Chapter 1

Amelia Allen, John Moore's former flame, had returned to the country and found herself in a dire situation, working as a dancer in a bar to pay off her massive debts.

When John heard the news, he couldn't tear his eyes away from the alluring figure on stage. I, on the other hand, was left in silence beside him.

The cold drinks, the dim, garish lights, and the kaleidoscopic stage were all overshadowed by Amelia's captivating presence. She stole all of John's attention.

"Mr. Moore, what do you think? Your old flame, who has abandoned you, now reduced to this." Leon Cooper chuckled, his voice dripping with mockery. He summoned the bar manager and demanded that Amelia come over for a drink.

Leon was not only John's business rival but also the heir to the Cooper Group.

The bar owner, wary of angering him, quickly fetched Amelia.

"Mr. Cooper…" Amelia, dressed in a revealing white dress, was still strikingly beautiful, though her forced smile barely concealed her resignation.

As she spoke, she noticed John and me in the shadows. Her eyes welled up with tears that she struggled to hold back. "John, Amy, it's been so long."

I nodded slightly, noticing the tension in John's body.

"Oh, look at the newcomer. Let's have a few drinks!" One of Leon's sycophants set several glasses of strong liquor in front of Amelia.

Amelia's face turned pale. "I'm sorry, but I don't drink…"

I was about to step in and help her, but my husband, John, stood up first.

John, the man I had been married to for six years, someone I thought would at least show me some respect despite his past feelings for Amelia, surprised me.

Instead of standing up for me, he took Amelia away in front of everyone, leaving me alone.

He draped his coat over Amelia's shoulders, his expression cold. "Stop making a scene."

He then took Amelia's hand and shot me a look, saying, "Amy, you know I can't forget her. Don't do this again."

I thought, Is he really blaming me for this situation? Does he think I have set this up to humiliate Amelia in front of everyone?

Absurd. After six years of marriage and countless trials, does he still doubt my character so much?

"John, are you really taking Amelia away?" I asked, my voice weary. Six years of holding onto this cold, unfeeling relationship had left me feeling emotionally numb.

The room fell silent as onlookers watched our confrontation with a mix of curiosity and amusement.

"Amy, she's different from you," John said coldly, turning to me, "You have everything now, but Amelia is homeless."

"Did you know I'm one month pregnant?" I threw the revelation at him, hoping it might make a difference.

John pressed his lips. "I'll have the driver take you home."

With that, he half-embraced Amelia and walked away. I caught a glint of triumph in Amelia's eyes as if she was savoring the moment.

Even a pregnant, virtuous wife was no match for the woman he once loved.

The crowd's gaze was a mix of pity, mockery, and a reevaluation of the weight between me and Amelia.

As the last traces of moonlight were swallowed by the night, I felt the darkness close in.

Chapter 2

When I got home, I found Amelia lounging on the sofa I had meticulously designed, wearing my pajamas and slippers while cozying up to my husband.

John didn't react much when he saw me; he simply moved Amelia's hand away from him slightly.

"It's pouring outside. Amelia has been staying at a hotel alone and was scared, so I brought her home. She didn't have any toiletries, so I gave her your things to use."

"Amy, I didn't mean for this to happen. You don't mind, do you?" Amelia's voice was soft and pitiful, but she shot me a triumphant look when John wasn't watching.

I replied coolly, "Not at all. If you like it, then you can have it."

My hands were trembling as I struggled to mask my pain.

I thought, John, have you really reached the point where you're moving Amelia into our home without even consulting me?

"Are you okay?" John finally noticed my pale complexion and moved to help me, but I shrugged his hand away.

"I'm tired. Let's leave it at that for today."

John looked shocked. This was the first time I hadn't responded to his gestures.

Meanwhile, Amelia was in tears, clutching John's arm. "John, did my presence upset Amy? Maybe I should go back to the hotel. After all, Amy's pregnant."

Her act of the innocent girl only seemed to work on John, who was clearly still smitten with her.

I took a deep breath, calming myself and stepping into the trap Amelia had set. "Yes, I'm not feeling well. John, could you find a hotel for Amelia to stay in?"

I just wanted an answer. Who would he choose between Amelia and me?

Amelia's tears flowed even more freely, her expression becoming even more pitiful. "Since Amy says so, John, I guess I should leave."

She started to leave, but John grabbed her hand.

He looked at me with a cold expression. "Amy, stop making a scene. It's pouring outside. Where could she possibly go?"

I froze mid-motion, meeting his gaze directly. "Can't you just have the driver take her to a hotel?

