Chapter 5

"It was evening already, and Amy was in the living room, watching TV and munching on an apple, while Lucas was upstairs doing whatever thing that wasn't her business.

She hadn't gone to work, as she was on a month leave, which was given to her to have fun with her newly wedded husband.

Staying a week in his house, Amy had discovered that Lucas hadn't fully regained his memory. His remembrance of the past was just partial, and he couldn't fully remember all.

She didn't want to start relating history so as not to trigger his brain to try to remember something by force. She had let Ava keep on with the flow of her lies, and at the perfect time, just as he was able to partially remember some things, he will fully remember all.

While immersed in the event on the TV, the sudden rush of Lucas out of the elevator startled her, and she jumped out of her seat in fear, running after him, who was already at the door.

"You are here." Amy heard Lucas call out to someone who was standing outside, and after catching her breath and getting a hold of her shaky body, Amy stretched her head to see who Lucas was talking to, and her heart missed a skip when she saw Ava standing at the front of the door with all her life's luggage.

Without thinking or waiting, Amy stepped forward and gave Lucas a hard push before slamming the door on Ava, who was about to step into her house.

"She can't come into this house. I don't want her here." Amy said stubbornly, standing, her weight resting on one leg, her arms crossed across her breast, and resting her back against the wall to stop Lucas from going out and Ava from coming.

"What do you mean? Why can't she come into my own house?" Lucas asked, wearing a lost expression.

"Not just your house now. We are married couples; it's now our house. Besides, you didn't tell me that anyone would be coming?" She argued, her gaze never leaving his hardened eyes.

Lucas shook his head, his patience wearing out. He was trying very hard to talk gently with her, but she was being difficult.

"I didn't tell you? Were you deaf when I said it in the hospital that she will be leaving with us?" He growled.

"No, I wasn't. I heard that, but you weren't speaking to me. You were telling Ava, and for a moment, I thought she was going to be your wife; that's why I laughed out." Amy explained, and she stopped talking when she noticed Lucas walking toward her.

With a finger pointed to her face, almost entering her eyes, he warned, "Don't you dare give her your evil name. Her name is Amy, not Ava." He barked.

Seeing the dangerous look on his face, a feeling of fear flashed across her face, but she quickly masked it with one of amusement, and just like she had always done, she burst out laughing.

Lucas had been deeply deceived. She thought, shaking her head in pity for him. However, she didn't argue. He was outrightly fighting for her even though he wasn't aware of it.

Marching away from her, he made his way to the door with the mindset of bringing in Ava, who had been locked outside the penthouse house by Amy.

"One more step from you and I'll go online and announce to the world how a newly wedded married man wants to invite a mistress into his house. You know it will destroy your good name, right?" Amy threatened while walking to the sofa to get her phone.

Her gaze was mean, and her voice was hard, meaning that she wasn't speaking empty threats and she was truly going to do it.

Seeing Lucas halt in his steps and his body stiffening, Amy let out a small smile. He was afraid of getting his reputation soiled. He wasn't going to dare her.

He turned around to face her, his teeth on his lip, biting it down as he tried to calm his rage.

"It's late already, and she can't sleep outside. Can't you let her stay for the night?" He tried his best to speak calmly.

"No. Call a ride to take her back to wherever she's coming from. Taxi drivers still work by this time, don't they?" She asked mockingly.

Lucas wasn't a man who spent time arguing. He knew that he wasn't going to win that night, and he called Ava and pleaded with her to give him some days. He was about to order his driver to take her back to their parents' house, but Amy stopped him.

I said a taxi driver, not any of the workers. It's late, and he has to drive me out tomorrow. We wouldn't want to stress him over an unimportant thing, would we?" She questioned softly, making puppy eyes to the annoyance of Lucas.

With an exasperated sigh, Lucas gave in to her command and ordered a taxi driver who didn't waste time to come, and within some minutes, Ava was on her way back to her parents' house.

"There's no need for a visitor. We are married couples; let's enjoy ourselves together, alright?" Amy said to Lucas, who was at the barstand gulping down glasses of strong wine to quench his rage.

Thirty minutes after Ava had gone, Lucas's phone buzzed sharply on the bar stand. He snatched it up, only for his face to twist in shock at the words on the other end.

"What! Amy was involved in an accident? How? Where's the location-send it to me right now!"

His voice thundered with authority as he grabbed his coat and dashed toward the door. But just as his hand touched the knob, he froze.

Amy was already standing there, her expression unreadable, her eyes cold.

"It's late already," she said in a flat, measured tone, slipping the keys into her pocket. "I wouldn't want my man wandering into danger... not tonight."

