Nara's body froze.
The creature lunged at her.
Instinct took over. She tried to run, but her legs refused to obey. Her chest burned, lungs screaming for air. The glowing eyes of the predator, red like molten fire, glinted from the shadows, moving faster than her mind could process.
A shadow slammed into the wolf mid-air.
The force knocked Nara to the ground. Dirt and leaves filled her mouth. Pain shot through her shoulder as she tried to push herself up.
"Get back!" a deep voice thundered.
Kael.
He landed between her and the wolf. Shadows wrapped around his form, thick, alive, swirling like black smoke that lunged at the creature. The red-eyed wolf yelped, recoiling from the force that threw it back.
"You shouldn't be here!" Kael shouted, fangs bared, eyes silver and glowing. "Why weren't you under protection? I said stay in the packhouse!"
Nara didn't answer. She could barely breathe. She didn't even understand how she had ended up in this situation. She only knew one thing:
She was helpless. Helpless and alone-except for him.
Kael lunged at the wolf, claws slicing the air. The beast snarled and leapt, dodging him with terrifying agility.
It was fast. Too fast.
Kael growled, hitting it with brute strength. The creature yelped and scrambled back. Nara could hear the impact echo in her bones. Blood? She didn't dare look.
Instead, she felt the bond thrumming in her chest, sharp and insistent. It pulled her attention to Kael. To the danger surrounding him. To the fire in him.
He's hurting. He's tired. He shouldn't be doing this alone.
Her hands twitched. She didn't know why, but she wanted to help. Something inside her screamed-I can do something. I have to do something.
Kael glanced at her. His silver eyes, bright and piercing, locked on hers.
"Nara!" His voice sliced through the fear, sharp and commanding. "Now!"
Her body responded before her mind could protest. She crouched, muscles shaking, and focused on the bond-the strange pull that refused to leave her chest. Her hands brushed against the dirt.
Then it happened.
A burst of energy, white and bright, shot from her palms. It slammed into the red-eyed wolf. The creature screeched, stumbling back, smoke curling from its fur. Its eyes went wide with shock.
Kael's jaw dropped.
"What-how-?" he muttered, lunging forward to protect her.
But Nara didn't step back. She didn't run.
The fire in her chest spread outward, radiating from her hands. Every red-eyed wolf within twenty feet staggered, forced to retreat. She didn't understand how she had done it. She only knew it had worked.
Kael stared at her, a mixture of awe and something else-something deeper-flickering across his face.
"You..." he whispered. His silver eyes glimmered in the moonlight. "You're... awakening."
Before she could ask what he meant, the white wolf-the one older, taller, more terrifying-stepped into view.
It had been hiding, observing. Waiting.
"You've done more than I expected," it purred. Its voice was soft but dangerous, echoing in her mind. "The Shadowblood awakens faster than anticipated."
Nara's stomach twisted.
"Shadowblood?" she whispered. "I don't... I don't understand."
Kael growled low in his throat. "Don't listen to it," he snapped. "It's lying."
The white wolf tilted its head. "I am not lying, Alpha Kael. The child you rejected is of the line that could either save you... or destroy you. And she doesn't even know it yet."
Nara's heart pounded. She tried to speak, tried to ask questions, but her throat went dry.
Kael's silver eyes softened, just slightly, as he stepped closer. "Nara," he said, voice low and urgent. "Listen to me carefully. You are not safe here. Not for one more second. If they catch you unprotected again..."
He didn't finish. The unspoken threat hung between them like a knife.
"I... I can't-" she started, fear clutching her throat.
"Yes, you can," Kael snapped. "And you will, because I will not let you die. Not today. Not ever."
Nara swallowed. His words... they weren't comforting. They were fierce, like steel cutting through fear. Somehow, she understood: she had no choice. He would not leave her behind.
But then the white wolf stepped forward, fully revealing itself under the moonlight.
Its fur gleamed white, but its eyes... oh, its eyes were red and burning, filled with hunger and knowledge that chilled her to the bone.
"You belong to us tonight," it hissed. "And there is no Alpha here who can save you."
Kael's stance hardened. Shadows wrapped around him like armor, every muscle coiled, every sense alert.
"Try me," he growled.
The white wolf snarled, and with a swift movement, it charged.
