Chapter 2

No one believed that she didn't let go of him on purpose. Ava wasn't helping issues because rather than confess that she was the one who pulled her away from Lucas, she told everyone that Amy had dared Ava to race with Lucas, whom she knew couldn't ice-skate.

Again, her parents blamed her for being the cause of Lucas' ailment, and thinking she had hurt Ava, they took Ava back to the city and abandoned her, this time, for good in the countryside.

Lucas' parents also relocated to the city so that they could put their only son in the best hospital.

Amy felt terribly lonely and devastated. She had cried every single day. She had tried to kill herself, but her grandmother never let her out of her sight for once.

"I believe you, Amy. You have a kind heart, and you have always cared for Lucas. I know that you didn't abandon him. Something had happened, and no one is telling the truth about it. Forget about everything; I'll be here for you any day and any time." Her granny had constantly comforted her with those words.

Years passed, and at age eighteen, Amy got into a local college to study surgical medicine. She heard nothing about Ava or her parents. There was also no news about Lucas, whose parents cut her and her grandma off from their lives.

While in the local college, she had been studious and determined to be the best. Well, her seriousness paid off because she received a scholarship to study abroad in one of the best colleges.

Eight years later, Amy became one of the most sought-after surgeons. She was skilled with her medical instruments, and her brain was twice as fast as a calculator when it came to the operation.

Having successfully operated on thirteen patients without any mention of accident or death, Amy became the best surgeon in the city.

Several years had passed, but Amy hadn't forgotten about Lucas and Ava, including her parents, but still, she decided to live while hoping to see them one day. To reward her granny for her priceless love for her, she bought a mansion for her grandma and a penthouse for herself.

"I want great-grandchildren. When are you going to introduce your man to me?" Her granny had constantly rung in her ears, but she usually jokingly brushed the topic under the carpet.

She wasn't interested in getting married at age twenty-six. The only love of her life was nowhere to be found, and no one had stolen his place in her heart yet.

A gala occasion came up for top professionals, and Amy was invited. She dressed so simply and classily. No one in the outside world really knew her because she didn't allow the hospital she worked in to announce her fame. She wanted a private life and not one being chased after by reporters.

Dressed in a short, golden, sleeveless gown with expensive heels, the right amount of makeup on her face, and her hair rolled up into a bun, Amy was looking beautiful as she walked majestically into the hall that was grand and stunning.

She was acknowledged by people who knew her and ignored by people who didn't. The party was going on well, and Amy was loving it, but her joy was cut short when the host came onto the stage.

In shock, the wine glass in Amy's hand shattered on the glass floor when she saw Lucas Tyson, her best friend and first love, being introduced as the host.

All eyes had turned to her, and they were clearly able to see her because she was under the light.

On hearing the clattering sound, Lucas had turned his gaze to the direction the sound came from, and the smiley expression on his face deepened into a frown when he saw Amy.

"Babe, I am here." A shrill voice was suddenly heard from the background, and the bearer of the voice walked onto the stage wearing a sweeping, shining, armless black gown that had a daring slit that exposed her long, hairy left leg and glowing olive skin.

"Ava," Amy found the words coming out of her mouth in a whisper, a dumbfounded look slamming on her face.

Seeing that Lucas wasn't paying attention to her, Ava's eyes followed Lucas' deadly gaze, and they fell on Amy, who was standing on a spot, her hands trembling, tears streaming down her face.

"Whoa! They look alike. Are they twins?" One man had asked, and his question gave rise to loud exclamations and small chatter between the guests.

Amy ignored them and walked-ran up to the stage to hug her sister, whom she hadn't seen for years, but she stopped in her tracks when Ava let out a high cry like she was being strangled and hid at the back of Lucas, and Lucas, with speed, lurched forward and pushed back Amy from coming closer.

She stumbled on her heels and found herself rolling on the steps that led to the stage. Immediately she landed on the last one; pain shot through her bones, and her body felt hot like she was burning in a fire because the pain was squeezing every bone in her body.

"Ouch!" She had cried, hot tears pouring down her face, a hurting look mixed with shock on her face, which she raised up to look at Lucas.

"She's the one. That's my sister who had hurt me and had also caused you to be hospitalised for years. She's back to hurt me because you are with me. Get her out of here, or else she's going to kill me." Ava screamed, unexpected tears rolling from her eyes while pointing at Amy, who was also crying on the floor.

She was screaming so loud and acting really scared, and to perfect her act, she fainted. She was almost landing on the floor when Lucas grabbed her and carried her into his arms before turning to Amy's direction, and with teeth clenched together, he threatened,

"Ava, I promise to end your life if anything happens to my girlfriend, Amy."

Chapter 3

"How dare you speak to your mother in that manner?" The loud, angry voice of her father had made her heart jump, and she dragged her mind back to the present, the past flashing away from her head.

Tears had begun to flow from her eyes as she was thinking about what had happened to her when she saw Lucas and Ava, and she quickly wiped them off.

"Tsk. Why the fake tears now? Are you looking for a person to pity you?" Her mom scoffed, the words in her mouth coming out with hatred.

