Chapter 3

Chloe's POV

It has been five years, five years after that brutal experience with Lyon and Sherry. It was that day that I made the decision that I had to start living for myself, I had to be happy and not try to make others feel happy.

I even left the car at Lyon's mansion that day since he was the one that bought it, I didn't want to have anything to do with him or his items so I took the town's bus.

I was headed to my Mom's place when the bus was involved in an accident.

"How much more pain do I have to face in one day?"

I muttered to myself while being rushed to the hospital, tears rolled down my cheek with the pain of the betrayal still lingering in my heart.

For me, it was like I had lost everything and I had no reason to be alive. I wanted to end my life, but once I was at the hospital, it was different from what I was told.

"Ma'am, although your injury is deep I am afraid that you will have to endure the pain while we go ahead and stitch up the wounds."

The doctor informed me while I lay on the patient's bed, my eyes trailed off at her and stopped right at the nurse next to him as I wondered why they would put me through so much pain when they could just give me an analgesic.

"Can't you use some sort of analgesic to ease the pain?" I suggested, wondering why she hadn't thought about that in the first place which had prompted me to suggest that to her, but she shook her head with a polite smile on her face.

"I understand ma, how this might be for you, but we are trying to be careful here and not endanger the life of your baby!"

She politely explained but I widened my gaze at her, confusion set in.

"Baby? What are you talking about?" I narrowed my gaze blankly at her, yet she seemed perplexed.

The doctor turned to stare at the nurse next to her whose gaze widened at me in confusion as they both exchanged a look.

"You are eight weeks pregnant and since the fetus is still tender, it is not advisable for analgesic to be used on you"

She explained after a moment of staring blankly at me.

"Pregnant, that is not possible!" I lamented in disbelief with my eyes wide open, I had been in the same hospital on that day the accident had occurred, how could they look me in the eyes after running my life and marriage and tell me that I was pregnant?

The doctor turned to the nurse who handed my files over to her, she curiously glanced at the file before she turned to me with a warm smile on her face.

"Oh, seems like there was a misunderstanding with the report but from the look of your files, it was sent over to you, I mean the real pregnancy report"

"So you are saying that I am pregnant?" A sore expression crept through my face as I stared into blank space, there were mixed feelings inside of me.

I knew that I should be happy, this was all that I had ever wanted, yet I could not tell why I felt sore at that moment especially knowing that I could not share this good news with Lyon.

"Yes, you are eight weeks pregnant and from the look of the ultrasound, it seems like two fetuses you are carrying."

She announced again, a warm smile filling her face, that smile was meant to warm my heart and make me happy about the kids I was carrying.

But I had just signed a divorce document, I was homeless with no job and two babies on their way, there was no way that anyone would be happy about such news.

But standing right at the airport as I thought about what my life looked like years ago, a smirk deepened on my lips.

I had worked hard with pregnancy, working several jobs together, and I needed money to start my own business, I had always wanted to be a designer but Lyon had always talked me out of it saying it was of no essence since he provided me with everything that I needed.

Thinking about it, I did not object to it, I just went along with this idea even though I knew that it wasn't the best for me.

But I pulled through, I was able to start up my dream as a designer, gave birth to my twin and now we all stood at the airport ready to go back to that place which once brought me nothing but pain and sorrow.

"Mom! Once we go back, do we get to see Daddy?" Penny who took most of my features asked, her tiny voice was sharp and whenever she wanted something, she never gave up on it.

"Why do you bother asking, or have you forgotten that Mom told us that we have no daddy and we don't need him."

Her brother Ryan reminded her. Although he took over most of Lyon's features, he was calm, he was the intelligent one.

Even at his age, Ryan could tell when I was sad and he never bothered me with questions that might only sore my mood the more.

"Don't worry guys, there is so much you are going to explore."

I reminded them with a smile, but deep down within me, I was filled with pain and resentment. It had been five years but the memory of that fateful day never left me.

Seeing my best friend in the arms of my husband and being reminded of my imperfection, forced to raise two kids on my own, but now that I am back, I am going to make them pay for everything that they did to me and they are never going to see it coming.

Chapter 4

Chloe's POV****

The last few years have taught me so much, that I could not deal with it.

After I left town to start a new life, although I knew it was going to be difficult for me, I never expected the brutal life that I had to go through.

