I fell to the floor, and the pain made me writhe.
However, even so, Yelena did not let me go. She kicked me hard and scolded me.
“Go to the hospital and apologize to Declan right now!”
She grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the room.
Fresh bloodstains left vivid marks on the floor, yet she remained completely oblivious.
Rainie stood at the door, and her gaze was full of cold disappointment.
“Daddy, why do you have to act like this?
“If you don’t apologize to Uncle Declan today, Mommy and I will never forgive you!”
Pain filled my body. I could barely hear what she was saying.
Yelena brought me to the hospital and left me in a corridor.
“Kneel here!
“When Declan wakes up, come inside and apologize to him!”
I was lying on the floor, unmoving, because I had already fainted.
Yet, Yelena’s eyes lacked an ounce of compassion. Instead, she looked completely disdainful.
After a long while, I finally opened my eyes to a very familiar face.
It was my friend, Theo Schmitz.
“Theo…”
When he heard my weak voice, he scolded me in a disappointed tone.
“When did you start being sick?
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
I gently comforted Theo. “I thought you were still angry.”
When I got into a relationship with Yelena, Theo had advised me to be careful.
He said Yelena was indifferent and arrogant. He said she did not love me, that she was not right for me. He warned me not to marry her.
But I refused to listen to him. I insisted on diving into the abyss named Yelena.
It looked like Theo had already learned of Yelena’s true colors. He strongly opposed our relationship because he did not want me to suffer.
“I was angry because you cared nothing for yourself. You insisted on marrying that woman!
“Now, look what’s become of you…”
He heaved a huge sigh.
“Zane, if we find you a suitable kidney, there’s still a chance for you to recover.
“Don’t give up on yourself, okay?”
Theo suppressed his sadness, hoping I could pull myself together.
I shook my head.
“It’s too late!”
It was all too late.
I was very clear about my current situation.
When Yelena hurt me, I felt my internal organs move. They even felt damaged.
Even God could not save me.
Theo sensed my disappointment, and he covered his face in anguish.
After a while, he raised his head.
“Zane, when you’re discharged, let’s go to South City, okay?”
I slowly nodded, agreeing to his request.
It had been very quiet in the hospital for the last few days.
Yelena and the others did not disturb me. They seemed to have forgotten I was here.
I thought that things would continue to be that peaceful, but Theo soon showed up.
He put on sunglasses and a mask.
I was confused. He explained before I could ask.
“It’s just an allergy. The weather has been dry lately.”
His evasive behavior made me even more suspicious.
When Theo was not looking, I pulled off his mask.
His cheeks were strangely red and swollen, the corners of his eyes were bruised, and there were faint bluish marks on his wrists.
Suddenly, a surge of agonizing anger welled up in my chest.
“Theo, what happened?
“Who did this to you?”
