Chapter 1

I smoothed my hands over the silky fabric of my dress for the twentieth time, checking my reflection in the mirror. The deep burgundy material hugged my curves perfectly, and I'd spent hours on my makeup and hair. Everything had to be flawless tonight. Our third anniversary deserved nothing less.

My fingers trembled slightly as I fastened the silver pendant Alexander had given me on our first anniversary around my neck. The weight of it felt like a promise—like proof that I belonged to the Silverfang Pack, to him. That I wasn't just some low-ranking she-wolf from the Moonveil Pack anymore. I was his chosen mate.

"You look beautiful," I whispered to my reflection, trying to believe it. "He'll be pleased."

The banquet wouldn't begin for another hour, but I knew Alexander would be in his private chamber, preparing his anniversary speech. I wanted to surprise him, maybe steal a moment alone before we had to share our celebration with the entire pack.

The hallways of the Silverfang Pack house were eerily quiet as I made my way toward the Alpha's wing. My heels clicked against the marble floors, echoing in the silence. A strange feeling crept up my spine—something wasn't right. My wolf stirred uneasily within me, which was odd. She rarely made her presence known; I was a late bloomer, my wolf still weak and underdeveloped despite my age.

I paused outside Alexander's door, hearing muffled voices from within. Perhaps he was with Beta James, discussing pack business before the banquet. I raised my hand to knock, then hesitated. The scent wafting from under the door wasn't James's familiar pine and leather. This was something floral, feminine, and... intimate.

My heart hammered against my ribs as I slowly pushed the door open.

Candles flickered throughout the room, casting long shadows across the walls. On the bed—our bed—Alexander's powerful form moved rhythmically over another woman. Her silver-streaked hair spilled across my pillows, her moans filling the space that should have held my voice.

"Victoria," he groaned, burying his face in her neck. "My true Luna."

I couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. The room spun around me as if I were falling, though my feet remained rooted to the floor.

Then something extraordinary happened. A searing pain tore through my mind as a voice—wild, fierce, and undeniably mine—roared to life inside me.

*He betrayed us! Kill them both!*

My wolf—my long-dormant, supposedly weak wolf—had awakened with a vengeance. And with her came a flood of memories that weren't mine. No, they were Alexander's thoughts, bleeding into mine through a mind-link I'd never been strong enough to access before.

Images flashed through my consciousness: Alexander whispering to council members about my "concerning sympathies toward rogues"; Alexander instructing the training master to exclude me from combat lessons; Alexander laughing with Victoria about keeping his "silver pet" while they built their true alliance.

"A rogue sympathizer," he had called me to the pack elders. "Beautiful but unstable. Unfit for true Luna duties."

I gasped, the sound finally alerting them to my presence. Alexander's head whipped around, his eyes widening as they met mine.

"Sophia," he said, his voice instantly shifting to the smooth, controlled tone he always used with me. He didn't even bother to disentangle himself from Victoria. "You're early, pet."

Victoria's lips curled into a cruel smile as she ran her fingers possessively down Alexander's chest. "Happy anniversary," she purred.

Something snapped inside me. I turned and ran, tears blinding me as I stumbled down the hallway toward the main hall where pack members were gathering for the banquet. I didn't care who saw me like this anymore.

"Alexander has been lying!" I screamed, my voice breaking as I entered the crowded space. "He spread rumors about me—called me a rogue sympathizer!"

The room fell silent, dozens of eyes turning to stare at me. Then Alexander was there, his powerful Alpha aura filling the room. He was dressed now, his face a mask of concern.

"I want to break our bond," I said, my voice shaking but determined. "I reject you as my mate."

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Alexander's expression darkened, his eyes flashing dangerously as he stalked toward me.

"You reject me?" he laughed, the sound like broken glass. Then his voice dropped, taking on the unmistakable resonance of an Alpha command. "You are MINE, Sophia. A beautiful wolf in a gilded cage—nothing more. You exist for my entertainment, for my use. You don't get to reject me."

His Alpha tone crushed against my consciousness, forcing my wolf to cower. But she fought back with newfound strength, howling in rage and pain.

I looked around at the faces of the pack members—some pitying, some amused, none surprised. They had all known. For three years, I had given everything to a man who saw me as nothing but a possession.

Without another word, I turned and ran from the pack house. My body shifted mid-stride, bones cracking and reforming as my wolf took control. We raced through the forest, paws pounding against the earth, until we reached the highest cliff in Silverfang territory.

