way things have been going in this house," she paused. With the way she started, my guts told me that it wasn't going to end well

"We have gone bankrupt and your cousin needs money for her school fees in college," she added

"How is any of that my business?" I wanted to say but instead I kept my mouth shut and waited for her to continue

"My husband friend's son is in town and he's back to find a wife. Fortunately for us, he is wealthy"

"Oh my goodness, this shouldn't be what I'm thinking...." I thought in horror

"We have arranged for you both to get married. " She dropped the bomb. My head started to ache and before I knew it, everywhere turned black.

I sauntered into my penthouse. Everyone including my cousin thinks I came here for work but in truth, I came here because I knew my mate was in this town.

For the past two years, I asked my beta to look everywhere for her and finally, he found out that she was in a town close by, so unfortunate that I thought she traveled somewhere far. As I opened the door of my apartment, the memory of two days after I found out that Lindsey was my mate came flashing in my head.

"If there's no more complaint then I'm sure that this is the end of the meeting," I said and stood to my feet. I exited the courtroom and made my way to the big sitting room in the pack house with my beta walking behind me

"Good morning Mom!" I said as I walked into the dining room. My mother looked all dressed up and I wondered what the special occasion was.

"Good morning dear," She said without even gazing at him, she was battling with her steak, and in frustration, she yelled.

"What is this?" Her voice rang through the room causing the hearts of the servants in the dining room to fall into their stomachs in horror

"Take this steak away from my sight! Gosh! It doesn't have to be this strong and hard to chew" She hissed. Some say that when your mate dies, you'll become sober but the case was totally different for my mom. Instead of becoming sober, she turned violent

"Mom, I'm thinking that my mate should live here with us before the wedding," I said as the servant dished my food. My mother furrowed her brows and shifted her gaze to face me before saying,

"Haven't you heard?" My mother's words caused a frown to instantly appear on my face. I instantly knew that her next words weren't going to be pleasant

Before my mother could inform me of the news going around town, my beta cleared his throat before whispering into my ears. My ears widened in shock as I heard the news and in a rage, I hit the dining table and stood to my feet in anger.

"What??? How on earth will she leave her pack because she fell in love with a human kid in another town?" I asked in fury. My mother stared sternly into my eyes before clearing her throat to speak.

"You both were never meant for each other, I'll find a new bride for you and she'll be a match," My mother said and drank from the bottle of water in front of her

I narrowed and walked towards my room, I felt the presence of another wolf in the house. "Oh, F**k it" I bit my lips as I hurried upstairs to my room. I knew exactly who had that scent.

I pushed my bedroom door in anger only to find Selene on my bed, naked. In a rage, I yelled, "How the F**k did you get into my house?"

"Stop running away from Mr. Alpha Liam, even your mom sees that we're a good match" Selene is the Beta's daughter. Just like many other girls in the pack, Selene also hoped that one day the moon goddess would make her my mate.

"I'll see how I can help your dad but take that money and get out of my house" I said

"But... But... Your mother said I should stay here, my box is even in your closet" She stuttered. I shiftly sturbed to her, my eyes red in anger. I've never stayed in the same room with a woman so what nonsense is my mother trying to do

"Obey my mother's word at your own risk" I growled and walked out of the room without waiting to hear another word from her.

Next day.

I walked into the classroom and Lindsey's scent immediately reached my nose. I could tell that she was gazing at me.

"Can someone remind us of what we learnt yesterday," I said and smirked.

A few students raised their hands and they were mostly girls, I turned to gaze at Lindsey who was playing with a pen, "Yes! You, Lindsey, remind us of what we learnt yesterday" I said catching her off gaurd. The look on her face when I called her name was priceless

"Me? But I didn't raise my hand...."

"Well, you can't tell me who to chose in my class right?" I said, staring right into her eyes with my wolf calling out to her.

She glared at me before responding, "Atoms and their molecules"

"Right!" I muttered and noticed the disappointed look on half of the class's face. They wanted her to fail it so that they could answer it and gain my attention.

"How easy it is to see through humans!" I thought.

Soon, the class was over. Just like yesterday, I could sight Lindsey from the corner of my eye trying to pack her books quickly and leave the class without my notice.

"Lindsey, wait behind" I said sternly. Her mood today was really dull and I wondered what the problem was but then I shook my head, shaking away the feeling of concern

"Close the door" I instructed after everyone has left the class. In hesitation, Lindsey shut the class room door. My wolf was impatient, he wanted to bounce on her right now and know the taste of our mate.

"Did you come to this school because of me? How did you know that I am my family moved here?" She started asking questions, questions that sounded so funny but I composed myself, refusing to laugh at her words.

"Answer me!" She sounded upset. I furrowed my brows, confused and snapped at her, "What is your problem? You have no right to be upset right now! I should be the one upset!" I roared.

"Upset about what?" She asked but if there was something I hated more than anything, then it was to be questioned.

I chuckled softly, Ignoring her words. I took my middle finger up to her lips and whispered, "Hush baby, hush!" She shivered at my touch and my heart arched at it but instead of stopping, I smirked and took my hands to her shirt and began to unbutton it

"What are you doing?" She asked in horror

"Hush Lindsey, this is the part where you keep quiet" I muttered. I knew she was enjoying it too. It's difficult to resist the touch of one's mate.

I unbuttoned her shirt slowly and unhooked her bra causing her boobs to be in display.
