Kayla's POV
FIVE YEARS LATER
“What the hell is wrong with you? Can't you clean?” My manager said to me as he hit my head really hard. “There's still crumbs of food everywhere.”
“I am sorry sir. I will sweep the floor again.” I replied meekly as I left for the broom.
Yes, that was me. That was me five years after I was legally separated from my husband and given three million dollars.
Despite the pain of losing the love of my life, the three million consolidation money was something I thought I would use to push my life further and take care of my triplets.
However, my poor approach towards business made me invest in the wrong trade and after it crashed, over seventy percent of my money went with it. I tried other startups, but none of them worked. Before I knew it, in a little more than a year, I was back to being broke and jobless. Everything I had was gone and my babies, who were not even up to five months old needed my care now, more than ever.
We went back to my parents house in the countryside. There were no job offerings for me, but out of pity, one of my mom's friends employed me to work as a cleaner in her restaurant.
The pay was menial, but it helped me provide enough for my children, with help from my parents of course.
Things began turning real soar after the death of the restaurant owner and her son taking over as the manager.
He not only slashed everyone's salary by half, but was cruel and wasted no time in deducting from the already halved salaries if we did anything wrong.
“I can't do this again, mom. I can't. The stress is too much!” I told my mother when I felt uneasy giving up.
“You have to manage. If you give up, what happens to the children?” She asked me. “If you're alive and they can barely feed, what do you think will happen if you stop?”
My triplets were honestly the only people keeping me going. They weren't strong in the cruel world. I remember watching the wedding ceremony of Baron and Giorgia. The wedding I had planned with him, I saw him give it to someone else.
“You will all pay for this.” I said in my heart as I watched. My plan was to invest so much that I would rival his company and fight him. I wanted vengeance for what they did to me, but now that everything was gone, that dream had to die.
“Why are you so late today?” My manager asked with his cruel voice as I entered the restaurant thirty minutes later than the stated time.
“I am sorry sir. I had to take my babies to the hospital because they were sick. I came as quickly as I could.” I explained to him.
“Well, that's not my problem. Five dollars subtracted for lateness.” He said to me. I couldn't have this. It was getting too much and I felt myself losing it. I still tried to keep calm though.
“Please sir, you can't do this to me. You have already taken more than half my salary for this month.” I pleaded with him.
“That is a sign of how incompetent you are.” He replied rudely. “Now, get to work, else I take another.”
“Must you be so wicked?” I spewed out without caution. He turned to me, shocked that I was saying that to him.
“I can fire you for that nonsense you just spilled out of your mouth.” He threatened. “You know what? I quit! You can keep your stupid business to yourself!” I said at the top of my voice, then left the restaurant.
Honestly, he had it coming. He had been a dick for years and I just couldn't take it anymore. Deep down though, I wondered where I would get a new job because it was almost impossible finding one there.
My mom wasn't having it either. Called me a fool for letting the job go and insisting I had to go back and beg the manager.
“You have to, because if you don't, they'll be nothing for your children to eat. You know my work doesn't bring much home.”
Instead of me going back to work for someone, I vowed to do my own business for the second time, praying hard that I make it this time. Since I didn't have any money with me, I decided to take a loan with my business insurance to support me this time.
I wanted to start up a nanny agency. I would be training and recruiting up thirty nannies at a start, then I would send them out to families, the payment would be made to the company account, from where I'll pay them.
With support from my mom and friends, I started and launched my new agency.
Golden Care Nannies.
We hoped to grow and become the best with time. It wasn't smooth but with my persistence, the business was growing successfully.
It was time to pay the loan shark, so I got a call. It would be them asking for their money, I was even going to give them without using my insurance. I was doing well now, even though not at the peak, but anyone would know I'm doing well.
“Hello, is it Kayla?” A masculine voice came up on the line.
“Yes,” I snapped. “I'm pretty sure you're one of the staff of Green Loans?”
“No, the CEO.”
“Urghh!” I gasped. The CEO? Why will the CEO call me, is it that my loan is the highest or I said I wasn't gonna pay it?
“Well, sorry. I know you're surprised on getting this call, I don't mean to make you more surprised by telling you it's your ex-husband on the line.”
“What?”
“Yes.” Suddenly there was a brief pause.
“What do you want?” I scolded, feeling both confusion and anger. “Baron, what–”
“Please calm down, Kayla. I was going through the list of medium loans on my register and I saw your name. So I decided to call.”
“I can see you're doing well and you're the chief nanny. I–” He dragged.
“I had a little request.” He finally spoke out.
“What's that?” I replied, sounding infuriated. “I have a job for you. I want you to come back to my estate, but as a nanny and I will be paying you five hundred dollars every month. I'm a billionaire, I have the money but my wife just died and my daughter who's in grief has been rejecting all her nannies.” He proposed.
