Chapter 3

Henry and Jason rushed to smooth things over.

Ruby sneered and grabbed Walter's hand.

"The most useless woman would threaten a man with divorce," she said in a sarcastic tone.

Walter couldn't bear to lose face and frowned at me.

"Coral, have I spoiled you too much by being too nice to you? Have you forgotten the days when you used to cry and beg me not to divorce you?"

I picked up my phone and left without saying a word.

I would no longer cry and beg him.

When Ruby first returned from abroad, I had many arguments with Walter because of their excessively amorous relationship.

Every time, Walter would say, "If you can't stand it, get a divorce!"

At that time, I was still lost in the false love, apologizing and making amends to Walter, begging for his forgiveness.

I even knelt down at the door of my own home.

I cried bitterly in the silent and lonely night.

But Walter treated my tolerance and love as a reason to trample on me.

This time, I would no longer bow my head.

I went back home and packed my belongings, moving into the small apartment I bought before my marriage.

I bought it with my own savings.

At the time, Walter argued with me when he knew I bought the apartment.

"A fool would buy an apartment. It's small and remote, and it's embarrassing. You might as well use the money to buy a car, which would make me look good when I drive it around."

Later, my parents gave me a top-of-the-line luxury car, and Walter was finally satisfied.

I was glad that I did not listen to Walter's persuasion at the time.

This small apartment was my sanctuary.

And that luxury car had become Ruby's exclusive vehicle.

After all this, it was already dawn.

I was wide awake, so I went to print a divorce agreement.

When I got home, I saw Walter standing at the door.

I was a bit surprised, as this was the first time he had come to find me on his own.

"Last night, I may have said something too harsh, but you really shouldn't have treated my friend that way. Go apologize to Ruby, and we'll call it a day."

When I left yesterday, I heard Ruby say, "The daughter of a nouveau riche is just a spoiled brat. It's a curse to marry a woman like that."

Walter described me to outsiders as a paranoid and jealous woman who spent her days fighting over trivial things.

But the truth was that it was always Walter who was throwing a fit in this marriage.

He only showed a polite and gentle side to outsiders.

At home, he was picky and difficult to please.

Adding garlic to a dish would make him furious with me, scolding me for being useless and throwing the plate.

"It's never been my fault to apologize."

I handed Walter the divorce papers and walked back to my room, leaving him behind.

Walter followed me closely, wrapping his arms around me from behind.

"Don't be angry anymore. I'll apologize if you want me to," he said.

His hands roamed over my body. "I know I've neglected you lately, and you're angry. I promise to have a child with you, okay?"

I pushed him away and slapped him hard.

"Don't touch me. It's disgusting!"

Walter's face turned red on one side quickly.

Anger appeared in his eyes.

But before he could get angry, I fainted.

Chapter 4

When I woke up again, I was in the hospital.

Walter was sitting by my bed, looking concerned.

"Coral, we can argue, but can you please not take your body as a form of punishment against me? You had a high fever and fainted, and you really scared me."

"Don't you know why I have a fever?"

Who was it that made me get soaked in the rain and run around outside all night?

Who said he would take me to the hospital, but then went out drinking with friends?

Walter looked a bit guilty as he turned away from me.

"Forget about that. Come and eat something. I made seafood porridge for you."

Seafood porridge without seafood.

Only a few scattered grains of rice were left.

It looked like leftover porridge, and it made me feel nauseous just looking at it.

Just then, Ruby walked in.

"Walter, your porridge tastes great! But I'm not full yet. Can you go downstairs with me to eat some more?"

Walter looked at me hesitantly.

"Go ahead," I said, throwing the porridge into the trash bin.

"Ruby has a weak stomach..." Walter looked a bit embarrassed as he tried to explain.

But Ruby grabbed Walter's arm and kept urging him.

Walter hesitated for a moment, looked at me, and said, "I'll be back soon. I'll bring you delicious food." And he left in a hurry.

I ordered takeout for myself. After I had an injection, I went to the doctor to get some medicine.

The doctor looked at me for a few seconds before he spoke. "Is the person who was here earlier your husband?"

"Ex-husband," I replied.

"Oh, that's good. I was wondering about that. When you were in a coma, he and that woman in a short skirt were hugging and kissing in the corridor, treating the hospital like a hotel."

He handed me both the prescription and his phone.

"Please leave your contact information. If you feel unwell, you can contact me anytime."

I looked at the expectation in his eyes and nodded in understanding.

After returning home, I saw a message from Walter.

[There is an emergency at the company, so I can't accompany you. If you don't feel well, just message me and I'll come see you right away.]

It sounded nice.

I remember once I had acute gastroenteritis and was in agonizing pain.

But Walter complained that I was disturbing his sleep and went to the study with a blanket.

"If you don't feel well, go see a doctor. What's the point of telling me? I can't cure you!"

So this time, feeling upset and depressed, I contacted the new doctor I had just met.

We went for coffee and shopping together.

My mood improved a lot.

But when I got home, I was stunned.

The small apartment was filled with people.

Both our parents, Walter, and Ruby were all looking at me.

Walter was looking at the divorce agreement with reddened eyes.

Ruby was folding her arms and looking at me.

"I've never seen a woman as shameless as you. Walter has been so good to you, and you still cheated on him with other men," Ruby said.

My mother held the photo of me and the doctor going out.

"What's going on? Walter said you had an affair during your marriage and wanted a divorce. Haven't you two always had a good relationship?"

I never thought Walter would be so vile.

Walter's mother slapped the table hard. "Divorce! We don't want such an unfaithful woman in our family. No wonder you haven't been able to have a child for years. In my opinion, it's because you're not modest and have ruined your body," she said.

A bunch of people started talking, heaping all sorts of malice and obscene words on me.

I looked at Walter and restrained my anger.

"Walter, don't twist the truth. Do you think I don't know what you did in private?

"I was planning to give you some face, but since you have no shame, I won't be polite."

I said, taking a box out of the bedroom.

On the day of moving, I discovered a secret that shocked me more than Walter's affair.

I endured silently, just waiting for the right opportunity.

Now, the opportunity had come.
