Chapter 3

Belinda Munoz, Jaxton's mother, stormed into our house and pleaded with me, her voice choked with emotion. "Louisa, please just let him go. I only have one child. The Munoz family line cannot end here. Please, just let Jaxton go."

"Mom, what are you doing?" Jaxton quickly followed, pulling his mother up and giving me an apologetic look. He then dragged her away.

Somehow, Jaxton managed to convince his mother, and she no longer opposed our marriage.

He even came to me later, his voice firm and serious as he said, "I will only love you in this lifetime, you're the only one I need."

I really, really believed him at that moment.

But even the most passionate feelings could fade under the wear and tear of time. Our once-fierce love gradually settled into a quiet routine.

Still, I always thought we were deeply in love with each other.

Now, it just seemed ridiculous.

At 35, Jaxton had matured, and his career was thriving. His thoughts were no longer those of an 18-year-old.

He needed an heir, someone to inherit his vast wealth, a child of his own blood.

This idea, vague at first, took root in his heart.

He needed a child, and I couldn't give it to him.

So, when that woman called me, I felt a sense of inevitability.

Jaxton's infidelity wasn't without warning signs. I had noticed his strange behavior more than once, but I always comforted myself, convincing myself not to overthink it. I was just deluding myself.

Chapter 4

But the truth was, it was never me who was infertile.

It was Jaxton.

The doctor who examined us was my friend. When she found out about Jaxton's condition, she immediately came to me, asking delicately what I thought.

Shocked and hurt, I hesitated but finally asked her to keep it a secret and create a fake report.

I was so full of Jaxton at that time, fearing the blow he might suffer if he knew the truth. So, I took the blame for being unable to bear children.

Who would have thought that people's hearts were so unpredictable?

Wiping away the tears in the corner of my eyes, I silently began packing my things.

I might have a gentle and, frankly, timid personality, but when I made up my mind about something, I always followed through.

Jaxton had crossed my line, and I would never forgive someone who betrayed me.

The door was pounded so hard it seemed like it might break. I knew who it was, but I was in no mood to deal with her. I just continued packing.

"Open up! I know you're home! Louisa, you can't be so selfish. Jaxton finally has his own flesh and blood. If you have any conscience, you shouldn't object!"

Belinda had never liked me, and when she learned of my infertility, she was even more determined to get me away from her son.

Now that she had finally gotten her wish, she wouldn't allow me to ruin the birth of her grandson.

I had tolerated her bullying in the past because I loved Jaxton. But now that love was gone, what was she to me?

Dragging my suitcase, I opened the door and saw Belinda, her face contorted with anger. Before she could speak, I interrupted her.

"I will divorce Jaxton, but he's the one who's at fault. I won't settle for less than what's mine in the property division."

Chapter 5

Belinda clearly didn't expect me to respond like that. She stared at me for a moment before saying, "It doesn't have to be a divorce. What if it affects Jaxton's company? A man of his status, having a mistress is pretty normal. You're living off Jaxton; you shouldn't be so selfish."

I snorted, thinking, "She just doesn't get the pain until it hits her personally, huh? How can she say such shameless things?"

"First of all, I have a stake in Jaxton's company, too. I'm a shareholder and get my share every year. The money I spend is mine. Secondly, you might lack dignity and morality, but I have them.

"And lastly, I wish you and your grandson well!"

I had no intention of revealing the truth right now—at least not until after the divorce.

I wanted to see their reactions once they were emotionally invested and then hit them with the truth. That would be something to watch.

After sending Jaxton a text to meet at our old spot, I went to find my friend Rebecca Amore, the doctor who had done our pre-marital checkup.

I needed the original report from back then.

"What? That bastard! How low can he get? He's the one who's infertile, and his mother is just as terrible, taking what she wants and then throwing it away. She's got her mouth and ass mixed up!"

Rebecca vented, clearly furious and almost ready to take matters into her own hands against the Munoz family.

She continued, "Don't worry. I kept the original report just in case his mother caused trouble. I never imagined it would turn out like this with Jaxton."

After finally calming Rebecca down, I was about to leave when I saw Jaxton with the woman who was expecting their child.

The tenderness and happiness on his face were overwhelming. The woman's eyes were filled with love. They looked like a perfect pair.

"Louisa? What are you doing here?"
