Chapter 1

My bride went missing on the night of our big day but woke up in my brother's room the next day.

My parents persuaded me to ignore it for the sake of fame but scolded my wife as an easy girl.

Angrily, I moved out of the villa with my wife.

Soon after, my wife had a miscarriage and suffered from depression due to gossip. She jumped off from the top floor in front of me.

Desperately, I followed her.

Opening my eyes again, I found myself back to the time when the wedding ended.

The light in the banquet hall glowed softly.

In a tailored suit, I smiled and waved goodbye to the guests attending the wedding. I was eager to drive home and see my bride.

At this time, the housemaid came to me anxiously, saying my wife Esther was missing.

The smile on my face suddenly died.

Growing up in an orphanage, Esther was timid and kind. She didn't know anyone in Northside.

Fearing that she might be taken advantage of in the street, I hurriedly drove to look for her.

I ran all over the Northside during the night, but didn't check our family's villa.

I reported it to the police and dragged myself home.

Then I found my wife running out of my brother's room dishevelled, her eyes swollen.

Seeing me, she froze momentarily, then covered her face and ran back to our bedroom, crying.

She locked the door from inside and sobbed, refusing to come out.

"Mum, what's going on?"

As I asked Esther to open the door, I questioned my mum.

I called my parents yesterday, but they said Esther wasn't home.

They asked me to look for her outside and said they would search nearby.

I didn't expect to see this at home!

Anger rose in my heart. Seeing my brother come out, I flared up.

Striding forward, I swung my fist heavily into his disgusting face.

"Say, what did you do to Esther?"

My parents came to hold me. They said that my brother was always in bad health and asked me not to fuss.

"Well, Jason, for the sake of the family reputation, be tolerant.

“If it spreads out, our family will be ashamed.

“Besides, Esther has no sense of decency. Knowing your brother is at home, she wears such revealing clothes."

Oh, revealing clothes?

But a few days ago, my mum picked out the dress for Esther!

At that time, she kept encouraging Esther to wear it.

She said the dress was gorgeous, reminding her of her younger self.

Now the dress was revealing. I see. They schemed on purpose!

Being a manic, my brother was unable to marry even when he was in his late 20s.

So they schemed against my wife.

I wished I had detected it earlier. If I'd moved out with Esther, this would not have happened!

I was filled with anger. Even if my parents begged me on their knees, I resolutely called the police.

I would not accept any mediation. They owe it to Esther and me!

I knocked open the door. Without looking back, I took Esther by her hand and left the home where I had stayed for more than 20 years but without any warmth.

From then on, this was nothing more than a strange place, with nothing to do with Esther and me.

I was regretful. Esther lost her parents in her childhood. She suffered a lot growing up in the orphanage.

She had already had a miserable childhood.

But I didn't protect her well, making her suffer on the wedding night.

I hated myself, and I hated that family all my life!

Chapter 2

They were my parents, too, but why would they treat Esther and me like that?

Was it just because when we were young, the deceitful fortune-teller claimed that my brother was born extraordinary?

Born extraordinary? When the whole family was ruined, I thought, they would know how extraordinary he was!

For Esther to forget the unpleasantness as soon as possible, we left Northside and bought a house in a new place.

For fear that she couldn't get over it, I stayed with her every day. I also accompanied her to the orphanage and visited children with no parents.

Under my careful care, Esther's closed heart was finally reopened to me.

Like a healing wound, she began to feel the warmth of life again.

The company repeatedly called me. It was my brother who abused his powers and made a blunder again.

The directors are desperate to have me back to pick up the pieces.

Overhearing the call, Esther smiled and told me she was all right.

She said work was important and asked me to return to deal with it.

In the orphanage, I saw her playing happily with the children. It seemed that her mood lightened a lot.

Considering for a long time, I spared the time and flew back to Northside.

I cammed with her on WhatsApp until I saw her sleeping soundly at night.

At two o'clock in the morning, I returned home.

When I turned on the light, I saw the moonlight casting dappled shadows through the curtains, but I didn't see Esther.

She was not in the bedroom!

I felt my heart in my mouth. A faint light came through the bathroom door and then came the sound of water.

I ran over, pushed the door open and got in.

I saw Esther standing in the shower with her back to me, water pouring relentlessly over her head.

The shower head sent out steaming hot water, and Esther's entire back turned red.

The scalding water was pouring down on her as if she wanted to wash all the unhappiness and dirt out of her.

As she trembled, my eyes turned scarlet.

I repressed heartache and worry, my nails embedded in my palms.

As she was weeping, she couldn't help shivering.

I quickly went closer to her and turned off the hot water.

I asked her cautiously in a soft voice, "Esther, have you finished showering?"

She did not answer but tightened her body to stop shaking, standing still.

I knew she was afraid of my worry and was trying to calm herself by gritting her teeth.

I reached out with a trembling hand and touched her gently on the back shoulder, trying to comfort her.

She shuddered and then quickly covered her face. After a long time, she finally turned around.