"Does an evil person seek pity from good human beings? If you want to be pitied, ask for another thing from Lucas and don't try to steal him away from Amy." Her mom screamed the last part of her words.

Amy shot her eyes up, her brows narrowing and her eyes wandering about as she began thinking.

"Amy? I don't get it. Are you so confused you can't get our names right again? I am A..."

"Shut that trash you call a mouth. We didn't ask for any explanation. We are your parents who named the both of you, and whatever we like, we will call you, alright?" Her dad barked at her, spit flying from his mouth and landing on her face.

As she rubbed the spit off her face, she stared at them, her eyes gradually widening in surprise.

She was beginning to understand something. Her mother calling her Ava the other time wasn't a mistake. They had now changed her name to Ava and Ava's to Amy.

Something was wrong. Had Lucas regained his memory and remembered her? Are they trying to make Ava become her?

Two feelings rushed into her mind. First, a joyful feeling that Lucas might have regained his memory and had remembered her, and the second feeling was one of rage. Her parents were trying to make her become Ava, whom she was sure Lucas hated, and make Ava become Amy, the person he has always loved.

She didn't blame Lucas for not being able to detect their lies because she and Ava looked very identical. Now that she knew their plan, she was never going to agree to being Ava.

"Hahaha," she laughed devilishly while throwing her head backwards.

After having a good laugh, she bent her head a bit to her parents' level and whispered, "Is this the scheme you both are up to? Trying to give Ava my name because Lucas has regained his memory and remembered me?"

At her last sentence, she heard her father take a long breath, his breathing hoarse and sounding ugly.

Her mom's facial reaction confirmed her guess because a look of fear crossed her face before it instantly turned to one of rage.

Raising her lips to a corner, Amy whispered, "Not this time, Mom and Dad. I won't give Ava what has always been mine again. This time, I am getting him back whether you like it or not." She promised, her voice hard and filled with coldness.

At first, when she had told Lucas to get married to her, she was a bit scared of her parents, but after understanding their scheme, her fear dissipated, and boldness mixed with fury grew within her.

Taking a step back away from her fuming parents, Amy walked up to Lucas, who stood tall, his handsome face masked up with disgust.

She wasn't a bit concerned about how he felt. He had been deceived, and it was her duty to save him since it's what she had been doing ever since she met him.

"Do you agree to the marriage, or do you want her dead?" Amy asked with confidence, tilting her head back, waiting for his answer.

"I can't." He growled. "I got engaged to Amy a long time ago, and I promised that when the time is right, we will be getting married, and I am sure you are aware that our marriage is in a week." Lucas spoke with clenched teeth, veins popping out from his neck as he growled at her.

Her heart fell, and her eyes became misty. Gosh! He had truly regained his memory because he still remembered his promise to her.

"When she was twelve years old and Lucas fourteen, they had read a romantic novel together, and in the novel, the billionaire man left his wife and chased after a mistress. Lucas was angered by the character's action towards his wife, and he threw the novel away.

"Don't read that." He has said while stroking away the strands of hair falling and covering his face.

"No man should be like him, and no woman should be treated like that. If you make me your husband, you will never be treated like that. I'll love you till we die." He had told her with a sincere voice, his eyes looking deep into her soul.

"Do you want to become my husband and love me till we die?" Amy had asked.

"Yes." He nodded.

"Then propose." Amy had cajoled him, with her hands rubbing his face.

Without hesitating, Lucas had kneeled and popped the question, "Amy Ronald, will you marry me?"

With tears in her eyes, she had accepted, and right there, Lucas put an invisible ring on her hand. "On this day, I have gotten engaged with the most precious gem the world has offered me, and I promise to get married to her when the time is right." He had yelled loudly in the woods where they were.

"What if something happens and you don't?" Amy had asked him playfully.

"Nothing will ever happen. You will be by my side till I die. If I don't get married to you, let the evil fairy witch strike me dead." He had proclaimed with a serious face, and Amy agreed with a smile.

They had been young and didn't know what the future held for them. Their wishes would have come to pass if only Ava hadn't shown up.

As she thought about their promises, she wasn't conscious that she had begun sobbing. She couldn't hold back the tears, and she fell onto her knees, her face in her palms, her sob hard and pitiful.

She missed Lucas. She missed him so much she couldn't explain it.

She wasn't going to let the evil fairy strike her man. She was going to help him fulfill his wish by getting married to him no matter what.

"Ava will die..." She began with a cracked voice but was shut up by her mom.

"Of course you will die, Ava, if you keep on giving Amy your evil name." Her mom screamed at her.

They were in the hospital reception, and whilst giving one another deadly stares, a doctor hurriedly walked up to them.

"Mr. Ronald, time isn't on our side again. We need the kidney donor now, or else, in less than an hour, Miss Amy will be dead."

Hearing that, Lucas' heart flew into his mouth, and without thinking, he announced, "I'll marry you, Ava. Give your kidney now to Amy."

Chapter 4

The kidney operation was successful, and Ava was alive.

