After Being Retaliated by A Relative's Husband Chapter 1

My sister-in-law, Naomi Sanders, was pregnant with her second child, and my mother-in-law, Madeline Adams, made me fully responsible for her autistic grandson, Bennett Nelson.

I took care of him day and night for half a year until I became pregnant as well.

I was bedridden to protect my pregnancy, but Madeline secretly left Bennett at my door.

The child, not knowing any better, climbed up the window and fell from the twenty-fourth floor.

By the time I arrived, unaware, he was already in pieces.

Exhausted, I handled the funeral arrangements, but the irate Naomi's husband, Wyatt Nelson, blamed me for not watching the child and kicked me in the abdomen, causing me to black out.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back at the time when Naomi just got pregnant with her second child.

"Naomi is pregnant with her second child. This is our top priority. I unplugged the internet at home; we can't let the radiation harm my daughter!"

Madeline held the internet cable, glaring exaggeratedly.

The familiar scene left me momentarily bewildered.

I looked up to see Bennett, who had just been buried, now standing alive behind Madeline.

I glanced at my phone. August 23, 2023.

I had been reborn! Reborn at the time when Naomi just became pregnant with her second child.

Madeline didn't notice my strangeness and pointed at a pile of figures, saying to my husband, Johnson Sanders, "And you, clean up all this junk. It looks terrifying; don't scare your sister."

Facing his mother, the daughter-obsessed Madeline, Johnson just frowned and, just like in the previous life, silently packed up his painstakingly collected figures into a bag.

He was a programmer and often needed to work overtime at home, so being without the internet was out of the question. However, he had known since childhood that he couldn't win against his sister.

Suppressing my excitement, I grabbed his hand, yanked back the cable, and plugged it back into the router. "None of this will affect your daughter. In fact, that so-called energy stone you're wearing has strong radiation."

Madeline hastily covered her precious stone. "No, no. The fortune teller said I have a calamity to avoid. This is for my safety."

The atmosphere became awkward for a moment, and Madeline threw Bennett's backpack at me. "There's no time. Skip your meal and take Bennett away quickly."

Naomi stood aside, feigning a smile. "Zoey, I really envy you as a special education teacher. You can take care of him so easily, unlike me, who gets exhausted after just a short while."

Madeline clicked her tongue and looked at her daughter with pity.

Bennett was a child with autism. In the previous life, due to my identity as a special education teacher, taking care of him became my duty. Later, when Naomi got pregnant with her second child, Bennett became my full responsibility.

Bennett looked sullen after being pulled by Madeline, as if he was about to explode.

He had a severe violent tendency and could even beat someone to the point of a concussion.

Johnson's numb face suddenly showed anger as he stood in front of me. "I've said it before, Zoey is going to work. How does it look if she keeps taking Bennett with her?"

Madeline glared. "Why not?" Then she looked at me expectantly. "Zoey, what do you think?"

In the previous life, I was my husband's unreliable partner. Every time he protected me, I would betray him, foolishly thinking I was considering the bigger picture.

This time around, I would not repeat the same mistakes.

I pushed the backpack away. "Mom, I really can't take him. I'm going to teach, not to play. Bennett keeps me so busy that I can't get anything done, and my colleagues have a lot of complaints."

Johnson looked up at me in surprise.

Naomi pouted and shook my arm. "Oh come on, you don't rely on your colleagues for your salary. What does it matter if you offend them?"

In the previous life, I was too soft-hearted and was used by her until my death.

In the mirror beside us, her rosy face contrasted sharply with my haggard appearance.

I knocked her hand away. "But if this continues, I'll definitely lose my job."

"After all, our new house relies on Johnson and me to pay the mortgage. I can't afford to lose my income."

After Johnson and I got married, we fully paid for a small one-bedroom apartment. But in my previous life, blinded by naivety, I followed Madeline's suggestion to sell our one-bedroom apartment and used the money as a down payment for a four-bedroom house, living together with Madeline and Naomi's family.

Since none of them worked, Johnson and I paid the mortgage.

Madeline said she was afraid Naomi would feel uncomfortable living and strongly insisted on putting Naomi's name on the property deed.

I must have been out of my mind, thinking that family shouldn't fuss over such things, so I agreed.

I quietly calculated the time and, fortunately, we hadn't sold our house to buy a new one yet. We were just renting together with them.

Speaking of the new house, Madeline fell silent.

Naomi said righteously, "Isn't that a special education institution? What's the big deal about having one more problem child?"

I played dumb. "It's not a problem as long as you pay. You'll be our most valued customer! I can even give you a friends and family discount."

Naomi's face darkened, and she asked stiffly, "How much will it cost?"

"Not much, not much. Thirteen thousand a month!"

She blurted out, "Are you crazy? I'm using you because it's free!"

I shrugged. "Well, there's nothing I can do then."
