Chapter 2

She wouldn't even put that bloodied man on her bed so she placed him on the sofa; the leather sofa would be easier to clean.

It wasn't easy to support him all the way here and at no point did he let go of the gun in his hand.

"Lie down, I'll get everything I need to treat your wound. Just stay still "

As someone who desired to have things under control, she had everything she would need in her house Incase of an emergency, from anesthesia and the rest. Her preventive measures were deemed paranoid, but in that moment, it only confirmed that she was right to have it all in her house.

She brought out everything she needed, moved some things out of the way, and laid down a plastic sheet near the sofa, in case the injured man's blood splattered on the floor. She sterilized everything and began my work.

"I'm going to open your shirt, try not to move any more from now on."

The man made a slight eye movement, as if in confirmation. He had no more strength. He had lost a lot of blood and needed an immediate transfusion. The hand in which she needed to transfix the blood still held the gun.

"Can I put your gun away for the main time? I need to do an improvised transfusion and you can't keep holding it. If you don't trust me, then switch hands, please."

She asked politely and amiably. She wasn't foolish enough to confront that armed dying man. The man looked at her with nearly closed eyes and handed the gun to her. She took the gun clumsily and put it on the floor. The man tried to say something but passed out before he could; She had to hurry, the blood pressure was dropping rapidly, and that wasn't good.

" You need to hold on," she said, even though he couldn't hear her.

Sweat was already dripping down his face. In that position and without all the necessary equipment, it was even more tense to continue. She was already on the second blood bag. My blood type was O-, so she knew she was a universal donor, but in that moment, she had no way to get another one and couldn't be wicked at that point, even knowing that he was probably a criminal, or God knows what.

After suturing, covering the wounded area, and checking his vitals again, she could finally stop to observe the man. His abdominal muscles were well defined, a few strands of his hair beginning to grow on his chest. His face was handsome, some strands of his blonde hair falling onto his forehead and he had a scar close to his ear. The scar even gave him a certain charm. She started to observe the details of that beautiful and virile man on my sofa. She bit the corner of her lip without realizing it until she realized what she was doing.

" Don't let your desires take over, focus, Freya, focus."

She spoke to herself in order to try to concentrate. She started to think about what she would do with that man there and who she could call. Someone should be looking for him. His family or his boss, anyone.

She rummaged through his pocket for a phone and found one,but it was dead.. luckily it was the same model as her's, so her charger would work.

She was tired. After checking on the patient again, she plugged his phone in to charge and went to take a shower. That early hours of the morning had been exhausting, her whole routine disrupted by a gang fight; first armed men at the hospital, then at herbapartment. She finished that well-deserved shower and checked the battery level to see how much it had charged. She turned on the phone in the hopes that someone would call him.

She continued drying her hair and went to check his blood pressure again. She didn't have the needed equipment to keep him connected, so she would have to check consistently. The transfusion had already been done but the Intravenous fluids were still with him. There were painkillers and antiinflammatories in that intravenous fluid, which would help a lot.

His body's blood had already been cleaned, and all the things were cleared from the living room. She sat on a cushion near the stranger, and when the time for the new inspection came, she would be close by.

Her exhaustion overwhelmed her, and she fell asleep right there. Her arms was on the couch and her head rested on it. The man next to her woke up, trying to recognize where he was and what the situation was. When he saw Freya sleeping beside him, he rembered and lifted his head slightly. He saw that his injury had been treated and bandaged, he wasn't dead, and it was thanks to the woman in front of him.

Freya's sleep was so deep that she didn't wake up when the man moved on to the couch. The man stared at her, lying there awkwardly. He brushed a strand of hair from Freya's forehead and mentally noted the delicate features of the woman who saved his life. The robe she wore was slightly open at the top, revealing smooth and fair skin. He found her very sexy.

The man turned his head back and looked at the ceiling, imagining how beautiful that skin would look, slightly reddened from bites and kisses. He shook his head and took a deep breath. This was not the time to think dirty thoughts. Probably, the lady was in a relationship, and his recent experience with love brought him these chaos.

