"What are you still standing there for? We need to get down the mountain quickly; Celine is not feeling well."
Everyone rushed down the mountain in a hurry. Vicky was left alone to fight against the odds.
I wanted to catch up with Vicky, but I was trapped beside Dustin. I had to go down the mountain with them.
Celine's health problem was not really serious; she just had a scare. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Without Vicky being around, no one thought of me.
The next day, Celine was about to be discharged from the hospital. Dustin called me then.
The cold female automated voice prompted that my phone was turned off. Dustin frowned and sent a voice message to my phone.
"Where the hell are you? Do not think that you can threaten me by going missing! Come to the hospital immediately to pick Celine up. She will be living with us during this period. You shall take care of her."
I was floating in the air, watching him go crazy with the voice message, looking ridiculous.
'Where the hell am I? I have, of course, died in the deep lake of lava. The place where you stood by and watched. I have also, of course, died in the hands of your dear soulmate.
Dustin, who did not get a reply from me, had to take a taxi home.
My mother, Kelly, had been waiting at the door for a long time.
She frowned when she saw Dustin. She then asked, "Where is Samantha? Why didn't she answer the phone?"
Dustin was stunned for a moment. "She didn't answer your call too?"
"What do you mean?" A dash of panic flashed in my mother's eyes. Her brows were tightly knitted, and she asked, "I heard that you all met with an accident when you went out for geological exploration together the day before yesterday?"
Dustin took out his cell phone immediately and dialed my number. There was still no answer.
Dustin explained, "She ran away that day. She is probably angry that I didn't save her immediately, so she is giving me the silent treatment."
My mother's face looked horrible. "Samantha is not that immature and ignorant. She didn't answer my call; something must have happened. I'll call the police now!"
My mother's eyes turned red with anger and anxiety. "Dustin, I will hold you responsible if something happens to Samantha.
"Don't forget, your family has many projects that are depending on us."
Celine whispered immediately, "Dustin, you must not let Kelly call the police. It would look bad if others were to know we left Samantha behind."
Dustin frowned and said, "Kelly, why do you have to make a big deal out of this?"
He grabbed my mother and pushed her into the house. "I have told you, Samantha is just in a cold war with me! If you call the police, it will involve our work. Things may even go out of control.
"A family's conflict should not be made public. Why do you want to do this?"
My mother was so angry that she was shaking all over. She asked in disbelief, "What are you doing? Are you locking me up?"
Dustin locked the door and said coldly, "Don't worry, I will contact her now. I will get your daughter to appear safely in front of you."
Dustin reached out his cell phone and sent me a message.
[Stop creating trouble and get back here instantly! Samantha, if you continue to act with such ignorance, I will really consider divorcing you.]
My body trembled when I saw his message. A cold grin then appeared at the corner of my mouth.
Divorce?
It would be great if I still had the chance to divorce him. Unfortunately, I was no longer able to do that.
Dustin's cell phone rang suddenly. He did not even look at the screen but picked up the call instantly, "Samantha! What the hell are you doing?"
"When can you start acting sensible? Your mother is worried about you. Aren't you afraid anything bad may happen to her? Get back here immediately and stop creating trouble for everyone."
There were two seconds of silence on the other end of the call.
Next, an awkward female voice came through. "Excuse me, is this Ms. Samantha Freeman's husband? I'm calling from the hospital. I can't get through to Ms. Freeman's phone, so I have to contact you.
"May I know when will Ms. Freeman be able to come for her prenatal check-up? It's time for her routine check-up."
Dustin was stunned. After a long moment, he managed to utter, "What did you just say? Is she really pregnant?"
Dustin obtained the ultrasound report from the hospital. The diagnosis showed that the baby was more than three months old. Dustin could not hide his excitement.
He was completely unaware that Celine, who was standing beside him, displayed a flash of viciousness in her eyes.
Celine looked so frail when Dustin looked at her. "Unfortunately, with my body's condition, I can no longer get pregnant. I myself am struggling to survive.
"I have never been a mother. This is one of the many regrets in my life..."
Dustin held her hand lovingly.
Celine sighed. "It would be great if I could have a child."
Dustin's face lit up. He then said firmly, "Don't worry, Celine. I will definitely make your wish come true."
Celine smiled bitterly.
Dustin turned around and started calling me. The call actually went through.