“I'm paying you the money I owe your company, if I knew you were the CEO of the company, I would have gone somewhere else.” I sighed, ending the call immediately.
I switched off my phone but anytime I put it on, I'd see calls from Baron. It came to a point I became pissed.
What's all these?
“Okay, I'll use my influence as a social media influencer and public figure to promote your company, my daughter can even become your brand ambassador for free through taking care of her–”
He didn't finish his statement when I began fantasizing about this. Baron has over a billion followers on social media, and is one of the most popular business moguls.
Having such a business deal with him will skyrocket my business success.
I sighed. “Well for this, I will do it.”
When the set time came, I left for his estate, telling my mother I would be sending her money to take care of my triplets who were with her. I couldn't take them with me because I was still hiding that information from their father. I wasn't coming the second time to win him even when I felt he was trying to win me. It's strictly business.

I entered the house again after five years and everything still felt the same just that the atmosphere surrounding us was different, cold and aloof from my end.
“Giorgia was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer and was carrying a baby. She had a serious complication during childbirth and died so I need you here.” He said to me.
“Why can't you get other nannies?”
“I got nannies but my daughter rejected them all.” He snapped.
“We are keeping this relationship a hundred percent professional.” I said.
I scoffed at him. “I never intend on making up with you in the first place. As you promised, I am just here for the money and the promotion in exchange for my services only.” I replied to him.
He took a pause and turned to me. I understood his eyes.
“Just hope she likes me so I can get this business deal!” I slowly whispered.
Baron's POV
“Follow me!” I asked her and she obeyed, though reluctantly. I could feel the striking connection between us two, but she seemed not to want any of that again.
She had to put on her cold mask for me, so I wouldn't even think of trying to get her to fall for me again. When I cleared the air, she also responded in a way that sounded like she moved on from our love a long time ago. I just hoped it was for the best.
We went upstairs to my daughter, Fiona's bedroom. Fiona had never liked any nanny I brought to take care of her, so I wished she would like Kayla because that would really relieve my stress and I would be able to focus on work more.
When I entered the room, she was on the floor, drawing. “Meet your new nanny, Kayla.” I said to her. On seeing Kayla, it seemed she had seen someone she once knew.
She stood up at once and ran to Kayla, hugging her very tightly. Kayla hugged her back.
“What's your name, baby?” She asked my daughter. I was stunned, her cold attitude didn't reach up to my daughter. Only me.
“Fiona.” Fiona replied.
“Isn't that a lovely name for a lovely girl?” Kayla told her, causing her to grin even more.
The connection was so smooth, I was impressed and excited at the same time. I didn't believe this would happen, I didn't even believe that my daughter would like her. It was all like a mystery to me.
“Please make sure you take care of her properly, as though she was your own child.”
“Well, I'm doing my job as a good nanny, not what you are saying.”
At first, I feared that Kayla would take out the anger she had for Giorgio on Fiona, but from how they bonded, I was convinced that wouldn't be the case.
On my way downstairs, I suddenly got into a brief flashback. My sudden loss flew into my mind, the very reason I asked for a nanny for my daughter.
I got a call from the hospital. “Hello.”
“Mr. Baron, your wife sent for you. She says she wants to see you.” I was told.
I wanted to go, but when I saw the time, I couldn't. “Please, I have to be at an urgent meeting now. I will see her when I am done.” I related to the caller.
“But she…” the caller wanted to explain, but I stopped him halfway.
“Please, just do as I have said. I will be there as soon as I get the chance to.” I told him, subsequently ending the call before he could say the next thing.
I had to attend the meeting because of how important it was for the company. I had been trying to connect with Gervais for a while now. They were the biggest automobile maintenance company in the world and they finally agreed to meet with us after months of reaching out and I couldn't waste this opportunity.
I was already running late, so I went as quickly as I could. In no time, thanks to my swift driver, I was at the meeting place and began my presentation.
As I spoke, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It rang so loud, it disturbed the scene. I took it out and ended the call.
“Sorry for that.” I told them. Few seconds after I began speaking again, the phone rang. The same number. I was boiling with anger, when Prisha George, the daughter of the owner of the company, who was representing him looked at me with a soft smile. “You can go take your call, we'll wait.”
I left to the other side of the hall and answered. I was so angry about the interruption and ready to blast the caller, but what I heard weakened me.
“Mr. Baron, your wife has passed away.” My phone slipped out of my hands and smashed against the ground, catching everybody's attention.
I couldn't believe what I just heard. I ran out of the hall at once and headed straight to the hospital. At this point, my mind wasn't on whether I would get the partnership or not, but on my wife who had just lost her life.
