Chapter 1

On my wedding day, Yuna Shaw, the girl my parents had sponsored blocked the door to my room, just as lines of text began scrolling across my vision.

[Oh my god, is the female lead really going to marry that golden heir? He’s a psychopath. He likes cutting people into pieces!]

[The female lead’s such an idiot. The match Yuna arranged for her is the smarter choice.]

[Switching marriages with Yuna is the only way to survive!]

In my previous life, after reading those messages, I begged to call off the engagement.

Yuna insisted on repaying my family’s kindness by marrying in my place.

I ended up marrying the construction foreman she had chosen.

After the wedding, my mother-in-law made my life miserable, and my husband abused me.

I ran back to my parents for help, only to be slapped repeatedly by Yuna when she returned home.

“Still think you’re some rich young lady? Running home the moment things get hard? Someone needs to knock that out of you!”

Even my once-loving parents turned cold and threw me out.

“You walked out that door as someone else’s wife. What happens to you now is none of our concern.”

In the end, I was tortured to death by my husband. Only after I died did I realize it had all been Yuna’s scheme.

Now she stood in front of me again, her eyes sharp with calculation.

I shoved her aside.

“You think you’re worthy of marrying in my place?”

The noise downstairs was loud and bustling.

The Freeman family’s arrival to pick up the bride caused such a stir it was impossible to ignore.

Yuna Shaw’s eyes were filled with jealousy.

“Jade, I heard your fiancé likes killing people. With your fragile build, you wouldn’t even survive a single punch from him. How can you survive after you marry into that family?”

In my previous life, ever since the engagement was announced, she had constantly spoken ill of Berkeley Freeman in front of me.

I thought she was just worried about me.

Only after I died did I realize that she had been trying to take the position of Mrs. Freeman all along.

I replied coldly, “And you believe rumors you’ve only overheard? The Freeman family isn’t someone you can provoke. My parents kindly supported your education and even allowed you to marry from our home. Are you trying to bring trouble upon us?”

Startled by my stern expression, Yuna’s face flickered with annoyance.

The comments in my vision began scrolling again.

[Only Yuna truly cares about her, why won’t the female lead believe her?]

[The female lead is so stupid—marrying the golden heir is a death sentence! Hurry and switch marriages with Yuna!]

Yuna’s eyes turned red as she stepped in front of me.

“Jade, I’m grateful for Mr. Cooper and Mrs. Cooper’s help. I treat you like my own sister. How could I ever harm you?

“Marriage can change your life. I just can’t stand by and watch you walk into disaster.”

I adjusted my veil and glanced at her coldly.

“The Freeman family is the wealthiest in the city. How would marrying into the family be walking into disaster?

“I remember you’re getting married today too, aren’t you? Why are you still here? Are you planning to take my place at the wedding or become a mistress?”

As soon as I spoke, the servants waiting outside turned their gaze toward Yuna.

Her face turned pale and she fell completely silent.

I turned and instructed, “Why are you still standing there? Take her next door to change into her wedding dress. Don’t delay the ceremony.”

Yuna stared at me, her eyes full of resentment, but she could only be surrounded by the servants and led away.

In an instant, the comments in front of me went wild, turning blood red.

[The golden heir loves Yuna. If the female lead marries him, he’ll resent her!]

[He’ll even take it out on her parents and get them killed. The female lead is so foolish, marrying him will destroy her entire family!]

[If she doesn’t switch marriages now, everything is over!]

I let out a silent scoff and turned to leave.

I thought this time I would be able to marry without trouble.

But the moment I went downstairs, I heard my parents on the phone with the Freeman family, discussing switching the bride.

“Jade is too unruly. I’m afraid she can’t take on the role of Mrs. Freeman. Why don’t we replace her?

“The girl we’ve been sponsoring, Yuna Shaw, is a good choice. If you agree, we’ll make her our foster daughter and have her marry Mr. Freeman!”

I couldn’t understand what was happening and immediately shouted, “Wait!”

“Dad, Mom, the engagement with the Freeman family was arranged by Grandpa before he passed. How can you just change it?”

When they saw me, they hung up the phone, but the first thing they did was order the servants to restrain me.

“Take her away. Once Yuna is married, she can marry the man Yuna has chosen for her.”

I shook my head desperately. “I won’t!”

Before I could finish, Yuna walked over in a wedding dress identical to mine.

“Jade, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper are doing this for your own good. I’ll take your place in this marriage.”