Pregnant with twins, I was forced to work three jobs at a time, and after they were born, it was not an easy life for me. Yet, it was my quest for revenge that had kept me going, each time that I thought about Lyon and Chloe, I knew that I badly wanted to make it.

The pain is still fresh in my heart, piercing deeply with each thought of it. But now so much had changed, even the city with the way they talked about the wedding of Mr. Richard Jones.

Richard Jones seemed to be one of the most wealthy men in town, his company had several branches and his production was something that everyone looked up to.

Since the death of his wife six years ago, there have been several speculations made regarding his marital status, there have also been rumors on several occasions about him getting married.

Each time he was seen with a celebrity or a public figure, many had guessed they were the ones he was getting married to, he had been forced to talk about his marital status at each interview, and each time, he had always reminded them that he had no intention of getting married, his only aim was to build his company and become more successful.

But after six years, Mr. Richard, who was in his late Forties had come out to announce that he would be getting married, and yet no one knew the identity of his bride, so much speculation had been made and yet no one had been able to make the right guess.

Every single woman wanted it to be her, getting married to the richest man in town, and while I glanced at the screen of my phone with the speculations that were going on, a wide grin had spread through my lips.

"Ma'am, how would you like your makeup to be?" The makeup artist who had been patient with me as she stood there watching me slide through my phone finally asked.

I tucked my phone away, my gaze directly at the mirror before me, staring at my reflection.

"I don't know, I want something mean"

"Mean?" She parted her lips, her eyes staring at me perplexed.

"What do you mean ma'am?" She asked no doubt that she needed clarity, the confusion on her face was amusing while I tried not to laugh.

"I want something pretty, speaks confidence, sharp, and wow everyone!"

I instructed hoping that with the clarity, she would finally understand what I wanted, but she only seemed to have gotten more confused.

She stared blankly at me for a while before a smile swept through her lips. "I think I know what you need"

And with that, she commenced work, her hand applying and parting my face with a series of makeup.

All this while, I had my eyes shut, not staring at the mirror even for a second until she was finally done.

"Ma'am, you can go ahead and open your eyes" As I lifted my lid, I was taken aback by the transformation staring back at me.

My eyes widened in astonishment as for a moment, I doubted if that was truly me. The makeup artist had done magic on my face, her precision was accurate with the way she shimmered my eyelids with a subtle color.

Everything about the makeup was what I had imagined it to be, judging by the look on my face, it was obvious that she knew I was impressed.

"What do you think?" She asked but I ignored her question. Getting up from where I had sat all this while, I swirled around in my white flowery dress.

"It's perfect, everything is perfect!" That was all that I needed to say to get a smile crept through her face.

"It's your day, I am glad that you love it" She muttered before sprinting away.

As I stood before the large hall where several guests from across the globe had all honored the invitation, first I felt nervous, slowly fiddling with my fingers.

There was so much going on in my mind, I had no idea what to expect or how everyone was going to react, but I knew that I was ready, I was ready from the moment that I agreed to this marriage.

"Let the bride in!" They announced everyone rose to their feet, their gaze fixed at the entrance, showing their curiosity to the identity of the bride, and as I stepped onto the hall, my wedding gown, flowed down as it swept the floor.

My gaze went straight to the Altar, there was Richard fully dressed in a suit and awaiting my arrival, with each time that I took, I could see the envy in their eyes, like they wanted to take the veil away from me and place it on themselves.

But just then, my eyes had locked with Lyon, I hadn't seen him since the divorce, his gaze widened, his jaws dropping to the ground.

His eyes were consumed with both surprise and rage I hadn't seen in years, and even since I came back to town, somehow I had been looking forward to the first meeting with him.

All this while, I had thought about what my first meeting with Lyon was going to be after Five years and indeed it was everything that I had imagined.

First, I could see the admiration in his eyes, and then there was jealousy mixed with rage. I was getting married to his boss, that was a lot for his gut to take.

My gaze slowly trails down to the female figure standing next to him, there were dark circles around her eyelid, no doubt that life wasn't treating her the way she had anticipated. I hope she has finally given enough children to Lyon!

Beneath all of that was the fury looming in their eyes, what better revenge than the fact that I was getting married to his boss, he was angry about that and yet there was nothing he could do about it.