There were more pressing matters to deal with at the moment. He had to deal with the betrayal he had suffered and needed to contact his men.

He searched his pockets, but his phone wasn't there. If it was turned off, his men wouldn't be able to track his location; probably, the lady took it out of his pocket. He tried to make an effort to get up, but the pain prevented him. If he tried to turn to support himself, he would probably wake up the lady; she seemed tired, and her sleeping there was quite cute too.

As he thought about how to get up without waking her, he heard the doorbell ringing. He closed his eyes, pretending to still be asleep. She felt the man's movement on the couch, and the noise of the visitor woke her up. She slowly opened her eyes and saw him heading towards the door.

Freya looked at the clock, and it was already pass four in the morning." Who could it be at this hour?" She wondered. She looked at the electric panel and saw some men on suits standing outside the gate. Freya became apprehensive and pressed the intercom.

" Yes, who is it?"

A man who was closer to the intercom approached.

"We've come to pick up our boss."

Freya wondered how they knew that the man was there, but remembered that she turned on the cell phone hoping that someone would call which could have allowed them to track down his location.

Freya didn't know if she could trust and open the door. What if they weren't his men? What if they were the guys who shot him? And if they killed him right there? A lot of questions ran through her mind, and she had a startle when she heard a strong and firm voice next to her ear.

" Those are my men."

Freya was startled and turned quickly, leaning against the wall near the intercom panel. Her heart rate was accelerated when she saw the man standing In front of her and so close. The man leaned his face a little closer and looked at the panel again. His face was now very close to Freya's, who was still looking without knowing what to do.

The man stared at Freya's up close and spoke again.

" Hello, they're my men. Could you please open the gate?"

Freya was somewhat paralyzed with those black eyes staring at her. She cleared her throat, looked the other way, and nodded. Then she turned around, and the man stepped back a little, allowing her to use the intercom.

She pressed a button, and the gate opened. She returned her gaze, looking at the man in front of her. The man approached Freya, took both hands and pulled her robe to cover it properly, covering her half exposed breast.

As he fixed it, he made sure that his finger brushed against the bare soft skin there, being covered. Freya trembled slightly as she felt the other's finger gliding over her skin. She looked at him again, and the man In front of her returned the gaze, smirking, and spoke.

" I don't want my men to see you exposed like this. This was a momentary indulgence just for me."

Freya looked at him even more incredulous at what she just heard.

Chapter 3

Freya opened the door, allowing the men outside to enter. All of them were armed, unaware of what they would find inside. Freya stood by the door, next to the man.

" What do you think you're doing, Alan?" The man said." Put your weapons down. There's just a woman here. No enemy."

The man reprimanded his men, causing them to lower their weapons. Freya held one arm around her own body and with the other, she held onto the collar of her robe, unable to deny that she was scared. Unlike the hospital, in her house, she was alone and no one would see if they killed her there.

" I apologize, my men need better manners and training," he apologized, trying to reassure Freya.

Freya nodded, accepting his apology.

" I saw blood bags thrown over there. Did you do a transfusion on me?" The man asked, intrigued.

" You had lost a lot of blood and needed it. I had my blood stored in case of an emergency, so I had to use it, " Freya replied, worried that the man would feel offended by having her blood used on him.

The man approached Freya, raising an eyebrow. " So now, I have your blood running through my veins, doctor? Can we say we have made a blood pact?" He finished speaking and winked.

Freya swallowed hard and looked away from the man. They moved away from the door and headed towards the couch. The man asked for his gun and Freya pointed to the table in the corner. Alan grabbed the gun and put it away. The man put on his shoes and looked at Freya one more time.

" As for the medical expenses, I would like you to give me your account details to deposit the amount," the man said , patting his pants in search of his phone.

" You don't owe me anything I didn't do this for some fees. I'm a doctor and I swore to save lives , regardless of who it was and I have done just that. Also if you're looking for your phone, it's charging right over there," Freya replied firmly, staring at the man. She didn't want anything to do with them, so she clearly doesn't want to receive any payments from them.

" Well then, how can I thank you, Doctor... We haven't properly introduced ourselves. I'm Hendrik, Hendrik Falken," Hendrik said extending his hand to Freya.

