At the board meeting the next day, Ansel sat to Jenna's left.
She beamed at the staff as she made her announcement. "I'm thrilled to share that Zest Summer Group has secured a 50-million-dollar partnership with Aerowood Group in the Edrendalian market. We owe this tremendous success to Ansel."
The room erupted in thunderous applause as everyone rushed to suck up to Ansel.
Amused, I asked, "And how exactly did Ansel close this deal?"
I'd flown to Edrendale myself to meet Aerowood Group's CEO and finalized the partnership. He'd most likely sent the confirmation email today, so Ansel had the chance to swoop in and steal the credit.
Jenna shot me a sharp glare, and her expression darkened.
"Ansel met Aerowood Group's CEO, Mr. Gray, back when he was doing part-time work. They hit it off, and when Ansel knew that I was struggling with project funding, he racked his brain and convinced Mr. Gray just to work with us."
Ansel puffed out his chest with a hint of guilt on his face. "I didn't expect it to work out either, but I'm glad it did. My only wish was to contribute to Zest Summer Group's growth."
"You're way too modest, Mr. Meyer. That 50-million-dollar deal is absolutely incredible!" someone chimed in.
"He's nothing like some people who doubt others and contribute zero. They really have no shame."
The speaker was busy kissing Ansel's ass while taking a jab at me, but I didn't bother to respond. Instead, I couldn't wait to see how hard Ansel would fall after being lifted so high up the pedestal.
After the meeting, I handed Jenna the divorce papers. She glanced at them and decisively signed.
"You're leaving with nothing, Elton. Don't you dare go back on your word."
I scoffed. "Trust me. I won't."
As I walked out of the lobby, a McLaren was parked at the entrance. A bright, lively young woman hopped out of the back seat and ran over, looping her arm through mine.
She tilted her head and smiled. "I've finally found you, Elton."
I carefully studied her face and found her incredibly familiar, but I couldn't quite place her. She was probably the younger sister or niece of one of my close friends.
Behind me, I could hear my colleagues murmuring.
"Holy crap, so Elton's got himself a sugar mama. No wonder he's never serious about work."
"It turns out that he's been sneaking off to meet his sugar mama during office hours. What on earth does the rich heiress see in him?"
At the same time, Jenna and Ansel followed me out.
Without a word, she stepped up and slapped me across the face again. "No wonder you were so quick to sign the divorce papers, Elton. You've hooked up with a rich new catch!"
I gasped in disbelief, "What the hell are you talking about? I never cheated on you, and you're the one who ruined our marriage!"
Completely ignoring my words, she started kicking my legs like a madwoman and screaming at the top of her lungs, "You heartless jerk! You've been sleeping together this whole time, haven't you?
"And you, you little slut! Even if I've just divorced him, I won't tolerate this insult!"
The young woman looked bewildered. "Ma'am, I have no idea what you're talking about—"
But Jenna had grabbed her by the hair. "I'll beat you to death, you shameless homewrecker!"
The crowd behind us reeled from the shock of our divorce and rushed in to help. "Let's teach the mistress a lesson!"
"What are you doing?" I shouted and quickly tried to stop them. "This is assault! You'll go to jail!"
But Ansel grabbed me from behind and pinned me in place. "Go ahead and let it all out, Jenna! I've got you!"
I couldn't move, and all I could do was watch as the young woman who'd just called my name got beaten up by the crowd. Soon, she was bruised and swollen as she lay collapsed on the ground, crying in pain.
Ansel shoved me toward two security guards and joined in to kick her hard.
"That's for hooking up with Jenna's ex-husband, you shameless slut! Now you know what happens to homewreckers!"
Jenna's face was contorted with near-psychotic fury, and her gaze was crazed as she yanked viciously at the woman's hair. "This is the price you pay for cheating on me, Elton!"
"You're going to regret this!" I roared.
Ansel delivered another brutal kick to the young woman's stomach. She curled into a ball from the pain and clutched her head.
Suddenly, a Maybach screeched to a stop. The rear door swung open before a man in a perfectly tailored suit stepped out, radiating the air of authority of an innate ruler.
The silver wristwatch on his wrist was a one-of-a-kind piece, worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Four rows of bodyguards fell into two precise, straight lines on both sides and called out in deferent voices, "Mr. Gray."
The battered, barely conscious young woman on the ground looked up and cried out, "Mitch, you're finally here! I want Jenna's company wiped out of Sccolt at once!"
