Chapter 1

My sister, Yvette Chandler, and my boyfriend, Gabriel Johnson, have never gotten along. She doesn't believe that he, a playboy, will settle down and be faithful to me. She even tries to stop us from being together after he proposes to me.

To convince her of Gabriel's loyalty, I sign up for a new WhatsApp account to test him. He's frosty toward me and keeps me at arm's length.

I'm gleeful over this when he suddenly sends me a voice message. "I already told you I won't fool around with anyone other than you and your sister. Who's going to satisfy you once I'm married when you're so insatiable, Yvette?"

Hearing those voice messages froze the blood in my veins.

In a panic, I pinched my thigh, desperate to confirm if this was a nightmare.

Amid the pounding of my heart, the harsh reality hit me. My sister, Yvette Chandler, and my boyfriend, Gabriel Johnson, were a thing. I was just Yvette's stand-in.

But how was that even possible? They always seemed to hate each other.

Yvette said that Gabriel was just a good-for-nothing spoiled rich kid with a prestigious family background.

Likewise, Gabriel thought Yvette was a nosy meddler who always pushed me to break up with him every time we fought.

The sudden buzz of an incoming WhatsApp call jolted me from my thoughts. I stared blankly at the screen before rejecting it.

"Why aren't you answering?"

Gabriel messaged me.

"Don't tell me you're crying.

"Come to Mirage Villa. I'll make it up to you tonight.

"Relax, marriage is just a formality. You'll have whatever Melanie gets, including me."

As I stared blankly at the screen, I heard a buzzing sound in my ears, as if my soul had left my body. Tears fell uncontrollably.

Through the haze, I remembered the first time I'd brought Yvette to that villa.

Even without my guidance, she effortlessly found the bathroom and the cleanser in the storage cabinet.

Later, I discovered her phone had already connected to the Wi-Fi. She claimed she instinctively used my social media password.

Gabriel's corgi adored her. She said it was because she smelled like me. But that dog never tolerated me, even when I bribed it with toys and treats. Yet, it wagged its tail at Yvette, whom it was meeting for the first time.

Then there were the luxury bags, couture dresses, and jewelry Yvette owned—identical to mine.

Some were given by Gabriel under the pretense of "gifts for the future sister-in-law". Others, she said, were presents from admirers.

Whenever I pressed for details, she dodged the questions. I thought she was shy. But it turned out that she had something to hide.

I replayed moments from our shopping trips when they'd bicker and try to outdo each other in front of me.

A few times, their heated arguments ended in sudden laughter. I'd been so naïve, celebrating their "improved" relationship.

This shameless couple played me for a fool, treating me like a toy in their twisted game.

I cried until my eyes swelled and my head spun. Then I grabbed my car keys and sped to Mirage Villa.

Mirage was Gabriel's private clubhouse, currently hosting his bachelor party. Gabriel was there, and so was Yvette.

Standing outside the gated property, I spotted them at the outdoor bar.

Gabriel seemed drunk. His chiseled face was flushed red from alcohol. With a dazed look in his eyes, he wrapped an arm around Yvette's neck and whispered in her ear.

Yvette pouted in feigned disdain and tugged at his tie.

Around them, a group of guys laughed and cheered.

Gabriel flicked his bangs, purposely leaned back, and flashed a mischievous smile as if he had just pulled off a prank.

Yvette gasped and toppled onto his lap.

Seeing that, Gabriel wrapped his arm around her and kissed her under the dim lights of the outdoor bar. Around them, cheers and whistles erupted.

Some popped champagne to celebrate, while others raised their phones to take pictures. There were also those laughing and teasing.

"Gabriel, you're getting married to Melanie the day after tomorrow, and here you are making out with her sister? Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"

"Haha! What happens in Mirage stays in Mirage. Even if Gabriel goes all the way with Yvette tonight, Melanie will never find out."

Chapter 2

One of the guys shouted, "That's the Gabriel I know! All that time you were playing the devoted, loving boyfriend to Melanie. Was that all an act? I honestly thought you'd changed!"

Gabriel finally broke the lingering kiss.

His voice was thick with drunkenness, but there was a cocky edge to it. "The one I've always loved is Yvie. But as the player she is, she just wouldn't settle for me."

Gabriel let out a chuckle and pressed a loud kiss to Yvette's cheek.

"That left me with no choice but to settle for her sister. Melanie might not be as wild as Yvie in bed, but she's got the looks and figure."

Gabriel helped Yvette up and had her lean against the bar to rest.

Someone nearby handed him a jacket, which he draped over Yvette's shoulders.

A voice from the crowd asked, "Are you going home tonight, Gabriel?"

As Yvette raised her hazy eyes to look at him, Gabriel bent down and affectionately pinched her chin.

"Melanie cares most about Yvette. I'm always second. Now that Yvette is so upset, I naturally need to comfort her."

He waved his hand toward the back.

"Isaac, message Melanie and tell her I'm too drunk to come home tonight. I'll be staying here, but I'll pick her up for her rehearsal tomorrow."

Tears blurred my vision as my phone vibrated.

Gabriel's assistant, Isaac Lawson, texted me. "Ms. Chandler, Mr. Johnson is too drunk to come home tonight. He'll be picking you up for your rehearsal tomorrow. Get some rest."

I stood there for what felt like forever. My mind was racing.

Yvette and I had always been there for each other. After our parents died, we were raised by our uncle, Edwin Chandler. My cousin, Jerry Chandler, often bullied me, and my aunt, Julissa Foley, turned a blind eye.

