Chapter 3

Suddenly, Cathy stood up in agitation and pointed at me. “Chloe, how can you be so selfish?

“The colleagues and I just want to share a bit of your luck, but you make it look like we’re taking advantage of you!

“You can just treat us to a cheap meal to show your sincerity. Did you think we’re greedy enough to ask you for a lavish feast?

“Honestly, you should be honored that you’re lucky to be able to win and treat us to a meal!”

That sounded nice and all. In the past, they had said the same thing, but when I paid the bill in the end, I had spent $56,000.

Deducting $6,000 from the prize, I had to pay an extra $50,000 by myself. I even lost my life in the end.

With the painful experience of my past, I naturally could not trust Cathy’s sweet words.

When I thought about it, I could not wait to tear Cathy’s pretentious face into pieces.

I looked at Cathy coldly. “I can’t accept this. I don’t want the prize anymore. I’ll just give it to you. Can’t I just let you be the boss today?”

Cathy’s expression instantly changed. She looked shocked and immediately waved her hand to reject it.

“It’s fate that you got picked twice!

“If I take away the prize that belongs to you, wouldn’t that be like tempting fate? That’d be bad news for me, wouldn’t it?”

At the same time, Vincent chimed in.

He gloomily whispered to me, “Chloe, this is a Christmas gathering. It’s our last gathering of the year. Aren’t you ruining the mood?

“If you really don’t want to, I won’t force you. But your behavior’s ruining company unity, and it will affect your promotion rating.”

In the past, I was pressured into agreeing when Vincent had threatened me similarly.

But I knew how to weigh the importance of my job and my life.

I looked at Vincent’s wicked face. The words of resignation were already on the tip of my tongue, but I swallowed them down.

I smiled faintly. “Alright, Vincent. I’ll handle the expense tonight!”

Only then did Vincent smile in satisfaction. “You’re indeed an outstanding employee! You’re really smart. In the second half of the year, it’ll be your turn to take over the position of the manager of the Sales Department.”

Vincent was painting a grand, empty picture, and Cathy excitedly rushed forward and hugged me.

“Chloe, you’re the kindest and most generous person I ever met.

“Let our colleagues and I share a bit of your luck so that we can make more profits for the company this year!

“Aren’t I right, Vincent?”

The two of them looked at each other affectionately, and Vincent took advantage of the moment, right there in front of everyone.

I did not say a word. I just quietly watched everything that happened.

At this time, I had a fantastic plan for revenge.

“Vincent, is it fine that a friend of mine wants to attend our party?”

Vincent was in the mood. “It’s your treat tonight, so you’re free to invite anyone! It’s fine even if you invite not just one but ten people!”

Cathy chimed in, “Who’s the friend? Do we know this friend?”

I smiled faintly. “You’ll know when she’s here.”

After I said that, I texted the friend whom I wanted to invite.

Cathy and everyone in the company knew her.

I looked at the time on my phone. “It’s late. Shall we go?”

My boss pretended to be considerate. “I already booked the place. Let’s go, it’s definitely worth it!”

I did not hesitate. “Thank you for your help, Vincent.”

Chapter 4

Although I was the one treating them, I did not even get a chance to take a look at the menu when we reached the restaurant before the waiter started to serve the food.

Before I could say anything, Cathy smiled and said, “Chloe, look how considerate Vincent is! He worries that we would splurge, so he ordered the food in advance!”

Vincent patted his chest. “I’m a regular customer here. I promise that the food here is tasty and affordable!”

‘Tasty and affordable?’ I thought.

I looked at the lobsters and crabs on the table. I was afraid that this would cost around a few thousand dollars. My lips twitched.

Cathy called the waiter over again.

“Excuse me, please serve us a few bottles of good wine. It’s Christmas today. We should celebrate!”

She did not forget to emphasize as she said, “The more expensive, the better! We have the money!”

Cathy behaved as though she were the one who was treating everyone to a meal.

Although I was the one who was paying, I did not stop her.

It was only after Cathy finished ordering that she remembered that I was still there.

She looked at me and smiled awkwardly. “Chloe, you’re such a generous person! You don’t mind, do you?”

I smiled at her meaningfully. “Of course not. I want to thank you for being so considerate to me! You’re really my best friend!”

Cathy did not understand the meaning behind my words. “It’s the least I can do.”

I asked magnanimously, “Is this food enough? If not, please order more! Please don’t hold yourself back!”

When Vincent and Cathy saw me being so generous, they looked at each other in disbelief.

“It’s more than enough.

“Chloe, why have you suddenly become so generous?”

I smiled. “It’s the prize money I got from the company, so I should at least treat you to a nice meal.”

Right after I said that, a waitress served the wine.

I immediately told her to get Cathy and Vincent a full glass of wine each.

Meanwhile, I poured some juice into my glass.

I stood up. “Dear colleagues, first, I would like to thank my best friend and Vincent for their support. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to treat you all. Let’s toast to them.”

Cathy looked at the juice in my glass. She seemed unhappy.

“Chloe, you got wine for Vincent and me, but you’re only drinking juice. Are you disrespecting Vincent?”

I looked at her with a dark face. “Today, the meal is on me. Who are you to comment on what I drink?”

Cathy fell silent unhappily, and Vincent motioned to her. “Chloe’s got a point. Let’s have some juice to settle our stomachs first.”

Although I dodged it for the moment, it was not long before Cathy and Vincent teamed up with other colleagues to take turns keeping my glass full.

When the two of them saw that I was about to get drunk, they dragged me to pay the bill.

“Hello, your total comes to fifty-six thousand.”

“Why is it so expensive?” I complained.

Cathy chuckled. “It’s not expensive at all. You spent some money, but you’ve gained our colleagues’ gratitude, Vincent’s approval, and my respect.

“It’s like killing three birds with one stone!”

As she said that, she took my phone out for me. “Chloe, make your payment now.”

It was only then that Vincent suddenly remembered something. “Chloe, didn’t you say your friend’s coming? Why…”

Before he even finished his sentence, a stunning figure, someone everyone seemed to recognize, appeared at the entrance of the restaurant.

I smiled faintly. “Isn’t she here already?”

When they saw the person, Vincent and Cathy looked at each other in disbelief. They could not hide how flustered they felt.