Freya couldn't help but shake Hendrik's hand. She introduced herself, "I'm Freya. The last name doesn't matter."

At that moment, she was worried. In a single night, she met two Mafia's from the most dangerous families in the city and to make matters worse, it wasn't news that they're sworn enemies. If it wasn't bad luck, she didn't know what it was.

Hendrik asked Alan for a card and handed it to Freya.

" This is my card, Freya. Call me if you need anything. You saved my life, so from today henceforth, I owe you one".

Freya took the card, looking at the number. She had no intention of calling, but it was better not to say that. She just wanted Hendrik to leave as soon as possible.

Hendrik told his men to leave and wait in the car. They all left immediately and Hendrik approached Freya. He looked into Freya's eyes and spoke satisfactorily.

" Thank you. I want you to know that whatever I just said, I truly meant it. I owe you one. Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything. If anyone threatens you, whatever the reason, I will be there in the blink of an eye."

Hendrik took Freya's hand and kissed it. He smirked and turned to leave the house. Freya felt her heart race as Hendrik said those words, looking into her eyes and kissing her hand like that.

No one had ever said something like that before, that they would come immediately if she needed them. Freya shook her head, regaining her senses. She couldn't let herself be carried away by needs, even though the man was damn attractive, seductive, and very powerful. That was just out of gratitude.

Freya ran to the door, closing it and looking through the peephole to make sure they had already left. They were just getting into the car. Freya pressed the button, closing the gate before they could change their minds and come back.

She was exhausted, barely realizing that she had fallen asleep like that next to Hendrik. Freya headed towards the bedroom to sleep. She closed the curtains and flopped onto the bed, just wanting to sleep and forget the worst night of her life.

Hendrik got Into the car followed by Alan. He hadn't even closed the door properly, and Hendrik was already giving orders.

" Get in touch with Konrad . I want all the information about Freya, from her identity number to how many times she drinks water. Don't let anything slip, I want it as soon as possible," he ordered, and Alan looked slightly intrigued but signaled that he would do it.

" I want someone watching her. If the Krieger's find out that I was saved by her. They could hurt her. If you see someone lurking around her, whether at her house or work, let me know."

Hendrik gritted his teeth, a look of hatred crossing his face as he remembered Tobias and how he was betrayed by Rico.

" Find that imbecile Rico and bring him to me alive. His betrayal won't go unpunished."

Alan and another man exchanged glances. They knew Hendrik valued loyalty, hated betrayals and deceit, and they could only imagine that he was furious. They didn't know what he might do when he encountered Rico again.

Hendrik had met Rico at one of his nightclubs. Rico seemed to be the naive and inexperienced type. Slowly, he gained Hendrik's trust, until he reached his bed.

Hendrik took care of and protected Rico, as he reported that he only had one boyfriend in his life and it was an abusive relationship. However, after 2 years, he was stabbed by Rico, who had set up an ambush with Tobias to kill him.

He found out later that day that Rico was having an affair with Tobias, and that it had been a move to deceive Hendrik. Rico was shot during the exchange of gunfire, and he didn't know if he was alive or not, but if he was, it wouldn't be for much longer. Hendrik was definitely going to kill him.

Tobias was anxious to know about Hendrik's whereabouts.

" Find that 'Drecskerl', search which hospital he is in or which alley he died. Just find him, damnit! If he's alive, he must be weak, as he must have lost a lot of blood. It'll be easier to finish the job. Don't leave Rico alone at the clinic. Even though it's ours, we can't afford any risks."

Tobias wanted to prove to his father that he could handle the family business. This task had to be finished quickly and successfully. He touched his shoulder where he had been hit by a bullet.

He remembered Hendrik and the hatred between them, but at the same time, he remembered Freya while undergoing treatment. Tobias smirked and called his 'Unterboss'

" Find out more about that doctor, the days she works, where she lives. I want a complete report. Those 'Schöne Augen' are stuck in my head."

