Chapter 5

The next morning, Summer was deep in sleep as the alarm kept beeping. The stranger stood at the door entrance, looking at her with his arms folded, Sophy next to him watching intently. He sighed, rolling his head as he gazed at the sleeping lady.

"Does she always sleep late like this?" he asked, talking to Sophy, who just meowed.

He moved toward Summer's bed and scanned the room, his eyes locking onto a hand dryer on the table in front of the mirror. He picked it up and plugged it in, then moved to Summer, taking off the blanket that covered her body.

As he turned on the hand dryer, directing the warm air at her skin, she murmured, starting to stir. He increased the heat, and Summer's eyes flew open as she sat upright, looking disoriented. Her hair was messy, and she raised her face to the stranger, realization dawning on her.

She let out a scream and covered herself with the blanket. He smirked, placing the hand dryer back where it belonged.

"Don't you know you have work to go to?" he asked, his voice low and teasing. Summer threw off the blanket and glared at him.

"What are you doing in my room?" she demanded, her voice angry. "You have no right to be here," she added.

He smirked, leaning closer to her. Their faces were inches apart, and Summer gulped nervously, reeling her face backward.

"If I were you right now, I would find my way to the hospital. Do you know what the time is?" he asked, pushing backward with a smirk.

"Get out of my room," she said, standing up and pushing him out. She shut the door behind him. "How dare he," she grunted, fuming. She headed to the bathroom to freshen up, still seething with annoyance.

Some minutes later, Summer emerged dressed in her uniform, her eyes narrowing as she saw him seated on the couch with Sophy beside him. He was munching on chips, his legs casually rested on the table.

"I'm leaving. Don't ever go to my room without my consent," She said firmly, her voice unwavering.

"Don't bother, I'll be gone before you return," he said.

She didn't respond, turning on her heel and leaving without another word. As soon as she was gone, the stranger picked up the phone next to him and dialed a number. The phone rang several times before it was answered.

"Come pick me up," he said, his voice stern and commanding. He listened for a moment before hanging up the phone.

~~Hospital ~~

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Summer and Jane walked out of the canteen, each holding a cup of warm coffee. They strolled down the corridor, chatting quietly.

"So, he said he'll be gone before you come back?" Jane asked.

"Yes, I just wish I never have to see him again before I get home," .

"Are you sure you don't want to see him again?"

"Why would I want to see him? He's so ungrateful. He didn't even say thank you for saving his life,"

"I guess he has another way of showing gratitude,"

"I wish," she rolled her eyes good-naturedly, shaking her head as they entered their office.

Miguel's return home was met with overwhelming joy from his family. His mother, Mrs. Martha, beamed with happiness as she hugged him tightly, tears of relief streaming down her face. The rest of the family, including his best friend Nelson, gathered around, eager to catch up.

A delicious meal had been prepared to celebrate Miguel's return, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter and chatter.

"I'm so happy you're back," Mrs. Martha said, smiling.

"Where were you? What happened to you?"Nelson asked.

"We were attacked on our way."

The room fell silent, with everyone exchanging surprised glances.

"I knew it! I knew something like that happened," Emily, one of the girls, exclaimed.

"Where you hurt?" Andy asked.

"Yeah, but I managed to survive," he said, his tone nonchalant as he lifted his shirt, revealing the bandage on his stomach.

The family gasped in unison, their faces pale.

"Oh my gosh, this is serious, Uncle," Annabel, the second girl, said.

"It's not to worry about. I got a good doctor who helped me out."

"Do you know who attacked you?"Grandpa asked.

"Not yet," Miguel replied.

"What about your men? Are they okay?"Nelson inquired.

"Yes, luckily they weren't badly injured. They're with their families now. I told them to come back to work when they're fully recovered," Miguel said.

"Thank heaven, that's a relief."Mrs. Martha breathed a sigh of relief.

"It's a good thing you all survived the attack."Clara, Miguel's sister, added,

"No more worry."Albert, Clara's husband, chimed in,

"Exactly, my grandson is back."Grandpa smiled,

"So, which hospital were you rushed to? Yours?"Andy asked.

"No". He smirked, his eyes distant, and Nelson stared at him, trying to understand his expression.

The celebration continued, with the family enjoying each other's company.

*Summer apartment*

Summer pulled into the driveway, still engrossed in her phone call. As she opened the door, she was met with a shocking surprise: her ex-boyfriend Peter was seated on the couch, his leg crossed and a smug smile on his face. She quickly ended the call, her eyes narrowing in anger.

