As if he sensed my tensed body, he quickly placed his hands on my waist. Feeling uncomfortable, he pulled away.
"Sorry about that," he said and left, leaving me worried about what happened. I placed my hand on my chest, trying to calm my pounding heart, then followed him, meeting him up, then I asked him "Bar?"
"Good idea," he nodded. He needs to pour his emotions out.
.....
I looked at him nervously as he finished his second bottle of wine, not just wine, but the one with a very high alcohol level. One small glass would knock me out!
Just as he was about to open another bottle, I snatched it from him and rolled my eyes. "That's enough, Kelvin."
"I want to drink more..."
"No more drinks, Kelvin! I don't know why you want to destroy yourself over her. She isn't even worthy of you," I gritted my teeth. I'm the one fighting for my husband's attention in a relationship. My husband doesn't love me, but I love him. Kelvin loves his girlfriend, but she's into someone else. Not balanced! This life isn't even balanced!!
I checked his chest bag and took some of his money, paid for the drinks. I don't have extra money to waste! Pulling him up, after what felt like ages, we finally reached home. I didn't see Mrs Donovan.
A maid helped me take him to his room. When we entered his bedroom, I was stunned, the same decoration as Timothy's room was same has Kelvin's room. In fact, his curtains, wall brackets, and other decorations were even more expensive.
The first time I entered Timothy's bedroom, I thought it was heaven and imagined we'd be there forever, cuddling on his huge bed. Who knew it would become my nightmare?
Kelvin sat up the moment we placed him on the bed. "Are you okay?" He stayed quiet, probably because of the maid. I giggled and looked at her. "Excuse us for a bit, I'll be out in a minute."
"Okay, ma'am," she said, but she looked worried. "What happened to the young master? Why is he drunk?" She frowned. "It's rare to see him like this."
"He's going through a lot, so I took him to a bar to pour out his emotions," I sighed.
"Really? And madam accepted..."
"Who is this? Get your ass out!" Kelvin hissed.
The maid flinched and bowed. "Sorry, young master," and then ran away.
Kelvin hissed again and lay on his back, placing his hand on his forehead and closing his eyes.
"How are you feeling?" I chuckled, checked the time on my wristwatch, and shook my head. "I should be on my way. I hope you'll start focusing on your studies tomorrow."
No response. I rolled my eyes and turned toward the door. "Okay, Kelvin, I'm off."
"Wait," I heard his low voice. I took a deep sigh and turned back. "But I'm late."
He got down from the bed and walked toward me, staring straight into my eyes.
"Is there something you want to tell me, Mr Kelvin?" Well, I can't wait to hear him thanking me, since it will benefit both parties.
Seeing how close he was, I frowned and stepped back. He kept following until my back hit the wall. "Uhmm," I laughed awkwardly and pushed him lightly.
"Distance, please. Are you okay?"
In the next moment, he held my jaw and lifted my face. I stared into his green eyes in shock. "What are you doing?" Was that even a question? He's drunk and clearly not in his right mind!
I was even more surprised when his thumb brushed my lower lip. I blinked several times, trying to read his expression. I frowned and tried to push him away.
"Respect, please!" I said in disbelief.
Suddenly, he grabbed my hands and raised them above my head. "Cynthia..." he murmured, then placed his soft lips on mine and kissed me.
I froze. Cynthia? That must be his ex-girlfriend's name. Ohhhh...he mistook me for her? From experience, I knew it wasn't easy, but he had no choice but to move on.
"Hmmm," he moaned as he deepened the kiss, slipping into my mouth without warning and devouring my lips. When have I ever been kissed like this? I was about to respond when I suddenly realised, what the heck am I doing?!
"Hmmm... It's been a long time since we kissed like this," his moan made me even more uncomfortable. I was once married, and my body is sensitive.
Lisa! This is forbidden!
Using all my strength, I pushed him away. I raised my hand to slap him but stopped midway. Calm down, he's drunk and only mistook you for his ex. I shoved him back onto the bed and rushed out of his room.
What he did at his ex's house still bothered me. How could he suddenly touch me like that and act like it was nothing? I'm not even the type of woman he should mess with. I'm old enough to be his elder sister. I'm very sure his ex is his age.
Nineteen dating nineteen!
By the time I reached home, Sofia was already asleep. I intentionally walked home to clear my head. I can't believe this. I'm insane.
"Lisa, you're a terrible person. How can you crush on your student on the first day?" I grunted. "You don't deserve this job!"