“Where is she? Where is my wife?” I yelled out as I stormed into the hospital, looking restless.
“I'm sorry sir. She had a complication and her body kept failing so many times, she couldn't respond to our revival operations. That was why she had us call you. She wanted to see you one last time after finding out she wouldn't make it.” The doctor told me.
Now, I broke down. I was angry with myself. I chose work over Giorgia and now, I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye.
“Would you like to see her?” The doctor said to me. I couldn't do that. I didn't have the courage to look at her, after what I knew I had done. I left at once, driving as fast I could.
The reality was still dreamy to me. The doctors said they were trying all they could and she was looking promising. However, the child she was carrying made the risk level high and now that she was dead, the nine months old baby had died in her too. How was Fiona going to take the news that her mother had died? How were we going to move forward without her?
It was so unbearable for me even though it's days after she passed on. I wanted to get drunk all of a sudden, and return back here to the estate to sleep.
I once had a thing for drinking, but Giorgia made me promise her I would stop because she hated the smell of alcohol and I did. Now, however, that felt like the only place I could find solace.
I had bottles, more than I could count and more than I ever had before. Everything felt hollow, like a part of me had been taken away. I stayed here at the bar till midnight.
“We are closing sir.” The waiter said to me when it was time to luck up. By then, it was past 11pm.
I staggered to my car, half aware of my environment. Thank goodness I could drive home safely.
On opening the door, the first person I saw was Kayla. She has a nightgown on. Not revealing, but something that reminded me how sexy she was. My mind immediately began playing my late wife, Giorgia, how she often stood by the door to welcome me when I return home. This grief reflex feeling incited a very deep horny feeling in me that I began to advance towards Kayla. I ended up kissing her, grabbing her face.
She struggled and pulled out of my grip.
“I am sorry, but you're drunk. Besides, I'm your daughter’s nanny!” She told me. Looking at her closely, I saw a glimpse of Giorgia. I couldn't help but kiss her deep.
“No! Giorgia, it's you. I can see you, I want to have this sweet moment with you.” Before I knew, tears began to stream from my eyes. “Please Giorgia, be with me. Don't leave me.”
She was looking intensely at me, the pity and sorrow in her eyes. Like she was waiting for it, she obliged and we moved to the couch like that. My feelings became a bit distorted as soon as she accepted, it was now swaying between Giorgia and my ex-wife, Kayla.
At first, I could feel her resisting me, but I guess when she saw how badly I was grieving, she opened up to me.
“Let's go to the room.” She said softly into my ears. Although I was drunk, I was still conscious enough to know my daughter could come down and this view wouldn't be healthy for her.
I quickly lifted her up and went upstairs.
I dropped her slowly on the bed and kissed her softly. Her night was linen and smooth to touch, which aroused me the more.
I took off the dress and went straight to sucking her boobs. I could hear her moan as I did. After a while, I went down, pulling her undies down, so I could have a view of the sweet pussy that was once mine.
I couldn't wait to devour her and devour, I did. At one point, I wanted to be inside, so I took off my dress, ready to penetrate.
She stopped me. “Are you sure you want to do this?” She asked me.
“I can't control this feeling.” I pleaded with her.
“No, not like that. I just don't want us waking up tomorrow and releasing this was a mistake. Your wife just died, I know you are in pain and want relief.” She said to me.
“And this is how I want to mourn, I see the image of Giorgia, I want to have her this last time in my imagination.” I replied.
“Then you can have me as you wish.” Her words elated me, making me remember all the intimate times I shared with each other.
With every stroke, the memories reawakened and with every moan, the feelings came back.
I went on and on over her, both of us, looking directly at each other.
She had her hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me close to her. It had been a while since I had this experience.
Since Girogia fell ill and was admitted to the hospital, I hadn't been with any woman, so it all felt new to me.
The fact that I was doing it with Kayla, made it seem like I was experiencing our first sexual encounter all over again.
After about thirty minutes of thrusting, I finally came, spewing my fluid into her and letting out a loud sigh.
I laid on the bed, breathing heavily.
“Goodnight.” She said to me, standing up and trying to dress up.
“Why don't you spend a little time with me before you go to your room?” I requested.
Like she was waiting for it, she hopped on the bed again and we cuddled with each other.
None of us said a word, but allowed the silence to speak for itself. After a while, we both fell asleep in each other's arms, just like old times.
Kayla's POV
Waking up the next morning, Baron wasn't on the bed. He was on the room’s couch, seated with eyes closed, lost in his own thoughts.
I never got the chance to look at him as closely as I was doing now. He was still as handsome as I remembered. Sitting up, he opened his eyes and looked at me.
“Hey….” I said to him.
“Good morning.”
“I am really sorry for what has happened to you. I think it's safe to say you really needed the sex and last and we can act as if it never happened.” I told him.