"Peter!" she exclaimed.

Peter stood up, walking towards her with open arms.

"Come here, baby," he said, trying to hug her and she pushed him off, her anger evident.

"How dare you! How did you find your way in here?" she demanded.

Peter chuckled, holding up her spare keys. "Remember I still have these. It's been ages, don't you miss me?"

"In your wildest dreams. Please leave before I call the cops on you," she warned and he was unmoved.

"Oh, come on Summer, you're still my girlfriend. You can't just dump me like that. I know I messed up, but I'm back to make it right. Please, babe, give me another chance."

Summer's resistance grew as Peter tried to hold her.

"Don't, Peter! We're done. Please leave my house," she said firmly.

"Are you really serious about this?"

"Yes, leave!" She yelled, and he rushed to her and grabbed her hands and started struggling to free herself from his grasp."Let me go!".She shouted, trying to push him away.

"Please, don't do this to me, all I want is a second chance, please".He begged, trying to hug her.

"Let me go!".

Just as it seemed like Peter wouldn't let go, the door burst open and Jane's angry face appeared.

"Get away from her!" she yelled, rushing towards Peter and hitting him hard with her handbag.

"You scumbag!" she spat, continuing to hit him until he couldn't take it anymore and ran out the door. "Don't you ever come back here!" She yelled after him, shutting the door behind.

Summer collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. Jane rushed to console her, pulling her into a warm hug.

Chapter 6

A month had passed since Summer's encounters with the stranger and her ex, and she was still reeling from the experience. The memory of the stranger's intense gaze and her ex's unwelcome return lingered, making her wonder if she'd ever be able to shake them off.

But as time went on, Summer's life began to return to normal. She went about her routine, working at the hospital and returning home, trying to put the past behind her. Yet, she couldn't help but think about the stranger, wondering why he had left without a word.

At the hospital canteen, Summer and Jane sat among a crowd of doctors and nurses chatting and laughing. Jane turned to Summer

"Do you think he'll come back?" Jena asked,

"Who?" She replied, confused.

"The handsome stranger, of course," Jane said with a grin.

"Jane, I don't care. I've been living fine since month. I don't want to ever see him again."

"Oh, really? Don't be surprised if he comes back to see you at home."

"Please don't pray that prayer for me. I don't want to ever see him, not now, not ever!"

Jane rolled her eyes good-naturedly, chuckling at Summer's reaction.

________

A man in his late fifties sat on his couch, smoking in the dark room, surrounded by his men. One of his men entered, bowing and presenting a brown envelope. The man took it, opened it, and pulled out a photo of Summer with the stranger she had helped.

The photos showed Summer helping the stranger out of her car and into the room, as well as other moments of their interaction.

"She's a doctor," the man said, his voice low and menacing.

"Yes, boss," his man replied and The man smiled evilly.

"I see she's really close to him. You know what to do. Go get information from her. I don't know how you do it, but she has a secret with him that we don't know."

The man bowed and left.

***********

Two days later, Summer returned home from a stressful shift, engrossed in a phone call with her parents.

"Yes, Mom, I just got home," she said tiredly on the phone as she brought out her keys to open her apartment. "Mom, I will hang up, love you," she said before hanging up the call.

As she approached her door, she noticed it was unlocked, which surprised her. She wondered if she had forgotten to lock it.

Then she heard her cat meowing louder. She quickly opened the door and was met with a great shock: a man was seated on her couch with Sophy beside him, pointing a gun at her.

"Welcome home," he said with a smirk.

"Who are you? What do you want?"She asked, her eyes widened in fear.

"Is this how you welcome a visitor? Come here." Summer hesitated, and the man rushed to her, grabbing her hand. "When I speak, you obey," he spat, aiming the gun at her head. "Where is he?"The man's grip tightened.

"Who are you talking about? Let me go!" She struggled hard with him, her eyes wide with fear. She stumbled on his foot, causing him to scream in pain and release her.

She tried to run, but he quickly grabbed her hair from behind and pulled her back, holding her neck. Summer struggled, crying out in pain.

"Let me go, you're choking me!"

"You won't get away this easy. If you don't tell me where Miguel is and the secret you know about him, I'll end your life here."

"Please let me go, I don't know what you're talking about."

"I will make you talk." He pushed her hard onto the couch, smirking as he started to undo his pants while still aiming the gun at her.