Kael met it head-on, claws flashing, shadows twisting like living blades around him.
Nara froze, chest tightening, fear suffocating her. She wanted to help, wanted to run, wanted to scream. But she had no strength. None.
Her body refused to move.
And then she felt it-the bond inside her chest, pulling, burning, demanding action.
Without knowing how, she crouched again. Her hands glowed with that strange energy. The bond screamed, and she let it surge outward.
The white wolf staggered back, hissing. Its companions, watching from the shadows, yelped and lunged, only to stumble as Nara's energy expanded.
Kael's jaw dropped again, eyes wide. "You... you're controlling it..."
Nara didn't answer. She had no words. She could only feel the power inside her, raw and untamed. It frightened her... and thrilled her... all at once.
The wolves stopped. They hesitated, exchanging quick, silent signals.
Then the white wolf stepped forward again, slower this time. Its voice was calm, almost amused.
"You cannot stop what is coming," it said. "You cannot hide the truth of your blood. The Shadowblood line has awakened. And tonight... the prophecy begins."
Nara froze.
"Prophecy?" she whispered.
Kael's face darkened. He stepped in front of her, protective as ever. "Ignore it. I don't care what they say. You are mine to protect. And I swear, no one will touch you while I breathe."
The white wolf smiled, teeth glinting. "Bold words, Alpha. But even you cannot stop destiny. Soon... you will have to choose. Will you claim her, or will she be taken from you forever?"
Nara felt her chest tighten. She didn't understand the words, didn't understand the magic, didn't understand what the prophecy could mean.
All she knew was this: she was not strong. She was not ready.
And yet... somehow, for the first time in her life, she had power.
Her energy pulsed again, brighter, stronger, answering the white wolf's challenge.
Kael's eyes softened as he noticed her trembling hands glowing with raw force.
"You're stronger than you know," he said quietly.
Nara blinked, tears in her eyes. "I... I don't even know what this is."
"You will," Kael said, voice low, dangerous, and commanding. "But first... we survive tonight."
The white wolf and its pack began to circle them, moving with calculated precision.
Kael's shadow wrapped around him tighter, growing longer, sharper. Every movement was a promise of death.
Nara felt her pulse quicken. Her energy pulsed in response, stronger than ever.
This was the moment her life changed forever.
She was no longer the weak Omega everyone had ignored. She was... something else. Something dangerous. Something hunted.
And she would not be able to run from it for much longer.
The wind shifted. The red-eyed wolves lunged.
Kael growled.
Nara screamed.
And together, they leapt into the fight.
The forest was chaos.
Branches snapped, earth shook, and the air was filled with growls and roars. Red eyes glowed in every shadow. The white wolf and its pack circled like predators, calculating, waiting for a weakness.
Nara's hands still glowed faintly from her earlier burst of energy. Her heart pounded in her chest like a drum, her breathing ragged. She couldn't control the magic-she didn't even know what it was. All she knew was that it had saved her... and Kael.
Kael's massive wolf form was a whirlwind of shadows, faster than Nara's eyes could follow. Claws ripped through rogue after rogue, fangs sinking deep, powerful enough to crush bone. Yet, even he struggled to keep all the attackers at bay.
"Nara!" Kael barked in her mind, his voice commanding. "Focus! Use it-now!"
Her hands shook. She wanted to obey. She needed to obey. But fear clawed at her, fear she had never felt before. The wolves weren't ordinary enemies-they were different. Dangerous. Not like the bullies or packmates who had ignored her all her life. These wolves smelled like ancient magic.
One of the smaller red-eyed wolves darted toward her. Its claws were sharp, eyes blazing. Nara froze. The bond inside her screamed.
You can do this. You must.
Her hands surged forward. Light exploded, surrounding the wolf like a net of silver fire. It yelped and slammed into the ground, disoriented. The other wolves stopped, watching her cautiously.
Kael's jaw tightened. He had seen her potential, but he had never seen it controlled like this.
"You're stronger than I thought," he growled, eyes glowing. "But don't lose control. You could hurt yourself-or worse, me."
Nara's heart skipped. Hurt him? How could she ever hurt Kael?
But before she could dwell on that, the white wolf stepped forward, its fur gleaming like moonlight, eyes blazing.
