Chapter 1

On New Year’s Eve, an old friend called to congratulate me on the birth of my son.

“Emrys, you’ve been keeping this a secret pretty well! If I hadn’t seen you and your wife taking care of the baby together, I wouldn’t have known you had a child!”

I froze in my tracks.

How could I not know I had a child? And that I was taking care of him with her?

I immediately called my wife, who was still working late, to confront her about it. She just laughed and said our friend must have been mistaken, which was why this whole mix-up happened.

But the very next second, our friend sent a photo.

In the photo, she was facing sideways, holding a child in her arms, with a man standing beside her. Only his back was visible, but the silhouette was exactly like mine.

Her smile was gentle and radiant. At first glance, she looked utterly blissful.

I stared at the meticulously prepared New Year’s Eve dinner spread before me and suddenly flung it to the floor.

I immediately dialed my brother. He was a lawyer. “Celene Zeller cheated on me. She even had a child.

“I want a divorce. I want to kick her out of my company and make her leave with nothing.”

I was furious and rushed straight to the company to find Celene Zeller.

“Where’s Celene Zeller? Tell her to come out and see me!”

The receptionist glanced at me. “I’m sorry, but do you have an appointment?”

“I’m her husband! I need to speak with her urgently.”

The receptionist looked at him meaningfully. “Sir, I know our CEO. Ms. Zeller is stunningly beautiful, but she’s a married woman. She already has a husband.

“Her husband’s actually bringing her lunch with the kids right now. You’d better not get any ideas.”

This company was a subsidiary under my name, but I rarely managed it personally.

Back when Celene could not find a job, I used my influence to secure her the position of CEO.

Her abilities were adequate. Though she had not achieved any outstanding results, she had managed to keep the company from operating at a loss, which barely met my standards.

Precisely because of this, everyone in the company only recognized this young, beautiful female CEO, yet no one knew that I was the real boss.

But she went and had a child with another man behind my back! She was even putting on a show of being a loving couple right here in my company!

I absolutely could not tolerate this!

Just as I was about to storm over, a man walked out carrying a lunchbox and holding a child in his arms.

The receptionist immediately stepped forward to greet him.

“Mr. Lane, you’re so thoughtful toward Ms. Zeller. You even delivered her lunch yourself! We’re all so envious.

“Everyone agrees that we should look for a husband just like you, Mr. Lane!

“Not only are you handsome and in great shape, but you’re also caring and good with kids.”

Just as she said that, I pushed her aside and walked up to the man.

The face before me made my eyes narrow.

It was none other than the man in the “Eternal Remembrance” folder on my wife’s computer.

I had stumbled upon that folder by accident, which led to a huge fight between us. I even considered leaving her at one point.

But she told me he was her first love, long since deceased, and that she was simply keeping his memory alive in this way.

I knew that no matter how outstanding a person might be, they could never compare to someone who had passed away.

So, I chose to let it go.

But never in a million years did I imagine that this “deceased” first love was very much alive.

Not only was he standing right in front of me, alive and well, but he even had a child with her!

Clearly, Alden Lane recognized me.

The moment he saw me, a crack appeared in his perfect smile. Panic flashed in his eyes, his face turned pale, and he nearly dropped the child he was holding.

“You… why did you get here?”

Chapter 2

Alden looked around to make sure no one was paying attention. Then, he lowered his voice and took a step closer.

“We’re at the office. Let’s find somewhere else to talk. This isn’t appropriate.

“It’s not what you think. Celene’s reputation is at stake. Do you really want people to be pointing fingers at her?

“Let’s find a place to sit down and talk this through properly.”

‘Talk?’ I thought.

I had seen this with my own eyes. What was there to talk about?

A man who was from the dead and a newborn baby…

Was that not enough?

I shot him a cold glare, shoved him aside, and stormed straight toward the elevator.

Rage burned in my chest and threatened to consume me.