Summer's eyes widened in horror as he undid his pants, revealing his boxers. He bounced on her, and she struggled, screaming for help. She managed to push him off and stumbled towards the door.

As she turned to open it, a hand covered her mouth from behind, and she heard multiple gunshots fired at the man who had attacked her. The attacker fell dead in front of her.

It turn out it was Miguel that covered her mouth, and he shot the man with precision, saving Summer from further harm. Fear overwhelmed her, and she collapsed due to the horror scene.

Miguel scooped her into his arms and walked away, getting into his car and ordering his men to clear up the mess. As he drove off with Summer, she remained unconscious, unaware of what had just transpired.

~~Miguel mansion~~

Miguel carried her, who was still unconscious, into his mansion. His family was confused to see him rushing upstairs with an unfamiliar lady in his arms. They stood up and followed him behind.

Miguel's master bedroom was a sprawling oasis of luxury, designed with exclusivity in mind. The room was adorned with rich, dark wood accents and plush furnishings in a soothing neutral color palette. A majestic four-poster bed, draped in sumptuous fabrics, dominated the space.

The oversized master bed, where he gently laid Summer, was dressed in crisp, high-thread-count linens and plush pillows. The bed's headboard was intricately carved with elegant patterns, adding a touch of sophistication.

The room's walls were adorned with original artwork, and floor-to-ceiling windows offered breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. A comfortable sitting area, complete with a chaise lounge and a reading nook, invited relaxation.

The bathroom was a spa-like retreat, featuring a freestanding tub, a walk-in shower with multiple jets, and a double vanity with a stunning stone countertop. The walls were clad in marble, and the floors were made of warm, honey-colored wood.

A separate water closet provided additional privacy, and a large mirror above the vanity added a touch of glamour. The bathroom was equipped with the latest technology, including heated floors, a steam shower, and a sound system that could be controlled remotely.

The master bedroom and bathroom were designed to provide a serene and indulgent escape, perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. As Summer lay on the bed, she was surrounded by the epitome of luxury and comfort. Miguel's family gathered outside the room, curious about the unconscious woman and the circumstances that had brought her to their home.

After laying Summer on the bed, Miguel came out to face the curious gazes of his family.

"Son, what's going on?" Mrs. Martha asked.

"What happened to her?" Grandpa added.

Miguel sighed and moved to the living room, his family following closely behind.

"Tell us, who is she? You've never brought a woman into this house, let alone to your room," Andy said, curiously.

"Well, she's the doctor who helped me when I was attacked."

His family was taken aback, their faces reflecting their surprise.

"What? She's a doctor?" Mrs. Martha's eyes widened in amazement.

"Wow, this is amazing."Annabelle chimed in.

"Why is she unconscious?"Grandpa asked.

"She was attacked in her house, but luckily, I was there to save her in time."

"Oh my, do you know who they are?"Emily said.

"Roberto's men."

"That old føøl will never learn."Annabelle said.

"Why is he sending his men to attack her? Did she do something to him?"Mrs. Martha asked.

"I guess he found out that she was the one who saved me."

"Why is he always attacking people he's seen with you? Doesn't he know everyone knows how you made your money?"Andy said.

"Trying to find the secret behind my success."

"That man is a psycho!" Emily said.

The family sighed in unison, their faces reflecting their shared frustration.

Some minutes later, Miguel ordered the cook to prepare a delicious meal for his guest when she woke up. The cook obeyed, and the dining table was lavishly set with mouth-watering dishes. His family sat around the dining room, amazed by the spread.

"Wow, are we holding a feast or what?" Emily asked, her eyes wide with wonder.

"Son, will she like the food?" Grandpa asked.

"Yes, she's not a picky type."he said and Everyone was amused by his response.

"Really? How do you know? It seems you've known her for a long time," Andy teased, Miguel scoffed.

Just then, the door burst open, revealing Nelson and Clara. Their faces were filled with excitement as they rushed to the dining table. Everyone stared at the two of them, confused.

"I heard bro brought a lady home," Clara said, grinning.

"Is that true, bro? You brought in a lady? Who is she?" Nelson asked, his eyes fixed on Miguel.

"How do you two know he brought in a lady?" Mrs. Martha asked, her brow raised.

"I did, I texted them," Andy said.

"Andy, who is she? Do you know her?" Clara asked curiously.

"No, but bro claims she's a doctor who treated him when he was attacked. Believe me, sis, that lady is an epitome of beauty," Andy said. Miguel sighed tiredly at them.

