Chapter 5

Lillian hung her head low, and tears silently streamed down her cheeks.

The figures standing in front of her soon left.

She waited quietly. Soon, she heard a flurry of footsteps approaching.

Soon, Liam's familiar, urgent voice reached her ears. "Lillian, I'm late!"

Liam rushed to her and quickly untied the ropes from her hands and feet.

Lillian pulled off the thing covering her face and discovered it was a pair of black pantyhose.

The white stain on them was both derisive and challenging to her.

She looked up at Liam.

He saw her red and swollen face and was a little guilty. He avoided her gaze and pulled her in his arms tightly. "I'm so sorry, Lillian. It's all my fault for being late and getting you hurt. It must be done by those rival companies. Don't worry. I won't let them get away with it. I will let those who hurt my wife pay the price."

His voice was filled with hatred, but Lillian only felt chill.

For the first time, she realized her husband, whom she had loved for so many years, was so good at acting.

The scent of Lindsay's perfume on him made Lillian almost retch.

She broke free from Liam's embrace and asked calmly, "Would you really... make those who hurt me pay the price?"

Liam turned sharply to Lillian. He sensed an underlying meaning in her words.

He felt an inexplicable unease. "Of... of course."

Lillian smiled slowly, and her smile was tinged with coldness.

"Oh, Liam, don't you know that you will stutter when you're nervous and lying?" she said inwardly.

But it didn't matter. If she couldn't rely on him, she could rely on herself.

She would make those who hurt her pay the price.

Liam noticed something was off with her expression. He instinctively held her hand and swore, saying, "Lillian, I know you're still upset about Lindsay and me, but trust me. Lindsay was just a fling. Once I get tired of her, I'll send her away." You're my wife. I only love you. You're the most important to me."

Lillian once believed his words, but she had been slapped over twenty times by Lindsay.

Liam claimed to love her, but he had just stood by and coldly watched as Lindsay humiliated Lillian.

Liam carefully carried Lillian and drove her to the hospital.

Lindsay had used considerable force to slap Lillian, and the former's sharp nails had left bloody marks on Lillian's face. Even her eardrum was injured and bled.

Lillian remained silent when the doctor examined and treated her.

Liam stayed with her closely. When the doctor mentioned her hearing might be affected, a flicker of regret crossed his eyes.

Lillian was then sent to a hospital room for observation.

She didn't want to see Liam, so she quietly lay on the hospital bed and closed her eyes to feign sleep.

Liam stayed in the room for a while until his phone rang.

He saw Lillian's eyes closed and hastily answered.

The room was quiet, and Lillian heard Lindsay's playfully flirtatious voice through the phone. "Mr. Anderson, where are you? My hand hurts, and I want you to be with me."

Liam chuckled softly, talked in a lower voice, and walked out. "I'm at the hospital. Come over."

He glanced at Lillian on the bed. After he confirmed that she was "asleep," he left the room.

As soon as the door closed, Lillian opened her eyes.

She got up and followed Liam.

Lindsay had already been outside the hospital. After Liam allowed her to go to the hospital, she quickly found her way in.

Liam pulled her in his arms and took her to a quiet corridor in the inpatient section.

Lindsay clung to him tightly and pouted playfully. "My hand hurts. Only a kiss can make it better."

Liam followed her words, kissed her palm, and then gently chided her. "You slapped her too hard. Her hearing almost got damaged."

Lindsay snorted, "Are you feeling sorry for her? Are you going to slap me for her? I knew it. You don't truly love me."

Liam pinched her nose and said in a doting tone, "Don't play coy. I only played along with you to vent your anger. Lillian's still hospitalized. Don't you know who I truly care about?"

Lindsay giggled, stood on tiptoe, and kissed his cheek. "You're the best, honey."

Her soft body brushed against his sensitive part, and he was turned on.

He gripped her waist and put her on the window ledge. He said in a husky voice, "But you hurt Lillian. As her husband, I can't let you off easily. Naturally, I have to punish you."

With that, he lowered his head and swallowed her surprised voice.

Soon, her seductive voice, mixed with the sound of having sex, echoed through the corridor. It was reminiscent of slaps echoing in the air.

Lillian stood at the stairwell corner and witnessed the absurd scene. She slowly pressed on her phone to stop recording.

She couldn't watch them any longer. She turned back to her room and vomited into a trash can until her stomach was empty.

Chapter 6

After a long while, Liam went back to the hospital room and saw Lillian staring blankly out the window in the bed wearily.

Her swollen face and her delicate beauty made her appear unusually fragile.

Liam's heart seemed to be pieced, as he felt more guilty for having let Lindsay slap her.

He paused and then walked over to sit by the bed. He said while holding her hand, "Lillian, are you still upset that I didn't save you in time? I swear that I'll always be there to protect. I won't let it happen again in the future."

Lillian looked at his hand, but she remembered he had used his hand to eagerly caress Lindsay.

He pulled her hand away coldly and closed her eyes. She had no response to his words.

There was no future for her and him anymore.

The next day, Lillian returned home. Liam set aside his work to accompany her and eagerly trailed after her.

He anxiously watched her discard many items that held memories of their past. She even packed her belongings in a large suitcase.

She seemed to be leaving him decisively.

Liam grew restless.

He pointed to those items Lillian had thrown into the trash and said with a pale face, "These are all gifts we exchanged before. Why are you throwing them away?"

Before Lillian could respond, he pointed at her suitcase and asked anxiously, "And there is the suitcase. Lillian, where are you going?"

Lillian replied offhandedly, "Things haven't been going well with me lately. I'm traveling for a couple of days."

Liam looked carefully at her expression, but Lillian met his gaze without flinching.

