My wife, Lindsay Cyrus and I were getting ready to leave for a trip to celebrate the first night of our first wedding anniversary. I was excited to pack my bags.
After Lindsay answered a phone call, the look on her face suddenly turned grave.
I asked her who was calling but she didn't say anything.
"Honey, don't pack yet." She sighed.
"What's wrong?"
I stopped what I was doing and came to sit beside her.
I held her face and asked with a serious face, "Is it that ungrateful thing that made my beautiful wife angry?"
There was a pause.
I asked again, "That fatuous boss of yours?"
Lindsay shook her head.
"Your friend who chews the cud and wreaks havoc and spends all day idly and salty?"
"Not her."
"Then who the hell is it?"
"Honey, do you love me?"
"Of course."
"Are you willing to give everything for me?"
"I must."
"If I want your bone marrow, will you give it?"
——
I froze at first.
And then the first reaction was to anxiously open my mouth and asked her, "Lindsay, are you sick? If you're not feeling well, let's go to the hospital now for a checkup."
I got up and was about to take Lindsay to the hospital.
She shook her head and said, "I'm not sick."
"Then what do you want my bone marrow for?" I asked with a puzzled look on my face.
"Jackson checked out with chronic leukemia and he said that your blood type just happens to match his, so I want you to donate your bone marrow to him."
I looked at the woman I slept with every night in shock. I couldn't believe at all that such words could come out of her mouth.
I took a deep breath and asked in a gruff voice, "That phone call just now, was it Jackson who called you?"
"Well, yeah, it was him who called me."
"Lindsay, did I have a problem with my ears and misheard it, or did you say the wrong thing in a moment of confusion and you asked your own husband to donate bone marrow to your childhood friend plus your first love?"
My face was filled with unbelievable shock.
"Hubby, Jackson said that his current condition is extremely bad, if he can't find a suitable bone marrow for the operation, he will die."
There was a pause.
Lindsay cupped my face and kissed me deeply on my mouth before she softly said to me, "Hubby, I just checked, you only need to donate a portion of your bone marrow, this will only cause very little damage to your body, but this is equivalent to getting a chance to be reborn for Jackson, he promised me on the phone that as long as you are willing, he will recognize you as his god brother."
I forced myself to hold back the anger that was gradually igniting within me and asked with a serious face, "I just want to know, the matter of letting me donate bone marrow, is it your intention, or is Jackson threatening you?"
"Hubby, this is my intention." Lindsay said.
Hearing such an answer. Although I was prepared for it, my heart still violently trembled.
After a brief second of silence.
I let out a long sigh, then said with a calm face, "Lindsay, I think you really still can't forget him. In that case, I'll make you two get together again. Just cancel the tour and go to the City Hall in the morning to get divorced."
"Wh…what do you mean? You want to divorce me?" Lindsay looked at me with a face full of shock. Her eyes were filled with incredulity.
We had been married for a year. I have favored her in every way. In the past, no matter what she asked from me, I immediately agreed without hesitation. She had thought that this time would be the same. But she never expected it turned out this way.
I would actually ask her for a divorce!
"That's right, divorce." I nodded my head and said with a serious face.
"William, did I hear you wrong? You actually...... want to divorce me for such a small problem?" Lindsay's eyes widened as she trembling ask this, anger spewing from her eyes.
"You asked me to donate bone marrow to your first love, you think this is a small problem?"
Lindsay couldn't help but yell at me, "It's supposed to be a fart, you're so healthy, even if you donate some bone marrow to him and you won't die. Do you have any sympathy left?"
"I don't agree with the donation, this is called lack of compassion?"
My heart was completely shattered by Lindsay's words.
If a stranger needed my bone marrow, weighing the pros and cons, maybe I would still consider it. But this person was Jackson Cooper! Not to mention donating bone marrow, even a fingernail cap, I would never agree to it.
"I chose to be with you because I figured out that you're good to me, you're so obedient to me. As long as it's what I want, you'll satisfy me unconditionally. That's why I insisted on marrying you in spite of my parents' objections. And as a result, you've been so good to me, but it only lasted for a year since we got married. Look at you now, you've thrown the promise you made to me at first out of the sky. You're really not in love with me!"
Lindsay was very angry and pushed me away. Then she went crazy again and dumped the packed things in her suitcase on the ground all at once.
"William, you son of a bitch! I only wanted you to save a human life, but you want to divorce me, I was really blind to see a cold-blooded and heartless bastard like you!"
Lindsay became more and more angry, the best even smashed all the cosmetics I bought for her on the floor. The originally cozy bedroom was suddenly a mess.
She didn't even wait for me to say anything.
After she finished venting, she squatted on the floor and hugged her head and cried, cursing me while she cried.
