I was sent abroad to work. After three years, I finally helped my fiancee secure a highly challenging and significant client.
When I returned home, she drove me out of the house.
Her eyes gleamed with disdain as she looked at me while carrying a child.
“I’ve got a husband and a child. You went abroad and left me all alone for three years. How could you come back to me? You’d better come to your senses and resign from the company tomorrow!”
She trampled upon my dignity and love.
Then, I realized that our five-year romance had come to an end.
Disappointment gripped me when the plane touched down, and I had yet to see Yulia Coleman, my fiancee.
But still, I went home excitedly at the thought that she might have a surprise for me.
However, I saw a row of male shoes on the shoe rack the moment I opened the door.
I even heard a baby crying from the bedroom.
Surprised, I got closer and heard Yulia’s gentle voice.
“The baby seems to like me. She cries when I don’t hold her. That simp is still working hard for us abroad. Don’t you find it ridiculous, dear?”
My hand shook as I opened the door. I saw Yulia leaning against Zayn Little’s shoulders. Zayn was her first love. She even held a baby in her arms. The sight struck me dumb on the spot.
“Yulia, where did this baby come from…”
When Yulia saw me barge into the bedroom, she kept a straight face and rebuked me.
“What are you doing back? Close the door now. I’m frail after giving birth. Are you trying to get me sick?”
I stood stunned on the spot. However, Yulia kept interrogating me impatiently instead of offering me an explanation.
“What’s wrong with you, Albert Jordan? Go abroad to work now! What are you doing here?”
Yulia deliberately raised her hand to show me the large and shiny diamond ring on her hand.
Zayn also wore a gleaming wedding ring on his ring finger.
When the realization dawned on me, I trembled furiously.
“Yulia, shouldn’t you tell me what’s going on with you and this man? And what about the baby?”
Yulia carried the baby and stood in front of Zayn.
“Stop yelling here. You’ll scare the kid. Go get a hotel room. I’ll talk to you when I’m free.”
Then, she dragged me and drove me out of the room. She slammed the door hard in front of me.
Anger burned in me. My bewilderment and fury made my ears buzz.
I could not figure out why Yulia had turned into a stranger over the past three years when I was working hard for the company abroad.
I had proposed to Yulia three years ago.
But she kicked the roses all over the floor. She even scolded me fiercely in front of everyone.
“We haven’t dated each other for long. How could you try to tie me down to you with a marriage? You know how much I love my freedom!”
She stamped and crushed the flowers on the floor. She also ruined the scene that I had set up for my proposal.
I did not fly into a rage because I loved her deeply. Instead, I was depressed for a while.
But Yulia did not care about me. On the contrary, she threw a plane ticket at me.
“It’s the most difficult time for the company now. Stop grieving. You’d better try your best to win over those foreign clients. When the company is successfully listed, you can come home. We’ll get married right away.”
Yulia promised me a wonderful reward just to reassure me and make me go abroad.
She even shared a song with me on the day I went abroad, which was rare. It was a song about a girl wanting to marry her boyfriend.
I thought it was a code word between us, as well as her promise to me.
I slept only three hours a day while abroad to achieve that goal.
Consequently, I lost a lot of weight and got a lot weaker. All I wanted was to help the company get listed sooner.
But in return, Yulia had built a warm family of three with another man. At the thought of Yulia’s dazzling diamond ring, pain overwhelmed me. I had difficulty breathing as I shed desperate tears. I knocked on the door in despair.
“Yulia, I’m very sick. Could you take me to the hospital…?”
However, Yulia remained in the room, unmoved. It was as if my welfare had nothing to do with her. I could not understand why Yulia was with Zayn again.
Zayn was Yulia’s neighbor who had grown up with her. They were childhood sweethearts.
They were close, having spent a lot of time playing with each other from a young age. Even their parents joked that they would become a couple once they grew up.
When Yulia was in college, she flew to another city to meet Zayn to confess her love for him. She also brought along the sports shoes that she had bought with all of her savings.
However, she saw Zayn hugging a rich young woman in college the moment she stepped into the college.
Zayn had looked at the gift in Yulia’s hands contemptuously.
“You’d better keep this low-class trash for a beggar.” The rich woman had mocked Yulia.
“How could you seduce my man?”
Ashamed, Yulia left in a panic. She did not look to see where she was going. When she rushed to the road, a motorbike knocked her down.
A car was about to run over her as the driver had failed to brake the car in time.
I happened to be passing by. I jumped out of the car and pulled her back, saving her and risking my safety.
She had grabbed my hand and told me how much she loved Zayn. She cried and complained to me about the pain of being lied to.
Her passion for Zayn moved me. I thought she was a loyal and passionate woman. I also assumed that I would be her only love since I had rescued her.
But later, I realized that it was just wishful thinking. I had flattered myself.
Yulia had been betrayed and abandoned. It was unforgettable for her. Later, the same experience dawned on me.
I weakly leaned against the door.
After a while, Yulia opened the door impatiently.
“You’re shameless! How could you refuse to leave?!”
My pale lips trembled as I grabbed her trouser leg.
“At least, you should explain to me about what’s going on between you and Zayn…”
Yulia withdrew her leg contemptuously.
“Come to the company tomorrow if you want to get to the bottom of it. You’ll know by then.”
After being treated at the hospital for a night, I went to the company early in the morning, exhausted.
But my appearance filled the employees of the company with hatred. It was odd, as they had respected me very much in the past.
“How could Miss Coleman let this man come back? She’s too kind.”
“If I were her, I would have long gotten him killed. He’s shameless.”
Those employees expressed their disdain for me in front of me.
I coldly interrogated them. “What do you mean by that? Make it clear. I’m not shameless. It’s all because of me that this company is this great now. Why can’t I come back?”
A friend of mine who had once worked hard with me scolded me harshly.
“You fooled around with those foreigners abroad and revealed confidential information about the company. Everyone knows now. Miss Coleman nearly went bankrupt because of you. Bad people like you should get sick and die abroad.”
When the others noticed the senior figure of the company rebuking me, they echoed his words.
“If Mr. Little hadn’t helped Miss Coleman in that critical moment, we would have all lost our jobs! And now, they have a kid. But you came back to live off Miss Coleman again!”
Everyone kept raising their criticisms.
I became flabbergasted and could not process what I had heard. I could not understand their words. I had never given up the company’s confidential information or tried to ruin Yulia. Instead, I had tried my very best to work hard for the company abroad.
But their words gave me a sudden realization.
I wondered if Yulia had something to do with the project information being stolen.
“If it weren’t for Mr. Little’s proposal that helped to pacify the significant client abroad, we would have been doomed!”
Those words helped to confirm that Yulia was the mastermind behind it. But before I could defend myself, my former friend raised a cup of coffee and splashed it on my face.
The deep humiliation made my blood boil. I fought back by punching him.
Then, I heard Yulia’s roar…