"How could you, Lucas? Why would you agree to marry a killer? Do you want to get killed? Why put your life at risk for my sake? You should have just allowed me to die rather than get married to her!" Ava had wailed terribly when she was told what Lucas agreed to.

"I am sorry, Amy. I did it to save you. I don't want you dead; I can't live without you." Lucas said with a low, sad voice, his eyes getting misty, and he blinked so hard, trying to push back his tears.

They were all in Ava's private hospital room. While Amy lay on the bed, which was placed at the far end of the room with no one by her side, Ava was surrounded by their parents and Lucas, each trying to console her.

Amy knew she wasn't crying because she cared about Lucas. She was shedding those fake tears because she knew she had lost to her.

Amy knew that Ava was just with Lucas because of his wealth. Lucas had grown to become a multimillionaire who was well known in the country and across the country. He had inherited his grandfather's empire, which his dad had refused to take over because he wasn't skilled in business and partnership activities.

His grandfather had sent his parents to live in the countryside, where they were to see to the affairs of the massive lands he owned over there, and during their stay there, they gave birth to their only son and child, Lucas.

Although they were crazily rich, they were also really humble because they treated her and her granny with love and respect.

Lucas was trained to be humble and loving and also to become a giver. Ava was attracted to his wealth and his handsome face and not to his inner strength.

She was someone who was protected and trained with wealth. Although their parents weren't as rich as Lucas' family, they could still afford the basics and more for up to three kids, but they chose to only provide for one child while they sent the other to live with her granny, who had little with her but did her best to give her the best she could.

Amy also knew that Ava knew nothing about Lucas' health, as he was someone who grew up with asthma. She knew that Ava couldn't handle a scare, and she wouldn't waste time to dump Lucas if she knew the kind of sickness he had.

Amy wasn't going to let Lucas get dumped by Ava after she must have taken something large for him.

"I promise you, she's just bearing the Mrs. title; she doesn't mean anything to me. You are the one I love, and I'll make sure I do everything for you, my wife." Lucas promised Ava, hugging her tightly and patting her head.

Sniffing back the nonsense liquid running from her nose, Ava asked, "You know we made an arrangement for me to move into your penthouse with you. Now that you will be getting married to her, I can no longer live with you." She shrieked loudly, her noise stinging Amy's ear.

Amy lay quietly watching the drama while shaking her head in pity for Ava because she knew that Ava wouldn't be able to handle what she had in store for her if she should cross her boundaries.

Ava's heavy cry filled the room, and Amy was pained because she had no headphones to use in blocking the stupid noise. Crying and shaking her body on purpose, Amy watched with disdain as Ava was being comforted.

Darn! The bitch could act. One could swear that she was an actress if they saw her acts, but unluckily, Ava was a lawyer. No wonder it was easy for her to manipulate Lucas into believing that she was Amy. She had made use of her manipulative and argumentative skills, and with lying evidence, she had deceived Lucas.

"Dearie, no need to be sad. Of course, you will still be moving into the penthouse and staying with me in my room. That wicked lady who isn't worthy to be called your sister is just a guest in the house who will be staying in the guest room." Lucas explained, and his words instantly struck a laughing nerve in Amy's body.

She took them aback by laughing out madly, and for some minutes, they all stopped fussing over Ava and looked at her.

"Is she insane?" Ava had asked, pausing her sobs.

Their mom nodded. "Definitely, because no sane person will steal another person's husband." She said in contempt to spite the laughing Amy, but her words made Ava begin her sobs again.

After having a good laugh, Amy said nothing. She just couldn't wait to become the legal wife of Lucas. She will make sure that no one, except her granny, steps their feet into Lucas' penthouse, which will soon become hers.

A week later, she walked down the aisle all alone because her father had refused to walk with her. She wasn't in the least bothered about his refusal. Even if he had wanted to, she wouldn't have agreed.

With a triumphant smile on her face, she leaned forward to Lucas, her feet on tiptoes when the priest proclaimed them as husband and wife and asked for the kiss.

Amy could feel the dagger-like stares shooting at her as she kissed Lucas, whose whole body was stiff.

No one was in support of their marriage, not even Lucas' parents, whom Ava had brainwashed. They all loved and wanted the fake Amy, and she was a bit glad that she was still remembered by them even though they couldn't recognize her.

Lucas and the remaining of her haters had wanted a humble wedding with only the attendance of families, but Amy had protested to it and requested a large wedding where she had to invite the people she knew.

She wanted everyone to know her as the legal wife of Lucas Tyson and not the mistress that Ava will be.

The wedding ended, and holding Lucas's arm, they were about to walk into the waiting limousine when Ava rushed forward, and with tears in her eyes, she called softly, "Babe."

Lucas' heart shattered, and he was about to pull his arms away from Amy's hold, but he couldn't because she held on tightly to it. "Find another man to call that name. He is mine now, and isn't it too early for you to act shameless and become his mistress?" Amy snapped at Ava, her eyes squinting in fury.

The crowd behind them gasped as all eyes turned to Ava, who cowered behind her parents, tears falling from her eyes.

Amy's lips spread into a victorious smile. She loved this game. She wouldn't give Ava the chance to take what's hers anymore.