Sitting in front of the mirror, my gaze fell on my lips. Those lips on mine... they were so soft. "Now I understand," I nodded.
At first, I was only amazed by his good looks. Then I became curious about why he touched me like that. Now he kissed me. That isn't even my fault!
Thinking about how passionate the kiss was made me feel things I shouldn't. Maybe they're right, someone's body becomes sensitive after being touched before.
I rarely feel like this when I'm still a virgin. I rushed into the bathroom, hoping it would subside. I can't believe I reacted this way over a nineteen-year-old boy!
After standing under the shower for a long time, I finally felt better. I came out calmer. "I should put him in his place."
....
The next day.
"Why do you have dark circles? Didn't you sleep?" Sofia asked in confusion. She sat beside me as I ate absent-mindedly. "Did you cry?"
Then she added, "I understand it's not easy. Are you sad because you couldn't handle him? You aren't the only teacher who failed to teach the dragon son!"
"Hmmm," I chuckled. Wouldn't it be better if I were rejected? I wouldn't be happy, but at least my mental health would be fine, and there won't be sleepless nights. "Actually, nothing happened. I'm just stressed because I never reached before."
"Really?" she smiled happily. "Your job is still stable! Then why are you ohhh, you stressed yourself too much, hehehe. I was wondering why you came back almost at midnight."
Unable to bear the teasing, I quickly grabbed my bag and left. Stepping down from the taxi, I stared nervously at the Donovan's gate. Jeezzz... I'm about to face this boy again!!
Entering the Donovans' luxurious mansion, I saw Mrs Donovan and two men in the main living room, chatting. One was wearing white while the second one was wearing black. I could tell from his features that the one in white was Kelvin's father. The man sitting beside him... very good-looking. I chuckled. From his look, he was bored with whatever Mr Donovan was telling him. He's very mature, and everything about him- very perfect.
I envy his wife! Some ladies are just lucky! They paused when they saw me. Mrs Donovan smiled and stood up immediately.
"Ahhh, you are here, Miss Lisa," she patted my shoulder and looked at her husband.
"This is the amazing tutor I was talking about."
Err... amazing tutor, she said? Today is my second day... I blushed and looked away when the two of them looked at me.
"Oh really? Thanks." He stood up to shake my hand, surprising me. I'm surprised not all rich people are rude... Timothy's parents were very rude, especially his younger sister.
"Ahhh... don't say that, I didn't do anything."
He chuckled and sat back. "He finally agreed to study business, thanks to you."
Ahh, ohh... I'm not surprised since I helped him. It's our deal though, but hearing it felt different. His parents were happy and even proud of me... with that, I'll be able to secure this for six months and receive my extra bonus.
Mrs Donovan smiled. "Well, he's in and all prepared. Please see me before you leave."
I bowed and left happily. At least she will reward me for working hard to change her son. That happiness vanished the moment I reached his door. I took a deep breath and opened it.
There he was, staring at his textbook with a frown. He... he looked dangerous whenever he was very serious. He will be a tough CEO in the future.
He looked up immediately when he noticed me. I quickly looked away.
"Good morning, Mr Kelvin," trying hard to get out the kiss in my head! Those soft lips and hot tongue.
Why am I even like this? Something that isn't possible.
'Stop thinking about this, Lisa. You are the worst comparison to him. You are older and divorced. In fact, you can't give him a child!! Infertile... don't ruin his life with your carelessness.'
Tears filled my eyes. It's funny how the insults I gave myself hurt me. Infertile? It's the memory I buried deep inside my brain. Maybe if I force it out, it will help me come back to my senses.
"Miss Lisa?" His voice snapped me out. I didn't even realise I was now sitting in front of him. Gosh! he really called my name?
"Ohhh... I... I just remembered something bad. How was your night?"
"Very well."
So obedient, that's weird. I'm used to his rude side.
"That's good to hear. Let's start studying. I'm starting with an introduction to business studies."
He picked up his pen and started writing. I looked at the way he writes in admiration. His long and slim fingers are very smooth... then I glanced at his neck and lips. Didn't he remember what happened the previous night?
I'm expecting him to apologise for kissing me! I gritted my teeth as I forced myself to move further. He paid full attention. I taught him enough things he should know for a day.
I glanced at his lips again... oh nope! This isn't appropriate. Why would I fall for someone I knew recently? Well, I've explained what happened. It wouldn't be this way if he didn't kiss me... even grabbed my ass!