Below, the jagged rocks and rushing river promised an end to this unbearable pain. My wolf howled once—a sound of utter despair—before we leaped into the empty air.

As we fell, a strange light enveloped us, warm and silver like moonlight. A gentle voice whispered in my mind:

*Not yet, my daughter. Your story isn't finished.*

Then darkness claimed me.

I gasped awake, my heart racing as I sat bolt upright in bed. Sunlight streamed through my window—morning sunlight. I glanced at my phone on the nightstand: 7:15 AM, March 15th. Our anniversary.

It had been a dream. No—something more. My wolf stirred within me, stronger than ever before.

*Not a dream,* she growled. *A second chance.*

Chapter 2

I woke with a gasp, my heart hammering against my ribs as the memory of falling—of dying—lingered in my mind. Sunlight streamed through my window, casting golden patterns across the familiar burgundy bedspread. My phone glowed on the nightstand: 7:15 AM, March 15th. Our anniversary.

A second chance.

My wolf stirred within me, stronger and more present than she had ever been before. I could feel her rage, her determination.

*We end this today,* she growled in my mind, her voice clear and fierce.

"Who are you?" I whispered, pressing my palm against my chest where her presence burned hottest.

*I'm Emma,* she replied. *I've always been here, but he kept us weak. Not anymore.*

I slid from the bed, my legs trembling not with fear but with purpose. The knowledge of what would happen today—what had already happened in another timeline—steeled my resolve. No burgundy dress today. No hours spent on makeup to please a man who saw me as nothing but a possession.

Instead, I pulled on jeans and a simple blue sweater, tying my hair back in a practical ponytail. I didn't need to look perfect anymore. I needed to look like myself—whoever that was after three years of molding myself into Alexander's ideal.

"He'll be in his study," I murmured to Emma as I slipped from my room. "He always watches the sunrise from there before important pack events."

The hallways of the Silverfang Pack house were quiet, most members still sleeping or preparing for the day's festivities. My footsteps were nearly silent as I made my way to the eastern wing where Alexander's private study overlooked the territory.

I didn't knock. That small act of defiance sent a thrill through me as I pushed the heavy oak door open.

Alexander stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, his powerful silhouette outlined by the golden morning light. He turned at my entrance, surprise flickering across his handsome features before his lips curved into that practiced smile—the one that had once made my heart race but now only made my stomach turn.

"Sophia," he said, his voice warm with false affection. "You're up early, pet. Excited for our celebration?"

I met his gaze steadily, drawing strength from Emma's growls echoing in my mind. "There won't be a celebration."

His smile faltered, eyes narrowing slightly. "What do you mean?"

I stepped further into the room, maintaining the distance between us. My wolf urged me to stand tall, shoulders back, chin lifted—not the submissive posture he was accustomed to.

"I know everything, Alexander. About Victoria. About how you've been spreading lies about me to the pack. About how you've been keeping my wolf suppressed."

His expression darkened, a flash of genuine surprise crossing his face before his Alpha mask slipped back into place. "You're confused, Sophia. Perhaps you had a bad dream—"

"No more lies," I cut him off, my voice stronger than it had ever been in his presence. "I, Sophia Martinez of the Moonveil Pack, reject you, Alexander Sterling, Alpha of the Silverfang Pack, as my mate."

The formal words hung in the air between us, heavy with power. Alexander's face contorted with rage, his Alpha aura surging outward like a physical force, pressing against me, trying to make me submit.

"You can't reject me," he snarled, stalking toward me. "You are MINE."

Emma roared within me, pushing back against his aura with newfound strength. I stood my ground, even as he towered over me.

"I just did," I replied, my voice steady despite the trembling in my limbs. "And now I'm going to tell everyone the truth."

Before he could grab me, I turned and walked out, my wolf guiding my steps toward the council chambers where I knew the pack elders would be gathering for their morning meeting.

Alexander's footsteps thundered behind me, but I didn't look back. For the first time in three years, I was walking forward—toward a future that was mine to choose.

The massive doors of the council chamber loomed before me. I pushed them open without hesitation, striding into the circular room where seven elders sat around an ancient wooden table. Their heads turned in unison, expressions ranging from surprise to disapproval at my interruption.

"Elders of the Silverfang Pack," I announced, my voice ringing clear in the vaulted chamber. "I come before you to expose a deception and claim my right to freedom."

