Vicky Is Pregnant
"You're going to be a father!"
I stared at the pregnancy test in bewilderment.
"Is… Is this real?"
Vicky chuckled at my reaction and wrapped her arms around my neck as she asked if I was happy or not.
When I realized my reaction was a bit off, I quickly explained to her that I was just overwhelmed by the surprise. To smooth things over, I asked what gift she wanted.
Vicky smiled and said meaningfully, "I don't need anything. All I want is for you to love me and our child forever." Then, she playfully poked my lower region, which reacted immediately.
However, I couldn't do anything since Vicky was pregnant. Thus, I tapped her nose and headed to the bathroom for a cold shower. When I came out, Vicky was scrolling on her phone while muttering about all the precautions we needed to start taking.
I figured we should focus on the basics first, so I suggested we visit the hospital to check how far along she was and to make sure the baby was healthy.
Vicky agreed after hearing my words. She curled up against me and joked about how pregnancy was already making her feel scatterbrained.
"It's a good thing our baby has such a smart dad," she said.
The next morning, we went to the hospital. After a blood test, the doctor confirmed she was four weeks pregnant. Vicky was overjoyed and bombarded the doctor with questions about pregnancy while I stood beside them in silence.
When we left the hospital, her mood shifted drastically.
"Shawn, do you not want this baby?"
I was shocked by her words and quickly denied it.
"How could I not want our baby after all these years of waiting?"
"Then, why didn't you seem to care just now?"
When I heard her words, I realized she was upset about my earlier indifference. Thus, I hurriedly explained myself and offered all kinds of reassurance until she finally brightened up.
On our way to the car, Vicky returned to her playful self as she insisted on sitting on my lap instead of the passenger seat. As she teased me, she looked satisfied as she watched me squirm under her touch.
I stared at her and couldn't help but say, "Do you think I won't do anything to you right now?"
Vicky's eyes widened, and she reminded me, "The doctor said we can't… At least not right now…"
Although she said so, her eyes twinkled mischievously. However, I knew better than to let my desire get a hold of me. I knew that I had to wait until the baby was a few months older.
And frankly, I didn't want to.
After I dropped her off at home, I made up an excuse about needing to check in on some urgent work. Vicky seemed a bit annoyed but didn't ask too many questions since she knew how unpredictable construction projects could be.
Then, instead of going to work, I drove straight to a private clinic owned by my childhood friend, Jack Zenith.
When Jack saw me, he raised an eyebrow and whistled.
However, I wasn't in the mood for jokes and went straight to the point. "Jack, you've got to help me. Can you check if I still can fertilize someone?"
Hearing my words, Jack was dumbfounded.
"I thought you were dead set on not having kids? Besides, you'd need to do a proper exam after surgery to find out."
Although it was embarrassing to tell him the truth, I couldn't hold back anymore, at least not in front of my best friend.
"Vicky is pregnant, and I doubt that child is mine."
Jack looked even more shocked as his mouth went agape.
Then, I followed him into the examination room.
After we ran some tests, the results were clear. I had no sperm at all.
As expected, that child wasn't mine.
Whose Child Is it?
When Jack saw the results, he was in disbelief. Although he tried to comfort me, he knew that any attempt would have been useless.
I had always been a staunch advocate of the DINK lifestyle. Even now, I couldn't imagine life with children. However, I knew how much Vicky wanted a child. Since I loved her dearly, I couldn't bring myself to tell her the fact that I had undergone a vasectomy long before I met her. Due to this, she grew anxious and even prepared to have a medical checkup.
I know it was selfish of me to do so, but I just couldn't accept the fact that she had been cheating on me behind my back. After all these years together, I still didn't want to believe that Vicky would betray me and even had a glimmer of hope as to what if I was the father.
Jack hesitated for a moment before suggesting I wait until the child had grown bigger before doing a paternity test. Since it would have to take about eight weeks, that meant I wouldn't be able to go abroad for work.
When I got home, Vicky was sulking on the couch with pouty lips, clearly upset. Since she didn't rush to greet me like she normally did, I knew she was throwing a tantrum.
Usually, I would have taken her to the bedroom and made up for her in bed. However, I couldn't bring myself to do it now as I couldn't shake off the thought that the child might not be mine.
Still, I forced myself to suppress the discomfort I had as I reminded myself I couldn't expose myself until I had concrete proof.
"What's wrong, darling?"
"Hmph! You've been out so long and didn't reply to my messages. You left me here all alone." As she spoke, she broke down into tears.
Maybe it was due to her pregnancy, as I noticed her tears were genuine instead of the playful ones she used to do whenever she wanted things her way.
So, I sat beside her and pulled her into my arms. Although I felt disgusted, I kissed her on her lips and neck as I comforted her.
Soon, Vicky melted into my touch and looked at me flirtatiously. She was always needy and was incredibly open when it came to intimacy.
Then, she guided my hand down her body. As expected, she wasn't wearing anything underneath.
"You are pregnant. We can't," I said and pulled away before things went further.
Then, I fled to the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face, hoping it would douse the flames inside me.
I couldn't hold back my emotions anymore, but I knew it wasn't time just yet.
When I returned to work on Monday, I told my boss that my wife had just gotten pregnant and that I wouldn't be able to go abroad for the time being. Thankfully, he was understanding and supportive, which eased my mind.
For the next month, I played the role of the perfect husband and soon-to-be father as I cared for her like I usually do. However, I had reduced my physical contact with her. On the other hand, Vicky continued to try to seduce me daily, but I remained unmoved.
At one point, she became so frustrated that she grabbed my manhood and wanted to test how long I could resist. I joked that I was holding back because of her and the baby, but I felt nothing deep inside.
Before I could learn the truth, I couldn't stand the thought of laying my hands on her.
As soon as she was eight weeks pregnant, I told her I was going to take her to Jack's clinic for a more advanced checkup, claiming the equipment was better there.
When Vicky heard Jack's name, her expression faltered for a moment before it disappeared quickly while she agreed without hesitation.
Still, I noticed her strange reaction.
When we arrived at the clinic, Jack was in a meeting, so we were greeted by his assistant, Benson Wayne. He was also someone we were familiar with.
As we climbed the stairs, Vicky seemed to be in a daze. She nearly tripped due to her inattention.
In that split second, Benson reacted quickly and caught her. I noticed his hand grazed across her upper body, and Vicky shuddered visibly at the touch.
The scene felt off, but Benson quickly let go, and Vicky clung to my arm as if for reassurance. I instinctively turned to glance at Benson, who had already turned his face away. However, I still saw the strange smirk lingering at the corner of his mouth.
Since the paternity test was being done without Vicky's knowing, things went smoothly since she cared very much about the baby. After all, I told her it was all for the child's well-being.
The rest of the tests came back normal. The baby was healthy, but the paternity test results wouldn't be out until the next day.
After the checkup, I told Vicky to rest in the waiting area while I went to look for Jack. At that moment, Benson offered to keep an eye on her, but something about him made me uneasy. I didn't trust him since I could tell that he had ill intentions toward Vicky.
Still, I feigned nonchalance and left, only to hide elsewhere and watch them.
Sure enough, something was going on between them.
