Chapter 3

Caleb had just gone to Marell with Juliette three months ago.

I looked at him calmly and said, "You must be exhausted from working late. Go get some rest. I need the car today to run a few errands."

"Sure."

He handed me the car keys without hesitation and kissed my forehead.

"Buy whatever you want, darling. I can afford it. I'm going to get some sleep. I'm really worn out," he said.

As I watched him disappear into the bedroom, I clutched the car keys in my hand. Caleb would indeed make it up to me at his inauguration, just not in the way he imagined.

I went downstairs and opened the car door. Then I removed the dashcam's memory card from the car and inserted it into the laptop I carried with me. As expected, it had recorded Caleb and Juliette in an intimate encounter the night before

A mere affair alone was unlikely to affect Caleb at all. However, most of Caleb's money was under my control, and what was left wasn't nearly enough to support Juliette's lavish lifestyle.

Caleb had found other ways to funnel benefits to Juliette, and the dashcam had even recorded their conversations about it. After finding what I needed, I copied the footage three times and stored it in separate locations. My expression was blank.

Over the next few days, I acted like a skilled hunter, patiently setting my traps. Arnold came through spectacularly, not only capturing more photos of Caleb and Juliette on their dates but also uncovering some interesting information.

"Juliette's luxury purchases were charged to Mr. Whitman's corporate account," he said.

Arnold slid a stack of photocopied invoices across the table toward me. "The luxury items he bought for her were recorded as client gifts. Even her prenatal checkups were claimed as business hospitality expenses."

As I reviewed the invoices, Arnold handed me a contract.

"Juliette had also signed a contract with Caleb's company for 60 million dollars a year in promotion fees. In reality, her account had fewer than a hundred thousand followers, and the engagement was dismal. This clearly amounted to an abuse of company funds," he said.

I scoffed. Caleb had truly abandoned all professional ethics for the sake of a woman. I quietly organized everything into a document.

That evening, Caleb came home earlier than usual. His face was alight with excitement. "Darling, I have great news!"

He wrapped his arms around me eagerly. "The board officially appointed me as CEO! The inauguration is next Wednesday."

"Really? That's wonderful!"

I put on a look of surprise. "Then, I'll need to find a beautiful gown. I can't embarrass you."

Caleb's smile faltered for a moment, and he quickly added with an apologetic tone, "Darling, this is one of the company's internal events, and I can't bring family members along.

"You know how it is—I need to keep a low profile at first. Once I officially take office, I'll take you to every event and make sure everyone knows that you're Mrs. Whitman."

I stared at him for a few seconds and only nodded when his gaze began to shift away. "Alright. Do your best."

"I always knew that you were considerate, darling!"

Relief washed over Caleb as he kissed me on the cheek. "After the ceremony, I'll treat you to a feast to celebrate."

As I watched him walk into the bathroom, I unlocked my phone.

Juliette had just posted an Instagram story. She wrote, "Heading to an important event with my husband. I'm so nervous. Hope the baby behaves—don't kick me at the most important part!"

The image showed a champagne-colored gown that was clearly high-end.

I scoffed and glanced at the inauguration invitation that had long been sent to my phone. It seemed that even Caleb himself had forgotten that, besides being his wife, I was also one of the company's minority shareholders.

There was no way I wouldn't receive an invitation to the CEO's inauguration.

On the day of the inauguration, Caleb left early in the morning. Before leaving, he said, "Darling, I'll be very busy tonight, so I might not be able to answer your calls."

I smiled as I saw him out, then took my time applying makeup and getting dressed.

When I pushed open the doors to the ballroom, Caleb was standing in the center, looking spirited and confident.

Chapter 4

Juliette stood beside Caleb in a champagne-colored gown. She linked her arm through his, carrying herself like the rightful wife.

"Congratulations, Mr. Whitman!"

"Mr. and Mrs. Whitman are truly a perfect match!"

"I heard that Mrs. Whitman is pregnant. That's really two happy events at once!"

"Mrs. Whitman, what a wonderful couple you and Mr. Whitman make. You're young, beautiful, and expecting a baby."

Those compliments made Juliette's face light up with delight.

I stood at the back of the crowd, watching the farce unfold with complete detachment. I stood quietly in the corner for a long while before Caleb finally stepped onto the stage to give his speech.

"Thank you all for being here. Today means a great deal to me. This is not only a milestone in my career but also a new beginning in my life."

He looked at Juliette with deep affection and said, "I want to thank my beautiful wife for always supporting me and for giving me a child. You've given me even more motivation to keep going."

Thunderous applause erupted, followed by waves of congratulations.

At that moment, I slowly stepped out of the crowd and stood below the stage, smiling as I looked at Caleb. "Is that so? Somehow, I don't remember us ever getting divorced."

The ballroom fell silent in an instant. Everyone stared at me in shock, then they turned their gaze toward Caleb on the stage.

Caleb's face went pale in an instant. "Darling, how could you—"

Juliette reacted quickly, immediately putting on a pitiful expression and walking toward me.

"Chloe, I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I know that you can't bear to part with Cal, and even less with his money," she said.

Her eyes were red-rimmed, and her voice was choked with emotion. "If it's money you want, I can give you everything I have, as long as you let us be together."

I looked at her coldly. "What are you talking about? I'm Caleb's legitimate wife. Why should I let you have him?"

"Chloe, aren't you just dragging out the divorce for the assets?"

Juliette stepped forward and raised her voice so that everyone could hear her. "I can give up everything as long as I can be with Cal. I'm seven months pregnant. Please have some mercy—"

As she spoke, she suddenly leaned backward, falling as if someone had pushed her.

"Jules!" Caleb shouted.

He rushed off the stage, caught Juliette, then turned and slapped me across the face.

The sharp slap echoed through the ballroom. My face immediately swelled up, and blood seeped from the corner of my mouth.

"That's enough!" Caleb snapped.

Caleb shielded Juliette behind him. His gaze was icy. "Why did you have to bring our private matters into my company? Today's my inauguration. Are you deliberately trying to destroy me?"

He took a deep breath. "Since you're being so unreasonable, we'll settle this in court. I'm filing for divorce!"

The entire room remained silent as everyone watched the drama unfold.

I wiped the blood from my lips and slowly clapped my hands. "Very well. Then let's show everyone exactly why you want this divorce, Mr. Whitman."

As soon as I finished speaking, the large screen in the ballroom lit up. It showed intimate footage of Caleb and Juliette inside the car.

"Babe, that 60-million-dollar contract from the company should keep you set for a while, shouldn't it?" Caleb said.

"Cal, you are the best! But I also want that importer deal," Juliette replied.

"You greedy little kitten. That's an eight-figure deal."

"I don't care. You're the vice president, and soon you'll be CEO. You should have that kind of authority, right?"

"Alright, I'll do whatever you want. After all, you're carrying my child."

The screen cut to a series of reimbursement forms and contracts, one after another.

The audience erupted into chaos.

"Oh my God, isn't this embezzlement?"

"No wonder a small influencer like Juliette could afford so many luxury items."

"Was Caleb using the company as his personal ATM?"

Just then, an authoritative voice rang out. "Caleb!"

I turned toward the sound and saw Jensen Cross, the chairman and true power behind the company. He came downstairs with an ashen face. His entire body was trembling. "You'd better explain this to me. What exactly is going on?"