Chapter 6

If only the eyes could kill, Amy would have been long dead because Lucas's eyes shot fire and brimstone when he saw Amy do what she did.

His phone kept on ringing and buzzing as calls and different messages poured in.

Amy, in an unbothered manner, had strolled back to the cushion and crossed her legs, an apple in her hands.

Lucas, on the other hand, stood rooted to a spot, confused about what to do. His hands itched badly to beat Amy, but he knew he couldn't because it was against the law, and he also didn't want a bad name.

He walked up to her, his body burning in rage. "What are you doing?" He asked through clenched teeth.

"Saving you from the evil of the night." She was aware that Lucas was afraid of darkness. He hated any dark place and black outfits.

"Have you gone insane? Did I tell you I need you to save me?" He dragged each word in anger, his voice sounding so angry.

"You don't need to tell me. I am your wife, and I know that, and I should be there to save you even if you don't ask for my help." Amy answered with a big smile on her face before biting her teeth into her apple.

Lines of frustration stretched out on Lucas' head, and despite the high AC turned on in the house, sweat was still dripping down his forehead.

He paced around the room trying very hard to breathe in enough air to keep from running out of patience before he spoke again to Amy. This time, he tried to speak as softly as he could so as not to triple Amy's anger.

"Ava, your sister is out there, lying all alone on the road with no one by her side." Lucas started, his words coming out from his lips one by one in a gentle manner, but his hands, which were behind him, curled up in a fist.

"C'mon darling husband, don't be so dramatic." Amy drawled in a sweet voice, also trying to act calm and understanding so that Lucas could also understand her own point. "She isn't alone. The people disturbing your phone with calls are by her side, and if they are not enough, the only help you can render to her is to call her parents. Anything apart from that, you won't be doing it." Amy said plainly, forcing her lips to spread in a smile to reduce the sharpness of her voice.

Lucas was helpless as he stood giving her a deep, piercing, hateful gaze.

After staring for a while and getting no reaction from Amy, who was seated comfortably munching her apple, Lucas thundered in a cruel voice, "I swear, if anything should happen to Amy, I'll strangle you to death." He fumed before marching into the elevator, his fingers tapping furiously on his phone.

"Don't worry, darling husband. Nothing will happen to Amy; she's right here with you." She whispered.

The next day, Amy decided to visit her parents' house. Yes, she had a loathing towards them, and she disliked Ava, but nevertheless, she was still her twin sister, and she was supposed to show concern.

On getting to the entrance of her parents' duplex, a servant opened the door for her, and when the female servant saw that she was the one, she eyed her scornfully and said in a voice high in disdain, "My lady said not to allow you into her house."

Amy looked down at her from head to toe while inwardly feeling a bit insulted. This human being was nothing but a rag in her sight, but just for the sake of humanity, she was still trying to accord her some respect, but it seems that the servant was far from being respected.

"Are you sick?" Amy asked, a disrespectful smirk on her face.

"Should I remind you of your position in this house? I'd better remind you. You are nothing but a servant–a dirty thing to everyone in the house, including me. If you don't want to hear more of what you are, you had better get your ugly self away from this entrance this instant." She said with a venomous voice.

Her words and harsh look reset the maid's head, and she quickly bowed her head, trying to apologize. She had been working with the Ronald's family for two years, and although she hadn't seen Amy before, she was familiar with the attitude and words dished out to Amy even in her absence.

On seeing Amy, she had immediately guessed that she was the lady making Miss Amy-Ava-sad and wanting to act like a loyal maid. She tried to be disrespectful to her, but she got slapped on the face by Amy's word.

Amy wasn't going to settle for nonsense again. She was no longer the fearful, timid little child of seven years old. She was now a smart, pretty lady of twenty-six who no one could look down on again.

Getting into the living room, Amy saw her mom and dad standing over a sofa, their backs turned against her.

Curiosity took the best of her, and she stretched her neck to see what they were looking at, and her eyes widened in shock when she saw Ava seated on a man's thigh, and the man was no other than Lucas.

She fumed inwardly, her fist forming a bunch. She was here to check up on her sister, but she caught her husband, who had asked for the key to leave the house so that he could go to work.

He had lied to her, and she would punish him when she got home, but now, she was taking that bitch away from her husband's body and she will make sure whatever she says annoys Ava.

"Lucas, darling," she cooed softly, "I got your message for help, and I'm here to save you. You don't have to be afraid-I even brought two strong men with me. Now, love... push that scary thing off you, and come into my arms." Amy called out, her calm but commanding voice announcing her arrival.