Meeting her smug gaze, I suddenly understood.

She had fabricated those comments and shown them to my parents too!

Chapter 2

No wonder, in my previous life, when I went back home begging for help, my parents threw me out.

I turned to tell them the truth, only to realize no sound would come out of my mouth.

The comments started scrolling again.

[Hurry and switch marriages. A construction foreman is way better than the golden heir. He’ll treat the female lead wholeheartedly, she’ll definitely be happy!]

[Hehe, her parents have already agreed to the switch. What is she still resisting for?]

Damn it!

I would never switch marriages!

I turned and ran, but the strong servants grabbed me in an instant.

No matter how hard I struggled, I could only watch as I was dragged away.

Just as despair closed in, a cough suddenly sounded from outside the door.

“Who dares bully the Freeman family’s bride?”

An elderly man, dressed like a butler, walked in and swept his gaze over my parents.

“Mr. Freeman’s old illness has flared up, so he’s unable to come in person. I’ve been sent to escort Miss Cooper.

“Mr. Cooper, are you trying to stop Miss Cooper from leaving for her wedding?”

My father’s expression changed instantly, and he waved his hands at once.

“It’s all a misunderstanding. Our daughter’s a bit unruly, so we were just disciplining her.

“Why are you still standing there? Let her go.”

At his words, the servants released their grip on me.

In front of the butler, I looked straight at my parents.

“Yuna’s already in her wedding dress. You should let her go ahead with her wedding. Don’t keep people waiting.”

Right now, the priority was to get Yuna out of here and stop her from influencing them further.

But my parents hesitated, unable to speak.

Instead, Yuna agreed immediately.

Before leaving, she smiled in a way that was impossible to read and came over to help me into the car.

“Jade, once you’re married, take good care of yourself.”

She turned and headed next door, climbing into the construction foreman’s wedding car.

I ignored her and shut the car door.

The ride was calm at first, but suddenly my vision blurred, my eyelids growing heavy.

Something felt wrong.

The comments began flooding in again.

[Just go to sleep. When you wake up, you’ll be spending your wedding night with the construction foreman.]

[Yuna is so kind. She slipped the female lead a sedative while helping her into the car. This time the switch will definitely succeed!]

My heart jolted. I dug my nails into my flesh, trying to stay awake.

But my mind grew hazy, and I was on the verge of losing consciousness.

In that critical moment, I pulled out the dagger I had secretly brought with me and drove it hard into my thigh.

A surge of pain shot through me, forcing the drowsiness away.

I looked out the window.

The road was becoming more and more remote. This was definitely not the way to the wedding.

I immediately shouted for the driver to stop.

“Stop the car! I’m the bride of the Freeman family! Where are you taking me?”

The driver let out a mocking laugh.

“What kind of fantasy are you living in? This is the road to Randy Holt’s place!”

How could that be? Had Yuna switched cars with me?

But I clearly remembered that the wedding car had been arranged by the Freeman family.

There was no time to think. I pulled off my diamond ring and handed it to the driver.

“Turn the car around. Take me to the biggest hotel in the city.”

I absolutely could not go to the construction foreman’s house!

I didn’t expect the driver to take the ring, only to bring the car to a stop.

He turned around, his gaze crawling over me.

“Soft skin like yours… must feel pretty good to touch.”

With that, he lunged into the back seat, tearing at my wedding dress.

I raised my hands to resist, only to be struck across the face so hard my vision went white.

He spat in my face.

“Miss Shaw made it clear that if you tried to turn back, you’d be mine to do whatever I pleased. So, drop the act. Who do you think you are?”

The comments surged again.

[She brought this on herself. If she’d just married the foreman obediently, she wouldn’t end up like this.]

[The foreman will be here soon. Is she about to be handled by two men at once? Tsk, tsk.]

No.

If Randy got his hands on me, everything would be over.

In desperation, I pulled out the dagger again and drove it deep into the driver’s arm.

He screamed in pain, thrashing, and I seized the moment to shove the door open and run.

But the moment I got out, Randy’s car pulled up.

The second he saw me, he grabbed my hair and kicked me to the ground.

“You bitch. I was wondering what took you so long. You’ve already been sold to me, and you still think you can run?

“Do you still think you’re some rich little heiress? If you don’t satisfy me tonight, I’ll beat you to death!”

Clutching my aching stomach, I couldn’t move.

Memories from my previous life surged back—of being beaten by him, stripped, and thrown onto the streets to die.

