🐺 CHAPTER FIVE - The Oath Awakens

~1,050 words | intense, emotional, rising attraction + danger

Lyra barely slept.

Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Lysa's furious stare... the glowing birthmark on her arm... and Kael's face when he whispered:

"My wolf didn't choose her."

She didn't know what that meant.

She didn't know what to do with the heat that rose in her chest whenever Kael looked at her like she was both a weapon and a weakness.

When dawn finally bled over the mountains, Lyra sat up, exhausted.

A soft knock sounded.

"Lyra?"

Kael's voice.

Her heart jolted.

She opened the door to find him leaning against the frame, dark hair messy, silver eyes bright in the morning light. He looked less like a ruthless Alpha and more like a man who hadn't slept either.

"We leave in five minutes," he said. "Training ground."

Lyra blinked. "Now?"

"Now," he repeated. "The sooner you learn to control what's waking inside you, the safer you'll be."

Control what's waking...

Her stomach twisted.

"Kael... what's happening to me?"

He exhaled and looked away. "I'll explain once we test your limits."

"Test my limits? I don't even know what I am."

His eyes flicked back to her, darkening with something unreadable.

"You're the only thing standing between me and a prophecy written in blood," he murmured.

"And you're not ready to hear all of it yet."

Before she could respond, he turned and walked down the hall.

Lyra followed him outside, where the cool morning air cut through her nerves.

Wolves were already awake-some in human form, training; others shifting and sprinting across the valley. They all paused when Lyra passed.

Whispers.

Stares.

Fear.

Curiosity.

Kael shot one glare across the grounds, and the whispering ended instantly.

He led her to a secluded clearing surrounded by ancient stones carved with lunar runes.

"Stand here," he said.

Lyra stepped onto the circle of stones. Immediately, she felt something-an energy in the earth, pulsing softly under her feet like a heartbeat echoing her own.

Kael faced her.

"Show me the mark."

Lyra pulled back her sleeve.

But something was different.

The mark wasn't faint anymore.

It glowed brighter-warm and alive-like molten silver flowing under her skin.

Kael's breath hitched.

"It's awakening faster than I expected."

"Is that bad?"

"Not if we can control it. But if we can't..." His jaw tightened. "It will draw every enemy within miles."

Lyra swallowed hard.

"Okay," she whispered. "Tell me what to do."

Kael stepped close-too close. His heat sank into her skin, his shadow blending with hers.

"Close your eyes."

She did.

"Focus on your heartbeat," he said softly. "Slow it... steady it... feel the ground beneath you."

Lyra inhaled deeply.

"I feel... something. Like the earth is humming."

"That's lunar energy," Kael murmured. "It responds to you."

The air shifted.

Warmth spread up her arm. The birthmark glowed even brighter.

Lyra gasped. "It's burning."

Kael grabbed her wrist gently. "Steady your breathing."

"It hurts-"

"Look at me," he commanded.

Her eyes snapped open.

His silver gaze locked onto hers-intense, grounding, sharp enough to cut through the panic rising in her chest.

"Breathe with me."

He inhaled slowly, his chest rising.

Lyra mirrored him.

The pain dulled.

The glow steadied.

Something pulsed between them-soft, electric.

Kael's expression shifted, his jaw tight, eyes darker.

The air thickened.

"Kael..." Lyra whispered.

He dropped her wrist suddenly, stepping back as if burned.

"We're done."

Lyra frowned. "But I barely started-"

"I said we're done," he growled, turning away.

She stared at him, stunned.

"What did I do wrong?"

His shoulders rose and fell with a deep, frustrated breath.

"You didn't do anything. I did."

Lyra stepped toward him.

"Kael-talk to me."

"No," he said sharply. "Not about this."

"Why not?"

He turned, eyes blazing with something raw.

"Because when you tap into your power, it calls mine. The Oath responds. And I-"

His voice shook.

"I almost shifted."

Lyra froze.

Shifted?

Because of her?

Kael dragged a hand through his hair. "I can't lose control around you. Not when I'm supposed to protect you."

She stepped closer anyway.

"Then teach me. Train me. Don't push me away."

His eyes softened, just barely.

"You don't understand what you're asking."

"Then explain it."

Kael inhaled slowly-painfully.

"When the Oath awakens, the Alpha and the Seer draw power from one another. It amplifies everything-strength, fear... attraction."

Lyra's breath caught.

Attraction.

"You mean... you feel something when I-when we-" She swallowed. "Is it the magic or-"

"It doesn't matter," Kael cut in harshly.

"Because anything I feel for you, or anything you feel for me..."

His voice broke, rough and low.

"...could get us both killed."

Lyra's heart twisted.

"But what if we're stronger together?"

Kael's eyes went wild for a moment-like his wolf was clawing at the surface.

