Chapter 4

The next morning, I was woken up by Elliot.

As usual, he had already squeezed toothpaste onto my brush for me and was even clumsily trying to make breakfast in the kitchen.

While I was brushing my teeth, he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and said softly, "Holly, it was my fault. How could I let you go to such an important checkup alone? Let me make it up to you today. I'll go with you, okay?"

Before I could respond, he ruffled my hair and flashed an innocent, boyish smile at me.

As I watched him move around the kitchen, a bitter ache welled up inside me.

Elliot was always so hot and cold. I had been with him for six years, yet only now did I realize that I had never truly known him.

But it didn't matter now. I didn't love him any longer, and I didn't need to understand him anymore, either.

When we arrived at the hospital, Chelsea was there too. She was visiting the dermatology department.

As a top actress, she was instantly surrounded by fans wherever she went. From a distance, I could already hear their excited chatter.

"Poor Chelsea! She just recovered from a serious illness a few years ago, and now she has to come back to the hospital again."

"Don't worry—she'll be fine. This is the best hospital in the city."

"Besides, Elliot practically owns this hospital. And he's Chelsea's rumored boyfriend, her biggest supporter. He'll do whatever it takes to take care of her."

"Wow, a famous actress and a powerful CEO? Sounds like a perfect match!"

The next moment, Chelsea's eyes locked onto Elliot's figure in the crowd. She called out his name excitedly.

The fans turned to look at us.

Chelsea ran straight toward Elliot, wrapping her arms around his in an affectionate embrace.

"Elliot, it's all your fault for insisting we eat king crab last night. Now, I have an allergic reaction! So, are you here today just to take care of me? If that's the case, I guess I can forgive you."

Elliot glanced at me, then back at Chelsea. In the end, he simply smiled and nodded at her.

The crowd around us practically swooned over their interaction.

I knew then that Elliot was going to abandon me again. I locked eyes with him, my voice steady and deliberate. "Elliot, didn't you say you were coming with me to my checkup?"

The onlookers gasped at the unexpected revelation.

A flicker of hesitation flashed through Elliot's eyes, and for a second, he looked like he might step toward me.

However, Chelsea quickly pulled him back. The sweetness in her expression was gone, replaced by cold arrogance and smugness.

"Elliot, isn't she just your housekeeper? You've already done enough by driving her to the hospital. There's no need to accompany her inside.

"If people see you with her, they might think that the baby is yours. That wouldn't just hurt your reputation—it could damage the company's image, too."

At her words, the crowd seemed to come to a realization. Their gazes shifted toward me, now filled with disdain.

Elliot opened his mouth slightly as if to say something, but in the end, he didn't defend me at all. He simply let Chelsea lead him away, leaving me standing there alone.

Chapter 5

It didn't take long before a fan recorded the entire scene and posted it online, where it quickly went viral.

The comments were ruthless.

"Looks like Mr. Cox isn't just wealthy. He's also kind and responsible. He even treats his housekeeper with such care."

"I knew it! There's no way Elliot would be interested in a woman like her."

"Did you see that old hag trying to copy Chelsea by wearing an emerald necklace? Hilarious!"

"That emerald necklace is our company's newest exclusive release. There's only one in the world, and Mr. Cox personally instructed me to deliver it to Chelsea's house."

"Mr. Cox is such a romantic. Every gift he gives Chelsea is one of a kind. She's so lucky."

I closed the app, ignoring the comments. I lay on the operating table, staring at the ceiling as dizziness washed over me.

The doctor confirmed once more. "Ms. Baxter, are you absolutely sure you want to terminate the pregnancy?"

I closed my eyes and nodded firmly.

Even though they had given me a full dose of anesthesia, I could still feel the pain. It was an excruciating, soul-crushing pain. The tears I had held back for so long finally spilled over.

After the procedure, I instructed the doctor to keep the fetus' remains. I wanted it to be handed over to Elliot after I left.

As I stepped out of the hospital, I got into a cab and headed for the airport.

I received a message from Roxanne—she had forwarded the link for a live stream. It was Elliot standing beside Chelsea as her family member at an award ceremony.

On stage, Chelsea was radiant in a strapless evening gown, while Elliot wore a suit in the same color scheme.

When Chelsea delivered her speech, the camera continuously focused on Elliot. His gaze was filled with pride, admiration, and an unmistakable affection.

The host teasingly asked Chelsea to describe her relationship with Elliot in two words.

Chelsea smiled shyly and turned toward Elliot's expectant eyes. "Forever and always."

I laughed. Those were the exact same words Elliot had promised me on our wedding day.

I closed the live stream. I didn't want to be tangled up with them anymore.

The plane was about to take off. In the final minutes, before I turned off my phone, messages from Elliot flooded in.

"Don't take Chelsea's words to heart. She's just childish. She didn't mean it. Are you still at the hospital? I'll come pick you up after my meeting, okay? Holly, don't be upset. It's not good for your health or our baby."

When I didn't reply, Elliot started calling me repeatedly. I ignored him and turned off my phone.

Even now, he was still trying to deceive me. He wasn't in a meeting; he was at an award ceremony with Chelsea.

And only when he had a free moment did he suddenly remember the pregnant wife he had abandoned.

But no matter how many times he called or messaged, he would never be able to reach me.

It wasn't until his assistant, Aaron Miller, sent him a text that he realized what was happening.

"Mr. Cox, Mrs. Cox is gone. She sent the divorce papers… along with the organ transplant agreement from six years ago."
