Chapter 5

I was sweeping the floors when a young Omega rushed in, her face pale with panic.

“Zoya! Your sister—she’s being punished by the Luna! You have to hurry!”

My stomach dropped as memories of my sister’s recent confessions about the Alpha’s son flashed through my mind. A sickening suspicion crept in, and I told the girl to find my mother while I sprinted toward the Luna’s chambers.

The metallic tang of blood hit me before I even reached the door, thick and suffocating. The Luna’s voice, sharp and venomous, carried through the air.

“I’ve been kind to you, considering how long your mother has served me. I even planned to find you a respectable mate. But it seems you’re too eager to climb the ranks, aren’t you?”

My sister’s voice, weak but defiant, cut through the tension. “Luna, I swear I’ve never—I would never—”

My heart froze. It wasn’t the Alpha’s son they were accusing her of seducing. It was the Alpha himself.

The old, balding man who my sister had once mocked, saying he looked more like her grandfather than a mate. She had always been too proud to even consider being someone’s second mate, let alone the Alpha’s.

I burst into the room without thinking, my legs trembling at the sight before me.

Alayah was sprawled on the floor, her body limp and her lower half drenched in blood. Yet, her head was raised, her eyes blazing with defiance even in her weakened state.

I dropped to my knees in front of the Luna, clutching the hem of her dress as I begged desperately.

“Luna, please! My sister has always been loyal to you! She would never—”

My presence only seemed to fuel the Luna’s rage.

“Do you see this? Neither of you respect me!” she snarled, her voice dripping with contempt. She kicked me square in the chest, and I gasped for air, my vision blurring.

Just then, my mother entered the room. I turned to her, my eyes pleading for her to defend my sister.

But she didn’t even glance at us. Instead, she knelt before the Luna, her forehead pressed to the ground.

“They’re just Omegas, Luna. Do with them as you please. Your health is far more important than these worthless creatures.”

The Luna seemed to calm slightly at my mother’s words. With a dismissive wave, she ordered us to leave.

My mother bowed again before standing, reaching out to help me up. I jerked away, my chest tight with betrayal and anger.

Chapter 6

Alayah lay on the bed, her breathing shallow, her lips cracked and pale. The sister who had always been like a sunflower to me now seemed on the verge of withering away.

I held a damp cloth to her forehead, wiping away the beads of sweat, my tears falling uncontrollably.

She managed a weak smile, her voice barely audible. "You look so ugly when you cry."

I couldn’t hold back anymore. I threw myself beside her bed, sobbing uncontrollably.

Alayah turned her head away, avoiding my gaze. Her voice trembled as she spoke. "All my savings are in my box. Take them."

I cried harder, clutching her tightly. "I don’t want the money. I want you."

"Don’t be foolish. Just keep it safe for me."

I thought about my ability to remember my past life, my reincarnation. If I could do it once, maybe I could do it again. Perhaps one day, I really could return the money I’d saved to her.

I told her everything—about my rebirth, my memories, my second chance at life.

Finally, I asked, "If we really meet again in the future, how can I help you?"

Her eyes lit up slightly at my words, a flicker of hope in their depths. She thought carefully before answering.

"On September 9th, 2025, at the intersection of Peace Street and Red Star Street in Greenwood City, I was struck by a falling billboard. After that, I ended up in this era. If we truly meet again, please... save me."

Her voice grew thick with emotion, her words choked with sobs.

"I don’t want to come back to this cruel era. I miss our mother. I want to go home!"

Chapter 7

My sister passed that very night.

I carefully gathered her belongings, placing the necklace I never had the chance to give her into a small box.

During the last pack run, she had lingered over that necklace in the market, admiring it several times.

But it was too expensive. It took me a year to save up enough to buy it.

I had planned to surprise her with it.

I couldn’t bring myself to let our mother provide her burial shroud. The bitterness in my heart toward her was too deep.

Mother’s face was heavy with sorrow. “Alayah was my flesh and blood. How could I not ache for her?

“If I don’t appease the Moon Goddess, I fear I’ll lose another daughter.”

The pack moved on as if nothing had happened. Life continued as usual.

It wasn’t until later, when I overheard the Omegas whispering, that I learned the truth.

The Alpha had been drunk. He forced himself on my sister during her night watch.

The Luna, unwilling to confront him directly, decided to use my sister as a pawn.

She ordered her to be punished with thirty lashes, a warning to the Alpha disguised as discipline.

I could barely comprehend it. My sister’s life... was taken over their petty power struggle?

Their mate bond disputes, their silent battles—why did they have to use my sister’s life as their pawn?

In that moment, I realized something.

Not only could a mate betray and destroy me, but even those in power could end a life without a second thought.

I clutched the necklace tightly, the cold metal digging into my palm.

My wolf stirred within me, a low growl of anger and grief echoing in my mind.

She didn’t deserve this. None of us did.

The pack moved on, indifferent. But I couldn’t.

I would never forget this. Not the Alpha’s cruelty, nor the Luna’s callousness.

My sister’s death would not be in vain.

I swore it, not just to myself, but to the Moon Goddess herself.

She would have justice.

Even if it cost me everything.
