Chapter 1

I woke up in a world I didn’t recognize—my world now, but not the one I was born into. I was Juniper Howell, daughter of Alpha Felipe Howell and Luna Emery Bennett of the Silver Crescent Pack. Today was my Ascension Ceremony, the ritual that would officially recognize me as an adult werewolf and solidify my place in the pack hierarchy. But as I stood in the grand hall, surrounded by the pack’s elders and warriors, I could feel the tension in the air like a storm brewing.

The ceremony began, and the pack’s Beta stepped forward to initiate the ritual. As my inner wolf, Flame, stirred within me, I braced myself for the moment when her essence would manifest. But as the crimson glow of my wolf’s fur began to shimmer around me, the room erupted in whispers.

“Look at that,” someone muttered. “Her wolf’s aura is so faint. It’s almost… ordinary.”

Sabrina Jimenez, my half-sister and the pack’s other Delta, stood to the side, her lips curled into a smirk. Her wolf’s essence, a rich, golden brown, radiated power and dominance. She stepped forward, her voice dripping with mockery.

“Juniper,” she said, her tone saccharine sweet, “are you sure you’re ready for this? Your wolf’s aura is barely noticeable. How can you expect to lead the pack when you’re so… weak?”

I clenched my fists, my claws digging into my palms. Sabrina’s words stung, but I knew the truth. Weeks ago, she had sabotaged me, using a forbidden potion brewed by the pack’s Healer to weaken my wolf’s essence and enhance her own. She had always been jealous of my position as the Alpha’s true heir, and now she was making her move to take it from me.

“You’re wrong,” I said, my voice steady despite the anger boiling inside me. “My wolf is stronger than you’ll ever be.”

Before she could respond, I lunged at her, my claws striking her neck with a force that sent her sprawling to the ground. She gasped, blood trickling from her nose as she glared up at me.

“You—!” she sputtered. “How dare you attack me!”

The elders, including the pack’s Elder Alpha, Mathew Allen, stepped forward, their faces dark with disapproval. Mathew’s voice was cold as he addressed me.

“Juniper Howell, this behavior is unacceptable. You have disgraced the pack with your actions.”

Sabrina scrambled to her feet, her eyes wide with feigned innocence. “Elder Alpha, she’s lying! She’s just jealous of my wolf’s strength. She’s unfit to be a Delta, let alone the Alpha’s heir!”

I glared at her, my chest heaving with rage. “You’re the one who’s unfit. You used a forbidden potion to weaken me. You’re nothing but a fraud!”

The room fell silent, the tension thickening as the pack’s leaders exchanged uneasy glances. Mathew stepped forward, his gaze hard.

“You’re making serious accusations, Juniper. Do you have proof?”

Before I could respond, the doors to the grand hall swung open, and Alpha Felipe Howell strode in, his presence commanding the room. His eyes swept over the scene, settling on Sabrina, who immediately rushed to his side.

“Alpha,” she whimpered, tears streaming down her face. “Juniper attacked me! She’s trying to discredit me because she’s jealous of my wolf’s strength!”

Felipe’s expression darkened as he turned to me. “Is this true, Juniper?”

I met his gaze, my voice unwavering. “She’s lying, Alpha. She used a forbidden potion to weaken me. She’s the one who’s unfit to be a Delta.”

Felipe’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I thought he might believe me. But then he shook his head, his voice heavy with disappointment.

“Juniper, you’ve always been strong, but this… this is unacceptable. You’ve brought shame to the pack. I can’t let this go unpunished.”

I felt my heart sink as he turned to the elders. “As Alpha of the Silver Crescent Pack, I recommend that Juniper Howell be stripped of her Delta status and demoted to Omega.”

The words hit me like a physical blow, and I felt my wolf’s essence flicker weakly within me. Sabrina’s smirk widened as she stepped forward, her voice dripping with triumph.

“You heard the Alpha, Juniper. You’re nothing but an Omega now. You’ll never be fit to lead this pack.”

I clenched my fists, my claws extending as my anger boiled over. “You’re wrong,” I growled. “I’ll prove it. I’ll show everyone that I’m the true heir to this pack.”

As the elders moved to enforce Felipe’s decree, I felt a surge of defiance. I wouldn’t let them take this from me. I would fight back, no matter the cost. Because I knew the truth—I was Juniper Howell, and I would not be defeated.

Chapter 2

Sabrina’s shoulder was slashed open, blood pouring down her arm. Alpha Mathew’s eyes burned with fury as he lunged at me, his Alpha aura radiating like a storm. His claws struck with the force of a hurricane, slamming me against a stone pillar. The impact knocked the air from my lungs, and I tasted blood as it splattered across my pale dress.

“Sabrina is the future Luna of this pack!” he roared, his voice echoing with the authority of an Alpha. “How dare you lay a hand on her!”

I wiped the blood from my lips with my sleeve, glaring up at him with defiance. “You’re blind to the truth,” I spat. “A leader who can’t see through a rogue’s lies is no leader at all. This pack will fall under your watch.”

His eyes, clouded with rage, locked onto me as if he could crush me with his gaze alone. Sabrina seized the moment, pointing at me with a triumphant sneer.

“How dare you disrespect the Alpha! If Father saw you now, he’d be ashamed of you!”

As if on cue, Alpha Felipe stormed into the hall, his expression darkening as he took in the scene. Sabrina’s face instantly melted into a mask of vulnerability, and she rushed to his side, clutching her wounded arm.

“Father,” she whimpered, her voice trembling with false pain. “Juniper attacked me. She’s gone mad!”

Felipe’s eyes flickered to me, and for a moment, I saw the disappointment etched into his features. But when Sabrina mentioned Flame—the rare crimson wolf that had marked me as special—his face lit up with pride.

“My daughter,” he said, pulling Sabrina into a tight embrace. “You’ve always been the one I could count on.”

His gaze turned back to me, cold and unforgiving. “Juniper, I’ve given you everything—the best training, the best resources. And this is how you repay me? By attacking your sister and disrespecting your Alpha? You’re no daughter of mine. I’ll deal with you myself.”

I laughed bitterly, the sound echoing through the hall. “There’s an easy way to settle this,” I said, my voice steady despite the pain coursing through my body. “Use your scent to discern the truth. The scents don’t lie.”

His face twisted with anger. “Lies!” he bellowed. “Sabrina would never deceive me. You’re just jealous of her. How could I have raised such a spiteful child?”

He raised his claws, his Alpha aura intensifying as he prepared to strike. But before he could, a figure darted in front of me—Luna Emery.

She shoved me to the ground, shielding me with her body as Felipe’s attack grazed her shoulder. Blood soaked through her dress, but she didn’t falter. Her eyes burned with determination as she glared at him.

“I believe Juniper,” she said, her voice unwavering. “She wouldn’t do this without reason. If you want to hurt her, you’ll have to go through me first.”

Felipe’s rage only grew. “You’re defending her?” he shouted. “She attacked her sister and defied our Alpha! This is the kind of discipline you’ve taught her?”

Emery’s grip on me tightened, her voice fierce. “As long as I’m alive, no one will lay a finger on her.”
