Flash Marriage To The Ruthless Billionaire Chapter 1

Eliana Jordan stood before the polished oak door of apartment 28B, her knuckles hovering just inches from the wood.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm of anticipation.

In her left hand, she clutched a sleek, black portfolio. The leather felt cool and smooth against her slightly damp palm. Inside was "Eternity," a suite of couple's jewelry she had poured the last six weeks of her life into. It was her anniversary surprise for Ethan. Her masterpiece.

A wide, genuine smile spread across her face. She pictured Ethan's expression—the way his eyes would light up, the proud curve of his lips. Two years. It felt like a lifetime and no time at all.

She lifted her hand to ring the bell, but paused.

The door was already ajar, a dark sliver of space in the bright hallway.

A flicker of confusion crossed her mind. Ethan was never careless. Maybe he was expecting her. The thought sent another jolt of excitement through her. This was perfect. She could sneak in, make it a real surprise.

She shifted her weight to the balls of her feet, her designer heels making no sound on the plush corridor carpet. With the gentle push of a single finger, the heavy door swung inward without a whisper. The air inside was cool, smelling faintly of his expensive cologne and something else... a sweet, cloying perfume she didn't recognize.

The living room was empty, bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun through the floor-to-ceiling windows. But from the direction of the bedroom, a sound drifted out. A low, suppressed giggle that was sickeningly familiar.

Ashley. Her stepsister.

Eliana's feet froze to the floor. The portfolio suddenly felt heavy, its corners digging into her fingers. Her smile faltered. What was Ashley doing here?

A knot of unease tightened in her stomach. She held her breath, every muscle in her body tensing as she crept closer to the partially open bedroom door. The voices inside became clearer, weaving a nightmare in the quiet apartment.

"Ethan, when are you going to break up with that fool, Eliana?" Ashley's voice was a syrupy purr, laced with triumphant mockery. ""We're about to get our marriage certificate."

The world tilted. Eliana's vision blurred at the edges. The portfolio slipped from her numb fingers, landing silently on the thick rug. Her brain refused to process the words, the casual cruelty of them. Marriage license?

Then came Ethan's voice, a tone of deep affection she had once believed was reserved only for her. "Patience, baby. We don't have her graduate collection yet, do we? That portfolio is her ticket into Aethelred & Co. And now, it's going to be yours."

"You're right," Ashley laughed, a sound that was no longer just familiar, but grotesque. "Her style is exactly what I need. She really is our lucky star, isn't she?"

The blood in Eliana's veins turned to ice. Her talent, her soul, the very essence of her creativity-to them, it was just a tool. A thing to be stolen.

"As soon as I get the portfolio, I'll tell her it's over," Ethan continued, his voice smooth and confident. "Her control-freak father will be too busy forcing her into another marriage to even bother with us."

As if on cue, a phone rang. Ethan put it on speaker.

The cold, hard voice of her own father, Marcus Thorne, filled the room. "Ethan, how is it coming along?"

"Don't worry, Uncle Marcus," Ethan replied, his tone respectful, almost subservient. "I'll have Eliana's portfolio very soon."

"Good," Marcus grunted. "I've already settled things with Preston Carlisle. The moment you have it, I'll announce Eliana's engagement to him. The capital from that marriage will be just what I need to crush her uncle's little business."

Preston Carlisle. The name echoed in Eliana's mind, a synonym for brutality and scandal. A man notorious throughout New York for his violent temper.

A wave of nausea washed over her. She wasn't a daughter. She was a commodity. A chess piece to be traded for capital.

The call ended. She heard the distinct sound of a kiss, followed by Ashley's gleeful celebration.

Each sound was a physical blow, shattering the last two years of her life, pulverizing the fragile hope she held for a family's love. The pain was so immense, so suffocating, it felt like her lungs were collapsing.

But then, something else rose from the ashes.

A cold, clear rage.

She didn't storm in. She didn't scream or cry. Her movements were slow, deliberate. She bent down, her spine straight, and picked up the portfolio from the floor. Her fingers were steady now.

She took one last look at the closed bedroom door. The love in her eyes was gone, replaced by a chilling emptiness, a promise of retribution.

Step by silent step, she backed away, a ghost leaving the scene of a murder. The murder of her heart.

The elevator doors slid shut, and in the polished steel, she saw her reflection. A pale face, dark eyes burning with a fire that would not be extinguished.

Her hand trembled as she pulled out her phone, but her finger was firm as it pressed the record button. She needed to remember. Every word, every betrayal.

Tears were useless. She knew that now.

She wasn't going to cry. She was going to make them pay. Ethan, Ashley, and her father. She would make them all pay a price so steep it would ruin them.
