Chapter 4

Juan stared at their linked arms. The color drained completely from his face, leaving him looking like a corpse.

"That's impossible," Juan shouted, his voice cracking. "You're lying! You couldn't fall for someone else this fast!"

Charlize felt a wave of absolute disgust wash over her. He was so pathetic, so convinced the world revolved around his mediocre love. She needed to break his delusion into a million unfixable pieces.

She turned her body fully toward Kavon. She reached up, her hands grabbing the lapels of his expensive suit.

She pulled him down.

Kavon didn't resist. He let her pull his tall frame forward, his eyes darkening with a sudden, intense heat.

Charlize closed her eyes, went up on her tiptoes, and smashed her lips against his.

It was meant to be a quick, brutal performance. Just a clash of lips to shatter Juan's ego.

Juan stumbled backward as if he had been physically struck. His back slammed into the side of the SUV with a heavy thud.

Charlize tried to pull back.

She couldn't.

Kavon's large hand shot up, his long fingers tangling into the hair at the back of her head. He locked her in place. His other arm wrapped around her waist, crushing her against his chest so hard the breath left her lungs.

He took absolute control.

Kavon's mouth opened over hers, aggressive and devouring. He forced her lips apart, his tongue sweeping inside with a possessive, territorial heat that sent a violent shockwave down her spine.

Charlize's eyes flew open. She pushed her hands flat against his chest, trying to shove him away.

It was like trying to push a mountain. His chest was rock-hard. Her struggles only made him tighten his grip, his kiss growing deeper, more punishing, more desperate.

Juan let out a choked, humiliated sob. He couldn't watch anymore. He turned and sprinted toward the garage exit, his footsteps echoing wildly as he fled like a coward.

The sound of Juan running away snapped Charlize back to reality. Panic flared in her chest.

She bit down hard on Kavon's lower lip.

Kavon let out a low, rough groan. The metallic taste of blood bloomed between them. Slowly, reluctantly, he pulled his mouth away.

He didn't let go of her waist.

Charlize shoved him hard, finally breaking his hold. She stumbled backward, her chest heaving as she gasped for air. Her face was burning hot.

She raised the back of her hand and scrubbed it violently across her lips, trying to erase the branding heat of his mouth.

Kavon stood perfectly still. He raised his thumb and wiped the drop of blood from his bitten lip. His eyes tracked her hand as she wiped her mouth. The air in the garage instantly dropped to freezing.

"Good acting," Charlize sneered, her voice trembling slightly despite her effort to sound cold. "But you got a little too into character."

She turned her back on him and walked to her Ferrari. She yanked the door open and reached into her Hermes bag on the passenger seat.

She pulled out a leather-bound checkbook and a fountain pen.

Resting the book against the steering wheel, she scribbled a number with sharp, angry strokes. She ripped the check from the binding.

Charlize marched back to Kavon. She slapped the piece of paper flat against his chest.

"Five hundred thousand dollars," Charlize said, her chin raised in absolute arrogance. "Consider it your acting fee. And hush money. Stay out of my business."

Kavon looked down at the check resting against his suit jacket. He didn't raise his hand to take it. He just let it sit there, rising and falling with his slow, measured breaths.

When he didn't move, Charlize grabbed the check and shoved it roughly into his breast pocket.

"We are done here," she warned him, her eyes flashing.

She turned, slid into the driver's seat of the Ferrari, and slammed the door. The engine roared to life.

The red sports car shot forward, the tires screeching as it tore past him, kicking up a gust of wind that fluttered the hem of his suit jacket.

Kavon didn't flinch. He stood in the empty garage, watching the red taillights disappear up the ramp.

Slowly, he reached into his pocket. He pulled out the check. He stared at her elegant signature at the bottom.

A low, dark chuckle rumbled in his chest. The sound echoed in the empty concrete space, vibrating with a terrifying, absolute delight.

Chapter 5

A sleek, bulletproof Maybach glided silently down the garage ramp, stopping exactly two feet behind Kavon.

