Chapter 4

The invitation to the Lycan Ball arrived on a scroll of pure gold, the royal emblem of the Lycan Kingdom embossed at the top. I traced the intricate design with my fingertip, still unable to believe how much my life had changed in just a few months.

"Are you ready?" Damian's voice came from the doorway of my chambers.

I turned to find him leaning against the frame, his powerful presence filling the room. "As ready as I'll ever be to face the entire werewolf aristocracy."

He crossed the room in three long strides, stopping before me. "You'll outshine them all."

The dress he'd selected arrived moments later—a creation of liquid gold and midnight black that seemed to capture the essence of our alliance. As I emerged from the dressing room, Damian's eyes darkened with something primal and possessive.

"Perfect," he murmured, extending his arm. "A Queen at last."

The Lycan Ball was held in the ancient Grand Hall, where crystal chandeliers cast prismatic light across marble floors that had witnessed centuries of werewolf history. As we entered, the crowd fell silent, all eyes turning to us.

"May I present Daisy Allen," Damian announced, his voice carrying to every corner of the room. "My ally and the future of our kind."

The introduction was deliberate—not as my mate, but as something equally powerful. A statement.

As the orchestra began to play, Damian led me to the center of the floor. "The first dance belongs to us," he said, pulling me close.

His hand settled at the small of my back, warm and commanding. As we moved together, something electric sparked between us. His eyes flashed gold, his wolf rising close to the surface.

"Everyone can smell it," he whispered against my ear. "Our scent is merging."

I inhaled deeply, catching the intoxicating blend of pine and winter that was uniquely Damian, now intertwined with my own floral notes. The Mate Scent—undeniable and powerful.

From the corner of my eye, I spotted movement at the entrance. Austin stood frozen in the doorway, his face contorted with rage as he took in the scene before him.

"Let me handle this," Damian murmured, following my gaze.

He didn't even need to move. Just the projection of his aura—a crushing wave of power—sent Austin staggering backward. The Alpha of Silver Claw, reduced to nothing more than a trespasser at the threshold of true power.

---

"Are you certain?" Jolene's voice trembled as she clutched the pregnancy test in her hand. "It could be wrong."

The pack doctor—one of my carefully placed spies—shook her head. "The bloodwork confirms it. You're experiencing a false pregnancy, Gamma Gonzalez. It's not uncommon in wolves who desperately want to conceive but cannot."

I watched through the hidden camera I'd planted in the medical wing, my heart cold as I observed Jolene's face crumple.

"But I have symptoms," she insisted. "Morning sickness, cravings—"

"Hysterical pregnancy," the doctor explained gently. "Your wolf is so desperate for a bond that doesn't exist that she's creating physical manifestations."

Jolene's eyes hardened suddenly. "I need you to lie for me."

---

Two days later, Austin stood before the Council of Alphas, his chest puffed with pride.

"I've called this emergency meeting to announce joyous news," he declared. "The Silver Claw Pack will soon welcome a new heir. My mate, Jolene, carries our future."

The announcement sent shockwaves through the assembly. An heir would secure Austin's position despite his recent failures.

I sat in the shadows at the back of the room, Damian beside me. His hand found mine under the table.

"Your move," he whispered.

---

The medical file landed on Austin's desk with a soft thud—sent directly to his private email with no message attached. Inside were detailed records proving Jolene's deception.

I watched from the garden below as Austin stormed through the pack house, the papers clutched in his fist. He found Jolene in their bedroom, still basking in the glow of her announcement to the Council.

"You lied to me!" he roared, throwing the file at her feet. "There is no heir!"

Jolene's face drained of color. "Austin, please—I just needed you to mark me. I needed to feel the bond."

"There is no bond!" His voice cracked with fury. "There never was!"

The illusion of their love shattered completely as Austin turned his back on her. "This changes everything."

He stormed out, leaving Jolene collapsed on the floor, her screams echoing through the empty halls of what was once my home.

I slipped away into the night, a cold smile playing at my lips. The truth had finally caught up with them both.

Chapter 5

The morning sun filtered through the tall windows of the Silver Claw Pack's meeting room, casting long shadows across Austin's face as he paced nervously. I watched from the hidden alcove I'd discovered weeks ago, my heart pounding with anticipation. Today would mark the final phase of my revenge.

