Chapter 6

After a long while, Liam went back to the hospital room and saw Lillian staring blankly out the window in the bed wearily.

Her swollen face and her delicate beauty made her appear unusually fragile.

Liam's heart seemed to be pieced, as he felt more guilty for having let Lindsay slap her.

He paused and then walked over to sit by the bed. He said while holding her hand, "Lillian, are you still upset that I didn't save you in time? I swear that I'll always be there to protect. I won't let it happen again in the future."

Lillian looked at his hand, but she remembered he had used his hand to eagerly caress Lindsay.

He pulled her hand away coldly and closed her eyes. She had no response to his words.

There was no future for her and him anymore.

The next day, Lillian returned home. Liam set aside his work to accompany her and eagerly trailed after her.

He anxiously watched her discard many items that held memories of their past. She even packed her belongings in a large suitcase.

She seemed to be leaving him decisively.

Liam grew restless.

He pointed to those items Lillian had thrown into the trash and said with a pale face, "These are all gifts we exchanged before. Why are you throwing them away?"

Before Lillian could respond, he pointed at her suitcase and asked anxiously, "And there is the suitcase. Lillian, where are you going?"

Lillian replied offhandedly, "Things haven't been going well with me lately. I'm traveling for a couple of days."

Liam looked carefully at her expression, but Lillian met his gaze without flinching.

He couldn't see anything on her face and was relieved. He said with a smile, "It sounds good. It's been ages since we last traveled together."

Lillian hadn't yet had the chance to refuse when his phone suddenly rang.

Liam glanced at it, and his face subtly changed. He instinctively hid it before stepping aside to answer the call.

Unfortunately for him, Lillian had already seen Lindsay's name on the screen.

Just then, a servant handed Lillian a document. "Ms. Walsh, someone just delivered this for you."

Lillian opened it and saw the divorce certificates for her and Liam, respectively.

At the same time, her phone vibrated with a flight ticket purchase notification and a message from Jerold. "Lillian, congratulations. You are single now. Welcome home."

Lillian's eyes reddened as she put the divorce certificates into her purse.

Liam finished his call and turned to Lillian. He caught only a glimpse of the corner of the divorce certificate before it was put away.

He was uneasy for no reason and leaned in to ask, "What was that?"

Lillian didn't answer. Instead, she changed the subject. "Who called you?"

Liam's eyes flickered for a moment as he felt a bit guilty. "Sorry, honey. There's something I need to handle in the company. I can't leave, so we'll have to travel together some other time."

Lillian had anticipated that and replied calmly, "That's fine."

Since Liam didn't travel with her, he personally drove her to the airport.

Along the way, he frequently picked up his phone to reply to messages with a faint smile lingering on his lips.

He was likely already imagining how he would enjoy his time with Lindsay when Lillian was away.

Lillian's eyes grew cold. While he was distracted, she placed his divorce certificate in the glove box.

At the airport, Liam reached out to embrace her. He said gently, "Honey, don't stay away too long. I'll be waiting for you to come back."

Lillian felt the familiar embrace, and her eyes reddened slightly.

"Liam, I've got a gift for you. It's in the glove box. Make sure you check it." With that, she gave him a deep look and turned away without hesitation.

Liam stood there and watched her until she disappeared from sight. Then he returned to his car.

He was joyful and was about to reach for the glove box when he suddenly noticed a thin piece of paper that had fallen onto the passenger seat.

He raised his eyebrows and picked it up. When he read the words "Six weeks pregnant," his eyes widened in shock and delight.

"Lillian is pregnant? I'm going to be a dad!"

His heart was overflowing with joy. But before he could fully process it, his phone rang urgently.

As soon as he picked it up, he heard the anxious voice of his assistant, Richard Norris. "Mr. Anderson, there's a problem. You need to come to the office right now. The video of you and Lindsay has been leaked when you were intimate. It is the number one trending topic. Now the company account is being bombarded with negative comments, and many business partners are rushing to terminate their contracts with us. We're doomed."

Chapter 7

Liam was taken aback. "Oh no! This is a disaster."

He quickly clicked on the trending topic. And as soon as he watched the content, he was panicked.

Although Lillian knew about his affair with Lindsay, she never witnessed it. It would be bad if she watched it with her own eyes.

At that moment, he felt lucky that Lillian was on a trip and wouldn't see the viral scandal.

If Lillian watched the video, she might do something.

He hurriedly said to Richard, "Get someone to take down that viral scandal immediately. Try our best to reduce the impact, and make sure Lillian never finds out."

Richard replied frantically, "Mr. Anderson, I had asked the PR team to try to take it down as soon as it appeared. But it didn't work. The topic is still spreading widely. Some people may do the opposite thing. The more we spend to remove it, the more they spend to keep it trending."

Liam's eyes darkened with frustration. "You useless thing. Get it down at any cost. If you can't get it off, you might quit your job."

With that, he rushed to the company.

As soon as Richard saw Liam, the former hurried over and reported the situation to the latter while wiping away sweat from his forehead. "Mr. Anderson, I've had the PR department closely monitoring the viral scandal. Although we haven't successfully removed it from the top topics, it's not at the top anymore. The biggest issue now is that all our business partners are sending termination notices to us. We've already invested a lot of money. If they terminate the contracts, we will suffer great losses. We might even go bankrupt."