The driver's door opened. Silas Finch, Kavon's executive assistant, stepped out. He moved with the quiet efficiency of a ghost. He bowed his head slightly as he approached.

Silas's eyes flicked up and caught the smear of blood on Kavon's lower lip. Silas's body tensed instantly. His hand moved toward the inside of his jacket, reaching for his concealed weapon.

Kavon raised his hand. Between his index and middle finger, he held the $500,000 check.

He stopped Silas's movement without a word.

The corner of Kavon's mouth lifted into a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Cash this, Silas," he ordered softly. "Make sure every single cent clears."

Silas took the check with both hands. He glanced at the name printed on the top left corner. Charlize Chen. A flicker of profound shock crossed Silas's stoic face, but he quickly masked it.

Kavon turned and slid into the spacious back seat of the Maybach. He reached up and loosened his silk tie, pulling it free.

"I want a full background check on the Chen family estate," Kavon commanded, his voice turning to ice. "Every debt, every secret, every vulnerability. I want it in my hands before sunrise."

"Yes, sir," Silas said. He closed the door, got behind the wheel, and the Maybach vanished into the Los Angeles night.

Across the city, in a luxury penthouse overlooking the glowing skyline, Charlize kicked off her stilettos.

She walked barefoot across the thick Persian rug, heading straight for the marble wet bar. She grabbed a crystal glass and poured three fingers of neat whiskey.

She threw her head back and swallowed the burning liquid in one gulp.

The alcohol burned down her throat, but it didn't wash away the ghost of the kiss. She reached up, her fingers lightly touching her swollen lower lip. The aggressive, cedar-scented heat of that man was still clinging to her skin.

Charlize slammed the glass down on the marble counter.

She was not a woman who left things to chance. A man with that kind of physical presence and technical skill didn't just casually attend a Beverly Hills wedding. He was dangerous.

She walked down the hallway and stopped in front of a heavy oak door. She unlocked it and stepped into her private study.

She walked to the massive mahogany desk, pressed a hidden button under the rim, and a secret compartment slid open. Inside rested a matte-black laptop with no brand logos.

She opened it. The screen flared to life, scanning her retina and requiring a complex fingerprint sequence.

Once logged into the deep-web intelligence network she had built from the ground up, she pulled up the global search interface.

Her fingers flew across the keyboard. She typed: Kavon Velasquez.

She hit Enter.

The progress bar flashed across the screen. Three seconds later, the screen went completely black. A massive red warning box popped up in the center.

TARGET DOSSIER ENCRYPTION LEVEL: SSS. ACCESS DENIED. INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE.

Charlize's eyes narrowed. Her heart gave a hard thump. Her clearance level was at the absolute top of the civilian and corporate intelligence ladder.

She grabbed the encrypted satellite phone off her desk and hit speed dial.

"Kaylynn," Charlize said the second the line connected.

"Boss," Kaylynn Mercer's sharp voice came through. "What do you need?"

"I need you to use Kestrel Dynamics' core network. Break through the firewall on a man named Kavon Velasquez. Dig up everything."

There was a pause on the other end. The sound of rapid typing echoed through the phone. Five minutes passed in heavy silence.

"Boss," Kaylynn finally said, her voice tight with rare anxiety. "I can't. The firewall protecting his data is military-grade. If I push any harder, I'll trigger the highest-level international security agency's alert protocol."

Charlize gripped the phone tighter. "What can you see?"

"Only the public cover," Kaylynn replied. "He's the second son of the Velasquez family. He went missing twelve years ago. He just returned to the country this week. That's it. The last twelve years are a complete black hole."

Charlize hung up the phone. She leaned back in her leather chair, staring at the red warning box on her screen.

Twelve years missing. Military-grade protection.

She remembered the way he had looked at her in the smoke. The way his eyes had locked onto her mole.

A cold chill crawled up her spine. He wasn't just an arrogant billionaire. He was a predator. And for some reason, he was hunting her.

Chapter 6

Morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Chen family estate dining room.

Preston Chen sat at the head of the long mahogany table, viciously cutting into his fried eggs. His face was still pale and drawn from the disaster of the previous day.