Was I really going to end up the same way again—dying a miserable death?

The comments kept flashing.

[Just accept it. This is your fate.]

[She dared to run from the marriage. If the foreman beats her to death, she deserves it!]

Chapter 3

A surge of fury burst through my chest. I didn’t know where the strength came from, but I lunged forward and bit down hard on Randy’s hand.

He yelped and staggered back.

I seized the moment, raised the dagger, and drove it into his thigh several times.

Then I snatched his car keys and sped straight toward the wedding venue.

I refused to lose. This was not my fate!

In the rearview mirror, Randy’s limping figure gradually disappeared.

I drove like a madwoman, finally making it to the hotel.

Yuna had just stepped out of her car, her face glowing with joy.

Meanwhile, I was disheveled, dirt-streaked, and stained with blood.

The moment she saw me, her expression turned as if she had seen a ghost.

I rushed forward and stopped the Freeman family’s relatives who had come to welcome the bride.

“She’s a fake! I’m the real bride—Jade Cooper!”

They all looked at me in confusion.

I was born premature and in poor health. When the Freeman family came to visit, I had been overseas recovering, so none of them had ever met me.

Seeing their hesitation, panic set in.

Before I could speak again, Yuna’s eyes flickered, and tears fell instantly.

“Yuna, my parents sponsored your education. I pitied you and let you stay in my home. Why would you repay kindness with betrayal and try to take my marriage?”

As she spoke, she raised her hand to reveal the diamond ring.

“This wedding ring was personally designed by Mr. Freeman, using a one-of-a-kind diamond. If you’re going to pretend to be me, at least do your homework.”

“That’s impossible!”

I instinctively reached for my hand, only to remember I gave the ring to the driver.

But how did Yuna have the exact same ring as mine?

“I recognize that ring—so the one in the torn wedding dress must be the fake!”

“Unbelievable. Miss Cooper was kind enough to support her, and she repays it by trying to steal her husband. What a disgrace!”

The relatives quickly took Yuna’s side, their gazes turning scornful as they looked at me.

The comments were even more gleeful.

[Go on, admit it—you just want to steal Yuna’s husband!]

[Just give up. Marrying the foreman is great. Yuna is the one who should be with the golden heir.]

Yuna curled her lips into a smile and waved her hand, giving orders.

“Take her back to get married. Don’t keep Mr. Holt waiting.”

Then she said smugly, “I picked this match carefully for you. You should enjoy it.”

The security guards rushed forward, grabbing hold of me and shoving me toward the car.

I screamed for help until my voice went hoarse.

But no one paid me any attention. They were all too busy currying favor with Yuna.

Just as despair set in, the Freeman family’s butler finally arrived.

He stared at me in shock.

“Let her go at once!”

The grip on me vanished instantly, and the butler helped me to my feet.

“You’re finally here. Yuna framed me. Please take me to Mr. Freeman!”

With just one word from him, my identity could be proven!

But the butler’s expression turned strange.

“At a time like this, you’re still thinking about marrying Mr. Freeman?”

I froze, unable to understand what he meant.

Before I could react, my parents rushed over from the car behind.

Relief surged through me, only for my mother’s slap to land across my face without hesitation.

“Yuna Shaw, we paid for your education and even fostered you. How could you let jealousy drive you to steal Jade’s marriage?!”

I stared at her in disbelief.

“Mom, have you mistaken me for someone else? I’m your daughter, Jade!”

Facing the crowd, she pulled out a psychiatric diagnosis report with my name printed on it.

“We indulged her delusions because of her condition, letting her claim to be our daughter. But now that she’s hurt Jade, we can’t tolerate it any longer!”

It felt like I had fallen into an icy abyss.

Yuna looped her arm around my mother’s, her lips curling with triumph.

“Yuna, you must be having an episode again. The Cooper family’s heiress is clearly me. I’m the future Mrs. Freeman. As for you, just be good and marry Mr. Holt.”

At her signal, the bodyguards covered my mouth and dragged me toward the car.

Was it possible that even with a second chance, I still couldn’t change my fate?

The comments flew past, as if mocking me.

[See? Even your parents refuse to acknowledge you. This is what happens when you don’t switch marriages with Yuna!]

[Stop struggling. Marrying the foreman and serving his whole family is your fate!]

My heart felt like it was being carved apart, tears slipping down soundlessly.

Then, in the next moment, an angry shout rang out.

“Who dares lay a hand on my bride?”
