Chapter 6

Destiny wiped away my tears and said, "Ayah, you've seen it for yourself. He actually loves his family and his reputation more. He never truly put you first."

I pressed my lips together and said nothing.

Destiny spoke earnestly, "A man like that isn't worth it. Ayah, you can't be so lovestruck."

I was indeed a bit of a lovestruck fool.

And a sucker for good looks.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have fallen for James, the most handsome guy in school, at first sight and pursued him so passionately after just one meeting.

Looking back now, I realize how much effort I put into chasing James—throwing away all my pride, doing all sorts of humiliating things.

Later, I felt lucky that I succeeded, managing to win him over, so no one could laugh at me.

James didn't show up at my door until the next day.

I slept for a full day and night, and by noon the next day, when I finally got hungry and opened my door, there he was, sitting on the couch looking utterly exhausted.

He was still wearing the groom's suit from the day before.

"James's been here for a while. You two should have a good talk."

My parents willingly gave us space.

I went to the kitchen to find something to eat, and James followed, rolling up his sleeves as if to make me some noodles.

"You haven't eaten in a few meals, right? Let me cook you some noodles."

If this had been before, I would've wrapped my arms around James' waist, playfully calling him "my wonderful husband," and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his chin.

But now, I coldly walked out of the kitchen.

"Just go. There's nothing to talk about."

Even though I said that, deep down I still hoped James would explain things well and coax me.

After all, he had always treated me really well, and he was excellent in every way.

If we really broke up, I wouldn't be able to let him go.

James sighed, placing the noodles in front of me before speaking, "Ayah, please calm down, okay? Yesterday, I gave Junior a good scolding. It won't happen again. I also made him apologize to Destiny, and she forgave him. Ayah, I checked, and three days from now is still a good day. Can we continue with our wedding?"

I wavered a little.