Our eyes met while I was staring at him... he caught me sneaking a gaze at him?
"Ahh... I'm thinking of what to give you as an assignment."
"Really?" He raised a brow. "But you told me to mark page three for the assignment."
"Ahh... okay, I'm just testing you," I chuckled. "I want to know whether you're paying attention or not."
He nodded seriously. "Okay, I understand everything."
I swallowed hard and grabbed my bag. "Okay, see you tomorrow."
I quickly turned around and walked faster towards the door, opened it, and ran out, breathing heavily. I shook my head. "Ahh... there is a problem."
I knew how happy I was when I got this job, not thinking I'm better than those who lost, but because it chose me. I remembered Mrs Donovan wanted to see me. "Oh right..." distraction will do!
......
Sitting in front of her, she clapped and two maids rushed towards her. "Miss Lisa, what would you like to eat?" she asked sweetly.
Eat?
"Ohh...that... never mind, Mrs Donovan, I'm fine with water." I don't even have the appetite.
"Are you shy?" she giggled.
I quickly shook my head. I don't want to offend her at all, she's a very good person.
"I'm fine, ma'am. I don't have the appetite, but I'll definitely take any drinks."
She nodded and whispered to them. They nodded and left. I've been wondering what she wants to ask me.
I pinched myself and forced a smile. "Thanks so much for the warm welcome... I'm wondering why you want to see me."
She chuckled and waited for the maids to serve us the wine.
"Nothing, just that I'm celebrating my son's recovery."
"Ohhh." I nodded but frowned. "Was he sick?"
She burst into laughter and shook her head. "Oh no, he wasn't. But I've been wondering what you did to make him listen to you. You don't mind telling me?"
I laughed nervously. Didn't I tell her before I asked for permission? That I wanted to take him to a bar? Why... Why did she ask me again?
"I told you, ma'am. I said I would take him to a bar to pour out his emotions."
She looked at me for a while. "Why are you lying to me, Miss Lisa?"
I looked at her in displeasure. No doubt, she already knew the truth. I'm glad I hadn't touched the wine, or else I would be more embarrassed.
She chuckled. "I already knew you were up to something the moment you asked for that offer."
I nodded. "So you asked your men to follow us. I expected that." I already thought of her doing it but just prayed she wouldn't stop us.
"What I hate most is lying. You took him to whom I forbade him to see," she paused. "Now you see the reason why she's dangerous for my son."
I nodded. "I'm very sorry..." I quickly stood up to beg her more. I didn't know she would be upset, but she quickly stood up and made me sit back down, sitting beside me.
"Ahh no, don't do that. I don't want you to think otherwise. That's why I'm offering you drinks. My men recorded what you told him," she gave me a knowing smile.
I looked surprised and quickly looked away in embarrassment.
"I asked them to come back immediately."
I sighed in relief. They didn't know when he hugged me! Or else, how would I cope with that!!
"You are a good mother. Your children will be proud of you..." The world seemed to stop the moment she said that...
My children....
"Are you okay?" Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I forced a smile and nodded. "I'm good."
I wondered how she would react when she learned that I was infertile...
"Because of your pure intention, I won't fire you," she smiled.
I sighed in relief and bowed. "Thank you so much..."
"Oh... no need."
"I will make sure it won't happen again!"
"Come on, you're funny."
.....
"Hey... why are you looking like that? Did you see a ghost?"
That was when I realised I was already home. I was hugging my handbag tightly to my chest!
"Oh, I'm home," I scoffed and dashed to my room, Sofia following me in confusion.
"Lisa, are you okay? Why are you in tears!"
"I'm fine," I sniffed.
"Hey, wait..." She caught my hand before I could enter my room. I couldn't hold it anymore, I burst into tears.
"Oh my gosh... what's going on with you, babe," she whispered and hugged me, placing my forehead on her shoulder, patting my back.
"Whatever you're thinking, it's going to be alright. I promise."
Will I really be alright? I always wished for romantic love with a good-looking man, especially one who was caring. That's why I mistook Timothy's care for love. I'm scared... scared of staying alone, scared of being single while my mates celebrated five, ten, twenty years of wedding anniversaries.
One thing I despised was divorce... Why would he divorce me if he loved me so much? I want someone who will care for me too, to treat me like a queen and a kid.
But, what I'm afraid of... It's happening.... That's why I'm always depressed. Getting this homeroom teacher job was just to kill boredom.
If I knew things would turn out like that with my ex-husband, I wouldn't have rushed into that marriage. Rushing into marriage isn't good... I'm regretting it.