I took it like I was doing him a favour. He looked really miserable that night and if I didn't let him in, it would have probably worsened the whole thing.
At the same time, it was good having a man inside me again. My love for him, something I thought I had lost, began finding its way to me again. I didn't want to fall for him ever again after what he did to me but slowly, I found this feeling creeping into me. I attempted to fight it.
I could tell he felt the same way about me, but that wasn't the focus now. His wife just died, carrying his baby and he was grieving. I had to give him his space. Besides, I wasn't so cheap to fall easily for a man who kicked me out of his life.

I will never see my mommy again, will I?” Fiona asked as she cried bitterly. She was the one I felt for the most.
I once had a relationship with Giorgia. She was my stepmom, before she took my man away from me. I hated her and wanted to avenge her, but I would never wish her death, especially when she was leaving this angel behind.
I sat beside her and cuddled her, drawing her close to me. “Your mother can never leave you. She will always be with you, looking down and helping you when you need her help.” I was consoled.
“How about you? Will you leave me too?” She asked me. The question made me feel cold. It took a while before I could answer.
“I will never leave you. I will always be here by your side, making sure you grow to become the successful woman your mom would have wanted, okay?” I assured her.
She nodded as she held on tightly to me.
The burial was a private one and took place a week after. Only Baron's family and Giorgia’s family were allowed in.
I spent all day holding Fiona's hands and being by Baron's side.
Fiona cried uncontrollably when her mother was lowered into the ground and I had to carry her.
Baron wore a dark lens, but I could see the tears roll down. He loved her so much and seeing them suffer within themselves, I could not hold myself from crying too. I remembered the times I spent with Giorgia. We literally grew up together and shared a lot of great memories.
The funeral was quick and no media person was allowed in. In less than two hours, everything was over and we went back home.
At home, there was a meeting. It was strictly for members of the Maxwell’s family, so only Baron and his family members were around. Fiona couldn't be there because she was too young, so she sat with me in the bedroom.
They were having a lot of arguments, but the words were not clear to me. I wanted to hear what they were saying, so I went to eavesdrop.
It turns out they were arguing about the business. “Please, it's my wife's funeral. We can at least respect her and not talk about business just for once!” Baron kept saying.
He was the new CEO of the company, but the elderly, his father, mother, uncles and aunties always made decisions for him.
“Calm down, Baron, every gathering, regardless of why, is a good space to talk about business.” His mother replied.
“And speaking of how to push the business forward, we have someone we want you to meet.” His mother said. Just then, Prisha George, the lady he had a meeting with the day his wife died entered the room from another entrance.
“Good afternoon everyone.” She said to them.
Baron was confused as to why she was there. I could see him look at them, unsure of what to say or do.
“You must have met her before, the daughter of Mr. George, owner of the biggest automobile maintenance company, the ones we have been trying to get to partner with for over a year.” His mother explained.
“I know mom. I saw her at the meeting.” He replied faintly.
“The family has agreed to our deal. The only condition is that you have to marry Prisha here.” His mother was fast to add.
Baron stood up at once. “What the hell! Are you being serious, mom? My wife died a week ago and we buried her today. I can't simply do this!” He raged at them.
“Listen to your mother, son. She knows what's best for you and the company. You have to marry her.” His father said calmly.
I was sad. It was as though my wish to make Baron suffer for divorcing me wasn't going to work. If I'm the only woman in his life, he will want me but then I'll use that privilege to ignore and reject him.
This development however meant that once again, I wasn't going to have him for myself.
Just then, from nowhere, Fiona hit the door open and entered inside. I tried to stop her, but she was too fast. I had no idea she was there with me.
Seeing her, Baron tried to hold her back. “Go back to your room, Fiona. This conversation is not for you.” He said to her.
“I know what you guys are talking about. They want this woman to be my new mommy, but I do not like her. I want Aunty Kayla to be my new mom. I want you to marry her dad!” She said boldly.
Everyone turned to her in shock, then me. I couldn't believe what just happened at that instance. I never expected it.
“Please take her away, she's just a child and doesn't know what she's saying.” Baron’s mom shouted and Fiona bursted into tears, clinging hard to me.
I bent and carried her, taking her away when Baron rushed towards us, trying to console us. “Don't worry, I'll never marry Prisha. I wish you were pregnant or had anything which could stop this.”
A quick reminder spiralled over my mind.
“I have!” I snapped, looking him straight to the eyes.
“What's that? Are you pregnant?” He hastily asked.
“No,” I replied.
“Then what?” It's here a brief silence came up, I was thinking if I was making the right decision by telling him now.
Well I have no choice.
“Give me thirty to forty minutes only,” I said to him and walked out of the room with Fiona.