Freya woke up well past noon and still felt tired. Maybe all that change in her routine had stressed her too much. She took a shower and decided to eat out, she needed to breathe some fresh air and get away from there for a while. Every time she passed the living room, she could see Hendrik lying on the couch. She wanted to forget about the whole hospital experience as well as her own house.

Freya looked through the intercom's screen and the external cameras to make sure no one was waiting there. She locked the doors, got into the car, and opened the gate ,still with a racing heart. She headed towards the avenue and didn't notice a motorcycle parked near her house. As soon as Freya left, the motorcycle started following her from a distance.

" Sir, the doctor has left the house, " the man on the motorcycle said.

"Alright, follow her from a distance and don't let her notice she's being followed. Don't get close or interfere, unless necessary. If Krieger's men show up, let me know immediately."

Hendrik ended the call and focused his attention again on the doctor in front of him. He was in a private clinic that they used when they got injured. He has to recover as quickly as possible from that wound. The doctor said that, even though it was improvised, the work was well done, and he recovered fast, but he couldn't exert himself too much.

Unaware that she was being followed, Freya headed to the restaurant she used to go. After sitting down, she saw a couple at the front table and immediately regretted going to that place. That was where she asked Wilhelm to be her boyfriend and where they always went to eat or celebrate something. She needed to find another place that didn't bring back memories of her ex.

Outside, the man who was following her reported to Hendrik where Freya was. That was one of the Falken's family restaurants. Hendrik smiled and told him to keep following. Hendrik called the restaurant and instructed them not to charge Freya for the meal, gave her full description, and asked them to come up with some promotional stuff or whatever.

Freya enjoyed the meal while looking at the view. She still found herself thinking about the events of the night, the fear she felt at the hospital, the way Hendrik held her robe so his men wouldn't see her exposed skin.

As she thought about the event of the previous night, her lips unconsciously curled up. Realizing she was smiling, she cleared her throat and looked around. There was no reason to smile at that gesture from Hendrik, after all, she wouldn't see that man again.

Freya asked for the bill, and the waiter informed her that it had already been paid for.

As a regular customer, she was taking advantage of a promotion.

Freya didn't find it strange and thanked them before leaving the restaurant. She was close to the mall and decided to stop by there. She looked at some shop window, bought a few things, and then decided to head back home.

Arriving at the parking lot, Freya went towards her car. She saw a sports car approaching and parking near her.

Freya felt apprehensive for a moment and saw a man getting out of the car. He was dressed elegantly, with the blazer thrown over his shoulder, sunglasses, and a cigarette in his hands.

Tobias approached Freya with a smile, and Freya took some steps back.

"If it isn't my dearest Dr. Freya. So, doctor, how have you been?" Freya looked around at the other men before responding. She tried to maintain the same calmness she had at the hospital.

" As you can see, I'm fine. Looks like you're recovering quite well."

" I have you to thank for that, doctor. Since we're here, could you join me for a coffee?"

Freya thought carefully before replying, "I'm sorry, but let's do that some other time. I have some things to take care of before returning to my shift."

Freya bid farewell and made her way to the car. Tobias's companion, who had been aggressive at the hospital, stepped forward but was stopped by Tobias, who gave him a stern look.

"Feisty, huh? But mark my words, doctor, I'll make you mine." Tobias smiled and got into the car, driving off to park elsewhere.

Freya got into the car and ran her hand over her face, trying to calm herself. She pondered if it would always be like this, having to meet with gangsters all the time. That feeling of no longer being in control was eating her up inside.

In another part of the city, Hendrik had already received the news of Freya's meeting with Tobias, which intrigued and worried him. Had Tobias found out that she had helped him, or did they already know each other? Hendrik called Konrad again.

" Find out how Tobias knows the doctor you're investigating. I want that information by today." That information bothered him in such a way that he didn't even understand why.

Chapter 4

Freya arrived at the hospital the following morning, her body feeling as if it had been run over by a truck; she had not slept well and got up feeling a bit dizzy and nauseous. She couldn't even manage to have breakfast.

She knew that all these symptoms were the result of the stress from the past few days..when she started seeing her patients, she realized she was less focused and even distracted. During a coffee Break Anika approached her.

