Emery's POV

 "Your mother is fine, it's just that the arrow that meant her was too poisonous," The pack doctor said, and both me and my sister nodded our heads.

"Thank you, doctor!" We chorused, forcing us to stare at each other. I tear my gaze from her and walked out of the infirmary.

My mom was still sleeping after speaking to us, and the horrors from last night tore me to pieces. A mother's sacrifice, was all I could say.

 "Hey Emery!" Someone called out to me, and I turned around, seeing my best friend running towards me.

"Sunny" She hugged me tightly, and I smiled, hugging her back. It's been quite a while since I have seen her, and her happy face is making me feel excited.

"Come with me." She heard my hands as she started running.

 "Geez where are we going to?" I asked.

"Shh..." Sunny shushed me off and then laughed. We stopped in the field that was filled with other people, and she made me sit down with her.

 "I've been searching for you," She finally said while I was catching my breath.

 "I was with my mother," Came my reply, and she let out a gasp.

 "Oh god, I've forgotten. How's Aunty? Heard about all that happened and how she handled the situation; hope she's fine now?" Sunny asked with worry in her voice.

 There was no need to say anything, so I nodded. My mother has always been the protector. Putting her life in front of everyone, and yesterday she took an arrow for Emilia. One of the guys lost control, and his wolf was aggressive, going on rampage, destroying everyone who came on his way. His wolf wanted to be in control and not going back which was bad because he was brutal.

 A lot of people tried to tame the wolf, including his parents, till they brought the fight to our doorsteps. If the pack people around couldn't reach the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma, they all came to my mother for help, and she's more than willing to help them.

Some warriors gathered around to stop the wolf from going further, but he was hellbent on letting loose when an arrow was fired at him, which he missed forcing it to head straight at my sister, but then my mother intervened, taking the arrow for her, it pierced her chest, painfully making her shift back to her human form.

 Yesterday night confirmed that I just couldn't only feel my twin sister but my mom too. The sharp pain that hit me and forced me out was from my mom and not Emilia, but how? I thought I could only feel Emilia because we're twins, but my mother's own is making it all confuse me.

 "Are you even listening to me?" Sunny tapped on my lap, and I stared at her briefly.

"I was saying your sister finally got everyone's dream man." She laughed, and I immediately knew who she was referring to, James. He was every unmated girl's dream like he got...What are you doing, Emery? You should literally stop thinking about that guy Is he not your mate.

 "Yeah, only if what I felt was true," I replied, lying on the grass flatly. I was so tried as hell because I didn't get any sleep last night.

"Wait, don't tell me you felt the mate bond?" Sunny asked, and I closed my eyes, not planning to reply her.

"Emery," She pulled me to sit straight, and I immediately regretted saying those words.

"Tell me, please," She begged. A sigh left my lips, and I decided on telling her everything.

"What? You mean he didn't feel what you felt? Oh my god," she gasped, starring at me, and I shook my head.

 "Why didn't you tell him to touch you at least? Maybe you might get those tingles," Sunny said, and I quickly thought about it. I never really confirmed, I would have touched him or made him touch me to confirm it wasn't my feelings I had but that of my sister.

I didn't even protest or argue with him when he said he couldn't feel me because, after all, I was a girl with no wolf, so how would I know.

"Well, it's of no use now...I will be leaving after all." I sighed again, lying flatly on the grass, staring at the sky and she followed suit, doing the same.

"Leaving to where?" I decided to tell her about the journey to the human world, and she didn't seem to like it at all, nor do I, but I needed someone to like me for who I am, and I know the humans will because I'm basically like them now.

"What did your mom say about it?" she asked, turning to my side to stare at me. "I told her about it before the massacre that happened last night, so this morning when we went to feed her, she brought it up and said I can go after tonight's final party, and if I still don't find my mate, then she wouldn't hold me back," I replied, and she took her lips in for a while.

Not to forget my sister didn't like my decisions for some reason and didn't also agree with what my mother said, it was like she hated the human world and didn't want me there or she just didn't want me to leave.

"Anyways guess who's showing up tonight," Sunny said with an excited voice, and it was clear she was trying to change the solemn subject.

 "Who?" My curiosity was pushing out to know who it was.

 "The great Alpha Kaiser," She said in a whisper, and my eyes bulged out of their sockets.