When I was too scared to fight back, Yvette stepped in for me. When I couldn't defend myself, she did it for me.

Academically, I was always the smarter one.

Yvette didn't care much for studying, so during our senior year, I'd spend every night doing revisions with her and breaking things down for her.

I painted a picture of a bright future for her, promising all the good things ahead. In the end, we both got into universities in the city.

When I found out my boyfriend had cheated on me right after graduation, Yvette stormed into the hotel without hesitation and gave the shameless couple a good beating.

Later, we rented a flat together. We were uncertain about what was to come. But we'd both squeeze into one bed at night, making promises to support each other when we succeeded.

"Even if we get rich, we can't forget where we come from."

"I'll give you the biggest room when I make it big."

From childhood, I always considered her the one I loved most. Maybe love from family had conditions, but I believed she would always love me back.

So when I saw her betrayal with my own eyes, I didn't even have the courage to confront her.

The one who once fought for me against the mistress was now the lover of my fiancé. My full trust in her was repaid with heartless betrayal.

When I left the outdoor bar, the full moon hung high in the sky, and the cold bit through my coat.

I recalled the first time I met Gabriel.

At 25, I became the most famous jewelry designer in Holmfirth.

During an international auction, I nearly passed out in front of my display after working for three days straight. Gabriel caught me just in time. His perfectly tailored suit and gentle gaze took my breath away.

Later, I heard he was the prince of Colchester's elite, a notorious flirt, so I made a point to avoid him. But he gave up all his bad habits to win me over and pursued me for an entire year.

That year, during Christmas, I went back to my hometown to visit my sick grandma, Rosie Pearson. The signal in the mountains was terrible, so I couldn't get in touch.

He worried I might be in danger, so he drove through mountains in the middle of the night to find me.

When I saw him standing in the snowstorm with only a thin shirt and asking villagers about my whereabouts, I knew then he was the one.

Despite three years of dating, he still treated me like the first day.

He'd fix my hair at jewelry exhibitions, always remember every important date to surprise me, and carefully prepare when introducing me to his family. He'd also proudly show me off to everyone.

Chapter 3

Gabriel would say, "This is my fiancée, Melanie Chandler, the youngest jewelry designer in Holmfirth. Her works have won countless international awards, and even the royal family has requested her to design their wedding jewelry.

"Appointments with her won't be available until next year! Actually, it's not until the year after that! Because we're having a grand wedding next year. We'll be sure to invite everyone."

The love he gave me was so perfect, yet it had this fatal flaw that made everything come crashing down.

I went to a hotel alone and cried my heart out.

I kept telling myself that I was just betrayed and deceived. It wasn't the end of the world.

The wedding hadn't even started yet. There was still time. I could leave this place that brought me heartbreak and distance myself from those two traitors.

But why should I leave? They were the ones in the wrong. I would make them pay!

And what I should reflect on was not my sincerity but my lack of sharp judgment. I was not at fault. I was a good person.

The next day was the wedding rehearsal, so I returned to the apartment early.

When Gabriel came to pick me up, I had already composed myself, but he still noticed my puffy eyes.

"Why are your eyes so red?" he asked, leaning down and gently kissing my eyelids.

I forced myself to hold back the disgust and said, "I miss my parents."

Gabriel smiled softly and squatted down to help me change shoes. "They must be happy for you, watching from above."

As I stared at the top of Gabriel's head, my mind was filled with thousands of unspoken words.

If he couldn't stay faithful, why did he choose me? He knew I hated betrayal more than anything. Did he ever think about how much it would hurt me if I found out he was sneaking around with Yvette?

But I held back all those words.

Gabriel had always proclaimed he was going to give me a wedding that would shock the entire city. I was going to turn that grand wedding into a ridiculous farce. And Gabriel would be the saddest clown in the middle of it all.

The rehearsal went on until evening.

Before we left, I told Gabriel and Yvette to wait for me in the parking lot.

I asked for the wedding planner, Courtney Price. This wedding, worth millions of dollars, was led by me and executed by Courtney.

After our conversation, she looked troubled. She wanted to say something but held back. I pretended not to notice.

I knew my demands were unreasonable. This last-minute change would create a huge workload. But I had dealt with brides who were even more willful than me.

Now that I was the bride, why shouldn't I be allowed to be willful just this once?

When I got to the car, the driver, Roberto Sloan, was missing. Gabriel sat in the front passenger seat, and Yvette was in the back.

The air was thick with suffocating silence.

I looked at Yvette's flushed cheek and let out a cold laugh.

Every time I saw this scene in the past, I thought they were just arguing again. Now I know they were sneaking around behind my back.

How foolish I had been.

I sat in the back seat and closed my eyes wearily. "Where's Roberto?"

"He's in the restroom. I'll call him right away," Gabriel answered.

I simply hummed in acknowledgment.

Gabriel turned around and handed me a thermal flask. The fragrance of coffee filled the air.

"Are you tired?" he asked gently.

Then he ordered Yvette, "Yvette, switch to the front seat."

"No need." I opened my eyes and grabbed Yvette's hand, turning to her with a smile. "I still have a lot to talk to Yvette about."

Gabriel frowned in displeasure. "What could you possibly need to say that I can't hear?"

I smiled even wider. "It's just some idle gossip. If you hear it, you'll probably say Yvette's trying to sow discord between us again."

Gabriel snorted. "Yvette, no matter how much you oppose it, I'm marrying Melanie. You'll have to show me some respect in the future."

Yvette seemed to sense something. Unlike usual, she didn't retort. Her expression stiffened, and she looked at me diffidently.
