Chapter 1

My sister, Flora Leeman, and I went on a blind date at the same time. She chose Samuel Garrett, a soldier who defended the country, while I chose Logan Zigger, a farmer.

However, shortly after Flora got married, Samuel was killed in the line of duty. Meanwhile, Logan became a livestock tycoon and bought a car and a house.

Flora was widowed for two years and then got caught cheating. She was kicked out by her mother-in-law.

When I was giving birth, she came to visit. While I was not paying attention, she used a pair of scissors to kill me. Flora said viciously, "Why should an adopted daughter like you be living a better life than me?"

When I opened my eyes again, I was back to the time of the blind date. This time, Flora insisted on marrying Logan, so I knew she had been reborn as well.

I chuckled to myself. With her jumping into the Zigger family hellhole, I could marry into the Garrett family and enjoy a good life!

After returning from the matchmaker's house and entering the house, my sister, Flora Leeman, rushed to say, "Mom, I want to marry Logan Zigger, who's a farmer!"

My adopted mother, Elaine Lucas, was shocked when her face went pale, and she cried out at Flora. I was there, and Elaine couldn't say it outright, but from her squinting and frowning, I figured she wasn't keen on Flora choosing Logan.

"Mom, Sally Leeman went through so much and did a lot for our family all these years. Now, it's time to give back to Sally. Let her have the chance to marry into the Garrett family and live well as a soldier's wife. It's a way for the Leeman family to show gratitude to Sally."

"Flora, don't talk nonsense!" Elaine's hands were trembling as her lips were quivering. She was afraid that her own daughter would make the wrong choice and ruin her life.

Flora leaned close to Elaine and whispered for a while.

Elaine's suspicious gaze fell on me before returning to Flora. "Flora, marriage is a serious matter. You can't play around. You need to think carefully."

Flora hugged Elaine and pouted. "Mom, trust me!"

Elaine was silent for a while. Finally, she tightly held Flora's hand. "Fine, I'll trust you this time."

Elaine then looked at me. "Sally, the Garrett boy is a few years older than you. Your ages are more suitable, and the Garrett family is more well off than the Zigger family. You have suffered a lot in the Leeman family over the years. This time, you can enjoy the Garrett family's wealth! From now on, you and our family should part ways and go our separate ways."

I understood what Elaine meant; she was telling me that I would have no further connection with the Leeman family after marriage.

I sneered inwardly.

Elaine was probably afraid that I would return home as a widow and become a burden after Samuel Garrett's sacrifice. I did not need such a family.

The reform had just started. As long as I did not slack off, I could still make a living even without Samuel. I could not pick my partner, but I could aim to get the most out of the situation.

"Mom, I can marry Samuel, but I want a bicycle, a sewing machine, a watch, and 200 dollars for my dowry."

In my previous life, Elaine would not even give me a sewing machine when I married Logan. To make a living, I earned my first fortune by hand-sewing clothes for others. With that money, I helped my in-laws with farming and livestock, becoming a well-known, wealthy family in the area.

Hand-sewing was exhausting for my eyes and hands. Later, my hand joints became deformed, and my eyesight deteriorated.

Elaine's dowry for Flora consisted of three large items and several hundred dollars.

I knew that an adopted daughter could not compare to a biological daughter. Elaine wanted to sever ties with me in this life, so I would fight for what was best for myself.

Seeing Elaine hesitate, I added, "Mom, how about I marry Logan? Everyone knows being a soldier's wife has its risks; what if I end up a widow?"

Chapter 2

Flora was worried that I would take Logan away from her, so she quickly interceded on my behalf.

Finally, Elaine agreed.

Flora gave me a malicious smile. "Sally, I hope you and Samuel will have many children and live happily together until old age!"

I replied, "May your words come true! I hope you can become a millionaire soon and buy a car and a house!"

Flora must have been foolishly blind to reality, unable to see the truth.

The Garrett family had few members, consisting of only Samuel and his mother, Candice Fenton. The Garrett family was also an industrial household and did not need to farm. Candice was a primary school teacher, and Samuel had a fixed salary. In such a family, as long as you behaved properly, you would not go hungry even if you did not work.

The Zigger family had siblings and a meddling mother-in-law. Logan, who was not strong, could not provide for a family at all.

Instead of accepting the role of a soldier's spouse, Flora had to jump into the Zigger family's hellhole!

'Great. With Flora jumping into the fire pit for me in this life, I can enjoy a good life in the Garrett family!' I thought.

The wedding date was set.

Elaine consulted a fortune teller to determine the date. The fortune teller said it would be ideal for Flora and me to get married on the same day. Otherwise, male members of the family would meet a violent fate. Thus, Elaine arranged for us to get married two months later at the same time.

Elaine believed in fortune-telling the most. She even consulted a fortune teller before adopting me. She was infertile at the time, and the fortune teller said that if she adopted a girl, and treated her well, she would be able to conceive her own child.