"What!!!"

"Yes, he was invited by the Alpha." Sunny seemed too excited, but why?.

Alpha Kaiser is a brutal man with a heart of stone. He's an enemy and a threat to many packs. His name alone sent deep fear down people's spines like it's doing to her.

I remembered back then in training when the warrior would tell us to train like our pack was about to be ambushed by him, and now he's coming to our pack for the final party. Why,

"You seem too excited" I said to her.

"I'm excited because rumors had it that he doesn't have a mate and maybe my bestie can be..."

"Don't even say it" I shut her up before she could finish it. Why would she imagine me being mated to a monster? He's a scarred and ugly looking man that's what they all said, though I haven't for once seen him but my mind tells me he will be similarly to the monster in looks. It's best I remain mateless than being with him...

 "Come on, the moon goddess might pair you both," she said, and my frown deepened.

"Pair me with a monster? How bad can my life be?" I scoffed and could see her rolling her eyes at me.

"He's no longer our enemy but an ally forgotten?"

 "Well I don't care, Sunny, and don't ever wish me to have such a mate." My words were final, and Sunny felt like beating me to it.

She opened her mouth to say something when her phone rang. She paused and answered it before placing it down. "I'm so sorry it was a call from my clingy mate." She smiled.

"Oh I would do anything to have a clingy mate." It would be so good having a mate who can't stay or live without me, always by my side, lovely, cute, and romantic, is all I wanted, all I ever asked for.

 "No don't say that, he's too clingy and r.o.u.g.h.." She stretched the last part, and I don't need any seer to explain for me to understand what she meant.

"That's why he's our gamma, he needs to be strong and rough," I laughed, and she joined me too. She moved closer to me and hugged me tightly.

 "Believe me, Emery, your mate will love you just like you imagined." She said in my ears, and I wished...I wished...I wish I could have one so it can't happen.

Emery's POV

 I stood in front of the mirror, starring at my reflection. The black gown I wore was beautiful, no doubt. It has a flattering sweetheart neckline that adds a touch of romance, with the off-shoulder sleeves that enhance the elegance, providing a touch of allure.

The fitted bodice transitions into a flowing A-line skirt, making it comfortable to move with the back opened down to my waist and revealing my flawless back skin.

 My long brunette hair was tied into a bun with some strands falling down and my curves just like before. Funny how me and my sister have the same body, but people find her more attractive the most.

 I stopped starring at my reflection and cascaded down the stairs as my legs took me to the road, and I entered a taxi heading to the pack house. My mother has been busy doing one thing or another ever since she came back, and I asked her to tag along with me, which she refused.

 For some odd reasons, she doesn't seem to go to any of these parties because she never likes it, but I think it's more than that. My mind couldn't help but wonder off to an earlier event.

After Sunny's mate came to pick her up, I left to the infirmary and learned that my mother had left already. Heading home, the first thing that welcomed me was my sister and her mate sucking on each other's lips like their lives depended on it.

 I looked around, but my mom was out of sight. They noticed my presence, and they turned at me as their eyes met mine. "Sorry," I said blatantly, walking past them when I heard his voice.

 "Emery?"

 I cranked my neck in his direction and saw him walking towards me. Three buttons of his shirt were down, revealing some part of his chiseled chest with bite kisses all over it. I forced myself to look down instead to stop myself from thinking too much.

 "Look at me!" It was more like a command, which I obeyed. He was taller than me, so I had to look up at me. He raised his hands and placed it on my left cheek, letting it stay for a minute as a frown found my face.

 What's he doing?

 "I guessed it's confirmed already," Beta James said, walking back, and I immediately understood what he did.

 He just touched me for confirmation, and I didn't feel the tingles or sparks, just anger. So I indeed felt my sisters feeling, cursed this twins bond.

 "I'm not your mate, and you aren't my mate, which is totally confirmed already; I apologize for the way I touched you," he said, grabbing Emilia back into his arms. I couldn't stare at them anymore, so I ran upstairs to bury myself in my bed, crying my eyes out.

 A big mockery I made of myself. Why did I feel it... The universe, the moon goddess, and my pack all hate me. Now I've lost hope in searching for my mate. I just don't want to be mated to anyone anymore.