"Well, this should call for a celebration. Someone is already giving in for true love," Nelson said, amusedly.

"I'm not giving in for love. She's not my type. I'm just returning the favor," Miguel replied.

"Really? A favor that she's sleeping in your bed now," Emily teased.

"Exactly, you hate bringing women into this house, not alone your bedroom. Now a strange woman is lying there comfortably," Annabel said. Clara gasped.

"The lady is in his bedroom?" she asked, her eyes wide with surprise. They nodded. "Wow, bro, you still haven't told us the truth," Clara said, her voice filled with amusement. Miguel sighed tiredly at them.

Chapter 7

Summer's eyes fluttered open, and she sat upright on the bed, her mind foggy. She groaned quietly, the memories came flooding back, and her eyes widened in panic. She took in her unfamiliar surroundings, her gaze darting around the room in desperation.

She quickly scanned her body, relief washing over her when she realized she was intact and untouched. But her relief was short-lived, as she sprang out of bed and stumbled around the room, her confusion and fear escalating.

"What's going on here? Why am I here? Was I kidnapped and brought here?" she gasped, her voice trembling with terror. "Oh no," she whispered, her eyes welling up with tears. She rushed to the door and started banging on it, screaming for help at the top of her lungs. "Let me out! Help!"

Her cries echoed through the hallway, and Miguel, who was in the living room with his family, heard her frantic screams. He rushed to the door, followed by his family, and flung it open. Summer fell to her knees, wrapping her arms around his legs and sobbing uncontrollably.

"Please, let me go! I didn't do anything wrong. Please don't kill me. I don't know the person you're talking about. I'm just a harmless doctor who means no harm. Please let me go, I beg you."

Her words tumbled out in a desperate rush, her body shaking with fear. Miguel's expression softened slightly as he looked down at her, taken aback by her sudden action.

"What do you think you're doing?".He asked, and she recognized the voice and loosened the grip on his leg.

As she looked up and saw his face, her eyes widened in shock, and she pulled away quickly, reeling backward.

"Y...you," she stuttered.

The family watched the scene unfold.

"Well, I guess this is not going to end well," Andy whispered to the others.

"She's not quite used to big bro, she looks frightened to see him," Clara said, her voice low.

"Miguel must have scared her," Nelson added.

"Are you okay?" Miguel asked, his eyes locked on Summer's face. She was disoriented, her gaze darting around the floor as if searching for answers.

Her mind seemed to be racing, and she didn't seem to notice the other family members observing from behind them.

"Am I dreaming?... No, I'm not, I just woke up," she muttered, lost in thought.

Miguel squatted in front of her, closing the gap between them.

"Summer, Summer," he called softly, trying to snap her out of her trance. As realization dawned on her, she looked up at him, her eyes wide with fear. "Are you okay?" he asked again.

Summer quickly pushed him away.

"Get away from me!" she yelled, scrambling to her feet. Her questions tumbled out in a frantic rush. "You... why are you here? What am I doing here? How did I get here? Where on earth am I? Who are you?"

Miguel tried to calm her down, but she was beyond consolation.

"What's going on? Just a moment ago, I thought I'd never see you again. You came... Did you send that guy to attack me? Did you have me kidnapped and brought to this godforsaken place? Who the fuck are you!"

Her anger and fear boiled over, and Miguel's expression remained calm, though his eyes betrayed a hint of concern.

"Can you just calm down and listen?" he asked, but Summer was beyond reason.

"Why will I calm down and listen to you...?".Her words trailed off as a sudden realization dawned on her. "Y...you were the one who shot him, it was you, right?" she asked, her voice shaking. "You killed someone, you shot him right there in front of me," she accused, her eyes welling up with tears.

She grabbed his shirt and started raining punches on him, sobbing uncontrollably. Miguel sighed, knowing her tiny fists wouldn't hurt him.

"You're a murderer! You killed him," she cried. He grabbed her shoulders, holding her in place.

"Pull yourself together and let me talk," he said firmly.

"He's right, let him explain everything to you."Mrs Martha said politely from behind.

Summer noticed their presence. She pulled away from Miguel, staring at them, Mrs Martha move to her and placed a warm arm around her shoulder.

"Come, child, you must be tired and hungry. You should eat, and everything will be fine".

As Mrs. Martha led Summer away, and the rest follow, Nelson turned to Miguel.

"She doesn't know who you are, right?" he asked, and Miguel sighed tiredly, anticipating a long and complicated explanation.

