Chapter 1

Pushing the door open.

There was Loren, locked in an intimate embrace with a woman on our wedding bed.

The woman was wearing my most cherished nightgown, laughing brazenly.

"Darling, you're so amazing. Cupid's surgery was all thanks to you," the woman cooed. Her hand wind down to his sensitive spot.

"For you, I'd do anything. Luckily, Rosy's heart was a match. "

I staggered backward, almost losing my balance.

Forcibly suppressing the overwhelming nausea and grief welling up inside me, I spun around and rushed out of the door.

Unaware, I found myself in a downpour.

How could I have been so blind? How did I let my daughter suffer? Stumbling home, broken, I met Loren's panicked glance.

"Honey, you're soaked. Where've you been?"

I glared, silent.

"By the way, I have something to tell you. Remember Aya, my college classmate? She's coming back with a kid. She has no family. Maybe let her stay a few days?" he probed, gauging my reaction.

I caught Aya's faint scent on him.

I knew his game, but I'd play along.

"I will prepare a welcoming feast." I said faintly.

A smile spread across his face.

"Thanks, honey. You're so kind. I'm truly blessed to have you as my wife,"

I ignored him and marched straight to the room.

In the corner, the photo album lay quietly, and my eyes were irresistibly drawn to it.

I gently flipped it open, and a picture came into view.

That day, Rosy, like many young werewolves in the Moonlit Pack, bounded off to the forest's edge with her pack - mates to play.

The wind, which was normally a gentle friend, suddenly shifted erratically.

The distant forest fire, which had seemed under control, now raged towards them with terrifying speed.

The young werewolves panicked and scattered in all directions. Rosy, rushed back into the inferno to find a lost friend.

By the time the pack's search - and - rescue team, their fur singed and eyes wild with worry, found her, she was severely burned.

On the surgery day, desperate to save Rosy, I let them drain my blood.

Soon, darkness claimed me and I passed out.

When I awoke, I felt the cold needle pierce my skin again.

They bled me not once, not twice, but five times.

With each draw, my wolf grew weaker, the room spinning.

Yet, my heart held firm: if Rosy lived, every drop was worth it.

Due to severely burnt, Loren told me that Rosy needs to implant an artificial heart.

From then on, Rosy was the laughingstock of the pack cubs.

One day Nook, that little werewolf cub, stumbled upon Rosy's secret.

Nook's eyes bulged.

"Hey, everyone!" he shrieked.

"Listen to this! Her heart's making a freaky noise, like a machine! She's a total freak!"

The other young werewolves swarmed around.

"Gross," one of them spat.

"We ain't playing with her no more."

Rosy's face crumpled, and she started to cry.

Nook, seeing he had an audience, got bolder.

He grabbed a pencil. "You monster!" he yelled, jabbing it at Rosy's chest. "A machine heart don't feel pain. You're a demon!"

Rosy's eyes filled with hurt, but she held back her sobs.

"Why are you doing this?" she managed to choke out.

"I never did anything to you."

Nook just laughed and jabbed her again. " 'Cause you're not like us. You're a mistake."

Later, I woke up in the hospital bed, my head foggy.

Rosy stood there, her eyes red and puffy. "Mom, what's wrong? Why are kids laughing at me and all these tubes in you?" she cried.

Loren was there too, holding my hand. "Honey, Daddy will punish those who bullies you, don't worry Selina, everything will be fine."

Tears fell on the photo I held, making it wet.

"Rosy. We're going to a new place. "

"Great Mommy, are we going on a family tour?"

"No, just we two."

Chapter 2

Rosy nodded, as if understanding something.

Suddenly, she clutched her chest.

Her small face turned deathly pale in an instant.

"Mom, my heart hurts so much..."

I fumbled to pull out my phone, dialing Loren's number over and over again.

But all I heard from the receiver was the monotonous, cold tone: "The number you have dialed is not being answered at the moment."

I hoisted Rosy onto my back and bolted into the downpour, sprinting towards the hospital with all my might.

In the hospital corridor, I gasped for breath.

Rosy whimpered weakly in my arms.

Just then, around the corner, I caught sight of that familiar figure-Loren was accompanying Aya, his face filled with concern as they led Cupid for a medical check - up.

"Loren!"

At the sound of his name, Loren's body went rigid.

He slowly turned his head.

"Selina. Aya said Cupid hasn't been feeling well lately, so I accompanied them for a check - up. It was just a coincidence, I ..."

Aya wore a seemingly gentle smile on her face.

Then, when no one was looking, she suddenly dug her nails into Cupid's arm beside her with all her might.

Cupid yelped in pain and burst into loud wails.

Instantly, Loren tensed up.

He dropped to his knees in a flash. "Sweetheart, what's wrong? Where does it hurt?" he cooed.

I gripped Rosy's hand firmly.

