Chapter 8

Third person's POV

Amelia seethed at him, making him sigh heavily. "Damn, Amy. You were struggling financially, so I thought—"

"You thought what? Will you come and pay my brother's expenses like a hero? You're nothing but a reason for him to be on a deathbed. You and your sister are the most disgusting people I ever came across!" She yelled while she was in a fit of rage.

If Liam dared not to interfere and tried to cover her brother's medical bills, she wouldn't come over just to see that bastard.

But then again, it had been refunded to him. All her savings were almost empty, and she had to pay for it herself, not depending on anyone's help, especially when it came from the most hated person alive—Liam.

Meanwhile, as Liam heard it, it boiled his blood. He did his best to support her but ended up getting wronged.

He took steps towards her and stood before her, glaring at her.

"Amy, I have been trying to support you financially, but you won't accept it. What is wrong with you?!" Liam was puzzled. "You barely earn money. Just because of your damn brother, you suffer! You still dared to refund the money I paid for his bills?! What for?!"

She was about to interrupt, but Liam added, "It is you who wants to be a hero! Your ego lets you go through these experiences! Why can't you just apologize and admit your brother did it? In that simple way, your life will be back to normal…."

She shook her head. "I don't care if my suffering will be endless as long as I don't ask for your damn help!"

"Then what about your brother? Your brother assaulted my sister!" he replied and chuckled. "But still, you're taking his side. He, committing suicide, shows that he assaulted my si—"

His words were cut down with a sharp slap he received from her.

"The case is going on, Liam Stone. Don't forget that. You have no right to accuse him until he's proven guilty because I know. I have faith in my brother. And you will see him being declared innocent right before you. Mark my words."

"I know, Amy. Do you think you can still survive the trial?" Liam asked, smirking. "Let us see, Amy. Let us see who will win at the end."

Suddenly, he grabbed her arms, which she instantly shrugged off. Liam stopped breathing briefly when he witnessed disgust written over her face. She held both her arms up, shooting him a disgusted glare.

"Don't touch me with these disgusting hands of yours. I can't believe that I once loved you. I can't believe that I have been married to a selfish, self-centered, and power-hungry bastard like you!"

Liam stepped back in shock. When he heard her words, his heart vigorously drummed.

"Remember this, Liam. Mark my words. One day, you will cry tears of blood. You will beg for one glance of comfort from someone. You will crave genuine love, but you will be alone at that time. There will be no one for you. You will beg, but you won't hear anything in return." She stopped for a while, giving Liam a severe stare.

"Your regret will be your biggest punishment because of what you did to my brother; you will pay for your sin and the forgiveness you wouldn't get from anyone, not even yourself. One day, your selfishness will show you what losing everything with your hands feels like."

Something inside him broke when he heard those words from the woman he loved. She walked out of his office. Liam's eyes fell on the money spread on the floor. He grabbed the receipt and clutched it hard.

His eyes hardened, turning bloodshot as tears burned his gaze. Her every word hit him like a knife. But her last words made his insides flip upside down. He tried to ignore them, but something in her words scared him.

He was scared that her every word would turn into a horrible truth. He shook his head, reminding himself that his sister would never accuse someone, especially Harry, as he knew her sister always respected Harry; then why would she ruin the man she liked? That's impossible.

He sat on the couch, palming his forehead as a tear escaped his eyes. No matter how many women he took, no matter how many touches he felt on his body, Amelia's was and would remain different—a special one.

He kind of lost hope of getting his Amelia back. He did everything he could to make her submit to him, but nothing. He ruined their small business, bringing them to the streets. He destroyed their chances of winning the case.

But still, when he heard about Harry's suicide attempt, he couldn't help but feel immense grief, so he decided to help Amelia as he knew she was struggling financially.

But now, his last hope of helping and gaining her back broke out. There was no way his ex-wife would come back to him, not after being a cause of her brother's condition.

"She is right. I am selfish. Now, I will show her how selfish I can be."