I just want to go over the human's world and enjoy. I've always wondered what it's like to be there, how it's like to love a human... it's going to be lovely because I've heard how romantic they're.

 By this time tomorrow, I'm out of the pack for good. Going to start my life afresh, and when I'm married with kids, I will bring my family here to see my hometown.

 "Ma'am we're at the pack house," The driver said, and I smiled, paying him before getting down from the car.

 The packhouse was bustling with different cars everywhere. Today is going to be a big day, and I can't wait for it to end.

 "Emery?" Sunny's cheerful voice called me out as she ran towards me. Can she never not run?, I laughed.

 "I've been waiting outside for you, you look so so so so so so beautiful, baby," she screamed, forcing me to cover my ears.

 "You too, Sunny." She wore a short red dress that stopped below her thighs, revealing her goddess long legs. Her brown hair was combed neatly as it fell on her shoulders, covering her exposed back, not to mention her cute and pretty face. Gush, my friend is so beautiful, and Gamma Lucas will be so grateful to have her as his mate.

 "Let's go in, the place is just so full that I bet you're the last person coming in" She said making me laugh.

 We walked into the packhouse, and woah! The entire place is full, unlike yesterday. Gold Mist Pack is one of the most popular packs in North Central. We're populated compared to other minor packs and each year they keep renovating the packhouse to make it bigger for things like this.

 Everyone was dressed beautifully in different colored dresses, and I noticed that I'm the only one in a black dress. Was there a color of the day, and I wasn't informed?.

 Sunny led me to a table where the alpha's, beta's, gamma's, and their mates with other high-ranking wolves were seated. It was a large round table with chairs surrounding it as drinks and food were on it while they all chatted happily.

 I pulled her back, almost getting to where they were with a frown.

 "What are you doing?" I whispered, glancing at them briefly.

 "Trust me and just follow me," Sunny said as she pulled me closer.

 "Love," She called her mate, jumping on his arms as he wrapped his arms around her, kissing her softly.

 "Good evening, Alpha, Luna, Beta, and Gammas." I greeted the people I knew around the table with my head bowed slightly.

 "Emery." They called in respect.

 "Emery," Luna Alicia called me with a smile on her face. "Luna," I called back with a bow.

 "It's been long since I've seen you, how're you doing?"

 "I'm fine, Luna," It wasn't a surprise that the Luna was checking on me. This is who she was and how she has always been: lovely, sweet, and kind.

 "Emery, Meet Alpha Bruce of Silver Mist Pack, Alpha Lincoln, Beta Lawrence..." She started introducing them to me, and I immediately knew what she was doing-helping me find my mate.

 "It's an honor to meet you all, milords," I said, accepting their handshake one by one and getting to the last, my stomach tied up into a knot, and the same urge that forced me to say the word 'Mate' was begging to be set loose.

 I quickly pulled back in shock when a girl brushed past me, rushing to him.

"Mate!"

She shouted. My eyes narrowly moved to Emilia, who was at the table, and she had a frown on. She saw it too, she knows I felt it, I felt the bond, but it just wasn't mine but that of someone else.

 What's wrong with me? I removed my eyes from her, and it fell on Beta James, who was starring at me in some strange way, making my inner tighten.

 Geez Emery, what are you doing? They can smell your dirty arousal. Bowing at them again, I turned around and squired from their present without saying anything to Sunny.

Guess she brought me to the table to find my mate too. My legs found the dancing floor instead, but I wasn't going to dance. My dirty mind got me on this one, as my body wasn't relaxed.

 I needed to be touched, but why? I don't have a mate yet. Suddenly the music stopped as everywhere was silent, and I knew Alpha Roland was also about to say something. But nothing came, no talks, no sound, no music, nothing...nothing, just people around me in the hall.

 All of a sudden, the hairs in my body spranged up in acknowledgement to something as my heart raced loudly against my ribcage.

 My stomach tied into a deep knot as butterflies danced all around. Cold yet soft shivers ran down my spine as I felt the pull, a strong one, in-fact much stronger than anything.

I felt drawn to someone, and I immediately knew it wasn't from me, but still, I swept my head around in other to see who found their mate, but it landed on the unfamiliar face of a man in front of me.

 His side lip stretched slightly into a smile as we both stared at each other, and I swear....I swear I heard him mutter the word....

 "Mate"

 Holy heavens! My mate is here....!!

