Chapter 1

1

[Chloe Young was 26 years old. Female. The glioma in the frontal lobe was about 23 inches long...]

[Treatment recommendations: Hospitalization.]

A few short lines sentenced me to death.

"You're home?"

When Yves Whitman's voice rang out, I hurriedly hid the diagnosis report under the sofa.

His face was as indifferent as ever.

I quickly calmed down and looked at him brightly.

The dining table in the restaurant was empty. He glanced at it and asked, "You didn't cook?"

Looking at the man I had loved for six years, I suddenly wanted to cry.

He patiently accompanied his ex-girlfriend.

When he got home, he asked me to prepare dinner for him.

"No, I'm a little tired."

Yves walked over with a probing look.

I didn't know if my eyes were red. I just turned my head slightly, stubbornly refusing to meet his eyes.

"Chloe, you've lost a lot of weight. Are you feeling unwell?"

"No." I forced a smile. "The company is not busy today, so I came back so early."

We communicated in a plain and brief manner like an ordinary couple.

Might because I looked too pale, Yves asked, "Do you really not need to go to the hospital?"

My eyes were suddenly filled with tears. I was unwilling to accept the situation and asked him while holding back my sobs.

"Will you go with me?"

Yves' indifferent eyes changed. He pinched his brows with his fingers. His tone was impatient.

"Chloe, stop. You know the company is going public recently."

The moment he turned around, I cried.

It turned out that I didn't even have the right to ask him about dying.

2

I had loved Yves for eight years and pursued him for eight years.

I had accompanied him from the start of his career to the present brilliant career. I knew he was in love once, but I didn't know who the woman was.

The persistent headache kept me awake all night.

Yves saw the takeout on the table, paused in buttoning his suit, and glanced at my pale face out of the corner of his eye.

"If you still don't feel well today, don't go to the company."

I didn't want to go at first.

But the company consisted of two of us, and there were always things that I had to step in for.

The general manager's office happened to be open, and it was only at this moment that I could see his ex-girlfriend's face clearly.

Alyssa Davis was surprised for a moment, and then instantly turned into contempt and disgust as before.

It seemed like she would push my head into the toilet again in the next second.

Alyssa quickly laughed with a look of surprise on her face, "Chloe? We haven't seen each other for many years. I'm surprised to see you here."

She put her arm around Yves'.

It was like a declaration of sovereignty.

When Yves saw me, his expression was very stiff.

He struggled for a moment without letting go the hand, and then stopped struggling.

"Alyssa, stop it. This is my wife." Yves' tone was unhappy. I didn't know if it was because of me or Alyssa.

Under their clasped hands was a hotel takeaway food box that looked exactly like the one I had.

I was still thinking that Yves didn't have a good breakfast, so he should have a better lunch.

After all, his stomach was so fragile.

It turned out that he had already enjoyed Alyssa's care before I arrived.

Alyssa said, "Chloe, Yves and I have been friends for many years. We are glad to see each other. I hope you don't mind."

I said, "I do mind.

"Would you please take your hand off my husband's arm?"

Yves' and Alyssa's faces changed at the same time.

Might they didn't expect that I could be so ruthless in front of so many subordinates.

"Chloe..."

Yves hadn't finished explaining yet.

Alyssa interrupted him with a sly smile, "Chloe, your temper is still the same as it was back then. You still love to act like a spoiled girl."

It was this pretty and charming woman that pushed my head into the toilet again and again ten years ago.

It was as if I was such a filthy garbage that could not be tolerated in this world.

She was as beautiful now as ever.

Only her poisoned eyes seemed to show their fangs and bite my neck in the next second.

She said this as if I was the one who ruined the atmosphere.

"You are the same as before."

As we passed each other, I said in a voice that was neither too loud nor too soft, "You are shameless."

I guaranteed that everyone present could hear it.

"Chloe!"

Yves' eyes became angry, which was a sign of his anger.

In the past, whenever he got angry, I would always soften my voice and comfort him.

But I wouldn't do that this time.

I was dying anyway.

I stared at Yves' angry face and tried my best to put on my best smile. "Since there are already delicacies out there, why should you eat leftovers at home?"

Bang.

I threw the food box into the trash can.

"Chloe!"

Yves' roar echoed throughout the corridor.

I looked back at him and smiled.

I didn't know how miserable my smile was.

In short, I would not apologize to Alyssa.

I would never apologize.

Chapter 2

3

I wanted to do as I imagined. I wanted to rush up and fight, scolding Alyssa for being Yves' mistress.

I wanted to let her leave my husband.

But I could not.

I had a tumor in my head that could explode at any time.

From that day on, Yves, who used to forget himself when working, started to go home on time.