As Richard continued, his voice grew lower. Liam's face turned increasingly grim.

"Let me see the list of companies threatening to terminate their contracts with us."

Richard immediately handed it over, and they entered Liam's office then.

Liam glanced at it and sighed in relief. "These companies have been long-term partners with us. I'll call them to explain the situation myself."

With that, he dialed the number of the most important business partner.

The phone rang for a long time before it was picked up.

Liam uncharacteristically humbled himself. He said with a smile, "Mr. Wade, the issue on the viral scandal is a misunderstanding, and we'll resolve it soon. We have collaborated well for many years. Why would you suddenly terminate the contract? Besides, your company will also suffer a big loss if you terminate it now. Isn't it a lose-lose situation?"

James Wade scoffed at Liam's words. "Mr. Anderson, stop trying to pull the wool over my eyes. You won't be able to resolve the trending issue. We only collaborated with your company back then because of the Walsh family. Without them, how would you achieve what you have now? Now Miss Walsh has divorced you, and the Walsh family has publicly severed ties with your family. We naturally have to terminate our contracts. Do you expect us to offend the Walsh family for you? It's a joke."

Liam was dumbstruck. He instinctively explained the situation. "That's impossible. Where did you hear such false news? Lillian is pregnant with my baby. How could we possibly be divorced..."

James sneered, "You still seem to be in the dark. This viral scandal was orchestrated by the Walsh family. You've already been dumped by Miss Walsh."

Before Liam could respond, James impatiently hung up the phone.

Liam's heart pounded wildly as he shakily dialed Lillian's number repeatedly.

But no one answered his calls.

It finally dawned on him after trying dozens of times that Lillian had blocked him.

Chapter 8

Liam was in a panic. He didn't give up and called Lillian several more times.

When he found himself not getting through, he tried to use Lillian's other contact information and sent her messages.

However, no matter how many times he tried, his messages wouldn't go through. Lillian had blocked all his contact information.

He clutched his phone tightly, and his face turned pale at the thought that Lillian might have left him.

Suddenly, the office door swung open.

Lindsay strode in and flung herself into Liam's arms. She cried bitterly. "Mr. Anderson, Lillian has gone too far. She secretly filmed us and posted the video online. I'm being dragged through the mud."

Liam was shocked and pushed her away in disbelief.

He glanced at the office door and noticed his employees peeking in. They were clearly curious.

Liam's temples throbbed. "Are you out of your mind? Why would you come to the office now? Do you want to make things worse?"

Lindsay's eyes flickered.

Although she was embarrassed by the video, she was secretly joyful. Everyone knew now that she was Liam's woman. So Liam could no longer distance himself from her.

She wouldn't have to hide anymore.

With reddened eyes, she looked at him and eagerly showed her loyalty. "Of course, I came to you. Such bad things were happening, and I need to side with you through thick and thin. Lillian invaded my privacy, and I must hold her legally accountable, even if she's your wife. I won't let her get away with it."

She embraced Liam, and her chest pressed softly against his arm. She was silently enticing him as usual. "Mr. Anderson, I've heard that Lillian deliberately forced those business partners to terminate their contracts with your company. She is pressuring you. She's obviously jealous of your affection for me and is using this tactic to grab your attention."

Liam was stunned. She ignored Lindsay's seductive gestures but absorbed her words.

He and Lillian had known each other for over a decade, and Lillian loved him deeply. Now she was pregnant with his baby.

He was just having a fling. How could she possibly leave him for that?

They had argued about that before.

Perhaps he had neglected Lillian recently, which caused her to act out to capture his attention.

Lindsay remained angry.

"Hmph, the company is yours, not hers. Liam, I can't believe it can't survive without her."

Liam's eyes flickered. He now believed that Richard's talk of bankruptcy was exaggerated.

The company had survived for so many years. It couldn't be dependent on Lillian that much.

Rich men always had other women.

Lillian was carrying his baby now and was surely waiting for him to swallow his pride and beg her to come back.

Since Lillian wanted to cause a scene, he might as well use this opportunity to curb her temper. After she came back again, she'd be more compliant and stop meddling in everything.

Liam's gaze turned icy as he sat down and pulled out the list of business partners who intended to terminate their contracts with him. He started to contact them one by one.

Yet, after he spent a whole day calling them, his confidence dwindled into self-doubt.

Not a single business partner was willing to renew their contracts with him.

As he was in shock, Richard rushed in. "Mr. Anderson, Lillian's company shares have been sold. They've all been held by Emilio Moore, the CEO of the Moore Group."

Liam jumped to his feet. "That's impossible. Emilio is my archrival. How could Lillian sell her shares to him?"

Richard said with a bitter smile, "But Emilio's team is already here. They started to take over the company..."

Liam staggered and muttered, "Impossible... That can't be happening..."

Lindsay stomped her foot in anger. "Lillian is utterly malicious. She's trying to ruin both you and the company."

Liam couldn't process her words. He remembered Lillian gave him that meaningful look when she boarded the plane.

She told him that she had a gift for him.

Liam abruptly shoved Lindsay aside and rushed downstairs.

He opened the car door and frantically pulled open the glove compartment.

Suddenly, he froze.

Inside lay the divorce certificate. It was sharp and undeniable.