I brought a boy and a girl into the Leeman family, but I was never treated well. I had to harvest hay, feed the pigs, farm on the mountain, wash clothes, and cook. Since the age of five or six, I worked my butt off for the Leeman family. My hands were all red, swollen, and festering with chilblains, but no one seemed to care.

I found it laughable. Elaine believed in fortune telling so much, how could she push her own daughter into a hell hole?

Great, the Leeman family's affairs were no longer my concern. I was going to marry into the Garrett family, serve my mother-in-law, and live a good life!

The night of my wedding was the second time I saw Samuel. He was tall and upright, with striking looks and a righteous aura.

The Garrett family had few members, which put me at ease.

My mother-in-law was gentle. Before going to bed that night, she pulled Samuel outside and secretly told him to be nicer to me, and I did not have to get up early the next day.

When Samuel came back into the room and saw me, his expression softened, and his eyes looked a little red.

I had no idea why he was so agitated. I observed him; he was quite handsome, but he was short-lived.

Looking at the young man before me, my heart ached. Soon, he would sacrifice himself, and this living person would be gone from the world.

I stepped forward, hugged his waist, and patted his back.

Samuel hugged me tightly back. His burning body temperature gave me a moment of inspiration. Samuel would sacrifice later, but he was right in front of me now.

I made up my mind to stick around with the Garrett family for good. Having Samuel's child would be a blessing. It would legitimize my position in the Garrett family and make things smoother with my mother-in-law.

Samuel sacrificed himself, but he left a child behind. He would become a hero with a descendant. I could at least continue the Garrett family's bloodline.

With this in mind, my heart fluttered.

Samuel's heroicness was incredibly attractive, making me want to get closer, but the thought of having a child with a stranger was unbearable.

He only had five days of leave. If I could not conceive in those few days, it would be too late.

I could not contain my thoughts and blurted out, "Samuel, should we have a child?"

Chapter 3

Samuel's face turned red.

'He was also married in his previous life. Why would he be shy about having a child? Isn't it normal for a married couple to have babies?'

He held me tighter. "Don't worry about having children for now. We'll talk about it when I come back to visit next time."

He pushed me onto the stool, opened my bridal braid, and brushed my hair for me. His movements were both gentle and affectionate.

As I thought that he had also treated Flora like this in his previous life, the jealousy welling up inside me burst. I snatched the hairbrush from his hand and threw it away. I jumped up and wrapped my arms around his neck, while my legs wrapped around his waist.

"Samuel, I want a baby!" I demanded domineeringly and moved my mouth toward him.

He was stunned for a moment before quickly turning his head.

I kissed his earlobe.

This time, not only did his face go red, but his ears did too.

I nibbled his earlobe, and his chest beat rapidly, making me extremely nervous. I was no match for him. He did not want me to succeed, so he used one hand to subdue me.

That night, Samuel had my hands locked as we slept through the night.

After breakfast the next day, I went with Samuel to the town. I planned to buy some wire mesh to make a drying rack and start my side business to earn money.

Autumn had arrived, and I wanted to pick some wild mushrooms to dry. They were good for health and could fetch a good price.

We ran into Flora and Logan in town.

Upon seeing me, Flora proudly flaunted the box of cake in her hand. "Sally, you've never had August Bakes cakes before, have you? My Logan knows I love them, so he brought me here to buy it!"

I linked arms with Samuel, tilting my chin up and smiling sweetly. "August Bakes' cakes are too sweet; eating too much will make you gain weight. My Samuel said Ducky Bakery's are soft and melt-in-your-mouth, so he brought me here to buy some."

My silly little sister had been spoiled since childhood; she was lazy and gluttonous. The Zigger family was large, with complex interpersonal relationships. Her pampered princess behavior might be acceptable now and then, but her mother-in-law would definitely scold her in the long run.

Flora's disdainful gaze fell on Samuel. As if remembering something, she suddenly leaned closer and whispered mockingly, "Did Samuel touch you last night? He probably didn't bother touching you, right?"

As she spoke, she pulled open her collar, showing me the hickies on her neck. "Look, we're a loving couple. That's what a real couple is. You're living just like a widow!"

I grabbed Samuel and stood on tiptoe to give him a quick kiss on the neck. "A loving couple isn't about what they display to outsiders. Love is enough. Sam, don't you agree?"

Samuel hugged me tighter and kissed the top of my head. "My wife is always right!"

His gaze fell coldly on Flora, as if she were a stinkbug. "Flora, you're just wasting your time gossiping here. Why don't you go home and help your mother chop some more firewood? Sally's married; your family lost a good laborer."

"My dad's a supply and marketing cooperative official; he earns more than you…"

I interrupted her, "I hope your dad stays in power. Otherwise, your whole family will starve!"

Flora pointed at me, trembling with anger. "Sally, you shameless brat!"

She slammed the cake on the ground and stormed off.

The yellow box holding the cake ripped. Logan picked it up with a pained look, tucked it into his coat, and ran after Flora.

Back on the bus after buying the wire mesh, I remained silent for a long time, wondering, 'Flora was certain Samuel hadn't touched me. How did she know? Did Samuel not touch her in their past life either?'