Cursed me no conscience. Cursed me bastard. Cursed me heartless human! Every word she said pierced my heart.
But I remained silent.
Her demands touched my bottom line. The point was that she didn’t even treat me as her partner. Such a woman, didn’t want my love.
Just at this time, suddenly her cell phone rang.
She calmed down a little before picking it up, "Don't worry, the bone marrow is definitely there."
Her breath was panting, "He must agree even if he doesn't! You tell the doctor to get ready, I'll have him go to the hospital for a physical checkup, just wait for the bone marrow transplant at ease and leave the rest to me."
After Lindsay hung up the phone, her eyes moved to me.
"William, I don't care if you agree or not, the bone marrow you must donate, if you dare to refuse ......"
"If I refuse, what will you do?"
"I report to warn you of rape!"
For God’s sake! A wife forced her husband to donate bone marrow to first love. How could that be?
Similar storylines I thought would only be on the internet. At least that was acted out by others.
'Fictional renditions should never be taken seriously'. And was this was really happening to me.
Looking at Lindsay, I couldn't believe that this was the woman I had spent all my efforts to spoil.
"William, don't force me to do something out of the ordinary to you, my request is also very simple, as long as you are willing to agree to donate your bone marrow to Jackson, we'll still have a good life in the future as before," Lindsay said in a cold voice.
"Cut the crap, I divorce you."
I didn't bother to talk nonsense with her and got up to leave the bedroom.
"William, you will regret this."
I didn't take this to heart.
I went to sleep at my friend's house that night.
When I returned home the next day, my father-in-law and mother-in-law, my great-uncle and brother-in-law were all there.
As soon as I entered the door, I felt an extremely strong sense of oppression coming at me. Especially the mother-in-law's fierce eyes. As if she wanted to eat me alive.
I looked at Lindsay again. Her eyes were red and her face was haggard, she looked like she hadn't slept all night.
"William, you son of a bitch, where did you go last night?"
Lindsay’s mother, Lilian Cyrus, was the first to get up, her hands crossed and she questioned angrily with a cross-eyed look.
"I went to Peter's house to sleep." I faintly returned a sentence.
"Put your nonsense bullshit."
My Brother-in-law, Louis Cyrus, used to be a social mixer, with a gangster's air on his body and a particularly loud voice.
His face was gloomy as he pointed at me and asked angrily, "Lindsay said that you cheated on her and last night when you guys had a fight, you even hit her with your hands, is there such a thing?"
I glanced at Lindsay and asked, "Louis, she told you so?"
"Do you admit it?"
"Of course I don't do it."
"William, when you guys got married, I warned you that if you dare to bully my sister, I'll waste you, how dare you turn a deaf ear to what I said, you're fucking looking for death!"
Lindsay’s second brother, Lucas, copied the ashtray on the table and stride towards me.
Looking at his stance, he didn't look like he was joking at all.
"Lucas, Louis, punch him!"
Lilian wasn't afraid of making things worse at all. She only knew that her daughter had been wronged. So she thought, I had to be taught a hard lesson.
"Brother, wait a moment." Lindsay hurriedly spoke out to stop it.
"Lindsay, what are you waiting for? Let me smash his head and he'll know he's wrong," Lucas said angrily.
"I have something to say to him."
Lindsay walked up to me, her back to her family, the corner of her mouth raised in a smug arc, then she choked, "William, go to the balcony and make things clear."
She thought I would agree.
Instead, I smiled bashfully, "No, just say it here."
"My big brother's anger isn't a joke." Lindsay reminded.
"It's fine."
"You're not afraid?"
"The big deal is to be killed and maimed by him."
"What I said last night, do you compromise?"
"No."
"I advise you to think about it seriously."
"I would donate my bone marrow to a dog, but not to your first love."
"You'll regret it!"
I laughed without saying anything.
The next second, Lindsay suddenly got emotional and pointed at me.
She tearfully said to her family, "Mom, dad, Louis, Lucas, last night William not only hit me with his hands, he ... he also ...."
Lindsay was in tears and wanted to say something.
"Lindsay, what did this bastard do to you besides beating you?"
"Lindsay, don't cry, speak out boldly, mom and dad will make the decision for you."
"Lindsay, go ahead and say it, big brother will back you up!"
Lindsay's family was furious.
Lindsay wiped off her tears and pointed at me, "William raped me!"
"What?"
"This asshole!"
"This beast, how dare he do something so unconscionable."
"It's tolerable!"
Lilian was so agitated that she picked up the fruit knife on the table and headed straight for me.
Louis hurriedly grabbed his mother's hand.
"Let me go, I'm going to stab this beast to death!" Lilian exclaimed.
"Mom, I will teach this brat a lesson, you don't need to do it, don’t let the blood splatter on you," Louis said.
He first took the knife from his mother's hand.