Everyone sat down in the living room, trying to make the surroundings comfortable for Summer. Nelson and Miguel joined the gathering, taking their seats.

"Go on, child, eat," Grandpa said, his voice warm and encouraging.

"I'm not hungry, I want to go home," Summer said sadly, her gaze avoiding theirs.

"You can't go, it's risky out there," Miguel said firmly, his eyes locked on hers.

"Why? Am I trapped here? Who the heck are you to tell me what to do?" Summer spat.

The family exchanged surprised glances, their eyebrows raised in astonishment. No one had ever spoken to Miguel like that before, and yet, he remained calm. Andy's eyes widened in shock, while Clara's mouth dropped open.

"Wow, she's got spirit," Nelson whispered.

Miguel's calm demeanor was unexpected, and the family couldn't help but stare at him in wonder.

"It's for your safety, we're just trying to protect you." Clara said smiling.

Summer's gaze returned to everyone at the table, her expression confused and wary.

"My big bro is just trying to protect you," Annabelle explained gently.

"Bro?" Summer asked, confusedly.

"Yes, he's our big bro, and we're his siblings," Emily said, her smile bright.

"I'm Andy, his younger brother," Andy added.

"And I'm Clara, his younger sister,"

"I'm his mother, you can call me Ma Martha," Mrs. Martha said, her eyes warm and inviting.

"I'm his grandpa,"

"I'm Nelson, a family friend and a best friend to him,"

Everyone introduced themselves politely, and Summer stared, unsure how to respond, her eyes darting from one face to another.

"I'm Miguel, Miguel Salvatore," Miguel said, his eyes locked on hers, "These are my family, and this place you're in is my house," he added, his gaze never leaving hers.

"Yeah, there's nothing to be afraid of, we mean no harm," Mrs. Martha reassured her.

"My grandson told us you were the one who saved him. We owe you a big thank you," Grandpa said, his eyes shining with gratitude.

"Do you want to tell us your name?" Clara asked.

Just as Summer was about to respond, she heard the cry of her cat. Her head snapped up, and her eyes caught sight of a man in a bodyguard suit holding the cat gently in his arms.

"Sophy!" she cried out, rushing to carry her cat out of the man's arms and hug her warmly, sobbing with joy. "I'm so happy you're alive," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"Wow, what a moment," Emily said, as everyone watched in delight at the reunion.

Miguel stood up and walked away with his men who had brought in the cat small smile playing on his lips.

After some minutes, Summer borrowed Clara's cell phone to make a quick call. She excused herself to the veranda and dialed Jane's number. After two rings, Jane picked up.

"Hello, Jane," Summer said, her voice a bit shaky.

"Hello, Summer, is that you?" Jane asked from the other end of the phone, her voice filled with concern and a hint of panic.

"Yes, it's me,"

"What the heck happened? I stopped by your apartment, it was locked, and your cell phone wasn't going through either. I was worried sick about you!"

"I'm sorry, something came up. Can you come pick me up right now? I'll send you the location,"

"Sure, you have a lot of explaining to do, young lady. I'll be there soon," Jane said, her tone playful but firm.

They hung up, and Summer sighed, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She turned to go inside when she was startled by Miguel standing behind her, his arms crossed and his piercing eyes devouring her.

"Are you a ghost or something? Do you always stalk people like that?" She said, her voice unfriendly.

"You still want to go after my warning?" Miguel asked.

"And you think this is a better place for me to stay? Listen, I don't even know you that well or what kind of trouble you're involved with, but the last thing I'll do is getting myself involved with you... I agree you have a nice and lovely family, but with you involved, I just can't," She said rudely, and turn to leave. Miguel blocked her path, his eyes locked on hers

"Are you afraid of me? Do you think I'll hurt you?" he asked, And Summer rolled her eyes.

"I'm not afraid of you, what I'm afraid of is what you're involved with. I don't care to know...Let this end here, I don't want to be seen with you, my life is now a life-threatening because you came in. I was only being a good doctor that saves lives... I know the attack at my house is involved with you, and I'm not going to stick around to find out what else you're capable of. I still love my life, I'm the only child of my parents, and I don't want them to lose me yet when I have a lot of fulfillment in life ahead of me. I have dreams, I have plans, and I won't let you ruin them for me. Stay away from me, I don't know you, and you don't know me," she said, her voice passionate and determined, before turning to walk away.

Miguel let out a deep sigh as he stared after her, his eyes filled with a mix of emotions.
