Carter's golden wolf eyes glinted with danger as he leaped off the couch. His claw-like hand tightly gripped my neck, nearly piercing my skin.

"If it weren't for your wicked biological mother switching you two, Sophie wouldn't have been tortured for eighteen years in that barren border pack! Mother's debt, daughter pays-it's the debt you owe!"

I trembled, closing my eyes, and an absurd thought crossed my mind-maybe if Carter killed me right here, it would all be over.
