After My Husband Cheated with His Golf Instructor Chapter 1

My feet throbbed inside my worn-out sneakers. I had just clocked out of a double shift at the diner, smelling like cheap grease and burnt coffee. The rain over Manhattan was freezing, coming down in heavy sheets against the gray pavement.

My coat was soaked through, but I held the umbrella tightly under my arm. It was Bryce’s spare. He always forgot to bring one. With his weak heart, catching a cold could send him straight to the emergency room.

For eight years, taking care of him was my entire life.

Bryce Dixon was my first love. When I chose him, I walked away from a world of private jets, penthouse suites, and my father’s suffocating expectations. Bryce told me he was born with a fatal heart defect. He couldn't work high-stress jobs. So, I worked three jobs instead. I worked until my hands were cracked and raw. I skipped meals, gave up buying clothes, and budgeted every single penny.

Today was supposed to be the turning point.

Two hours ago, I finalized the sale of our tiny apartment. The buyer paid two hundred thousand dollars in cash. Every single dollar was earmarked for Mount Sinai, where my grandmother Eleanor was waiting for emergency heart surgery. Grandma was the only person from my past who had never given up on me. She was going to make it.

I couldn't wait to tell Bryce. He was at an exclusive golf club in Midtown, supposedly meeting a critical client. I wanted to surprise him, hand him his umbrella, and tell him the good news.

The clubhouse smelled like polished wood, expensive cigars, and old money. The receptionist looked at my dripping jacket with disgust, but I hurried past her. I walked down the quiet hallway toward the private lounges.

Then, I heard a laugh.

It was cocky, low, and unmistakably Bryce’s.

The sound came from behind a cracked door near the women’s locker room. I stopped, curious, and stepped closer to the gap.

My chest caved in.

Bryce was standing against a marble vanity. His hands gripped the waist of Scottie Herrera, his blonde golf instructor. Her short athletic skirt was hiked up against his thighs. Bryce was kissing her neck hungrily, his breath heavy, while she threw her head back and giggled.

The umbrella slipped from my fingers, hitting the carpet with a dull thud.

I stumbled backward into an empty bathroom stall nearby. I pulled the door shut until it clicked, clamping both hands over my mouth. My whole body began to tremble.

"Stop it, Bryce," Scottie purred through the door, her voice dripping with fake coyness. "What if your little mouse comes looking for you?"

Bryce let out a rough chuckle. "Isla? Please. She’s probably breaking her back wiping greasy tables right now."

"Doesn't she ever get suspicious?" Scottie asked, giggling. "You spend so much time here with me."

"She thinks I’m fragile," Bryce said. His tone was full of cold mockery. "All I have to do is clutch my chest and pretend to be short of breath. Then she bends over backward for me. Can you believe it? Eight years, Scottie. Eight whole years she's paid every single bill because she thinks my heart might stop. She’s pathetically devoted. Too dumb to question a single thing."

Scottie laughed, sharp and cruel. "What a dumb little mouse. So you really don't have a heart defect?"

"Never had one," Bryce said smoothly. "It was just an easy excuse so I'd never have to lift a finger."

Inside the stall, my world shattered.

Eight years.

The sleepless nights. The exhaustion that made my bones ache. The panic every time he coughed. It was all a con. He hadn't loved me. He had used me like an unpaid servant.

I didn't cry. The tears simply refused to come. Instead, something deep inside my chest snapped, turned to ice, and died.

I heard the rustle of clothes. Scottie murmured that she had to touch up her makeup, and her heels clicked toward the back mirror. A moment later, Bryce stepped out into the hallway, humming to himself.

He left his phone on the vanity counter.

I walked out of the stall. My hands were completely steady.

I picked up his phone. The screen was still unlocked. I tapped into his photo gallery, and it took only two seconds to find what I wanted. Dozens of explicit photos of him and Scottie.

I took screenshots. Then, I opened his messaging app. Right at the top was his professional group chat—the one filled with his wealthy clients and prospective business partners.

I selected every single photo. I hit send.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Bryce stood in the doorway. His face went instantly pale, then flushed dark red.

I looked him dead in the eye. "It's sent."

Bryce lunged forward. His phone began buzzing frantically with incoming notifications. He looked down at the screen, and absolute horror washed over his features.

"You crazy bitch!" he screamed.

He grabbed my wrist, twisting it violently, and dragged me out into the main clubhouse lounge. Patrons paused their drinks. Waiters froze.

"Bryce, let go—"

*Smack.*

His palm cracked across my face with brutal force.

The impact whipped my head to the side. My cheek exploded in blinding heat, and I crashed onto the floor. The metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.

"Get this lunatic out of here!" Bryce roared, his eyes wide and frantic. "She’s a crazy stalker! Security! Throw her out!"

Two burly security guards grabbed my arms, hauling me across the marble floor like garbage. Nobody intervened. Nobody cared. They shoved me through the heavy glass doors and tossed me onto the rain-soaked sidewalk.

I hit the cold pavement. The freezing rain poured over my burning cheek, washing the blood from my lip.

I didn't feel the pain. I didn't feel anything at all. The naive girl who had loved Bryce Dixon was gone.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out my cracked phone.

I didn't dial 911. I dialed a private number I hadn't used in eight years.

It rang once.

A deep, formidable voice answered immediately. "Isla?"

Steven Morrison. My father. Patriarch of the Morrison Group.

I stood up straight in the pouring rain, staring up at the Manhattan skyline my family ruled.

"Dad," I said, my voice hollow and sharp as broken glass. "I'm coming home. I'm getting a divorce."
