Chapter 2

Julian Carlisle's gaze lingered for a moment on her torn, soaked dress, the mud streaking her legs, and the unnatural angle of her twisted ankle.

His expression remained a blank mask of indifference. Rain dripped from his impeccably tailored suit as he pushed open the heavy car door and stepped out, unfolding his intimidatingly tall frame. He moved with an unsettling stillness, like a predator in its natural habitat.

The sheer force of his presence pressed down on Chloe like a physical weight, making it hard to breathe.

"Julian?" Ethan spat, his voice a mixture of shock and fury. He clutched his bleeding head, and the sight of his cousin did nothing to quell his rage. "What the fuck are you doing here? Give me back my woman."

A low, humorless sound came from Julian's lips. It wasn't a laugh; it was the audible crackle of contempt. He ignored Ethan completely. Instead, he reached out, his cold, unyielding fingers clamping around Chloe's chin, forcing her to look up at him. His touch was neither gentle nor reassuring. It was an assessment, an appraisal of an object rather than a person.

His cold, black eyes met hers. Then he spoke, his voice a low rumble that cut through the rain, aimed at his cousin.

"She dirtied my car," he said, his thumb brushing a smear of mud from her face. "Now, she's my cleaning fee."

The absurdity of the statement stunned both Chloe and Ethan into silence.

Before Ethan could process the insult, Julian moved. He scooped Chloe into his arms as if she weighed nothing. The sudden motion sent a fresh bolt of agony through her ankle, and she let out a small gasp. He ignored it, carrying her to the Maybach and depositing her onto the plush leather of the back seat with casual indifference.

He slid in beside her, and the scent of expensive cologne and wet wool filled the enclosed space. He looked at his driver, a composed man in a gray suit named Frank Miller.

"Clean it up," Julian commanded.

Frank nodded, his eyes meeting Julian's in the rearview mirror. The car lurched forward. But instead of driving away, it veered sharply, its reinforced bumper slamming into the side of the black SUV Marco had parked nearby. The crunch of metal was deafening, followed by the blare of the SUV's alarm. The vehicle was now a crumpled wreck, effectively blocking Ethan and his bodyguard.

As the Maybach pulled smoothly away from the curb, Chloe watched in the side mirror as Ethan cursed in the rain, his face twisted with impotent rage.

Inside the car, silence. The world beyond the windows was a blur of wet neon. Chloe shivered, a reaction to the cold, the lingering effects of the drug, and the terrifying realization of her new reality. The man who had saved her was far more dangerous than the one she'd fled. His violence was casual, efficient, and chilling.

She pressed herself against the door, trying to put as much distance between them as possible. Her gaze fell to his hands resting on his knees. A thin line of fresh blood oozed from a cut on his knuckle, staining the white cuff of his shirt. He had clearly not had a peaceful evening.

He noticed her stare. His eyes flicked down to his own hand, then back to her face.

"What's your name?" His voice was low, resonant, devoid of warmth. It was the voice of a man accustomed to giving orders and being obeyed without question.

It felt like a snake coiling around her heart.

"Chloe," she managed, her voice hoarse. "Chloe Collins." She offered nothing else. No surname, no background. Information was a weapon, and she had none to waste.

Her mind, finally clear of the drug's haze, was racing. This man, Julian, was her only shield against Ethan. He was a monster, but for now, he was *her* monster. She had to make herself valuable enough for him to keep. And right now, she had only one thing left to bargain with.

She made a decision. A desperate, dangerous one. She would use what Rick had tried to sell to secure her own safety.

Chapter 3

The last remnants of the drug surged through her body, a suffocating wave of heat that prickled her skin and caught her breath in her throat. Time was running out. She had to act before she lost the last shred of her sanity.

Slowly and deliberately, Chloe shifted across the leather seat, closing the small distance between them. The air grew thick, saturated with the scent of his cologne and the clean, crisp smell of money. It made her dizzy.

Her hand, trembling slightly, came to rest on his knee.

Julian's entire body went rigid. A muscle in his jaw ticked, but he didn't push her away. His gaze dropped to her hand, his eyes asking a silent, icy question.

"Do you know what you're doing?" he asked, his voice dangerously soft.

Chloe looked up, letting him see the drug-induced haze in her eyes. Her voice was a hoarse whisper. "I... need help." It was the truth, a request with a double meaning—for physical release and for his protection.

One corner of his mouth lifted in that cold, contemptuous sneer. He saw right through her—saw her desperation and her strategy. He seemed to find it almost amusing.

Her body, acting on instinct, craved coolness, craved relief. She moved closer, radiating waves of heat. She pressed her forehead against the cool fabric of his suit jacket, and a shudder ran through her. Her fingers, clumsy and uncoordinated, moved from his knee to the buttons of his shirt.

She was fumbling with the second button when his hand shot out, his fingers wrapping around her wrist like steel handcuffs.

In one fluid motion, he yanked her across the seat, pulling her onto his lap so that she was straddling him. A gasp escaped her lips. The power dynamic shifted in a dizzying, terrifying instant. She was no longer the seductress; she was the captive.

He grabbed her chin again, his grip hard and merciless, and crushed his mouth against hers.

The kiss was a punishment. It was rough, invasive, and utterly devoid of passion. It was a pure display of power, a conqueror planting his flag on new territory. There was no gentleness—only the pressure of his lips, the sharp, unwelcome taste of whiskey and control.

Chloe's mind went blank. Part of her wanted to fight, to twist away, but her body, betrayed by the drug, responded with a pure, reluctant thrum of arousal. The heat inside her coiled tighter—a confusing mix of fear and a desperate, physical need.

Just as she felt herself beginning to come undone, a helpless tremor running through her, he ended the kiss.

He pushed her off his lap, shoving her back into the corner of the seat like a piece of trash. The sudden disconnection was like a physical blow, leaving her feeling empty, exposed, and achingly hollow.

She stared at him, her chest heaving, tears of confusion and humiliation burning in her eyes.

Julian calmly straightened his tie and smoothed his jacket. He looked at her, his expression as unreadable and cold as a stone wall.

"Game over," he said, his voice flat and icy. "You lost."