Chapter 9

Amelia's POV

"I am sorry, Ms. Kale, but we are trying our best. Your brother seems like he doesn't want to wake up." Sighing heavily, I took those painful words in check.

Nodding at him, I stared at my brother's body, lying lifelessly on the bed. IVs were attached to his body.

My savings were almost empty. It wouldn't be enough to cover his medical expenses, let alone to help him survive.

I am damn tired, clueless, and have been crying endlessly day and night. My brother and I didn't deserve all our suffering because he was wronged.

"Don't worry, brother. Your sister wouldn't give up like you. I will fight till my last breath. I will," I whispered, kissing his pale hand before taking a deep breath and leaving the ward.

Right afterward, I met the nurse, who had checked my brother's current medical expenses. She checked the computer and reported, "Ms. Kale, I am afraid you must pay for it now. Your brother's stay here would increase his expenses, plus all the medications...."

I tried checking my savings and the money left in my wallet, but even if I combined them, they weren't enough.

My heart skipped a beat, and I wondered where to get money to cover it all.

"Will it be possible if I can pay for it next week?" I pleased the nurse; I had nothing left, even showing my money to her. "This is all that I have. I know it's not enough—"

The nurse took it and replied, "Okay, I'll deduct this from the current medical expenses, but please pay as soon as you can…."

I heaved a sigh and thanked the nurse despite her insisting I pay as soon as possible. Afterward, I left the hospital and walked out, feeling empty.

Only one man entered my mind to help me—Liam. But after his insults and what he had done to me, I wouldn't ask for his help. That bullshit was the reason behind our torments.

That damn man I used to love dared to let me struggle. I thought he loved me the way I loved him, but how could he stand seeing me in this situation? How could he be able to sleep realizing this?

Life was a cycle. His turn to suffer would come his way soon.

I shook those thoughts away as I went back home. There, I felt it was too heavy, so I sobbed. I have had enough of this.

"He can't tear us down. I will ensure you'll regret doing this to me, Liam…" I whispered.

Our business was not doing well, and Liam did an excellent job destroying it. I tried to revive it, hoping it would survive, but no.

The investors had already pulled out their shares. In addition, the declining sales had urged the company to go bankrupt. Liam succeeded again in dragging us.

Despite how he kept on dragging us down, it didn't stop me from looking for a way out. I couldn't just sit and wait for the worst thing to happen.

As the days passed, I continued hunting for a job. Mostly, I was rejected or denied, but I was lucky enough when that one company accepted me. It was a relief—finally, I could earn. Yet, it wasn't enough to cover all my brother's medical expenses. Although it had already been delayed, I could still gather funds and pay for some of it.

"Liam, whatever you do, you can't stop me. You can't control me to come back to you…" I mumbled.

It was crystal clear he was doing it; maybe he expected that he would be my last resort. He might have expected that I would come to him one day, submit, beg, and ask for help.

No, it would never happen. Let that bullshit keep on dreaming.

As soon as I started working, I got fired out of nowhere. At first, I thought it was normal, but not until I got another job did I realize I was getting fired. I only worked for a week or hardly a month in any place as I always got fired.

Yet, that didn't tire me of looking for a new job. It might be part-time or full-time, but I never mind as long as I can earn a living.

I knew it was Liam who was behind all of this. He kept on playing with us and seemed to enjoy seeing me in pain. I almost could not control myself and confront that damn bastard again, but I didn't dare to do so just to prove that I could stand all these adversities, whatever it took.

Two weeks passed. The pain still lingered within me and could not almost make me sleep. Hiding it all deep within me, I attended the trial once again. The case kept on going against us. It sucks!

I couldn't believe Liam would play dirty with us again. Was he not satisfied? Harry and I had already suffered. I feel ashamed that I forgot my worth once I loved that man more than myself.

"Amelia."

Out of the blue, I returned to my senses, and soon, my name was mentioned, startling me. A familiar face appeared before me, making me smile slightly.

Chapter 10

Amelia's POV

She instantly hugged me tightly, almost jumping on my body, earning a huff from my lips.