 But now no human world for me...fuck     

Emery's POV

 No, no no this can't be.

"Mate!" He called out again, drawing closer to me, and I stood rooted, staring at me. Am I dreaming or what?

"You're my mate?" I asked with a low voice. I'm not too sure that he's actually my mate, what if he was there when Emilia said that nonsense about me yesterday and he's just trying to tease me.

Even if he's pretending, one thing is for sure, my racing heart and anxiety. I feel so nervous and shy, like the ground should open up and swallow me.

He brought his hands close to me and brushed my cheeks sweetly, and I felt it, I felt the sparkles. I took two steps back away from him in shock. How's this even possible? I thought, I thought I was human? How am I feeling the sparkles?

 "You..."

I bit my lower lips, not knowing what to say, when I heard a low growl coming from him, forcing me to stare at his dark, pitch-black eyes. I opened my mouth to say something but was grabbed forcefully by someone shutting my mouth

"What are you doing, huh?" Came the voice of the rudest girl I have ever known... Cami.

She's Emilia's best friend and my second worst enemy. I do feel like she's the reason why my sister treats me the way she does, and I hate her for it.

"And who are you to question me?" I asked, staring back at her annoyingly.

 "Aren't you supposed to be home with your mother instead of playing around with boys?" She scoffed, eyeing the gentleman in front of me.

"And aren't you supposed to be with your mate instead of poking your nose into people's businesses, and oh, your mate is dead, I'm sorry"

 It feels so good getting back at her. Cami had her mate by 18, and she thought that was the end of the world for all of us, but unfortunately her mate lost his life on the battle field when she was 20, and ever since then she hasn't been with a mate.

She's a year older than us. "What did you say?" She asked, showing me the corner of her sharp canine, and I gulped hard but still kept my emotions neutral on the surface.

 "I said what you heard." We locked gazes at each other, and then she let out a melancholic laugh before bursting into tears holding her eyes.

 "Ahh!!" She shouted, and all of a sudden blood found its way down from her eyes. What the hell!!!

"Ahh!!" Everyone immediately gathered around us, and Cami crutched on the floor crying. Fuck, she's trying to manipulate them by acting all emotional and playing the victim.

"Cami, what happened to you?" Emilia rushed to her and kneeled in front of her, holding her tight.

"Oh, it hurts a lot, Emil," She cried out, and some people started casting their glance at me.

"Cami, come on, tell me...how did you hurt your eye?" Emilia pushed in.

 "What? I can't possibly hurt myself; it's all Emery's handwork." She wailed, and then I got everyone's full attention.

My palms immediately became sweaty as I rubbed them on my gown. The Alpha will punish me because he personally made a promise to Cami that he would be her supporter when her mate passed away and Cami almost died, but she survived, and her wolf hasn't been in full, her wolf is weak, but she's still a bit stronger than me anyway.

 "I didn't do any..."

"Oh will you shut it!" Emilia snapped at me.

"You know how fragile she's yet you're harming her!" Her face was squinted up in anger and I felt a pain in my chest.

My twin sister doesn't believe me, she's in support of what her best friend said. What if I had a wolf and lost it? Would everyone also show me pity like they show Cami and also care for me.

 "Believe me, I didn't harm her, why the hell are you lying, Cami??" I shouted, glaring hard at her.

 "Alpha you promised to come to my aid at all times, right?" Cami asked with a low voice, and I immediately glanced at the Alpha, who stared at me before returning his eyes back to Cami, and then he nodded.

 "Emery here is a threat, she has been the one inflicting all those scars on me, I'm so scared, I don't want to die by her hands...I want to die as Henry's mate, I miss him so much and..." She buried her face in Emilia's shoulders, crying loudly as everyone threw their angry glare at me, which I'm used to already, but today is different.

"Guards!!" Alpha Roland called after a while, and they immediately sprang forward.

"Seize Emery, I will tell you what will be her punishment later," He ordered and they immediately lunged at me.

"Touch her and kiss your lives goodbye!" A mighty voice said behind me, forcing everyone to stare at the man who has been watching silently all along.

 "Touch my mate, and I will kill you!"

"Alpha Kaiser," Alpha Roland called in disbelief, and I stumbled forward before starring at him.

No way!

Without knowing what to do, I turned around and took on my heels.
