I took the wedding ring off my finger and let it rest in my palm for a moment before setting it down. Then I canceled the dinner booking and the twelve-person table reservation. The entire night, the celebration, gone in an instant.

My fingers moved to the email inbox and pulled up the message from Julian that had arrived three months ago. The European Design Fellowship Final Offer sat there, untouched. I'd turned it down before, saying Lucas needed stability and Cross Group couldn't afford to lose me. But tonight something shifted. I opened the full details, read every line of the fellowship and the generous offer attached to it, and typed I accept. I hit send without letting myself think twice.

I reserved the first flight to London for the morning, then exited the family group chat completely, severing the connection.