"Hey bae, are you okay? You look a bit worn out and tired. Did something happen?" Anika asked, visibly concerned for her friend.

You look very bad, did you check if you are really okay, I mean what about a pregnancy test it hasn't been long you broke up with that idiot. Anika cursed.

"Gosh.. no, if I was pregnant don't you think that I, a doctor would know. I'm fine, I think it's just the aftermath of what happened that day in the hospital. Everything was stressful."

As much as she trusted Anika, she didn't intend to tell her about what happened at her house and the whole situation with the mafia. She couldn't risk involving her too. But what bothered her more was the pregnancy suggestion Anika had made, perhaps she should atleast get tested to be sure. She thought within herself.

" Why don't you take some time off? You've been through a lot in the past months and you need to rest."

Freya knew she was referring to the breakup with Wilhelm just a month after her aunt who was her guardian passed away, and more recently, the hospital incident with the Kriegers.

" I don't need to, Anika. I know you love me and are worried about me but I promise I'm perfectly fine. I just need to get things back in order."

"You know sometimes, things getting out of hand aren't necessarily a problem, doctor. There might even be room for better things to happen," Anika tried to cheer her up.

Freya didn't see things the same way. What good had happened since she lost her aunt or control of her life? Wilhelm left her, she faced two gangster's In the early hours of the day, and her routine, concentration and mood were a juggle.

It was around eleven thirty in the morning and Freya had just finished seeing another patient. She accompanied the patient to the reception and was signing some documents when a delivery man approached her.

"I'm looking for Miss. Freya Metzger, I have a package for her."

Freya looked up and saw flowers and chocolates in the delivery man's hands.

" That's me," Freya replied, taking the package and putting in her signature.

Wilhelm observed the scene and heard the nurses whispering at the reception.

"Wow! Look at that, receiving flowers and chocolates. Are you dating someone new and didn't tell us , doctor? So who's the lucky guy? Come on, tell us, we are so eager to know," Freya blushed and tried to contain the nurses excitement.

" Hold on, I'm not dating anyone currently.it must be from a patient as a token of gratitude, that's all."

Freya smiled and looked to the side, seeing Wilhelm standing in the hallway. Wilhelm averted his gaze and hurriedly walked away. Freya returned her attention to the nurses and the things she had received. She picked up the card attached to the flowers and read it.

"An die schönste Ärztin der Stadt. ( To the most beautiful doctor in the city). Tobias Krieger."

The smile on Freya's face immediately disappeared upon seeing that name. Could it be that she was being pursued by that man? She sighed and looked at the items again.

"Girls, why don't I leave the flowers at the reception to decorate and you can eat the chocolate." She pushed the items and walked towards her office.

None of the girls understood Freya's reaction, including Anika, who was also there. She chose to leave her alone for now, but she was genuinely worried about her best friend.

A few moments later, at the reception, it was Wilhelm who was signing some things when a tall, strong, and elegant man appeared at the reception with flowers in his hands. Two men who had accompanied him stood further away, while the handsome man approached the counter, capturing the attention of the nurses and the attention of the nurses and Wilhelm who was there.

" Good morning! Could you please tell me where Dr. Freya Metzger's office is?"

Wilhelm paused his pen in the air and looked at the man. Anika, who was also arriving there, heard and immediately responded.

"Kindly follow me, please." She said smiling.

He smiled at the girls and followed Anika.

"He's handsome! Oh my goodness! Who is that man? Could he be the one that sent the flowers earlier and now he's here to surprise her in person? I'm so jealous!"

The nurses at the reception became all excited, discussing various things. Wilhelm, on the other hand was still there, clenched his teeth, looking at the back of that man heading towards Freya's office. He dropped the pen and left the reception, appearing displeased.

After Wilhelm left, the nurses continued talking, now speculating whether Wilhelm was envious or jealous of the fact that Freya had moved on.

Anika knocked on Freya's door and opened it, only putting half of her body inside.

"Mein Schatz( my darling) more flowers," Anika said, smiling.

Freya furrowed her eyebrows, got up annoyed, and went to the door.

