Chapter 1

I had liked Mark Willis for three years. As he broke up with his ex, I seized the opportunity to get together with him.

On the day we got our marriage certificate, his ex, Lily Allen, came back.

He picked up the uninjured Lily and left me behind, who was seriously injured.

Over one thousand days of dedication and companionship, coupled with my broken leg, didn't make him love me.

I finally understood that the person who was loved didn't have to do anything.

Just like Lily, she just needed to stand there, and then she would win.

——

All of a sudden, I was hit by a speeding car.

I fell to the ground in shock, and then Mark rushed towards me with an anxious look.

"Mark..." I stretched out my hand towards him, but he walked past me and picked up the person behind me.

Only then did I notice that Lily was also there, and she was the one lying behind me.

Mark seemed not to have seen me. He just held Lily, got into the car, and quickly disappeared.

My mind went blank.

I wondered whether he came here to get the marriage certificate with me today or to meet Lily.

Later, I tried to stand up but felt a sharp pain in my knee.

I called Mark, but no one answered the call after a long time.

In the end, a kind-hearted passerby took me to the hospital.

When I finished the orthopedic appointment, Mark called me.

"We'll talk about getting the certificate another day."

"Mark, I already..."

"I have something to do, so I won't talk to you for now."

He hung up the phone very quickly.

Mark cared about Lily so much that he didn't notice I was standing behind him.

I saw him holding Lily and asking a nurse with a worried look on his face.

"Where's the doctor? Why don't you have a doctor to treat patients in such a big hospital?"

"Sir, calm down. There was a car accident nearby, and all the available emergency doctors went to help.

"This lady only has superficial injuries. She doesn't have to be hospitalized."

Mark yelled at the nurse. "Her skin has clearly been broken. How can it be just a superficial wound? Hurry up and call a doctor to treat her!"

Lily leaned on his chest obediently, looking so pitiful, and her skirt was spotless and flawless.

She did not look like someone who had been in a car accident but an otherworldly fairy.

By comparison, my black loose pants were covered in mud and had a hole at the knee.

I felt a little embarrassed, not only because of the injury, but also because of the relationship that had lasted for more than three years.

I still called Mark, and he turned around and saw me. He was shocked at first and then became very impatient.

"Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to go get the certificate another day? Why did you come to the hospital?

"Yet, you came at the right time. Lily was in a serious car accident just now. Don't you have a relative in this hospital? Ask her to call a reliable doctor to check on her health."

He didn't notice I was injured but ordered me to find a doctor.

I looked at Lily carefully and found broken skin on her ankle.

Her face was rosy, with a smile on her lips and pride in her eyes.

It reminded me of the time when she had the same expression after Mark confessed his love to her in college.

There was despising in her expression of eyes.

She seemed to be sneering. "You almost lose your life, but so what? I don't need to do anything, and he will give everything to me."

Chapter 2

Maybe I remained silent for too long, which made Mark even more dissatisfied.

"If you don't want to help, then go back. Don't be an eyesore here."

Lily spoke up suddenly.

"Mark, you've wronged Daisy. Look, she's holding the registration form.

"It should be to help me register..."

Mark snatched the form from my hand without looking at the name.

He muttered, "It's useful for you to make an orthopedic appointment.

"Okay, now that you have nothing to do, then go back. I'm taking Lily to get an X-ray. You'll cause trouble if you follow along."

Having finished speaking, he hugged Lily and turned to leave. I felt an indescribable pain in my heart.

I couldn’t understand what was so special about Lily that made him like her so much.

I also wondered why three-year companionship and six-year secret love couldn't make him feel touched.

Even if my love was so deep and affectionate, he was still dissatisfied with it.

My passion for Mark finally dimmed at this time.

I shouted, raising my voice, "Mark, let's break up!"

Lily covered her chest and acted frightened. Yet, she still tried to sow discord between us.

"Daisy, why are you still in such a temper? You scared me, and you misunderstood Mark. Your aggressive attitude will make him embarrassed."

Mark looked annoyed.

"Daisy Wright, what are you crazy about? Why are you yelling? You scared Lily! Apologize now."

I turned around and walked out of the hospital, thinking I should say goodbye to him.

Also, I should say goodbye to me who once was stubborn and rebellious.

Upon returning home, I packed all my things and left the house where I and Mark had lived for three years.

Then, I moved back to my own house.

After a busy day, my knees started to hurt more and more.

In the end, I realized that I couldn't stand up.

After asking for leave from the performing arts troupe, I came to the hospital again.

Sitting on the bench in the hospital, I kept crying. Tears couldn't stop falling.

It turned out I would never be able to dance again.