"Lily. How are you? You came back." She pulled back and stared at me with a glare. I was left stunned when I witnessed a tear escaping her eye.

"Hey. Lily, why are you crying?" I gently wiped her wet cheek, making her grab my hand.

"You were going through all of this alone. You didn't even care to inform me. Come on, Amy, aren't we friends? I thought we were like sisters."

"Yes, Lily, you are like my sister. How can you even question me about something like this?" She shook her head before grabbing my wrist and pulling me into a garden near the hospital.

"Tell me, Amy, why am I not informed about all the pain you're going through alone? It's even been six months since you talked to me. Do you have any idea how worried I was? But you know your ignorance did a good job. That I decided to visit you and finally came to know about everything."

I looked down. I wanted to tell her. She's the only one with whom I could share my pain, but in all of this mess, I forgot about her.

"I am sorry, Lily. Forgive me. In all of these problems, I forgot to tell you this. I am sorry." She shook her head, grabbing my hands.

"Don't be. I can understand. Yes, I was upset, but I can understand that it's not easy to handle everything, especially on your own. Tell me about our little boy. How's he doing?"

I shook my head as tears gathered in my eyes. "No progress. The doctor is saying it seems like he had given up. And…"

My throat tightens as a sob gathers in it. She instantly pulled me in her arms. And within seconds, I burst out crying.

"I can't do this, Lily. I am losing my strength every second. Liam had destroyed everything. What should I do, Lily? I sobbed, clutching her jacket as she rubbed my back.

"That bastard. Don't worry, Amy. I am here for you. We will fight for our little Prince." Shaking my head, I broke the hug and wiped my tears away.

"The lawyer had already told me that there are no chances of our victory. Liam had done everything in his power to win this."

"I don't even have a job anymore. I need money for my brother, to pay for the lawyer, for my basic needs. Liam is trying everything to make me beg from him. I do not want that to happen."

"And you wouldn't," she said, grabbing my shoulders and staring straight into my eyes.

"I want to help you. But I am nothing against the Stones. We need someone who could show him his place, someone who could help you financially and with your brother's case? And only a powerful person just like Liam can do it."

I stared at her telling her that we didn't know any influential people except Liam, but instead, she gave me a small smile.

"You trust me, right?" I nodded without any hesitation, making her grin happily with my answer.

"So, listen to me. I know one person who's not only powerful, but many people worship him. Don't worry. You don't have to do anything wrong. He's Luca's boss, and I heard he needs help with something. I can't explain everything because I think it's better if he explains it to you. I will send you his address."

This sounded cryptic as I was about to accept an offer from a man I did not even know.

But do you have any choice? A voice in my head taunted me as I sighed heavily again. "Amy, you said you trust me, then do this. He's the only man who can help you to fight against Liam."

I looked up at her curious eyes before nodding my head, making her smile gratefully. I know Lily will never let me do things that could harm me. I trust her.

And I am ready to do this. I will do this for my brother, parents, and myself. I have to do this.

"Alright, let's go somewhere. We have a lot of catching up to do. I missed you so damn much. Even Luca was asking about you."

Lily and I were friends from diapers. We are like sisters. But when I got married, she also found the love of her life, Luca. That guy was the most polite man I had ever met. He was so much in love with her.

Lily had to move away with her husband as Luca got a job away from home. I did miss her a lot. We called each other almost every day, but after all this mess, I forgot about her.

The next day I got Lily's message. I somehow knew this address. It is near the company of the Stones.

I reached the place Lily told me. A small yelp left from my lips when a small body got slammed against my legs. I instantly kneeled, helping the little guy to stand up.

"Hey, little boy, what are you doing alone here? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to run on streets?" I said, dusting his dirty clothes.

I tilted my head in confusion when the boy kept on staring at me with a weird gaze. He held a writing board in his hand, and when I asked him once more, he remained silent. Instead, he began to sketch something on the board. Initially, I was puzzled, but as he completed the drawing, I recognized that it was an angel.

He pointed towards the angel he had drawn and then directed his finger towards me. It took me aback. Could he possibly be referring to me as the angel?