All I wanted now was to drag Celene out and confront her face-to-face. I wanted to see what other excuses she could come up with.

I moved with lightning speed. Just as I kicked open the office door, Alden finally arrived.

But the office was empty.

Alden closed the door and blocked the prying eyes outside.

“I already told you! Celene is busy. We can talk about this another time or discuss it at home.”

He spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world, but I was so furious that my head was spinning. “Home? Where exactly?

“To the apartment we bought for our marriage, or the three-bedroom place you two call your love nest?”

I had bought her a three-bedroom apartment because I was concerned that she was working too hard, only to learn that she had built a new life there with another man.

It was disgusting!

Just then, a pair of adorable little girls ran out of the break room.

The two children looked remarkably alike, with fair, delicate skin that made them utterly charming.

If they were not Celene’s children with another man, I would have felt sorry for them.

“Daddy, why are you back?”

“Daddy, do you miss Mommy again?”

The two children spoke up one after the other.

I looked at them and finally understood.

All her excuses of late-night overtime work, her reluctance to drive home, and her staying up at the office were to spend time with her other family.

That was a place that felt more like a home to her than the marriage she shared with me.

On her desk sat a family portrait of the four of them. Celene and Alden nestled together, each holding a child in their arms.

That image truly made them look like a happy, loving couple.

I could no longer contain my anger and immediately dialed a number. “I want you to get all the evidence of Celene’s affair, as well as the paternity test results for her and the children, as soon as possible.

“I want her to leave with nothing. You know what to do.”

I hung up.

Alden’s face darkened. “Are you going to ruin Celene?

“Do you have any idea how much blood, sweat, and tears she’s poured into running this company? How can you ruin it just like that?”

The way he so eagerly defended Celene left me momentarily dazed.

It was as if I were the one who had committed an unforgivable sin.

“Alden Lane, who do you think you are? What right do you have to question me here?”

I glared at him coldly.

His face darkened. He took a few steps closer, still holding the child, and lowered his voice so only I could hear. “Emrys Clark, don’t you think we look a lot alike?

“Actually, you’re just my stand-in. Celene married you only because she thought I wouldn’t be coming back. Otherwise, do you think she’d ever marry you?”

His words were shameless, yet they hit the nail on the head.

I looked so much like him that even our friends struggled to tell us apart. If we did not look so alike, I would not have found any of this.

Provoked by his words, my composure snapped, and I raised my fist to punch him.

But before I could strike, he screamed and clutched the child as he fell backward onto the floor. His face was etched with terror.

“Emrys, how could you be so cruel? Hitting me is one thing, but you’d hurt my child, too?”

He dropped the child onto the floor with a thud.

Immediately, he scrambled to his feet and rushed over to pick up the child. “Baby! Are you okay?”

“Emrys, I know you like Celene, but she and I already have children. We’ve been together for so many years. Why won’t you just let go?”

As soon as he said that, the onlookers could no longer contain themselves and rushed in.

Most of these people had never seen me before, and even if they had, they would not know who I was.

All they saw was a furious and aggressive person, while Alden looked distressed with a child in his arms.

They scrambled to help Alden to his feet, then turned to confront me.

“You’ve gone too far! Even if you like Ms. Zeller, it doesn’t give you the right to hit someone!”

“Exactly! You wouldn’t even spare a newborn baby! You’re out of your mind!”

“Who gave you the nerve to act so wild here? Do you even know whose turf this is?”

The twins started crying. Their shrill wails added to the chaos.

“You’re picking on Daddy, and you’re picking on my little brother, too!”

“I’m going to beat you up! You big meanie!”

The two little girls began kicking and punching me.

“What’s going on? Why isn’t anyone working? Why are you all gathered here?”

Celene’s stern voice rang out, and the crowd instinctively parted to make a way.

She walked in and saw Alden sitting on the sofa with red, swollen eyes.

