I tried to force a smile and pretended to be relaxed. "Let's just say we've been dating for three years and broke up because it didn't work out. I'm quite happy being with you even though I've given you everything. If I accept this money, everything that happened before will become worthless. Besides, you know I don't need that much money."

Nathan said hoarsely, "You can buy a bigger house and live with your future husband. If you don't accept the money, I always feel like I owe you something."

"I see." I tilted my head back, put the check in my bag, and smiled, "Well, now we don't owe each other anything."

I accepted the money, but he didn't seem relieved.

I stood up with my bag and tried to leave a brilliant smile in his memory. "I'm leaving, Nathan. No, wait." I emphasized each word. "Nathan Garcia, I wish you a happy marriage. You get to be happy. Goodbye."

Nathan looked at me with gloomy eyes and moved his lips, but in the end, he didn't say anything.

I considerately asked him, "Is there anything else you want to say to me?"

He lowered his head, his bangs blocking his view. His lips parted as he said, "You too, be happy."

I smiled and said, "I will."