"You don't know what you're saying, Lyra. If I lose control... if the Oath pushes too far..."

He stepped back, trembling.

"It could force a bond neither of us can undo."

"A bond?" she whispered.

"An eternal one," he said quietly.

"Wolf-mated. Soul-bound. Life-tied."

Her heart slammed painfully against her ribs.

"And you don't want that?" she whispered.

Kael closed his eyes, agony flickering across his face.

"I want too much," he admitted.

"And that's the problem."

Before she could take a single step toward him-

A distant howl cut through the air.

Then another.

Then-

BOOM.

A shockwave rippled through the ground beneath their feet.

Kael's eyes snapped open, all emotion replaced by deadly focus.

"They found us."

"Who?" Lyra breathed.

Kael grabbed her hand, pulling her close.

"Darkfangs. And they're coming straight for you."

🐺 CHAPTER SIX - A Lesson in Fire & Silver (Complete)

The training ground was silent now, the only sounds Lyra could hear were her own ragged breaths and the faint hum of the Oath pulsing through her veins. Sweat dripped down her face, mixing with the early morning dew. Her arms ached, legs trembled, and every muscle in her body screamed from exertion-but beneath the exhaustion, there was a strange thrill.

The silver mark on her arm glowed softly, pulsing in rhythm with her heartbeat, a living reminder that she was bound to Kael in ways she could barely understand.

Kael stood a few feet away, watching her, his expression unreadable. His jaw was tight, the tension in his shoulders suggesting the wolf within was restless, struggling against the Alpha's control. For a moment, he looked almost human-just a man assessing the progress of someone he cared deeply about.

"You're stronger than I expected," Kael said quietly. "Stronger than any Seer I've trained-or fought beside-since the Oath awakened."

Lyra blinked, catching her breath. "Stronger... than anyone?" she asked, voice shaking. "Even you?"

Kael's eyes softened for a moment, just enough for her to see the weight of his emotions behind the silver glare. "Even me," he admitted. "But strength alone is not enough. Control is everything. The Oath reacts to emotion, to fear, to desire... and if either of us falters, it will punish both of us."

Lyra swallowed hard, feeling the pull of his words. "I... I think I can control it," she said quietly, though uncertainty tugged at her.

Kael studied her, silver eyes intense. "You're learning fast. Too fast for your own safety. The Darkfangs will not wait for you to be ready. They will hunt, they will destroy, and the Oath will not forgive mistakes."

Lyra's chest tightened. She felt the weight of her responsibility pressing down on her. She wasn't just a student or a survivor. She was the Seer, the center of a bond that could protect-or destroy-the pack.

He extended his hand toward her. "Come. Rest. We train again at dusk."

Lyra took his hand, feeling the surge of energy-the Oath-pulse between them like fire. It was frightening, consuming, and utterly impossible to ignore.

As they walked back to the lodge, Lyra's thoughts churned. The Oath was more than a bond-it was a force, alive, demanding, feeding off every emotion she and Kael felt. And she could feel it responding to him as strongly as it responded to her.

Her chest tightened as she glanced at him. Kael was not just her teacher. Not just her protector. He was her anchor. Her Alpha. The one the Oath had chosen for her. And she felt it-desire, fear, fascination-all coiling inside her like the silver light under her skin.

That night, lying beneath the pale glow of the moon, Lyra traced the crescent mark on her arm with her fingers. The silver glow painted her room in soft light, and she felt the heartbeat of the Oath thrum through her veins.

The bond was dangerous. Wild. Unpredictable. But it was hers-and Kael's.

She clenched her fists, determination settling over her like armor. Tomorrow, she would train harder. She would learn to control the energy that surged inside her. She would embrace the bond, the power, the connection to Kael-whether she was ready or not.

Because the Oath was awake, and it would not be ignored.

And Lyra knew, deep in her bones, that nothing would ever be the same again.

🐺 CHAPTER SEVEN - Whispers of the Darkfangs

~1,100 words | suspense, action, rising danger

The wind carried a chill that whispered of danger. The valley, normally serene under the moonlight, seemed restless-trees swaying with secrets, shadows stretching unnaturally, and distant howls slicing through the quiet night.

Lyra shivered, pulling her cloak tighter around her shoulders.

Kael was already a few steps ahead, moving silently through the trees. His eyes glowed faint silver, scanning the darkness for threats. Every so often, he would pause, sniffing the air, ears twitching.

"Something's out there," he murmured. "Darkfangs."

Lyra's stomach tightened. She had heard the name before-Alpha enemies, ruthless, cruel, hunters of her kind. Yet seeing the intensity in Kael's eyes made it feel real. Immediate.

"How many?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he placed a hand on her shoulder, firm, grounding. "Enough to kill anyone unprepared. But we're ready. You... need to trust me."