He couldn't see anything on her face and was relieved. He said with a smile, "It sounds good. It's been ages since we last traveled together."

Lillian hadn't yet had the chance to refuse when his phone suddenly rang.

Liam glanced at it, and his face subtly changed. He instinctively hid it before stepping aside to answer the call.

Unfortunately for him, Lillian had already seen Lindsay's name on the screen.

Just then, a servant handed Lillian a document. "Ms. Walsh, someone just delivered this for you."

Lillian opened it and saw the divorce certificates for her and Liam, respectively.

At the same time, her phone vibrated with a flight ticket purchase notification and a message from Jerold. "Lillian, congratulations. You are single now. Welcome home."

Lillian's eyes reddened as she put the divorce certificates into her purse.

Liam finished his call and turned to Lillian. He caught only a glimpse of the corner of the divorce certificate before it was put away.

He was uneasy for no reason and leaned in to ask, "What was that?"

Lillian didn't answer. Instead, she changed the subject. "Who called you?"

Liam's eyes flickered for a moment as he felt a bit guilty. "Sorry, honey. There's something I need to handle in the company. I can't leave, so we'll have to travel together some other time."

Lillian had anticipated that and replied calmly, "That's fine."

Since Liam didn't travel with her, he personally drove her to the airport.

Along the way, he frequently picked up his phone to reply to messages with a faint smile lingering on his lips.

He was likely already imagining how he would enjoy his time with Lindsay when Lillian was away.

Lillian's eyes grew cold. While he was distracted, she placed his divorce certificate in the glove box.

At the airport, Liam reached out to embrace her. He said gently, "Honey, don't stay away too long. I'll be waiting for you to come back."

Lillian felt the familiar embrace, and her eyes reddened slightly.

"Liam, I've got a gift for you. It's in the glove box. Make sure you check it." With that, she gave him a deep look and turned away without hesitation.

Liam stood there and watched her until she disappeared from sight. Then he returned to his car.

He was joyful and was about to reach for the glove box when he suddenly noticed a thin piece of paper that had fallen onto the passenger seat.

He raised his eyebrows and picked it up. When he read the words "Six weeks pregnant," his eyes widened in shock and delight.

"Lillian is pregnant? I'm going to be a dad!"

His heart was overflowing with joy. But before he could fully process it, his phone rang urgently.

As soon as he picked it up, he heard the anxious voice of his assistant, Richard Norris. "Mr. Anderson, there's a problem. You need to come to the office right now. The video of you and Lindsay has been leaked when you were intimate. It is the number one trending topic. Now the company account is being bombarded with negative comments, and many business partners are rushing to terminate their contracts with us. We're doomed."

Chapter 7

Liam was taken aback. "Oh no! This is a disaster."

He quickly clicked on the trending topic. And as soon as he watched the content, he was panicked.

Although Lillian knew about his affair with Lindsay, she never witnessed it. It would be bad if she watched it with her own eyes.

At that moment, he felt lucky that Lillian was on a trip and wouldn't see the viral scandal.

If Lillian watched the video, she might do something.

He hurriedly said to Richard, "Get someone to take down that viral scandal immediately. Try our best to reduce the impact, and make sure Lillian never finds out."

Richard replied frantically, "Mr. Anderson, I had asked the PR team to try to take it down as soon as it appeared. But it didn't work. The topic is still spreading widely. Some people may do the opposite thing. The more we spend to remove it, the more they spend to keep it trending."

Liam's eyes darkened with frustration. "You useless thing. Get it down at any cost. If you can't get it off, you might quit your job."

With that, he rushed to the company.

As soon as Richard saw Liam, the former hurried over and reported the situation to the latter while wiping away sweat from his forehead. "Mr. Anderson, I've had the PR department closely monitoring the viral scandal. Although we haven't successfully removed it from the top topics, it's not at the top anymore. The biggest issue now is that all our business partners are sending termination notices to us. We've already invested a lot of money. If they terminate the contracts, we will suffer great losses. We might even go bankrupt."

As Richard continued, his voice grew lower. Liam's face turned increasingly grim.

"Let me see the list of companies threatening to terminate their contracts with us."

Richard immediately handed it over, and they entered Liam's office then.

Liam glanced at it and sighed in relief. "These companies have been long-term partners with us. I'll call them to explain the situation myself."

With that, he dialed the number of the most important business partner.

The phone rang for a long time before it was picked up.

Liam uncharacteristically humbled himself. He said with a smile, "Mr. Wade, the issue on the viral scandal is a misunderstanding, and we'll resolve it soon. We have collaborated well for many years. Why would you suddenly terminate the contract? Besides, your company will also suffer a big loss if you terminate it now. Isn't it a lose-lose situation?"

James Wade scoffed at Liam's words. "Mr. Anderson, stop trying to pull the wool over my eyes. You won't be able to resolve the trending issue. We only collaborated with your company back then because of the Walsh family. Without them, how would you achieve what you have now? Now Miss Walsh has divorced you, and the Walsh family has publicly severed ties with your family. We naturally have to terminate our contracts. Do you expect us to offend the Walsh family for you? It's a joke."

Liam was dumbstruck. He instinctively explained the situation. "That's impossible. Where did you hear such false news? Lillian is pregnant with my baby. How could we possibly be divorced..."

James sneered, "You still seem to be in the dark. This viral scandal was orchestrated by the Walsh family. You've already been dumped by Miss Walsh."

Before Liam could respond, James impatiently hung up the phone.

Liam's heart pounded wildly as he shakily dialed Lillian's number repeatedly.

But no one answered his calls.

It finally dawned on him after trying dozens of times that Lillian had blocked him.