Emma howled in triumph within me as I prepared to shatter the lies that had imprisoned us both for far too long.

Chapter 3

The Pacific Northwest multi-pack gathering buzzed with activity around me, but I might as well have been walking through a ghost town. Werewolves parted before me like water around a stone, their eyes following my progress with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. I kept my chin up, shoulders back—the posture Emma had taught me to maintain even when I felt like crumbling inside.

'They can smell our silver markings,' Emma growled within me. 'They know we're different.'

I nodded slightly, acknowledging her observation without speaking aloud. In the month since I'd left the Silverfang Pack, I'd learned to communicate silently with my wolf. She was my constant companion now, the only one I could truly trust.

The scents of dozens of different packs mingled in the air—pine and earth, river water and mountain stone. I moved between the colorful tents alone, my status as a packless wolf evident in my solitary movements. No Alpha walked protectively at my side. No packmates flanked me. Just me and Emma, navigating this dangerous new world together.

I made my way toward the food tents, hoping to grab something before retreating to the small tent I'd been assigned at the edge of the gathering grounds. The less time spent in public, the better. Alexander had connections in many packs, and I couldn't risk—

'Someone's following us,' Emma warned suddenly, her presence sharpening within me. 'Male. Young. Been tracking us for a while.'

I tensed, my hand instinctively reaching for the small silver dagger hidden in my boot. I'd learned that lesson the hard way after Richard Hayes had cornered me during a pack run. Never again would I be defenseless.

Before I could turn to confront my follower, a young man appeared directly in my path, moving with the fluid grace of a born predator. He was handsome in a wild way—dark hair falling across intense eyes that studied me with unsettling focus.

'It is you,' he said, his voice tinged with wonder and excitement. 'I knew I wasn't imagining it.'

I took a step back, my fingers tightening around the handle of my concealed weapon. 'Who are you?'

'Marcus Chen, Stormcrest Pack,' he replied, taking another step toward me, seemingly oblivious to my discomfort. 'I've been tracking your scent for months. It's... extraordinary. Silver and moonlight with something else I can't quite place.'

My heart hammered against my ribs. This wasn't the first time a male wolf had shown interest in me since I'd left Alexander, but something about Marcus's intensity set off alarm bells.

'You've been tracking me?' I repeated, injecting steel into my voice even as Emma growled warnings in my mind.

Marcus nodded eagerly. 'Ever since I caught it on the wind near the northern border. My brother thought I was obsessed, but I knew—'

'Marcus.'

The single word cut through our conversation like a blade. A taller, broader figure materialized behind Marcus, his presence commanding immediate attention without the oppressive force of an Alpha aura. There was something steady about him, like a mountain that had weathered countless storms.

'You're frightening her,' the newcomer said quietly, placing a restraining hand on Marcus's shoulder.

'I wasn't—' Marcus began to protest, but fell silent under the older man's steady gaze.

The stranger turned to me, keeping a respectful distance that made my tense muscles relax slightly. His eyes—dark and perceptive—seemed to take in everything about me in a single glance: my defensive posture, the wariness in my expression, the slight tremor in my hands.

'I apologize for my brother's lack of boundaries,' he said, his voice deep and calm. 'I'm David Chen, Beta of the Stormcrest Pack.'

Something about his tone—the complete absence of condescension or predatory interest—made Emma quiet her warnings.

'Sophia Martinez,' I replied cautiously.

A flicker of recognition crossed his features, but he didn't comment on my former pack or status. Instead, he simply nodded.

'You're alone here,' he observed. Not a question, but not an accusation either.

I lifted my chin slightly. 'By choice.'

The corner of his mouth twitched—not quite a smile, but something close to approval. 'A dangerous choice at a gathering like this. Many would see a lone she-wolf as an opportunity.'

'I can handle myself,' I replied, though the memory of Richard Hayes and other unwanted encounters flashed through my mind.

David studied me for a moment longer, then said, 'The Stormcrest Pack offers its protection to those who seek refuge, Ms. Martinez. Should you find yourself in need of allies, our territory lies north of here, beyond the Silver River.'

Before I could respond, shouts erupted from the central gathering area. The familiar scent of Silverfang Pack members drifted toward us on the breeze.

David's expression darkened. 'Consider my offer,' he said quietly. 'Before your past catches up with you.'