The door swung open, and Elena Cross entered—a vision of youth and power in her tailored blue suit. At twenty-three, she was already Alpha of the Cross Pack, having inherited her title after her father's unexpected death. Her pack controlled three major trade routes and held significant investments in human businesses.

"Alpha Snyder," she greeted, her voice cool and professional. "You requested this meeting."

Austin straightened his tie, attempting to project the confidence that had once come naturally to him. "Thank you for coming, Alpha Cross. I believe our packs could benefit greatly from a... closer alliance."

Elena's perfectly shaped eyebrow arched slightly. "I'm listening."

"A marriage would strengthen both our territories," Austin said, stepping closer. "Your wealth combined with my... experience."

I suppressed a laugh at his desperate pitch. The mighty Austin Snyder, reduced to selling himself to save his crumbling empire.

"And what of your current... situation?" Elena asked, her gaze sharp. "I've heard rumors about your Gamma."

Austin's jaw tightened. "Jolene was a mistake. A temporary distraction."

The words echoed through the room like a death knell for whatever remained of their relationship. I slipped away, my lips curved in a cold smile. This was the moment I'd been waiting for—Austin completely exposed, his true nature laid bare.

---

The Lycan library was silent save for the crackling of ancient pages as I searched through Damian's private collection. The massive room smelled of leather and wisdom, housing centuries of werewolf knowledge.

"Looking for something specific?" Damian's voice came from behind me, warm and deep.

I turned to find him leaning against a bookshelf, arms crossed over his chest. "Just... understanding more about your world."

He nodded, then gestured to a locked cabinet. "There's something you should see."

The key around his neck opened the cabinet, revealing a series of leather-bound journals. "My personal records," he explained. "I've kept them for centuries."

I ran my fingers over the worn covers, feeling the weight of history. "May I?"

At his nod, I pulled out a volume dated five years earlier. As I opened it, a familiar date caught my eye—the day I first met Austin at the Inter-Pack Summit.

"Today I caught her scent," I read aloud, my voice barely above a whisper. "Daisy Allen. The moment she entered the room, my wolf recognized her as ours. But the Moon Goddess has paired her with another—Austin Snyder, a pup I myself trained."

I looked up at Damian, stunned. "You knew... all this time?"

His eyes flashed gold, his voice rough with emotion. "I honored the Goddess's choice, even as it tore me apart."

My hands trembled as I turned the page. "Every day since has been an exercise in restraint. To see her prepare to bond with another, to smell her scent and know I cannot claim what my soul recognizes as mine..."

"Dominic," I whispered, using his real name for the first time. The name only his closest confidants were allowed to use.

He moved closer, his presence overwhelming. "I've waited five years to tell you."

"Why didn't you?"

"Because you deserved to choose," he said simply. "Not to be bound by fate or duty."

Something broke inside me—the last wall I'd built to protect myself. I reached for him, my fingers tracing the scar that ran along his jaw.

"You're my true mate," I said, the realization washing over me like a wave. "You've always been."

His control snapped. One moment we were standing apart, the next his arms were around me, his lips claiming mine in a kiss that shattered every pretense between us.

Power exploded between us—our auras merging in a blinding display of gold and silver light. The mate bond snapped into place with such force that I gasped against his mouth.

"Five years," he groaned against my lips. "Five years of waiting."

---

The summons arrived at dawn—an ornate scroll bearing the seal of the Council of Alphas.

"An emergency summit," I read aloud, my fingers tracing the embossed lettering. "To address the instability in the Silver Claw Pack and the rise of Phoenix."

Damian stood behind me, his hands resting on my shoulders. "They're calling him to defend his title."

"And us to reveal ourselves," I added, a cold smile playing at my lips.

The Council had grown concerned about the power struggle between Austin and our shadow organization. This summit would force all parties into the open.

"It's time," I said, turning to face Damian. "This will be the execution ground for my revenge."

His eyes darkened with pride and something deeper—the mate bond humming between us like a living thing.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

I straightened my spine, feeling the weight of my destiny settling around my shoulders. "I've been ready since the day he betrayed me."

As we prepared to leave for the Council chambers, I caught a glimpse of us in the mirror—Damian's powerful frame behind my determined one. The Lycan King and his Luna, moving as one toward our destiny.

The stage was set. The players were in position.

And Austin Snyder had no idea what was coming.