All I could remember was the doctor's words of regret.

"You have a delayed injury. The meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament of your left knee joint are torn at the same time.

"It will affect your walking in the future. You can go for a disability assessment.

"Besides, you have some mild post-traumatic stress syndrome. You need some psychological counseling at the psychiatric department."

The doctor said I needed to be hospitalized and family members' company.

However, I didn't dare tell my grandparents because they were old.

Thinking about it twice, I took out my phone to call Joe Steven.

He was two years younger than me, but I needed to be polite to him.

It was because he was my grandfather's last disciple.

It was said that he was from Capitalton. He was attracted by puppet shows while traveling here with his parents.

From then on, he would be sent to my home to study with my grandfather every winter and summer vacation.

We used to have fights at a young age.

Before Joe entered the room, I heard his impatient voice.

"Miss, you really know how to cause trouble. I'm so busy that I can't leave."

But as soon as he came in and saw me wearing a hospital gown, he was stunned.

Suddenly, I felt aggrieved, and my tears couldn't stop flowing.

Mark left me behind. My leg was injured, and I couldn’t perform the puppet show I was rehearsing on stage.

It seemed like I had lost everything since Lily came back.

"What's going on?" Joe asked me with concern.

I told him what happened in the past two days.

Joe came over and pulled me into his chest.

"Don't cry! Everyone can see that Mark doesn't love you, and you're the only one lying to yourself.

"Silly girl, you should have woken up from your dream long ago."

During the days I was in the hospital, Mark never contacted me.

On the day I was discharged from the hospital, I received a notice.

The puppet show parts in the performing arts troupe's latest stage drama were deleted, and the leading actor was replaced by Lily.

While receiving the message, I laughed at myself.

Immediately afterwards, Mark called.

"Daisy, let Lily play the role this time. You will have another chance in the future."

My knuckles turned white as I held the phone tightly. I tried to stay calm and asked, "Why?"

"Why? Because Lily just returned to our country. She needs a performance opportunity, and you don't need it."

"What if I say I don't agree?"

"I'm not discussing with you but informing you. Also, you will be in charge of guiding Lily in her dance on stage."

I finally couldn't help it and questioned.

"Mark, why should I guide her? She is your true love, not mine, and I told you that we broke up!"

Chapter 3

I touched my leg that would never heal, and hatred filled my heart.

"Daisy, you are always tough and have no sympathy for others. Lily just returned and needs help now. How come you don't consider for her?

"If that's what you want, forget about the puppet show parts."

As the director, Mark could decide what to add or delete.

He forced me to compromise with what I cared about most, but he didn't know I had no chance to own it.

Also, he had no idea what puppetry meant to me.

"Okay, forget it."

What I gave up included not only the puppet show, but also our relationship.

I submitted my resignation letter to the performing arts troupe.

Due to my injured leg, I could no longer dance, so there was no point in staying.

To promote puppetry, I didn't want to rely on Mark anymore.

Mark took Lily to the performing arts troupe.

He probably didn't know that I had left the troupe a long time ago.

Although he called me a lot again, I didn't want to answer the calls or get entangled with him anymore.

"Where's Daisy? Why didn't she come to rehearsal? She didn't answer the phone or reply to my message. She has no sense of responsibility at all!"

Lily was constantly sowing discord at this time.

"Don't be angry, Mark. Isn't Daisy always like this?"

Mark's face darkened, and he was furious. He spoke loudly to everyone.

"Tell Daisy that if she doesn't show up within an hour, all her dance leads will be replaced."

Everyone present looked at each other in confusion.

Anna, who usually had a good relationship with me, stood up and glanced at Lily.

She said, "Mr. Willis, Daisy resigned, didn't you know it?"

"Resign? When did it happen?"

Anna told him a date, which was the day after I proposed breaking up.

Mark's expression changed from surprise to certainty.

He was certain that I tried to embarrass him deliberately.

A man as proud as him would never give in to others first.

Thus, he warned, "Who is she trying to scare?

"Does she think that I can't do anything to her just because she's like this?

"Since she doesn't want to dance, don't ask me for help for the rest of her life!"

Anna sighed and asked, "Mr. Willis, are you and Daisy quarreling?"

"She is just being willful and can't empathize with others. Okay, fine! Lily will lead the dance in the future! I won't give Daisy any chance, even if she wants to."

"Daisy's leg is broken, and she can't dance anymore. Thus, she resigned."

Mark felt that he heard it wrong.

"What did you say? What happened to Daisy's leg?"

"Mr. Willis, Daisy broke it in the car accident on the day you two got the marriage certificate. Don't you know that?"