Chapter 5

Lyon's POV****

I sat right there at the wedding, my gaze fixed on Chloe. At first, it felt like a dream to me, I thought to myself that there was no way this was possible.

My mouth was wide open, I couldn't care less about that, the ex that I had thrown away was getting married to my boss, how was that possible or was this karma?

A few months after Chloe had left after signing the divorce documents, Sherry had lost the baby she was carrying. I felt so bitter with the thought that all of this was my fault, to begin with.

Chloe had stood by me through thick and thin, all that I should have done was to be a little patient with her, but Sherry had easily crawled up, and sprouted lies about Chloe and with the fact that she was barren, it was easy for me to be deceived and I was enchanted by her beauty.

While Chloe was five years feet tall, Sherry was more endowed with huge curves, she was the typical definition of sexy, and it was difficult for any man not to want to have a taste of that.

I tried searching for Chloe everywhere and spoke to her best friend Sherry but she claimed not to have any clue regarding her new location, that was devastating for me, so devastating that I felt my world was crumbling.

But just yesterday, I had received Intel that she was back in town, there was this flush of relief inside of me while I thought that this was finally going to be it; winning Chloe back, but my world seemed to have crumbled that moment she walked down the aisle and I knew I wasn't the groom, she was getting married to my boss, to the richest man in the city, how was that happening.

Everyone stared at her, there was admiration in their eyes, she was the typical example of perfection.

Her soft and silky wedding gown flew behind her while she glided down the aisle and as she stood right before Mr. Richard, he was dressed in a handmade designer suit, there was love, lust, and passion in his eyes as he stared at her.

I clenched my fist hard, my heart was pounding heavily, consumed with rage and jealousy, it was so difficult for me to take.

"Ms. Chloe, do you take Mr. Richard here to be your lawful wedded husband whom you will love in sickness and in health until death do you part?"

"Yes, I do!" She responded, her voice soft as silk, this was my woman, a perfect woman for me yet I was stupid to have let her slip away.

"Mr. Richard, do you take Ms. Chloe here to be your lawful wedded wife, to love and to cherish in sickness and in health until death do you part?"

"Yes I do"

"You may now go ahead to ready your vows" the priest insisted, the vows were presented to them, and Chloe had a warm smile on her face, so beautiful that I felt enchanted and could recall the first time that I met her before we got married.

"Richard, I don't have much to say to you, but I just want to remind you that I have been through a lot, you are my backbone and no matter what we face in the future, as long as I have you, I know that everything is going to be alright"

She expressed, a trickle of tears rolling down her cheek, Richard had pulled out a handkerchief to immediately wipe it off.

This was setting me off the edge, I clenched my fist so hard that it was starting to hurt, yet the hurt that I was feeling deep inside of me was more intense.

"Chloe, remember the first time that I met you, I told you that you have been through a lot and I told you that I wanted to wipe all of that away, I am going to take away all of the pains that you felt in the past and make you the happiest woman alive"

He assured her, his eyes pinned to her as he stared at her with so much affection, I froze there wondering how this was happening, how I let Chloe slip away from me.

"By the powers vested on me by the state, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss your bride!"

The officiating priest announced, and everyone widened their gaze in admiration. Chloe tilted forward to him, it was so hard for me to watch.

I shut my eyes and once she had drifted away from him after the long kiss, her gaze briefly locked with mine, I could see the smirk on her lips, she knew exactly what she was doing, and that alone was getting on my nerves.

"Lyon, let's get out of here!" Sherry suddenly tapped on me, for a moment there, I had forgotten that she was next to me, even though it felt disgusting to me at that moment.

"How can you say that, the ceremony is not yet over!" I alerted her, but the frown on her face deepened seeing that I was not interested in her words.

"Who cares if the ceremony is over or not, can't you see that this event is an attempt to mock us, Chloe must have seduced him and you should alert him about what happened."

She insisted but even the sound of her voice was annoying to me, I wasn't paying attention to her, my entire gaze fixed on Chloe and as soon as I noticed Richard walking away from her to attend to his guest that flew all the way here, I scurried towards her.

Standing right before Chloe at that moment, she was an epitome of beauty, I had no idea what to say, but I knew that I had to use my words, those words that she always fell for in the past to get her back.
