[Honey, when are you coming over?]
Below the message was a selfie showing a deep cleavage.
[You little tease. I'm almost there.]
[Don't come over yet! Troy came home early!]
[What? Didn't that guy say he wasn't coming back until tomorrow? Damn it.]
[I'm sorry. Let's meet tomorrow at our usual spot. I'll make it up to you.]
[Alright. You said it. Don't back out. And don't you dare let that idiot touch you tonight, got it?]
[Of course. Troy is boring and way too serious. He's nothing like you. I'd never let him touch me!]
My fists clenched so tightly that my nails almost dug into my skin.
I couldn't believe Phoebe betrayed me and even sent disgusting messages like this to another man.
Before, it was only a suspicion. Now, the evidence was right in front of me, and there was no denying it anymore.
Phoebe and I met in college. When I first met her, I was drawn in by her bright, lively personality.
Back then, I saved every penny I could. Every weekend, I would use whatever I scraped together to take her to the nicest restaurants in Lakewood Heights.
Meanwhile, on campus, I survived on peanut butter sandwiches.
A jar of peanut butter could last me a whole month.
By junior year, after interning at a construction site, I used my very first paycheck to buy Phoebe a designer bag.
After all my persistence, she finally agreed to be my girlfriend.
I was over the moon. I thought my dedication had finally moved her.
But everyone at school said Phoebe was a gold digger and told me to stay away from her.
I thought they were jealous that I had such a great girlfriend. Sour grapes, I told myself.
I never imagined that not even six months after getting married, Phoebe would hook up with another man behind my back.
And she cheated with her driving instructor, at that!
No wonder she kept running to driving school for half a year, yet somehow never passed the test. As it turned out, all the lessons were happening in bed.
She spent my money to take lessons and hooked up with the instructor instead.
Thinking about it, something inside me snapped. I looked at Phoebe sleeping beside me and smacked her across the face.
The sharp crack echoed through the quiet room, the whole air turning still.
Phoebe woke up groggy, a hand pressed to her cheek. "What's wrong?"
I lowered my voice, cold and flat. "Nothing. I killed a mosquito for you. Go back to sleep."
Phoebe didn't sense anything wrong and drifted back to sleep.
While she slept, I installed a monitoring app on her phone.
There was only one thing left on my mind now: I was going to make those two pay.
Early the next morning, Phoebe sat at her vanity, touching up her makeup. She was already dressed in a strappy summer dress.
"Heading out this early? Where are you going?" I asked casually.
Phoebe shot me a quick look. "To driving practice, obviously. After all the hours I've put in, you'd better buy me a car when I finally get my license!"
"No problem. How about a Mini Cooper?"
The second I said it, her eyes lit up.
"Really? I knew you were the best!"
She walked out the door, humming like she had just won the lottery.
Yeah, keep dreaming! Let her enjoy that lie for now.
As soon as she left, I followed right after her.
I didn't dare take my own car; it was way too easy for her to notice.
So I waved down a cab and told the driver to follow her car.
The driver looked irritated. "No way I can keep up with that. Are you trying to get us both killed?"
"I'm trying to catch my cheating wife," I said seriously.
His whole attitude flipped. "Say no more, brother. I've got this. Sit tight."
Then he slammed the gas and took off.
Just like I expected, Phoebe was dropped off at a driving school.
I followed from a distance and slipped into a narrow side path where I could watch without being seen.
The driving school wasn't busy today. Just a few students were practicing.
Phoebe went straight to a small cluster of trees, where an instructor's car was parked. She climbed in like she had done it a hundred times. A man was sitting in the passenger seat.
The two of them started making out right there in the car.
I immediately pulled out my phone, recording everything as I opened the monitoring app.
Phoebe's voice shook. "Liam… What if someone sees us…"
"What's the problem? That's the fun part."
I wanted to rip the door open and drag them both out, but I forced myself to stay put.
A few minutes later, after they finally finished, Phoebe caught her breath and said, "Honey, you're incredible… You're not like Troy. He's so boring and clueless."
The man smirked. "I want to open a gym, but I'm short on cash. Can you get some from your husband? Tell him you want to open a little shop or something. I found the perfect place. I just need 400 grand more."
Phoebe patted her chest proudly. "Don't worry. Troy never says no to me. And once I divorce him and leave him with nothing, I'll use his money to take care of you."
So there it was. She wasn't just cheating; she and her lover were planning to bleed me dry.
Letting someone like her walk around free was like allowing a disaster to roam the streets.
I pushed down my rage and walked away from the driving school.
Phoebe betrayed me first. She couldn't blame me for what happened next.
Instead of going home, I took a cab to Herman Fox's place; my college buddy.
Herman was a rich kid whose daily routine mostly involved drinking coffee, chilling, and collecting rent.
I told him everything. To my surprise, he got angrier than I was, slamming the table and calling Phoebe a tramp.
Herman had connections everywhere. It didn't take long for him to dig up Liam's whole background.
It turned out that Liam wasn't just fooling around with Phoebe. He had also attached himself to a wealthy older student. With her help, he went from instructor to driving school owner.
Well, damn. This guy lived off women for a living.
A little later, Herman got the older woman's contact. I made a new account and added her as a friend.
She accepted almost instantly.
I sent her every video I had recorded of Phoebe and Liam in the car.
For a while, she didn't reply for a while.
Then, she asked who I was and why I sent her all that.
I ignored her questions and just sent her the driving school's address.
Then I added, [Take a good look at yourself, you old hag. What do you have that compares to me? Liam said that even if you stripped down, he still wouldn't be interested.]
She replied right away, [Just you wait!]
Oh, this was going to be entertaining!