Why did I submit myself to a man who didn't value me? Ahh! I'm the one at fault! I shouldn't have let fear dictate my actions. Sometimes, it's okay not to be okay...
I'm embarrassed about my parents' relationship. I'm not fine with it. I keep thinking it's a generational curse. My grandmother was alone. I have no idea who my grandfather is. I heard he was heartless. There's a secret picture of my grandmother with a swollen face... that says it all.
My mom also ended up single for one reason or another. I'm not fucking okay with that! I'm scared of meeting a man like my father or grandfather! I should have burned that feeling... of being alone... I shouldn't have been afraid of it. Now I've ended up labelling myself a divorced woman. Every man who finds out looks at me differently, thinking I cheated on my husband, that's why he divorced me...
After divorcing my husband, I learned one thing, rushing into marriage isn't good. I think it's the same mistake my mom and grandma made. I should have thought about it before letting fear eat me alive.
Not every man who approaches a woman wants to follow the law of forever and ever.
.....
"I think my case is far worse than theirs," I sighed and sat on my bed, Sofia sitting beside me.
"Will you stop doing this to yourself," she frowned. "If you keep doing that, how will you be respected? The first rule of life is loving yourself!"
"I know," I giggled. "I'm just trying to understand something. My case is different from my mom's or my grandmother's. My husband divorced me because of... the infertility stuff... I don't want to talk about it"
"Hmmm... is that what you've been telling yourself?" she frowned. "Don't tell me you still love that jerk."
I quickly shook my head. "Of course not! I'm just saying no man will want me because I'm disabled."
Sofia suddenly roared with laughter. "Wow! I didn't know you were this stupid for real."
I froze. "What?"
"Listen, idiot," she said seriously. "Whether you can bear a child or not is none of his concern. He didn't love you. He wanted a child because his family was desperate for one."
"Ohhh..."
"Exactly. You're saying all this because you've never experienced real love. If a man loves you, Lisa, he won't care about anything bad about you. And you're not disabled! Look, there's a famous hospital. You can go for a check-up. Whatever the result is, it's the truth."
"Dwell Health Hospital?" I looked at her in confusion and froze when she nodded.
"Where will I get the money for their check-up?" It's the best hospital. I heard the doctor barely comes around because he travels a lot. He's the best, with many professional doctors and expert nurses under him. Only the richest can afford him...
"I can just try a local one..."
"Listen, gullible," she said. "I was able to book an appointment through my fiancé."
We both paused. She shook her head and continued.
"He managed to book with the doctor himself."
I froze. "Wait... what? How did he do that?" We've been investigating his job and found nothing special except the wine he sells. He made it sound like nothing serious.
"I don't know either," she sighed. "I feel like he's hiding something from me..." She dropped the card in front of me. "I'm scared to marry him."
"Don't even dare marry him if you're still doubting him," I warned. I don't want her to make my mistake.
She chuckled. "Don't worry. We've been together for three years. I'll handle it. Today is my appointment with them." She checked her watch. "Ohh, it's almost time. You should start going. You're about to meet the owner himself."
"Ahh... really? Thanks. I'm not prepared for that..." I paused. "But why did you even book an appointment for me? Are you sick?"
She thought for a moment. "Actually, it's for you. I told him about your situation and he wants to help."
"You told him about me?" I froze in embarrassment. What if he sees me as disgusting... as his fiancée's broken friend?
"Don't worry. He isn't a jerk like your ex. He understood."
I rolled my eyes and headed straight to the hospital. Even with Sofia's directions, it took me a long time to locate the first floor. The tallest among the sixteen buildings.
I was told to wait in the waiting area. Not many patients. They designed it this way in case of emergencies. Nice idea. There were so many doctors and nurses. No wonder it's the best hospital.
Then a tall man in a black suit approached me. "Miss Lisa Gilbert?"
"That's me," I said, standing up quickly. Oh... the appointment is really for me. It's registered in my name...
"Follow me, please."
I nodded and followed him into a luxurious office nervously. A couple walked out, and then I saw a man in a navy-blue suit writing on a jotter.
My gosh. He's deadly good-looking!! "Have a seat," he said.
I sat nervously. "Good... good afternoon, sir."
"Good afternoon, Miss Lisa," he said, then looked up at me.
I froze. I was surprised to see him! The man who sat beside Mr Donavon when Mrs Donovan was introducing me to her husband! But how?
I'm doomed!