"You awaken faster than I predicted," it said softly, voice echoing inside her head. "But raw power without control is dangerous. You will destroy yourself if you continue like this."
Kael growled low, a dangerous sound in his throat. "Don't speak to her. I will teach her control."
The white wolf tilted its head. "Alpha Kael, your mate is awakening. You may not control this one. The prophecy is already in motion."
Nara's stomach dropped. Mate? Prophecy? She couldn't breathe. Her head spun with questions she didn't even dare ask.
"Enough," Kael snapped. He shifted midair, landing between Nara and the white wolf. The shadows around him twisted into massive tendrils, striking at the red-eyed wolves like living blades. They yelped and scattered.
Kael's eyes softened for just a moment as he looked at Nara. "Stay behind me. Do not-do not-try anything else until I tell you."
Nara swallowed hard, shaking. Her legs felt weak, but she obeyed. She stayed behind him, trying to steady her trembling hands.
The white wolf's eyes glinted. "You have only delayed the inevitable. They will come for her again. Stronger. Smarter. The Shadowblood is not safe among mortals."
Kael's jaw tightened. "Then we fight. And if you touch her, I will tear you apart."
The white wolf laughed softly. "We shall see."
With that, it and the remaining pack vanished into the shadows, leaving the forest eerily silent except for the sound of Kael's heavy breathing and Nara's ragged gasps.
Hours later, Kael led Nara back to the packhouse. She was quiet, exhausted, and her mind buzzed with confusion and fear.
"You need rest," Kael said, his voice low. He shifted back into human form as they approached the cabin-like structure of the packhouse. In human form, he was even more intimidating. Broad-shouldered, dark hair falling over sharp silver eyes, with a presence that demanded attention, he was everything Nara felt she was not-strong, powerful, untouchable.
"I... I can't rest," Nara whispered. "They'll come back."
Kael's eyes softened slightly, almost imperceptibly. "Then you will train. Control it. Or they will take you the next time."
Nara froze. "Train?"
"Yes. You have no idea how powerful you are. And if you can't control it..." His gaze hardened. "You'll die. And I won't forgive myself for it."
Her throat tightened. Train with him? She didn't even know how to shift properly. She couldn't even fight without shaking.
"You... you want me to-"
"Yes," Kael interrupted. "I will not let you be a weak Omega. You are my mate, Nara. And I will not let anything happen to you. But you need to grow stronger... faster than you think possible."
Nara bit her lip. Mate? The word made her chest ache, but she couldn't think about that now. She had to survive. She had to learn.
Kael led her to a clearing behind the packhouse. Moonlight washed over the area, highlighting the forest around them.
"Shift," Kael commanded. "Now. Or I will make you."
Nara's hands shook. Her chest burned as the bond inside her screamed, pulling at her essence. Shadows and memories of her mother, of her family, of her unknown bloodline surged within her.
Her body began to transform-fur sprouting along her arms, claws extending, her senses sharpening. Pain lanced through her body, but Kael's presence grounded her.
"You're doing it," he said, voice low, almost approving. "Now... focus. Control the energy. Channel it."
Nara's hands glowed. Light pulsed around her, brighter than before. But this time, she tried to direct it, pushing it forward instead of letting it explode.
It worked. The ground trembled, the trees shook, and a low, humming power emanated from her. Kael's eyes widened.
"Good," he said, stepping closer. "Again. Harder. But do not lose yourself."
Nara's fear turned to determination. She could do this. She had to. If she failed, Kael could be in danger. She could be in danger.
Hours passed. The moon shifted in the sky, and her body ached. Every muscle burned. Every nerve screamed.
Kael watched her the entire time. He corrected her form, guided her energy, and pushed her beyond what she thought was possible.
By the end of the night, Nara collapsed onto the ground, exhausted, trembling-but she was smiling.
"I... I did it?" she whispered.
Kael knelt beside her, eyes glowing faintly. "You survived. That's enough for now. But tomorrow... we push harder."
Nara nodded weakly. "Tomorrow..."
He studied her for a moment, then shifted back into wolf form. His silver fur glimmered in the moonlight, his eyes scanning the forest.
"They will come back," he said softly, almost to himself. "And next time... we'll be ready."