Emelia, wearing a soft, pink cashmere sweater, walked gracefully to his side. She placed a cup of freshly brewed black coffee near his hand.

"Dad," Emelia said, her voice dripping with sweet concern. "Please don't let my sister ruin your health. She's always been like this. You have to take care of yourself."

Davina, sitting to Preston's right, immediately dabbed at her dry eyes with a silk handkerchief. She let out a fragile sigh. "It's my fault, Preston. I must have done something to offend Charlize. I just want this family to be peaceful."

Preston slammed his fork down. The silverware clattered loudly against the porcelain plate.

"Don't blame yourself, Davina," Preston barked, his face flushing with anger. "That girl is a worthless, ungrateful menace. She is dead to me."

He reached over and patted Davina's hand. "To make up for yesterday, I'm taking you to Rodeo Drive this afternoon. You can pick out that diamond necklace you wanted."

Davina's eyes lit up with raw greed, though she quickly hid it behind a demure smile. She leaned her head on his shoulder. "Oh, Preston, you're too good to me."

Before Preston could reply, the heavy dining room doors burst open.

The elderly estate butler stumbled into the room, his face completely drained of color. He was gasping for air.

"Sir!" the butler stammered, pointing a shaking finger behind him. "The... the Velasquez family... they forced the gates!"

Preston shot up from his chair. His knee hit the table, knocking over his coffee cup. The dark liquid spilled across the pristine white tablecloth, dripping onto the floor.

The sound of synchronized, heavy footsteps echoed in the grand hallway.

Two massive men in black suits stepped into the dining room and stood on either side of the doorway.

Kavon Velasquez walked in.

He wore an immaculate, steel-gray suit. His presence sucked all the oxygen out of the room. He moved with the terrifying grace of a king inspecting a conquered village.

Behind him walked Silas, followed by four men in identical suits carrying thick leather briefcases. An elite legal team.

Emelia's breath hitched. She stared at Kavon's chiseled jaw, his broad shoulders, and the raw, dominating power radiating from him. Her heart began to pound frantically. She quickly smoothed her hair and pushed her chest out, trying to catch his eye.

Preston wiped his sweaty palms on his trousers and hurried forward, bowing slightly. "Mr. Velasquez! What an unexpected honor. How can the Chen family serve you?"

Kavon didn't look at Preston. He walked past him, went straight to the head of the table, and sat down in Preston's chair.

Silas stepped forward. He pulled a thick stack of legal documents from his briefcase and dropped them onto the table with a heavy thud.

Kavon crossed his long legs. He rested his hands on his knee, his dark eyes finally sweeping over the terrified family.

"The Velasquez Group is expanding into the Los Angeles market," Kavon said, his voice cold and flat. "We require a local strategic partner."

Preston's eyes widened in disbelief. A partnership with the Velasquez family? It was a golden ticket. It would make him a billionaire ten times over. He rubbed his hands together eagerly. "We would be incredibly honored, sir. We are at your disposal."

Kavon's lips curled into a sneer. "There is one condition for this partnership."

Emelia's heart leaped into her throat. She stepped forward, biting her lower lip, looking at Kavon through her eyelashes. A marriage alliance. It had to be. She was the only suitable daughter left in the house.

Davina gripped the edge of the table, her eyes shining with manic excitement. If her daughter married into the Velasquez family, she would be untouchable.

Preston quickly pulled Emelia forward by the arm. "Mr. Velasquez, this is my youngest daughter, Emelia. She is obedient, highly educated, and-"

Kavon's eyes shifted to Emelia.

The look in his eyes wasn't lust or interest. It was the look a man gives a cockroach before stepping on it.

"Get out of my sight," Kavon said softly.

Emelia's hopeful smile froze. The blood drained from her face. Tears of utter humiliation sprang to her eyes. She shrank back, trembling.

Kavon ignored her. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, his gaze locking onto Preston like a sniper's laser.

"The woman I am going to marry," Kavon stated, his voice leaving absolutely no room for debate, "is Charlize Chen."