She looked up and tried to smile at me.

Her eyes were red and swollen.

Seeing this, the pain stabbed at his chest as if it had been torn by something.

I took her in my arms and held her tight.

"I'm sorry. I... I just feel too hot, so... so..."

Noticing I didn't speak, she tried to explain, sounding incoherent.

In a panic, she subconsciously turned on the faucet.

This action made me heartbroken to the utmost.

I held her tightly in my arms, shielding her from the water.

The hot water from above had my clothes soaked.

At this moment, I just wanted her to know one thing.

No matter what happened, I would be there for her.

We stood together in the water, without words, just each other's body heat and the water intertwined.

After a long time, she finally looked up and said she had finished showering.

I reached out my hand for her face to wipe off the liquid, a mix of tears and water.

Chapter 3

I breathed a sigh of relief and then nodded. Clenching my trembling hands, I took Esther to the bedroom.

She lay still in my arms, and I gently stroked her hair. Finally, we both fell asleep.

When I woke, I found Esther was not in my arms.

An ominous sense occurred to me immediately.

She had been restless in bed these nights, so she would not wake up before ten o 'clock every day.

But then, it was only seven in the morning!

I hurried out of bed and put on my shoes, only to find her phone lying quietly on the floor.

But the screen was on.

My heart racing, I picked it up at once.

There were photos on the screen. With anger and tension, I felt like my heart was in my mouth.

That was an anonymous MMS message filled with candid photos of Esther being violated by my brother.

Every photo was evidence confirming what I least wanted to believe.

My evil brother violated my wife on my wedding night.

And both my parents were accomplices!

I was unable to imagine how desperate Esther had been!

In an instant, I was filled with boundless hatred. At that moment, another message popped up on her phone.

I tapped on it hurriedly.

It was an examination report from the hospital.

It turned out that she was already one month pregnant at that time!

I wanted to slap myself to death. As a husband, I didn't realize it until then.

What had I done?

However, my unborn child, in the end, was also tragically killed in a conspiracy devised by my parents and my brother.

I stumbled through the familiar corridors.

I rushed down the stairs and sprinted to every corner of the neighborhood.

I called out her name in a trembling voice filled with remorse and fear.

It echoed through the empty neighborhood in the morning, but there was no response.

At that moment, I suddenly heard someone shouting not far away.

"Oh God, isn't that woman going to jump off the building!"

I was mad in an instant. Following the sound, I looked up and saw a thin figure standing on the edge of the top of Building 27.

It was Esther!

There she stood. The wind blew on her thin clothes, making her figure look shaky.

"No, please, no!"

I almost broke down. In a panic, I asked someone to call the police and then ran upstairs.

As soon as I knocked open the fire door on the top floor, I saw the lonely and desperate figure. At this moment, my heart was like being tightly gripped by a pair of pliers. I couldn't breathe at all.

Three years ago, I met Esther on the rooftop.

At the time, she was a volunteer trying to comfort a little girl who was to jump to her death after being orphaned by a car accident.

Not far from that building was a piece of land my company would develop for a new project.

If there was an accident, the whole project would be put on hold, and the loss would be incalculable.

Besides, it's a human life.

I quickly called for the firefighters and ambulance and then ran upstairs.

The little girl was emotional and cried for her mum and dad.

She whimpered that she had heard that people would become stars after they died and that she had to climb to the highest place to reach them.

She wanted to touch her mum and dad. Small as she was, she unexpectedly climbed up the high fence.

She was only five years old, so small that if she fell, she would die.

In desperation, Esther, who was unknown to me then, took my hand and slowly and carefully approached the little girl.

Her voice was soft, like a gentle wind.

She said, "Don't be afraid, sweetheart. Just stand still. Mummy and Daddy will come to take you home in a minute."

Ether's gentle words seemed enchanted, and the little girl's eyes lit up.

"Really?"

Though tears were still on her young little face, a smile slowly broke out after she heard Esther's voice.

It was as if, at that moment, she had indeed seen her parents.

"Mummy, I... I'm scared."

She called Esther mummy and then called me daddy. A magical power seemed to grow in my heart.

I looked over at her. The wind blew on her hair, warm and beautiful.

In a child's heart, mum and dad are the only sustenance and the gods in his heart.

"Good girl, hold the railing firmly. Yes, hold it like that. Mummy and Daddy will come to save you."

Esther said, looking at me solemnly. We looked at each other and gently nodded.

Then, before the little girl noticed, I rushed to her and held her. I had a roll with the girl in my arms. She was saved.

The little girl would have a different life, and Esther's kindness and bravery touched me.

After asking Esther out for three months, I finally won her over.

In the moonlight on the rooftop, our love blossomed like a rose, bright and hot.

But then, facing fate and plots, our love encountered such merciless destruction.

In the end, right in front of me, like a wisp of wind unable to be caught, she fell, from the roof.

Closing my eyes, I followed her.

With utter despair and hatred, I, together with her, ended our short lives.