Nara shivered. She didn't know what frightened her more-the thought of the white wolf returning... or the pull of the bond inside her chest.
Kael's voice cut through her thoughts.
"Come. I will take you inside."
Inside the packhouse, the fire crackled. Nara sat in a chair, exhausted and sore, trying to process everything.
Kael paced in front of her. He stopped suddenly and leaned closer.
"You are not what you think," he said. His voice was low, dangerous, and commanding. "You are not weak. You are the last Shadowblood. And I will not let anyone, anyone, take you from me."
Her chest tightened. The word "mate" echoed in her mind again.
She wanted to argue. She wanted to deny it. She wanted to scream that she was nothing.
But Kael's presence left no room for words. Only truth.
And the truth was... she felt safe.
Safe and terrified all at once.
A sudden noise outside the window snapped her attention. She jumped to her feet.
Kael's ears twitched. He growled low in his throat.
Nara's hands trembled. The bond screamed inside her.
Something-or someone-was outside. Watching. Waiting.
The forest seemed to hold its breath.
Kael's silver eyes met hers.
"Get ready," he whispered. "This isn't over. Not even close."
Nara's heart raced. Fear and adrenaline surged through her.
And then she saw it-glimmering eyes in the darkness.
The white wolf had returned.
The wind howled outside the packhouse as Nara's heart pounded in her chest. Every instinct screamed that the white wolf was close, circling them, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Kael stood at the window, muscles tensed, his shadowed form almost glowing in the moonlight. Every sound in the forest set his ears twitching, every rustle a potential threat. He had shifted into his wolf form, massive and imposing, yet his eyes, silver and blazing, never left her.
"You need to trust me," he said, voice low, rumbling like distant thunder. "I will not let them take you."
Nara swallowed. Her legs felt like lead, her hands still trembling from the training last night, her mind still buzzing from the mysterious bond pulsing inside her chest. She wanted to trust him. She needed to. Yet fear clawed at her, and every nerve in her body screamed that she was unprepared.
Kael's eyes softened for the briefest moment. "I know this is frightening. But fear isn't weakness. It's a weapon if you wield it. You are stronger than you think. Tonight... you'll prove it to yourself."
Her pulse raced. Prove it? She barely survived yesterday. And now he expected her to face them again?
"Where do we start?" she whispered, voice trembling.
Kael's gaze sharpened. "Outside. You're going to face them tonight. I will guide you, but you cannot hesitate. Hesitation kills."
Nara's stomach twisted. She wanted to protest, to hide, to collapse into the nearest corner and disappear. But she couldn't. Not while Kael was there, standing, unwavering, as though his strength alone could shield her.

The forest clearing outside was bathed in silver moonlight. Shadows twisted and shifted with the wind. Nara felt the bond inside her chest pulse violently, almost demanding action. The white wolf's scent was thick in the air-predatory, calculating, intoxicatingly dangerous.
Kael crouched beside her. "Shift," he commanded.
Her hands glowed faintly. Her body shivered. Pain and power collided inside her as she transformed. Her fur sprouted along her arms, claws extending, senses sharpening. The bond screamed louder, demanding release, demanding control, demanding recognition.
Kael's voice cut through her thoughts. "Focus. Channel it. Remember what we practiced."
Nara clenched her fists, energy spilling from her palms in wavering pulses. She concentrated, forcing it outward, shaping it, guiding it like Kael had taught her.
The forest responded. Leaves swirled, earth trembled, and the air vibrated with raw energy.
The red-eyed wolves emerged from the shadows, more numerous than before. Nara counted eight, surrounding them like a deadly net. At their center, the white wolf-tall, magnificent, terrifying-stared at her, its red eyes piercing the darkness.
"You've awakened," it said, voice soft, almost amused. "But awakening is only the beginning. You will learn soon... control comes at a cost."
Nara's hands shook. "I... I won't let you hurt anyone."
Kael growled low, baring his fangs. "You will not speak. You will fight. And you will survive."
The white wolf laughed, a low, menacing sound that echoed through the forest. Then it lunged.
Kael moved first, shadows striking out like living spears, hitting the wolf and sending it back several feet. But there were too many others. The red-eyed wolves circled faster, claws flashing, teeth bared.
Nara's bond screamed. Now. Use it. Protect him. Protect yourself.