He breathed a sigh of relief, and his body relaxed. "What's wrong with you? You don't want a divorce?"
"Come back immediately if you don't want a divorce. Stop causing trouble.
"The hospital has notified me and asked me to take you for a prenatal check-up. We'll go tomorrow.
"As for the divorce…" He sounded as if he was doing me a favor.
He paused and looked at Celine. Then, in a deep voice, he ordered, "Since you are pregnant and Celine really wants to have a child of her own, you will let her take care of the baby for a while after the child is born!"
Bang, my eardrums exploded suddenly.
I thought I would no longer have any feelings. However, my body was shaking uncontrollably after hearing that.
I floated in the air, staring at him in disbelief. My eyes were already red.
'Dustin, how dare you? I have tried so hard to conceive the baby. How can you ask me to hand the baby to another woman?
'Have you forgotten that after my miscarriage, you held my hand tightly and said that we would have another child. Why shall my baby be given away by you like a present?'
I breathed deeply. Celine's sweet smile was incredibly annoying. Dustin wanted to laugh too.
However, the next second, Vicky's angry voice was heard on the other end of the call, "Dustin, you are an idiot. Why should Samantha's baby be raised by her?"
"It is you?" Dustin's facial expression turned extremely ugly. "Give the phone to Samantha! Tell her that if she doesn't accept this condition, we will divorce immediately!"
I could not help but laugh miserably. How would I be able to accept his request?
My baby and I were both dead.
Vicky collapsed suddenly on the other end of the call. "I can't give the phone to her."
She then sneered sadly, "Dustin, I am afraid Samantha and the baby are dead."
Dustin froze at an instant and asked, "What do you mean?"
Vicky arrived and threw my backpack at Dustin. All the miscellaneous items in the bag fell out.
The heavy cell phone smashed Dustin's forehead; blood gushed out instantly. Vicky then charged forward and slapped him hard.
"I could only find her backpack there. It contains all her geological exploration tools. She spent a lot of time and effort to purchase those tools. She once told me that she would rather lose her life than lose her tools."
Tears fell uncontrollable down Vicky's cheeks. She covered her face and shook her head continuously as she said, "I think something terrible must have happened to her; otherwise, she would not have left her backpack..."
I could not help but start crying too.
The backpack was the evidence I tried my best to throw to the shore with all my strength. I did not expect the person who found it in the end was not my husband.
As he looked at how emotionally devastated Vicky was, Dustin, on the other hand, did not have any sense of guilt.
He frowned and sneered, "Well, where are you hiding her?
"Is this a play she asked you to act for her?
"She still thinks that I shouldn't help Celine make her last wish come true? When will she be more sensible? Celine only has a little time left, so what if I give her the child? How much will she have with the baby?"
"Forget it… It's alright, Dustin. I can live with some regrets in my life," Celine said with tears in her eyes.
Vicky was so angry that she was breathing heavily. She was about to stand up and charged toward Celine.
However, before Vicky could reach Celine, someone suddenly rushed out from behind her.
Slap, slap!
Celine was slapped hard.
"You are a witch!" My mother stared at Celine viciously. Her eyes were burning with anger. "How dare you think of taking away my family's baby!"
Dustin raised his hand and pushed my mother away.
My mother screamed and fell to the ground, causing a long bloody mark on her elbow.
Dustin's facial expression looked extremely horrible. "Kelly, I respect you as an elder. Please behave yourself. Don't push it too far!"
My mother covered her bleeding arm and sneered, "Isn't it just a divorce? I'll make the decision for Samantha. You will get a divorce immediately."
Dustin's face had never looked so ugly. He chuckled and said disdainfully, "Kelly, if you can make the decision for Samantha, she would not have begged to marry me back then."
That really hit me terribly. It turned out that Dustin felt that my love for him was me digging my own grave.
I stared at Dustin, who was completely heartless. I was dazed.
A phone ring broke the silence. Dustin answered the call. It was a call from the police station.
"Hello, is this Mr. Dustin White? Is Samantha Freeman your wife? This is the police."
Dustin sneered and pressed the loudspeaker, "Where did you find the extras for your act? You even get the police to call."
The person on the line read out his police identification number.
"After some searching effort, we located a body in the lava lake. We have performed DNA comparison analysis and confirmed that the body is Ms. Samantha Freeman."