" I don't want any more flowers," she said, finally opening the door and was surprised to see who was there with the flowers in his hands.

" Hendrik?!" Freya said, surprised.

She didn't expect to see that man again, let alone with flowers in his hand looking for her at the hospital.

" I'm sorry, I thought you liked flowers," Hendrik said, apologizing.

" Of course I do, it's just that..."

Freya didn't finish speaking and looked at Anika, who was still there with a silly smile on her face, looking from one person to the other. Freya cleared her throat and gestured for Hendrik to enter her office. Hendrik obeyed, and Freya made a motion with her eyes and mouth to Anika, indicating that she should leave.

Freya closed the door and approached Hendrik.

" Are these for me?" Freya asked, staring at Hendrik.

" Yes, but it seems like you don't like receiving flowers," Hendrik said with a disappointed smile on his face.

" It depends on the sender," Freya replied, reaching out to take the flowers. She turned around and walked to the other side of the desk.

" Have you received flowers of recent, to say that you didn't want them anymore?" Hendrik asked, trying to figure something out.

Freya looked at him, sighing, and extended her hand, inviting him to sit down. She considered whether she should tell him, but knew that Hendrik could find out if he wanted to. However, given that Hendrik was asking directly, Freya bit her lip while she thought, and Hendrik narrowed his eyes upon noticing this movement.

Freya stared at Hendrik again, responding to his question.

"Yeah, I thought those gifts were from the same person who sent me some flowers earlier. Tobias Krieger."

Freya observed Hendrik's reaction as she answered and noticed that the other man looked tensed at the mention of Tobias name.

" So you're friends with Tobias Krieger?" Hendrik asked as if he didn't know they had met before.

Freya shook her head and stood up replying " I'm not friends with that man. I removed a bullet from his shoulder on the same night I met and removed yours, and I suspect you two must have clashed, am I right?"

Hendrik leaned on the chair to stand up, still feeling pain where he had been shot. He approached Freya and looked at her seriously.

"Yes, I was ambushed that day, and I was the one who shot him. But I advice you should stay away from Tobias, he's just a damn sadist who doesn't care about hurting people who have done absolutely nothing wrong to him."

Freya seemed to have detected a trace of concern in Hendrik's eyes.

" I have no intention of being close to him, but from what I see, he doesn't think the same way.", Freya said, sighing.

Hendrik took another step, getting closer.

" If he finds out that you saved my life that night, he may want to hurt you," Hendrik said, extending his hand to touch Freya's face but pulled back his hand.

" I won't allow him to do that. Give me your phone."

Freya handed her phone over, a little hesitant. Hendrik saved his number and gave an order.

"Call me if anything happens, or if Tobias bothers you again."

Hendrik handed Freya her phone back. She took it, looked at the saved name, looked into his eyes again, and asked.

"So, will you protect me if anything happens?"

" Even if you don't want me to, I will gladly do that."

The two of them stared at each other for a while, and Freya blushed a bit, averting her gaze from Hendrik, thanking him.

" Thank you so much Hendrik."

Freya bit her lip, and Hendrik approached closer, once again placing his hand on Freya's face, this time not pulling back.

" Don't bite your lips like that. You don't know how it makes you look."

Freya let go of her lips and felt her heart racing. With all the blood rushing to her face.

Freya stumbled, her face turning red, as Hendrik continued to gaze into her eyes. The man leaned in, as if about to kiss Freya, but they were interrupted by a few knocks on the door. Hendrik pulled away, and Anika opened the door.

" Sorry for Interrupting your sweet moment, but the director asked for you in his office," Anika said, looking at Freya apologetically before closing the door again.

Hendrik smiled and said he was already on his way out, reminding Freya not to forget to call him. He bade Freya farewell and left the room.

Freya remained by the door, watching as Hendrik walked away, Tobias and Hendrik both belong with the mafia, but for some reason, Freya felt more at ease with Hendrik than with Tobias. There was something sinister about Tobias that emanated from him.

As Freya continued to watch Hendrik's departure, her vision started to blur, and she suddenly felt a wave of dizziness.