Her hands glowed brighter than ever. Energy surged outward, forming a barrier around her and Kael. The wolves hit it, yelping in shock as the force threw them back.
Kael's eyes widened, impressed despite the situation. "Good. But don't let it overwhelm you. Control it!"
Nara nodded, teeth gritted. She had to focus. She had to survive. Her hands moved, energy pulsing in waves, striking the wolves one by one. Each attack required concentration, precision, and instinct she didn't fully understand.
The white wolf lunged again. Faster. Deadlier.
Nara reacted instinctively. A blast of white energy shot from her palms, hitting the wolf mid-leap. It yelped in surprise, staggering back. Her pulse raced. Her body trembled.
Kael's voice echoed in her mind. Good. Keep it steady. Breathe. Control it.
Nara realized something. Every time she focused, the bond pulsed in rhythm with her heartbeat. It was... alive. Responsive. Guiding her.
She took a deep breath, grounding herself. She could feel Kael's presence beside her, his strength steadying her, his energy mingling with hers in the bond. For the first time, she didn't feel weak.
The white wolf hissed, circling, watching. "Impressive... but raw power is nothing without experience. You have only scratched the surface of your potential."
Nara's stomach twisted. Potential? What does that mean? How powerful am I?
Kael growled, moving closer. "You're doing fine. But this is only the beginning. Focus on controlling the flow. Not destroying them."
She nodded, trembling, and focused again. Energy pulsed from her palms, shaping into solid constructs-spikes, barriers, blades of light. The wolves hit them, yelped, and staggered back.
Kael's jaw tightened. "Good. But remember, the white wolf isn't just testing your power. It's testing your limits. And they are closer than you realize."
Suddenly, one of the smaller red-eyed wolves leapt at her from the side, claws outstretched. Nara reacted instinctively, thrusting her hands forward. The wolf yelped and slammed into the ground, knocked unconscious.
Kael's eyes narrowed. "Good reflexes. But don't rely on instinct alone. The bond will guide you-but you must make the decisions."
Nara nodded again, though her mind was spinning. Every strike, every attack, every pulse of energy drained her body. Her muscles ached, her claws burned, and sweat stung her eyes. Yet, for the first time, she felt... alive.
The white wolf advanced, stepping forward, its presence suffocating. "You are strong," it said, voice echoing in her mind. "But the Shadowblood has never faced what comes next. Can you survive when your power turns against you?"
Kael growled low. "Ignore it. Focus on me. Focus on survival."
The white wolf tilted its head. "Very well. Observe closely, Alpha Kael. Observe the awakening."
It lunged again-faster, stronger, more precise. Nara braced herself, energy glowing brighter than ever. The bond screamed inside her chest, demanding release, demanding mastery, demanding recognition.
She pushed, shaping the energy into a massive shield around her and Kael. The white wolf slammed into it, growling, staggering back.
Kael's eyes widened. "You did that..."
"I... I didn't know I could!" Nara gasped. Her chest burned, legs trembled, but her energy continued to flow.
"You are more than you think," Kael said quietly. "Stronger than they expected. And stronger than you realize."
Nara's bond pulsed wildly. Her energy surged outward, striking the surrounding wolves, forcing them back.
The white wolf hissed, retreating a step. "Interesting... very interesting. The child is more than a weapon. She is a storm."
Nara's breath hitched. Storm? Me?
Kael stepped closer, voice low, dangerous. "Listen to me. They are testing you. You will survive tonight. But this... this is only the first trial. Control your power. Trust the bond. Trust yourself."
Nara nodded, feeling something inside her ignite-strength, courage, determination. For the first time in her life, she didn't feel weak.
The white wolf's voice echoed once more in her mind. "The prophecy begins... and the Shadowblood awakens. But every gift has a price."
Before Nara could respond, a loud roar echoed through the forest. More wolves were coming. Faster. Closer.
Kael growled, stepping forward, ready to fight. "Get ready. This is only the beginning. You survive this, and you learn control. Fail... and you die."
Nara's chest tightened. Fear and adrenaline surged through her veins. She clenched her fists, glowing with energy, her senses alive, sharp, ready.
The first wave of attackers charged.
Nara met it head-on.
And for the first time... she felt unstoppable.