At that very moment, as if a sudden afterthought had struck him, Loren finally lifted his head and, as if seeing us for the first time, inquired, "Selina, what on earth has happened to Rosy? Why are you both at the hospital?"

I managed to keep my voice level and nonchalant. "It's just a common cold. No big deal. But looking at Cupid, he seems to be in such agony. You should really rush him to see a doctor right away. His condition takes precedence."

Rosy, cowering behind me, her eyes a pool of dejection and bewilderment, stole furtive glances at Loren.

Just yesterday, Loren had erupted into a towering rage when someone dared to mock Rosy's artificial heart. But now, it was as if Aya and Cupid were the only ones who existed in his world, leaving Rosy and me in the shadows.

Loren's eyes flickered with a momentary hesitation , his lips parting as if on the verge of uttering something.

However, Aya let out a coquettish whine.

"Loren, hurry up and take Cupid to get checked. I'm just heartbroken seeing him like this."

Loren wavered for an instant, his gaze darting between me and Rosy.

In the end, he heaved a barely perceptible sigh and turned around.

With utmost care, he scooped up Cupid in his arms and hastened towards the consultation room.

Tightening my grip on Rosy's hand, I murmured softly, "Come on, my love. Let's go."

The doctor's face was solemn as he held the examination report tightly. "Miss, I'm afraid we have a serious situation here,".

"Rosy's body is severely rejecting the artificial heart."

I felt a lump form in my throat.

"How bad is it?" I managed to ask.

The doctor's eyes met mine, filled with concern.

"Very bad. We need to find a compatible artificial heart donor and perform a replacement as soon as possible. We only have one week."

"A week?"

" How are we supposed to find a donor in such a short time?"

The doctor sighed. "I understand this is difficult news, but it's crucial we act quickly. We'll do everything we can on our end, but you should also start reaching out to potential donors. Time is of the essence."

Chapter 3

In an instant, my world spun wildly.

I wobbled, on the verge of collapsing to the ground.

"How could this be... How could the rejection happen suddenly..."

At this moment, Loren was still completely preoccupied with Cupid's matter, utterly unaware of Rosy's dire situation.

Back home, I locked myself in the room.

I frantically searched for information about artificial hearts online.

My fingers trembled as I dialed the numbers of major hospitals, my voice pleading as I asked if there were any compatible hearts available for transplantation.

However, time and time again, disappointment echoed from the other end of the line.

Each time I hung up the phone, my heart felt as if it were being struck hard by a sledgehammer.

Late at night ,I sat at the desk, which was littered with piles of documents. My eyes, bloodshot and weary, were fixed intently on the information about artificial heart donors on the computer screen.

My fingers flew across the keyboard, a desperate attempt to pluck a glimmer of hope from the vast expanse of the internet and secure a chance at life for Rosy.

Just then, the screen of my phone suddenly lit up, and the shrill notification sound shattered the deathly silence in the room.

It was Aya who had updated her Monuments.

What greeted my eyes was a scene of bustling activity at an amusement park. Aya was nestled tightly in Loren's arms. And Cupid, standing nearby, stared straight into the camera with his overly bright eyes. The family looked so harmonious and joyous.

My breath quickened, and before I could recover from this intense stabbing pain, Rosy, who had been sitting on the sofa watching cartoons, seemed to sense something amiss.

She walked over with the tablet in hand.

Her small hand, almost involuntarily, zoomed in on the photo, and she stared intently, over and over again.

"Mama, is Daddy going to be someone else's daddy?"

Forcing back the tears, I quickly flipped the tablet face - down and tried my best to make my voice sound gentle.

"Rosy. Mommy will accompany you back to your room to sleep."

Loren didn't come back all night.

As soon as the sky began to lighten with the first rays of dawn, I got up early.

I gently woke Rosy, trying not to make a sound, and started to prepare for our departure.

Rosy, still sleepy - eyed, was sensible enough not to ask too many questions and silently cooperated with me in packing our things.

Then, there was a noise at the door, and I see Loren standing outside with Aya and Cupid.

Loren was carrying several large boxes in his hands, all Aya and Cupid's belongings.

He was slightly taken aback when he saw our suitcases.

"Selina, where are you two going?"

"Rosy hasn't been in a good mood lately. I'm planning to take her on a little trip in a couple of days to cheer her up."

Aya lifted her chin.

"Hmph, going on a trip? Could it be that you know you can't keep your man and are trying to slink away in shame?" she sneered.

I clenched Rosy's hand tightly. I simply ignored her.

Loren immediately rushed to lead the two of them upstairs with an eagerness.

Ten minutes later, a shrill cry of a child suddenly pierced the air from upstairs.

I dashed barefoot up the stairs, straight into Rosy's room.

The sight that met my eyes set my blood boiling.