"John, I'm carrying your child. Are you really going to disregard my feelings just for her?" My emotions finally erupted. I needed an answer, even if it meant falling into Amelia's pitiful trap.

Amelia seemed to feel embarrassed. She pulled John's hand away, putting on a fake sorrowful smile.

"Amy is right. John, we're not like before. Amy is your wife now. I'll always see you as a brother."

As thunder rumbled outside, Amelia picked up her coat to leave. But John stopped her, turning to me.

"Amy, you wouldn't make me choose, would you?"

My heart ached. I forced out a bitter smile. "Is this what's considered putting you in a tough spot, Mr. Moore? You just left your pregnant wife of six years at a bar, moved your old flame into our home, letting her wear my clothes and live in my space. Did you ever consider that as a wife, I deserve some respect and protection from my husband?"

With that, I glanced coldly at Amelia. "Amelia, if you want to stay, so bet it. Even if it means sharing a bed with John, I don't care."

I slipped back into my shoes. "John, I'll see you at the courthouse the day after tomorrow."

John stepped forward, trying to stop me and explain.

I brushed him off quickly, got into the car, and drove away, leaving the two of them behind.

On the other end of the phone, the voice of the housekeeper, my confidant, was on the line.

Even after I left, John hadn't sent Amelia away. Instead, she had smoothly settled into the room that belonged to both me and John.

It was disgusting. Not the morning sickness but a visceral revulsion.

Six years of affection, and this was all it amounted to.

I thought, John, John, after everything—after I stood by you through thick and thin, helping you build from the ground up, enduring every hardship together, Aren't we supposed to part ways with some dignity, at least?

Tears streamed down my face, my heartache finally finding an outlet.

The rain poured down, masking my sobs as if nature itself were weeping for me.

Chapter 3

The next morning, I called a moving company right when John was supposed to head to work.

If we were going to cut ties, I was determined to do it cleanly.

"Get moving," I said, quickly packing up my personal belongings.

I hadn't anticipated bumping into John returning with Amelia.

"Stop! What are you doing?!" John's icy voice cut through the air, leaving the movers in stunned silence.

"Keep going," I said as I stepped outside.

John's gaze locked onto me, his expression darkening. "Amy, do we really need to drag this out to such an extreme?"

"We'll talk about it another day," I replied coldly, eyeing Amelia, who was following John closely.

"Amy, my relationship with John isn't what you think. Don't make a scene. I'll just leave," Amelia said, pretending to cover her face in tears.

John's heart melted instantly. He pulled Amelia closer and looked at me with a pained expression. "Amy, we have everything now, but Amelia is different. We've known each other since we were kids. Can you really stand to see her suffer?

"I'm married to you, but Amelia is still my friend. Letting her stay here for a while isn't that big of a deal. Since when did you become so petty? Why can't you be more generous?"

His words stung deeply. I had made it clear to John on the day we were set to marry that I wouldn't tolerate any infidelity. If he had feelings for someone else, I'd rather he not marry me at all.

Even if there were infidelity, parting ways should be done with dignity.

But now, he couldn't do that.

I bit my lip, my eyes cold and resolute. "Help her? A married man bringing another woman into our home without his wife's consent, even letting her stay in our room and wear my clothes? John, are you saying I can find another man and do the same to you?

"I'm willing to help Amelia out of friendship, but it doesn't mean I should give up my own family. After all, I'm not responsible for her debts. I can assist her because of our history, but it's not my responsibility.

"If you see this as your responsibility, then from whose perspective are you viewing this? You're her husband? Have you forgotten I'm the one who's been married to you and is pregnant for over a month?"

Disappointment washed over me as I watched John continue to defend Amelia, trying to justify his actions.

The once charming and elegant young man now seemed tarnished in my eyes.

I was still an adept assistant at Moore Group before becoming a full-time housewife.

"Let's not say anything more. We'll talk at another time," I said, my voice strained as I tried to hold back the pain.

I left a final remark and watched as the moving company quickly loaded all my belongings.

I left without a backward glance, ignoring John's pleas. The sight of Amelia clinging to John's arm, seemingly scared, only made me feel more bitter.

It was laughable—he wasn't unaware of her manipulative tactics. After all, every path to financial success was fraught with obstacles, especially for those who built everything from scratch like us. John had seen every trick in the book.

Yet he still chose to protect Amelia, trampling all over my dignity and respect.

After six years of standing together through thick and thin, John still couldn't let go of his past lover.

If that was the case, why did he marry me in the first place?

Resolute, I got into my car and drove away.