My heart was hollowed out.

But I still took care of his daily life as before.

I was waiting for him to give me an explanation.

But I never got a single word.

It was that monthly meeting time with my father, Quinn Young, again.

I usually tried to put it off, but now I thought I should meet him.

After all, we met less and less each time in the human world.

He was the only person in the world who was related to me by blood.

He was a cruel person.

But he was my father.

There were two more people at this meeting than before.

A young woman was with a boy of three or four years old.

I couldn't understand why she, who looked two or three years younger than me, would commit herself to a man like Quinn who could be her father.

"Five million dollars."

His hair was half gray, but one could still vaguely see how handsome he was when he was young. "Chloe, give me another five million dollars, and I'll transfer all the shares of the company to you."

The company that Yves and I were currently running was developed based on Quinn's company that was once on the verge of bankruptcy.

The money he took from me over the years was enough to buy ten more of that company.

Five million dollars. I couldn't believe he said that.

The little boy nestled timidly in the woman's arms.

Looking at the face that somewhat resembled mine, I couldn't help but think that he must be hugged by my father often.

What did it feel like to be loved and cared for by my father?

I had no idea.

I used to work very hard, and I would be happy for a long time if he gave me an appreciative look.

But now, I really wanted to say to him, "Dad, please hug me. I don't want to die without ever being held by you..."

My head started to ache again.

Seeing that I didn't say anything, Quinn said anxiously, "Chloe, I'm too old to work anymore. And your brother is still young. There will be many places where we will need money in the future..."

I didn't even listen to him finish his words. I answered directly, "Next Monday, I will transfer the money to you."

I promised to give him money, and he seemed very happy.

He talked all the way from the restaurant to the underground parking lot with a kind smile on his face, which made me feel for a moment that the fatherly love he gave me was real.

I didn't say a word to that woman.

She seemed very afraid of me.

Why was she afraid of me? I wouldn't do anything.

"Liam, don't run!" The woman shouted.

The little boy ran towards Quinn.

It turned out that my younger brother's name was Liam.

Even though he and I were more than 20 years apart, it was one more person who was related to me by blood.

People who were about to die always envied young lives.

I reached out and tried to touch his hair.

But the sudden sound of brakes touched the nerves of all of us.

A car came rushing from the side road. And the person stood on the outermost side was Liam.

The incident took only a few seconds, and I was pushed out.

There were screams and brake sounds.

The wheels stopped on my coat.

"What are you doing?

"If you don't want to live, go find another place to die! Don't harm others!"

The driver's curses brought me back to my senses.

Quinn was standing not far from me. And the woman behind him was hugging Liam tightly, still in shock.

I was pushed out to block the car for my brother.

Quinn took several seconds to react, staring at his hands in shock, as if he didn't understand why he did that.

"Chloe!"

Quinn ran over quickly and tried to help me up.

I didn't know why I just cried just looking at him.

I didn't cry very often.

I didn't cry when he divorced my mother. I didn't cry when the kids in the alley called me an unwanted bastard and threw mud at me. I didn't cry when Alyssa bullied me so much.

But he pushed me.

I cried uncontrollably.

"Quinn, you are not my father anymore."

3

It felt like there was a chainsaw inside my head, splitting my brain in half.

I saw a double vision out of control.

I was sitting on the sofa in a daze and didn't even hear the sound of Yves coming back and closing the door.

"Chloe!"

"What's wrong with you?" His voice was very urgent, and he almost rushed to me from the door.

Only then did I realize that my hands and knees were covered in blood. And my dress and coat were stained with blood. I looked in a terrible state.

I looked at Yves' anxious face and said, "Yves, I will be alone from now on."

But Yves hugged me and said, "Girl, you will not be alone. You still have me."

Somehow my eyes became hurt again. "Yves, do you love me?"

He held me for a while. And I heard him say, "I do."

I asked, "Will this love last long?"

"I will love you forever."

I slowly tightened my grip on Yves' shoulders, using all my strength.

The firmness in his tone made me waver for a moment.

After eight years of companionship, it was impossible for us not to care about each other.

The subtle fragrance from his body penetrated into my nostrils.

I pushed Yves suddenly, and he fell to the ground. He looked at me in surprise and confusion.

"Chloe, what?"

I stood up slowly. I should take painkillers. The steps that were once familiar to me were no longer clear to me.

The pain from the brain tumor seemed to have cast an invisible membrane between me and the world.

Later, Yves seemed to rush up and hug me.

I couldn't remember clearly. If I still had the strength, I would ask him, "Yves, why did you lie to me?

"Can't you just love me only?

"My life was very short, only twenty-six years."