“Celene!” Alden immediately threw himself at her with tears streaming down his face. “If you’d been a moment later, the kids and I would’ve been beaten to death!”

She wiped his tears and soothed him softly. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. No one can hurt you.

“What on earth happened?”

Only then did her gaze fall upon me. The two little girls were still kicking and punching me.

She instinctively panicked but forced herself to remain calm.

“Celene, save our child! He not only hit me but also tried to throw our son to his death!”

Upon hearing this, Celene completely lost control. She rushed toward me and slapped me hard across the face.

“Emrys, who gave you the nerve to hurt my child?

“There’s a limit to your nonsense! Do you think just because I’m paying your father’s medical bills, you can take advantage of me? Are you sure that I won’t stop his treatment after this?”

Chapter 3

Was she using my father to threaten me?

Four years ago, my father suffered a sudden stroke and fell into a coma after surgery.

For the past four years, every time I visited him, I went alone. Celene had the area cleared of everyone else.

She said it was to prevent anyone from using the situation to threaten me.

I believed her.

I never imagined that she had been making sure she could use my father to threaten me.

It turns out her so-called “confidentiality” was just a cover-up for her affair with Alden.

It was no wonder she always insisted I visit alone, so she could control everything.

“Celene Zeller, what gives you the right to hit me?!”

The moment those words left my mouth, her expression changed drastically.

She took a deep breath, turned to the staff, and forced out a smile. “I’ve made a spectacle of myself today.

“This is an admirer who’s obsessed with me. Because I helped pay for his father’s medical bills, he’s convinced I have feelings for him.

“He’s quite pitiful, having to care for his sick father while shouldering a massive debt.

“But I never expected him to be this crazy.”

With just a few words, she painted me as a paranoid lunatic.

I let out a cold laugh and advanced step by step.

The people around us scrambled to get out of the way. No one wanted to get dragged into a madman’s mess.

Alden hid behind Celene. His voice trembled. “You! Don’t come any closer!”

Celene stood in front of him and glared at me coldly. “Emrys, that’s enough! Stop making a scene!”

A scene?

She still thought I was just making a scene?

“You claim I’m your admirer? That I took your money and am crushed by debt?”

Her face hardened. “I know you like me, but I have a family. Stop harassing me! Your father still needs treatment, and I’ll continue to cover the costs.”

She was still using my father as leverage against me. She was trying to stop me from revealing the truth.

I stared at her coldly, waiting to see what other outrageous lies she could come up with.

She continued, “I know you acted on impulse when you hurt my child, but—”

Smack!

I slapped her across the face, cutting her off.

In the next instant, I executed a grappling move. I twisted her body and pinned her to the ground, then I kicked her in the back of the knee.

With a thud, she fell to her knees.

I followed up with a shoulder throw, slamming Alden hard onto the ground. He howled out in pain.

I looked down at the two of them. “You’re both worse than pigs!”

The scene spiraled completely out of control. No one had expected me to actually take action so suddenly.

Celene felt utterly humiliated.

She suddenly lost her temper. “Emrys, since you’ve refused my kind offer and chosen this harsh alternative, I’ll have to clap back!

“You dare lay a hand on me and hit my husband? I’ll have your father kicked out of the hospital right now!”

I met her gaze and found it laughable. “Threatening me with my father? Do you really think you’re worthy of that?”

“Whether I’m worthy or not, you’ll find out if you try!”

She gritted her teeth, pulled out her phone, and dialed the hospital. “Cut off medication for the patient in ICU Bed 45 and kick him out of the hospital immediately!”

That was my father’s bed! How dare she?!

I was furious. I snatched the phone from her hand. “Since you dare to harm my father, you’ll see how ruthless I can be!”

Celene tried to grab the phone back, but I slapped her hard across the face.

She glared at me in hatred. “Emrys, who do you think you are? If you want to be rough with me, you’d better consider whether you have what it takes!”

“What it takes? The truth is, this company is mine. Is that enough?”
