Chapter 3

Kyron left not long after.

I washed up and laid down. The doctor had advised me to rest more.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, I received a call from him.

The phone picked up the sound of a purring engine. I had bought that convertible sports car for him.

"Sorry, Courtney. The issue is quite complicated. I won't be back tonight. You don't need to wait for me. Go to sleep.

"I know I've neglected you lately. I'll make it up to you later. We are, after all, a couple who vowed to share joys and sorrows," he added.

I hadn't even spoken before he hung up.

I was wide awake now.

Kyron had used the same excuses countless times, be it company issues, client invitations, or major events.

I let out a cold laugh.

"Forget being a couple. I've had enough of this suffering," I muttered as I stared at the darkened screen.

Vows only matter when they're made. After that, they mean nothing.

The next morning, I woke up to an empty bed and felt relieved. He hadn't come home, just as I expected.

Just as I was about to make breakfast, I received a call from a board member of the company.

"Courtney, what an arrogant husband you have! He doesn't even attend board meetings!"

"It's fine. He won't have the chance to anymore." I chuckled and hung up.

The company was just a tool for him to withdraw money. He didn't care about doing any actual work as long as he could get the money.

I was about to call Kyron when I stumbled upon Fiona's social media post from the previous night.

"Someone just rushed over to be with me despite the rain. I know you love me the most," the post read.

The photo showed the two of them in intimate lighting, Kyron's eyes slightly sparkled.

I called Kyron.

"What's up?" he said, his voice husky with sleep.

I was about to speak when I heard a sultry moan on the other end of the line.

"Kyron, no…"

In an instant, all my blood rushed to my head, my stomach churned, and I felt like vomiting.

I swallowed my words and hung up the phone. I sat down slowly at the kitchen table, still shaking uncontrollably.

Kyron and I had been married for years, but the number of times we'd been intimate could be counted on one hand.

He claimed he was naturally frigid, saying it was a lifelong issue he was born with.

It turned out he just didn't want to touch me. When he was with Fiona, it was a different story altogether.

I calmed down after a while and started frantically scrolling through Fiona's social media posts.

I saved all the photos and videos of the two of them together.

I sent all the evidence of how he fawned over her, cooked for her, and lavished her with expensive gifts to my lawyer.

"Since you love her so much, I'll make her Mrs. Stone myself," I thought.

Chapter 4

Kyron came home that night unexpectedly.

I had prepared a whole table of dishes. When Kyron entered, he thought I had done it for him.

"Courtney, you're pregnant. How could you exert yourself like this? You didn't need to do all this," he said as he reached to embrace me.

I turned away to avoid him as I looked at my hands. At one point, I had dreamed of achieving great things with these hands.

Now, I was stuck at home, cooking and managing the household. And until now, he still didn't know that my baby was gone.

As I lowered my head, tears fell and I quickly wiped them away.

When I turned back, I saw Kyron had already started eating.

At that moment, I wanted to flip the table. None of this was worth it.

"Courtney, you grew up with everything, and yet you can cook so well," he said. "I'm lucky to have married you."

"By the way, our wedding anniversary is coming up soon. Do you want to have a big celebration or just one with the two of us?"

As Kyron said this, it reminded me of how Fiona ruined our anniversary every year.

I was sure she wouldn't let me have peace this year, either.

"Either way is fine," I said with indifference.

Kyron agreed enthusiastically.

On our anniversary, he booked a top-tier restaurant with exquisite dishes.

We had just sat down when Kyron's phone rang again.

He took a quick glance at it, and I knew he wouldn't be staying.

"Courtney, it's company business. I have to go."

"Whatever," I said, without sparing him a glance. I did not want to hear another word from him. It was all just a web of lies, anyway.

Kyron seemed relieved. He opened a bottle of wine for me and then left.

"I'll make it up to you next time with a big celebration!"

"There's no next time. You won't have the chance, Kyron," I thought silently.