Lyra nodded, even though her hands trembled. She felt the pulse of her mark-a soft, steady glow against her skin, warning her, guiding her. Kael's presence was like a tether, keeping her anchored while the fear threatened to pull her under.

They reached a small clearing at the edge of the forest. Kael crouched, gesturing for her to do the same. "Stay close. Watch the shadows."

Lyra obeyed, heart hammering. She felt alive in a way that terrified her. Her pulse matched the rhythm of the land, her senses sharper than she had ever felt. The Oath thrummed inside her veins, connecting her to Kael's wolf in ways she didn't fully understand.

Suddenly, movement. Shadows flickered between the trees-silent, fast, predatory.

Kael's silver eyes snapped to them. His muscles tensed, claws flexing. "Darkfang scouts. Three. Stay behind me."

Lyra swallowed hard, clenching her fists. She could feel something rising inside her-an instinct, a warning. She wanted to flee, but she also wanted to fight. The energy in her veins was new, strange, terrifying... but intoxicating.

The scouts emerged fully-three Darkfang warriors, eyes black as night, bodies taut and ready. One growled, low and cruel. "The Seer hides. Alpha Draven cannot protect her forever."

Kael's wolf growled low, a sound that made the ground vibrate. "You're far from your territory. Leave now, or I will make you regret it."

The lead Darkfang laughed, a cold, sharp sound. "We're not leaving. The Seer belongs to us. And the prophecy will be ours to bend."

Lyra's heart skipped. The prophecy... Kael had never fully explained it. All she knew was that she was at the center of it, and if the Darkfangs captured her, Kael could die-or worse.

The fight began before she could think.

Kael shifted, black fur streaked with silver, towering over the scouts. He moved with deadly grace, claws flashing, teeth bared. Two were thrown to the ground in seconds. The third darted toward Lyra.

Her instincts kicked in. Without thinking, she raised her hands. The mark on her arm flared, light spilling out like liquid silver. The Darkfang stumbled, yelping as energy pulsed from her fingertips.

Kael froze, eyes widening in surprise.

"You... you did that?" he demanded, voice low, incredulous.

Lyra's cheeks flushed. "I-I don't know how. I just-"

The third Darkfang recovered, lunging again. Kael intercepted, knocking him down with a single strike, his wolf's strength overwhelming.

Lyra's chest heaved. She was trembling, exhilarated and terrified at once. The Oath thrummed in her veins, connecting her to Kael in ways she didn't fully understand. She felt his anger, his focus, his protection-all coursing through her like fire.

Kael shifted back to human form, panting slightly. He glanced at her, silver eyes blazing. "You're stronger than I expected," he admitted, voice rough. "But control it. Every surge, every spark... it could kill both of us."

Lyra nodded, gripping her arm, feeling the residual energy pulse. "I... I think I can manage it."

Kael stepped closer, the tension between them palpable. The air was thick with something neither dared to name, yet both could feel. Desire. Fear. Power. The Oath binding them tighter with each passing second.

A rustle behind them made them spin. More Darkfangs had appeared-larger, faster, more dangerous.

Kael growled. "You stay here," he ordered, voice low, deadly. "Do not step out of the circle until I say."

Lyra's stomach tightened. She wanted to protest, wanted to fight beside him-but instinctively obeyed. She watched as Kael moved like shadow and silver, striking down enemies with lethal precision. The ground shook under his power, and the air around him shimmered with the energy of the Oath.

Her chest ached watching him. Not just from fear, but from something else-an undeniable pull toward him.

When the last Darkfang fled, disappearing into the night, Kael returned to her side, panting, tense, still dangerous even in human form.

"You did well," he said quietly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Better than I could have expected."

Lyra's heart thudded painfully. "I... I just reacted. I didn't mean to-"

Kael's gaze held hers, silver eyes softening just slightly. "No. You didn't just react. You saved yourself. And me."

The words made her chest tighten.

"Lyra..." he murmured, voice low, almost pained. "This... this Oath... it's not just about protection. It's about connection. About sharing strength, sharing risk... sharing life."

Lyra swallowed, unable to speak.

Kael stepped closer, the danger of the battlefield gone but replaced by something equally dangerous: the intensity of his gaze, the pull of the Oath between them, the unspoken tension simmering like fire.

"I need you to understand," he said softly, brushing her cheek with the back of his hand. "If the Darkfangs find you unprepared, it could end both of us. And if that happens... there's no coming back."

Lyra's lips trembled. "I... I understand."

Kael nodded once, sharp, decisive. Then he leaned down, just slightly, close enough that their breaths mingled. "Good. You'll need that understanding... because what's coming next will test everything-your body, your mind... your heart."

Her pulse raced-not from fear alone-but from him, from the Oath, from the undeniable pull between them.

And she knew, deep down, that nothing would ever be the same.
