Chapter 4

Cameron spoke gently into his phone. "Does your belly still hurt? Don't worry. I'll be there soon to keep you company. A miscarriage isn't a small thing. You need to rest well and take care of your body.

"I'll bring you some chicken soup later. Just wait for me!"

I was lying in bed resting when Cameron kicked open the door. He frowned and looked at me, asking, "Are you feeling better?"

I could tell that he definitely wasn't asking this out of concern for me.

"Thanks to you, I almost died in the hospital!" I snapped.

Cameron knit his brows together even more tightly. "What do you mean by that? It looks like you've almost recovered. Get up and boil some chicken soup!" he demanded.

I chuckled coldly. "For whom? You?"

A trace of guilt flashed across Cameron's face as he said, "Why do you care who it's for? Just make it if I tell you to!"

"Hah! You want me to make some soup for that bitch? Does she deserve it?" I sneered.

Although my words were harsh, my heart felt like it was bleeding out on the inside.

The man who was my husband on paper—the man who swore to love me the most—wanted me to cook some chicken soup to nourish another woman's body. But he had forgotten that I had just gotten out of the hospital.

I was also someone who went through an induced abortion. However, all his attention and affection were focused on Julie!

Cameron acted like he was forced to act because of my answer. He opened the wardrobe and pulled out a bank card.

It contained all the savings we had accumulated over the years of our marriage. But we had agreed that this money was meant for the baby.

"Since you're unwilling to help out, you can help out by giving money!" he exclaimed before leaving.

This was our joint marital property—why should it be spent on that woman?

With that thought in mind, I chased him to the hospital.

When I arrived, I saw Cameron hugging Julie and saying, "If you're not feeling well, just lie down and rest properly! What's so great about these flowers? If you like them, I'll buy a whole room full and put them in your hospital room, okay?"

I wanted to call out to him. "Ho… ney…"

But the rest of the words seemed stuck in my throat.

I couldn't say anything, and it felt like sand had gotten into my eyes—tears started to uncontrollably stream down my face.

He used his own body to cushion Julie, seemingly afraid that the hospital chair would be too hard and hurt his beloved Julie.

Although he hadn't rested well these days and had obvious dark circles under his eyes, his gaze was still bright, as if he was holding some precious treasure.

Cameron didn't even bother getting his own pair of shoes while at home, and he never washed the dishes after meals.

But in front of his first love, he was willing to be a human cushion.

"Cameron, if you're staying here with me, then what about your wife?" Julie asked.

Her question seemed to be asked casually, but I could tell that her gaze was deliberately directed toward me.

It seemed she had already noticed me early on.

"What does her life or death have to do with me? I just want to be with you and watch you recover!" Cameron replied dotingly.

"Is it really okay to give me that bank card? Are you not worried I'll take the money and run?" Julie shyly asked.

Cameron smiled indulgently. "Don't mention that card. Even if you wanted my life, I'd give it to you too!"

"Aren't you going to leave any funds for your wife? She has also just lost her child and needs rest as well."

"It's fine! I don't expect her to have something good come out of her womb anyway!" Cameron snorted.

Julie hugged Cameron and silently flashed a victorious smile in my direction.

I saw her lips form the words, "You lost!"

Only now did I realize that Julie never truly loved Cameron.

She just wanted to win—win over me.

Chapter 5

But there was one thing I didn't understand—why did I have to be Julie's target?

I had never met her before, and I only learned from Cameron's friends that he had an ex-girlfriend like her.

After I got married to Cameron without a hitch, my daily focus was always on how to help him relax after work and make sure he had a satisfying meal.

Later on, Betty kept urging me to have a child, and I was caught up in the constant process of trying to conceive.

Cameron had been working very hard at work, and it was common for him to return home at ten o'clock at night.

Every night, I would drag my tired body to prepare a hearty late-night snack for him.

After a long time of not being able to conceive, Betty began to think that something was wrong with my body. She dragged me to the hospital for a checkup, and while there, I convinced Cameron to do a full-body checkup with me.

The results showed that my body was in perfect condition, and instead, Cameron was the one with problems.

His prolonged heavy smoking, drinking, and late nights had caused him to develop azoospermia—his probability of having children was less than 0.3%.

I didn't tell him about this to save him his dignity. I only said that both of us had healthy bodies and that as long as we did proper preparations for getting pregnant, we would eventually have a child.

However, Betty continued to insist that there was definitely something wrong with my body.

I secretly researched many dietary supplements and cooked three different nutritious meals each day for Cameron, hoping it might help him.

I even self-learned some medical knowledge and massaged his feet every day, wishing that he could sleep better. I also had to secretly consult a fertility specialist about Cameron's condition.

Not only that, I took various medications to improve my chances of having a healthy pregnancy and keep my body in an optimal state for conception.

After we got married, Cameron repeatedly told me how lucky he was to have an amazing wife like me, claiming that he was the happiest man in the world.

"Julie, what exactly do you want to do?" I mused in my mind.

I wanted to run over and demand answers—what did she "win"? Why was she trying to "win"?

However, Julie simply trembled, and Cameron immediately angrily pointed his finger at me.

"Justine, what are you trying to do here? Didn't I warn you not to disturb Julie?" he snapped.

I looked at the man in front of me. My heart felt so ice-cold—it was a feeling I had never experienced before.

"Since you treasure her so much, let's just get divorced!" I cried.

Just then, a passerby picked up the report I had dropped on the ground. "Who's Cameron? You dropped your infertility report!"

Cameron rushed over in shock. He took the report and looked it over again and again.

This was something I had brought over to show to him, but it had accidentally fallen to the ground and ended up getting picked up by a passerby.

The gathered crowd began to whisper.

"Infertile? What's the difference between him and a castrated man?"

"Tsk! A guy like this is trying to do the same as others and keep a mistress? What a joke!"

Cameron was just as shocked as everyone else. From the beginning till the end, he had always thought I was the problem, but he never expected that the one who truly couldn't father children was him.

"Justine, you forged this, didn't you? How could there be anything wrong with my body?" he shouted.

I regarded him with a cold gaze and said, "This is the report the hospital issued after our first full-body checkup. I've worked so hard for so many years before finally getting pregnant. I did my best to give you the chance to be a father!

"But since you didn't cherish it, then forget about it. Let's get divorced!"
